This is definitely the best video I've seen on the Tone Master. I absolutely love how in depth you go with the products that you get. Practically leaving no stone unturned. Best channel 10/10
Thanks so much dude!
I'm interested in what Fender can do in the modeling space with their budget. I think it might push modeling to another level with a manufacturer like Fender jumping into it.
Agree
When you see a band like Metallica using modeling technology you have to take notice. Fender understands modeling is the future and I think they are all in.
New sub here! This video has nothing to envy to much bigger channels in terms of content and quality! The icing in the cake was the simultaneous comparison with the power amp and real cab! Nobody is doing that on new reviews lately. I think it would be awesome to see further videos like this comparing to current and old modelers!
Saludos desde España!
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, that's just the way I like to do it, so I'm glad people seem to like it as well!
Yeah! A Quad Cortex vs Fender shootout would be awesome! :)
It honestly sounds incredible! I'm especially happy they have the 5153 Stealth, which has become a dream amp for me recently, and gives me hope we can get more EVH stuff moving forward
One thing I think would put them ahead would be giving us the more obscure Fender stuff (like the MH-500), because everyone and their mom has profiles and takes on the twin deluxe, princeton, etc etc. Kinda like how I wish Line 6 would give us an Ampeg vh140c model, though I understand amps like that are discontinued, I think companies should use what they have to their advantage
Fender already does modeling. They probably made a few adjustments and threw it in a metal box with some fancy UI. No way it’s worth 1600
UI looks awesome. The way the scribble strips display the parameters you can edit with the switch-knobs actually makes this a reasonable way to replace a pedalboard. The main thing I miss from my modelers is the live tweak-ability that this would provide.
Sound is good, initially seems there's some top end fuzz that needs to be cut out with a LPF. Needs a direct comparison with other flagships, my impression is that it's a step behind the big guys, but who knows.
New to your channel, never seen your content before. This is one of the best overview videos of this product man, subscribed!
Yeah run that shootout for sure, interested to see how this one stacks up back to back!
Agreed. A shootout is gonna be a life saver for people interested
I'm in for that.
Wooooow. IF/WHEN I am looking to move from pedals and amps into this realm, this will be on the list to definitely consider. I get really freaked out by option paralysis in units like this, but I'm definitely a fan of the details Fender has not skimped on at the same time.
This is the best demo of this product! You covered all the use cases players like us might use.
Excellent Vid and Tone capture!! Quick question: what is the pick sensitivity like? Do you feel you have full dynamic range with your picking?
Best review so far!!!thanks a million mate!!
From what I've seen, this is a great entry. As long as they properly support it, I think it'll do good. The sounds I've heard from it are really good and I think the form factor is really nice actually. I have a Helix floor that I love, but I have to say this Fender unit actually intrigues me.
Its totally bad ass how far reaching and forever universal EVHs stamp is....his equipment STILL dominants the most extremes of music. He embodies any type of raunchy, heavy guitar. Forever the man
So interested in this
Competition stimulates business even if you are not interested in that particular device. I think it's also pretty expensive here in germany @ 2000€
Excellent presentation video brother.
Blessings to you !
Another anxiety inducing, option paralysis device, lol. You make everything sound great! Was hoping for a review of the new Friedman unit, which is in route to my home.
It seems like a really expensive Fender GTX100 amp in a floor model with a few cool options. Always thought the GTX was a sleeper of a combo amp. For that price and not modeling, it needs way more amps to choose from (ENGL, Soldano, more EVH, More Bogner, etc).
Shootout for sure. I’m not sold on the quad cortex or others, but this one gives me hope since it’s a big name entering the space.
I agree that Fender has done a great job with this floor modeler. If they continue to support it well with firmware updates that tweak the feature set and a user community develops to build presets that are shared out for others to use, then they will have a big hit. I would like them to add more high gain amps (Engl, etc.) to reach out to us metal guys further but I would expect that will come with time.
sounds great mate :D
Is there a "digitech drop" style drop tune effect? If so, how is it? Do the pedals change patches as you press them down or as you release them? I hate how the headrush changes patches as you remove your foot
Thanks for the video!
please do a shootout between this, whichever headrush multi effect you have and the quad cortex (or if you dont have it, the line 6 helix instead)
I really like the idea of this thing.
