Nathan LandShark because the show itself is a rip off already (and before your ass got its daily dose of fucks the guy who made this show literally said he took a little more than influence and inspiration from things hes seen). Luke-Marks lol Ive seen him tweet about the show and thought he was joking because it was titled "Mr. Robot" lol. But then he talked about how it was his favorite shows on his podcast so I was like "oh okay"
One of the things I find interesting is that while it's a criticism of capitalism and hegemony it's also a criticism of the over confident activists who do more harm than good. It's like, the world is messy and complicated and there are no fix-all solutions, no easy answers because society is made up of these flawed individuals. I see it as basically an updated presentation of the romantic era pathos- comparing the ought to the is and coming to the realization that even accepting the fact that reality is far from ideal won't stop the emotional yearning for the ideal which loops back into the tragic nature of reality. It's pessimistic but not nihilistic exactly because we've been shown that people can improve themselves in at least small ways even in the bleakest circumstances. Or maybe I'm over analyzing it. Whatever.
That's a great observation. I think being messy as a world started after the explosion of raw, unclassified, too fast to be digested, and hastily reproduced information. Suddenly, no one is allowed to answer "I don't know about that", be it for career, reputation, even social reasons, and the only occasion when romanticizing is allowed is for childhood reminiscing only.
I was kinda following along but was thinking “I mean it’s just decent and creative cinematography, I don’t get the excitement” But when the crosswalk counted down to the shooting, ya got me. I need to watch this show now
My only problem with Mr. Robot is every episode feels so repetitive. The characters say and do the same basic things every episode. Whereas Mystery Diners manages to really subvert expectations, with impressive directing and dynamic character growth.
Seasons 3 and 4 of this show are just something else. Absolutely epic and mind blowing. The pacing of season 3 was incredible after the slower pace of season 2. Overall a masterpiece of TV. Fantastic acting, dialogue, characters, cinematography, everything. And the hacking and computer use is actually real, unlike all other films or shows that portray that stuff completely wrong.
People generally don't like being told what to do and enjoy a certain level of contrarianism but goddamn this show is so fucking good. Your biggest complaint is almost completely nullified because there so much amazing stuff constantly done with the dynamic between the two that wouldn't be possible otherwise. The writing, cinematography, and editing are so top tier that at the end of almost every episode I just sit there looking at the blank screen trying to unpack for a while and each season unravels differently so it never feels stale. It's a real treat when these high caliber shows come along and they know what they want to accomplish so there's no filler and the experience doesn't overstay it's welcome.

I've always seen Angela's character as a metaphor for the problems of the disgruntled, average millennial. She starts out pretty normal, and is eventually broken by the people around her, her ambition, and herself. She's arguably one of the most innocent people, but by season 3 she's evolved into what she hated. I think Angela's story is interesting and tragic, and works as a good foil to Elliot's chaos.

23:49 Did the actor actually modify his handwriting to fit with the character? In terms of graphology it looks a bit like what Elliot's writing would actually be; emotionally reserved, tight, uneven, fast, low self-esteem, etc. Extreme detail taken into account on director's part.
No, it isn't actually Rami Malek writing, they got a handwriting specialist to develop a style for Elliot and write out the journal. They actually published a full version of the journal as a book that you can buy, and the whole thing is handwritten by that same guy. He even developed a slightly different style for the parts written by Mr. Robot.

Those are two god damn masterful shows
I picked up this show again after I left it mid season 2 after this video. Thank you Ralph for reacquainting me with such a brilliant show!
You got me to watch Mr. Robot, and I thank you so much for this. Thank you.
14:53 "It makes me think that they have something planned for her later on"
Well, this is awkward
I started watching this video thinking 'I've not watched it but eh, I won't stop at segment 2 because I'm not gonna watch it'. Well. You've proved me wrong. It was a really compelling argument as to why it should be watched, so I started yesterday and I'm at the start of s1e4 right now. I love it, and I know others who would love it as well. Thanks!
Watched the ad for you Ralph, but stopped after that. You've sold me on this show.
We need a second part for the finale
Shit what’s the math on that..
*begins violently typing*
i felt personally attacked when u said we were dumb if we didn't get mr robot was eliotts dad by episode 3
they were shooting for season four in my neighborhood in bk and i met rami, so i looked up the show and found this and now its my favorite show. weird how the world works
Yooo, I was wondering why the title credits kept saying Joey Bada$$ without his songs appearing in the show until you said he's Leon 😂
I’ve been waiting for this video for months. Man I hope so much that you do a full series analysis once this show’s over. If any show deserves it, it’s this one. Loved the video
Mr. Robot is the polar opposite of Utopia UK cinematography and color wise yet both of them have an amazing style.
I haven't seen the show, I know there's currently 4 season. I'll be back in two weeks guys.
its just finished as you posted that lol
Mr. Robot went from not really on my radar half way through Season 1 to now its the one show I've been looking forward every year since. Elliot's journey is something very special and I look forward to it's conclusion.
This video actually made me watch the show. All I have to say now is thank you.
Hey didn’t you rip on Jeremy Jahns in your Breaking Bad review for not finishing the show before he made a video?
* coughs *
oh fuck
This was a review?
BLΛCK SΛMPLE quite an L for Ralph
He made this video so people would start watching the show. Breaking Bad doesn't need more attention
nicolás blr I agree I was teasing. Jeremy’s a nice guy but I prefer Ralph’s reviews personally. Very different.. I’m really interested in watching Mr. Robot now!
in season 4 all those complaints don't mean shit because it played out so well. I love this show so much it's perfect
A true rare 10/10. A 9 if you're an insane nitpicker.
Thank you for making this video. Holy shit I just got done with season 1. Oh my god this is finally something that gives me the goosebumps as hard as Breaking bad did
ralph
I started watching this show because you talked about it. all I can say is thank you. thank you so fucking much
Mr Robot clearly influenced Ralph's movie King Candy. I love it. Gotta start watching Mr Robot now! Bye!
Finally! I have been watching Mr robot off and on for 9 months just so I could watch part 2 of the review and it finally happened! Amazing show and review!
this video put such an impression on me that i knew i had to watch mr robot some day. i wanted to feel what ralph felt. now, finally, i started it two days ago and i've just finished season two. i'm borderline obsessed and if i didn't need sleep i'd be finished by now. so, thanks ralph.
12 years old aren't usually this funny.
Wonderful analysis. You should obviously be a writer. You have put into words much of what I feel when I watch Mr. Robot.
I have been waiting 3 years to watch this video because I didn't want any spoilers. Thanks ralph for recommending this show because it is one of my favorites
