@@YsAbTones Check back when the Xmas updates arrive. It's not meant to be an Axe Effects unit. You missed the point when you don't need to read the manual to use it. You missed the point that eight processor cores make it the most powerful unit, thereby future-proofing it more than any other unit. Adding software on this platform is going to be significant. Is the guy at Decca records who told the Beatles that they were not interested and that guitar groups would not make any money in the 1960's related to you? You want more proof that this is a good unit. Start with sales. If you could make millions extra releasing a product before Xmas and then add the updates at Xmas would you get promoted or fired. The guy who got fired from Honda started Toyota. Fender hired these Toyota guys.

I also appreciate all the notes made by Jon. Cab improvements, touch screen refinements, more mic options, combining speakers within a cabinet, not very many effects and such. These are critiques that can go back to Fender in a respectful manner. Before I sink cash into it, I'd like to see what they do in the next couple revisions. As many have said, the arena of modelers and is very competitive and Fender will need to make sure they listen to their users and have regular updates and improvements.

I agree, the large touch screen is useful for moving things around, rotary foot switches are good for changing settings, and seeing an image of the actual makes it easier to relate to.
You got some good tones from the unit. I hope Fender listens to your thoughtful suggestions, and considers hiring you as a consultant. Your experience with Amps, Modelers, IR's, and Plugins would be a valuable asset in making the TMP a stellar Modeler. Thanks

Well presented video! TMP is the newest modeler on the block so it will be interesting to see how widely the guitar community accepts it. It seems to have the potential but it has a long way to go to become a standard in the industry. I think their update strategy will tell the tale...we'll see!!

Man, love the TMP. But, the way you dial it in is SO great! Are you going to share your presets on Fender cloud? For future videos on the TMP I would love to see this (and I think I mentioned this before) but, dialing in the 5150 (of course). And trying to tone match another amp that it “doesn’t” have to see how it performs (like trying to tone match the PRS MT-15 or Archon). It would be interesting to see if it could tone match by combining amps together or cabinets, etc. Also, comparison demos between this and the Helix or this and the Tonex. Thanks for the great content! 👍🏻

I have a Helix and I love it. The product support Line 6 has provided since its release has been phenomenal. I’ve never played any of the Fractal stuff, Kemper, or Quad Cortex. I can’t compare those to the TMP, but compared to the Helix this is next level modeling. There is an extra level of clarity, fidelity, and dynamic range, that the Helix just doesn’t have. This is much better than I expected. The 800 with the 4x12 Greenback cab is worth the price of admission all by itself. The UI is so intuitive I haven’t needed to download the manual. But the real star of the show are the sounds. The ease with which you can dial in great sounds is incredible. I’m playing through a power-cab 1x12 and amp in the room sounds have never been easier. Fender hit it out of the park.

Hello, I am thinking of buying the TMP. I play mostly Fender tones and edge of breakup. 2 months later after you have written this.... How do you like the unit now? I just sold my Quad Cortex which I had for a year. I just never really got into it. The sounds were great but the interface although graphic and all good was not something I found myself wanting to interact with. The TMP on the other hand looks like something I would love to interact with. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks and happy New Year.

    • @edb1913

@BrianVallotton I've never owned a QC or a Kemper, so my only frame of reference still is the Helix.
I use the BE100 and the Jubilee models primarily, so I can't speak to the Fender models.
Two months in though my initial opinions still stand. The sounds to my ears are clearly more warm and dynamic.
The interface is genius, you will never need to consult a manual.
I put the Helix up for sale within a few hours of plugging in the TMP.

@@SonicDriveStudio Do that, no problem. I simply appreciate when we can hear what the unit can do on its own as well. Had the chance to try it and I have to say it's a good unit, you can easily get a good sound out of it and it offers a broad selection of IO which is good for it to be a multi purpose unit. The only gripe I have with it is the price. At that price point now you can get a Quad Cortex brand new and at half the price a Helix used. Plus this doesn't seem to have some sort of "killer feature" compared to other new modellers out there to make it stand out so I don't see it as having the extra something the could make me veer to it or recommend it to someone.

I think it is a solid entry into the modeler market for Fender. So many people are comparing it to the QC - and that is fine, but they are conveniently forgetting that many features that NDSP promised 2+ years ago for the QC are just now starting to make their appearance. Many QC users were dissatisfied with the device for that reason for a while. I think the things missing from the Fender unit are much more minor and with the girth of Fender behind it, they will be updated/improved much faster than NDSP.

I think the Tone Master is cool, and what fender should do is model all the awesome 50 and 60s clean amps that everyone wants. That would make it stand out from everyone else. They also need to match basic things like loading your own IRs and have a desktop editor. I think if it was a little cheaper it would have gotten even more hype.

I really like the TMP with a few ???. I also own an Axe FX III and Headrush Prime. I like the Jubilee models better than the single one you get with the AF3. The Headrush amp models sound very dated compared to the TMP. If Fender ever add amp capturing/cloning, then this unit will smoke the Headrush.....except for now, the looper is retarded that it can only be used at the end of the chain. What was Fender thinking?? If Fender supports this unit well with many of the customer requests, then this will end up at a lot of Pro's feet.

I kind of like it, but I don’t like the price. While the device seems functional, and looks and sounds good enough, it doesn’t really seem to add much to the already competative modeling market, other than official models of the amp brands Fender owns. I don’t know whether that makes a difference or not, but I don’t really think so. The fact that it’s more expensive (at least where I live) than a Quad Cortex, Kemper, Helix, or any other established modeller/profiler makes absolutely no sense to me. Sure, Fender is a legacy brand, but releasing a new a product at a higher price than the competition, without any unique/essential selling points, seems like a doomed marketing strategy from the start.

I have this idea, it is so very unlikely a tube screamer in the digital world acts as it does with a physical tube screamers and tube amp. I would have to believe, Fender took the time to change how the amp reacts to every possible boost on the front end. All modelers sound like they are basically doing the same thing. Do any of them sound better? Pretty subjective. I think $1700 is crazy expensive. How much technology involved with these is so much more advanced than 4k TVs at $250? I consider the raw materials, labor to build and engineering. I think $1000 should be the top cost and I doubt the Fender has all the routing of the Helix. In the next 5 years, we will see modelers with the same features or better than this Fender for $500.

It's got a hard road to go and needs quick updates, lets be real it lacks bass amps, limited in the amps that it does have, and for all the processing power its supposed to have doesn't really handle all that much. Imo it was pushed early to promote sales for the holidays.

Sounds good but that doesn't mean anything since you make everything sound pretty good. I'm done buying new software products until 1-2 years later though, since companies are obsessed with releasing them half baked and letting early adopters pay for the privilege of being beta testers. I'm sure this will be great over time, but I'm not rewarding companies for releasing incomplete things relative to the maturity of present options.