I wanted a tone printer like the tone x or the Kemper but this thing is more well rounded and your demo showed me I can use my own cab with the thing which I’ve heard doesn’t work well with these kinds of units and you definitely overcame some objections I had with the unit based off of user reviews.
I really like the amps in it and I need a flexible situation that functions well live because I’m a metal guy but I want to do worship at my church as well so I need all the effects which seems to be where the tone printing devices are lacking.
Not to mention the difficulty to change on the fly
I love this thing. I've replaced my helix based mostly on the UI. I have always hated having to use the Helix to make changes. This unit is just fantastic to work with.
Looks and sounds amazing! I just noticed that Neural dropped the price on the QC today as well. Coincidence, I think not lol. In your opinion, which one would you buy?
QC
Fender has a big advantage being that Fender can better replicate their own in house brand amps digitally. This,of course, includes the 5150 III.
How is switching between patches or amps? I’d like to know if it has a short blank in sound or lag when switching.
Funny that I had just read a "post" on TGP where someone was like, "I really wish Fender would release a modeling pedal..."
It seemed a lil bit contrived, and I was like... why?
Well. I'd dare say it was propaganda. Looks suspiciously like Fractal's quality design mixed with a dash of Helix. LOL
Sounds pretty solid. Granted, Thomas Blug still sells me on the Iridium and the Amp X. The amount how those products captures the tube amp sound and fill is unmatched so far with the nano tube technology not to mention the Iridium is budget friendlier. Although, the Amp X is about the same price range as this product. Regardless, digital is catching up extremely fast but if this and the other competitors products had a tube in it i believe it's gonna really shake the market.
I cant believe you ran out of dsp that fast where you couldnt use the nebula reverb thats a big bummer
I love that the real cab sounds better than the ir’s. This is how I would be using it myself. This one has hit my radar now. I’m interested but $1,700 is a bit steep. I’ll wait for a good used price for this.
In two years these Gen 1 TMPs will be priced at what they should have been from their inital release. $1700 is a miss. I understand they're trying to play in the premium space but that price is a big ask.
Great Video sir... Really like your delivery and production +1 sub
Thanks for the sub!
It sounds great but I think it's entering a market full of great sounding options. At this point it comes down to which user interface and form factor do you prefer.
bingo...Also, what is their plan for it long term? It looks to be very well built, the U/I seems fairly intuitive, and the sounds (the ones I've heard so far, at least) are really really good, so I can definitely see Fender selling a fair bit of units to younger guys in bands who gig regularly or are getting into the touring game for the first time, but what can it do to get older and/or more established guys to jump ship from Fractal or Line 6? that last bit is critical if Fender wants to really play ball
Neat that they actually have the amp names like the real things and not weird variants.
Props to them for licensing..
Looks badass and the screen is awesome. Expensive af though
Hmmm... I'm wondering how well this thing will works as a MIDI controller and fx processor, to replace a Line 6 HX Effects, switch an amp and operate Morningstar ML5 switchers for pedals and control other stuff...
The scribble strips, colored switches, and ability to edit on the unit with a good screen and twisty stomps is alluring.
I always enjoy a good shootout video!
Looks very cool but for that price I wish it would have had some kind of capture feature like the tonex/Kemper/new headrush.
Same here. At this price point the TMP needs to throw everything at us. No capture/profiling is a huge miss. The feature that sold me on the Headrush Prime was the capture capabilities. I love the HRP and am glad I bought it.
If I were to acquire a TMP it will be in two years on Reverb after the price is what it should have been at release.
I'll admit it doesn't sound bad. But for $1700, your money obviously goes much MUCH farther with an FM9. I think Fender really backed themselves in the corner pricewise, because of the Tone Master Amps. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they drop a core "blues club" next year for $999.
edit: After checking out some other videos and really listening to the drive sounds especially for the British style amps, I sort of take back what I said. they don't sound horrible, but they don't sound $1700 good either. Its going to be interesting to see comparisons between this and all the other modelers that's for sure.
Idk how Fender will fare in the market with this unit but I can say it is excellent. I understand that it has twice the number of cores than the QC. It is a powerhouse of sorts. The proper power cord and routing options are pro level. I am really enjoying the amp selection. It would great to see Orange, Hiwatt, and Engl models. I agree with you that it would cool to have all the EVH iterations. As far as workflow, it is really easy to use. The editor works smoothly. PS shop around and you will find a discount.
Great video.
excited to see the RG720
Great video, and great tone. I read that that this is supposed to be a very powerful unit, yet you were running out of DSP when a second amp was added. Does it have separate DSP paths like Fractal and Helix? That's typically how I am able to get a clean amp and a dirty amp in the same preset, along with also doing a wet/dry/wet kind of setup as well. Is that possible with this unit?
Yeah, it does, I briefly show that in the routing portion… though I don’t know if that allocates processing like it does on the quad cortex. Good idea to test that out!
Ok cool! This unit is very intriguing, but at the same price point as the FM9 Turbo, it's a tough decision.@@TaylorDanley
That jewel light tho!
Even though the Tone Master sounds great, as for the posts I have seen,..
As a guitarist/vocalist for a band that plays in different tunings.. I find the Headrush Prime more useful.. So that is what I am striving for..
It looks and sounds like an upgraded Fender Mustang Floor.
Yes, the shootout, please!
This maybe just the beginning of the rollout with some of the features planned not implemented yet. But as the Taylor said there is enough already to compete in the modeler market place with other units in a similar price range. Would like to see reviews on the TM FRFR amp/cabs that were released at the same time.
🔥
Fender needs to make a more compact, cheaper little brother/Junior version of the Tone Master for Desktop users similar to the Ampero 2 Stomp
You never know, that may come down the road 🤷♂️
I use a GT1000 Core for that. And a Helix Floor for the rest.
Boss and Line 6 are still excellent.
Definitely would be awesome with a cab bypass. I like to run a real cab like you do. Also, I’d like to see you move the mic around in the cab block and see if it got closer to your actual cab because the unit cab sounded more dead center. I think if you moved the mic a little more off the center of the cab on the unit it might sound closer to your real cab that sounds awesome. I do geeky matching stuff like that always if I own gear that in a modeler. Also, does it have a pitch drop? That’s an essential for me that doesn’t crap out.
It does, and oddly I didn't test it. Most common question I get asked about modelers!
@@TaylorDanley You already sent it back? If not just tell me if it craps out. I had a QC a couple months after it came out and I use it to tune up also a half step and theirs crapped out and fell all over itself and couldn’t keep up.
Im more interested in that fender powered speaker 🔊 1000 watts?
That's awesome!
I would love to see Fender add a Machete model to this in a future update!
Sounds and looks great but its too mutch expensive.
For the same money i can buy a Marshall studio Silver Jub + the Marshall matching 2x12 cab + a Boss Me-90 to connect in 4cm...
For mutch less money, BOSS GT-1000 does it all, and in some cases even more!
Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
Dual amp setup is possible even in HX Stomp... and on full blown Helix 4 amps could be used in single preset...
Helix is still beautiful.
Lets gooo show us that beehive tone on another device!!
16:00 - 16:08 sounded like an old lost Max Cavalera riff lmao
A shootout video with all the big players (Kemper Stage, Quad Cortex, Headrush Prime) would be great!
Very cool and I love the naming of that preset as Fart lol cracked me up !!! 😂🤣😂
I'm just here to make jokes and chew bubble gum... and I'm all out of bubble gum...
I didnt know, that i need this thing
How does it compare to the Fractal in terms of amp feel and effects quality? I love my fractal but man, the interface here looks so much better. Obviously quantity is much lower but does it feel and sound similar enough?
Hard to say without playing them back to back... but I'll do that soon
@@TaylorDanleywhat you recomment i want Waste my money😅,,this or EVH Stheal ?
I hear a clicking sound during the high gain sound. Like a processing clipping or something
Taylor, can you please do a video of the new firmware update with the EVH.
YES I CAN
Something about the touch screen is off.....its not responsive enough.....but killer sounds though......
Who doesn't like a good shootout?!
If you can, please try to get a strat, tele, and a couple non-fenders to make it a proper "Two-Guns" type of shootout
I think I finally will sell my GT1000. The quad cortex almost had me, but with their update and not fullfilling promises bullshit they pushed me away.
This Fender thing looks pretty solid.
Thank you for the video.
I sold my GT-1000 cause it wasn’t that great !! Wanted a 5150 and then saw the TMP !! Gonna buy it for sure
@@D1rectedBy I've decided (once more) to stay with the GT1000. All in all I think it's a great unit, once you've learned the user interface. What convinced me, was Leo Gibson's video about latency test.
@@chrizzlerguitaroni1928 That’s nice !! If it’s work you it’s all good 🤘🤘🤘
How do I turn off the subtitles?
What where are the tubes does it have new tubes nanotubes where the tubes I need tubes it must have tubes and then expression pedal or two
The effects do sound about half as good as boss.... Which is a compliment. Boss just kills the effects... Thats me owning a helix saying this
Only to light the Display it sucks an additional 20W.
Which is easier to navigate...the tone master pro or quad cortex???
About the same honestly. I like the TMP UI more personally.
Ill hangout for the LT unit. Itll be smaller, and better priced
The Pitch shifter would be interesting.
Taylor does the Tonemaster have Amp Capturing?
I’m not Taylor.. but no it doesn’t.
Anthony do you think this was a mistake by fender not to include amp capturing at the price of the Tonemaster?Quad Cortex,Headrush Prime have amp capturing at the same price or even cost less then the Tonemaster?
Do the shootout!!
This better than Helix? They are same price. Not sure which is better
Shoot out video !!
So you cant download your own tones?
Did you end up keeping the jackson ?
Yes!
yeah cool !!! @@TaylorDanley
They should have put a wah/vol/expression pedal on.
$1700 is pretty too much to be honest, I mean, have some cool features, but, for that amount I highly prefer fractal, line 6, kemper or neural
Exactly, if I'm going better than my helix I'm going QC or Fractal
Definitely do a shootout.
MSRP $1699 but the first European price I've seen is $2000 (converted from euros for comparison). That's hefty. True disruption would've been possible if the price point was below, I dunno, $1400? Looks great through, combines the best UI features from other units like the Helix and QC, feels a bit like Amplitube graphically.
Here in Canada it’s 2350$ without taxes ! So almost 3K :/
Direct shootout with axefx and other stuff please
I think you missed a P in the model number of the Ibanez on the whiteboard.
Not to give Fender a bashing.... But if the tonemaster tech is in this thing....which is already a huge failure compared to much cheaper, better , Katana.... Why would i spend $1699 on this with sounds not comparable to a 100 watt katana? 😂 At $379. Sorry but i have yet to hear a better sound out of this than my ladt pod go. I got amazing tones in minutes on that, and my Helix is pure insanity. Fender get rid of that.... Weird " digital" soubd im hearing in every demo and we will be happy to give it a spin at msybe $1200.... QC has capture.... Sounds out of QC killed it at launch, no launch killer tones heard here . Thank you for your deno dude 😎👊 you sir are awesome as usual... Fender go update this unit like now lol
1700 bucks huh... for that price it better have one heck of a good warranty. Fender puts their name on something and the price goes way high. Is it made in the USA or China?
Direct shoot out please!
Nothing Yonac Tonestack can do in a Audiobus setup with Fiddlicator an a good IR 😂🎉
Costs me in a good season just €50,-
Just get a xsonic xtone for aproc €250,- and your on your way, you can split your signal till your iphone gags its dsp ( 192Hz 24 bits)
Setup: Black Moor Fury unleashed and the Bass 15
I so much prefer fewer Amps modelled in depth with all switches instead of many half modelled amps.
Same!
When going from the real cabinet to the software cabinet, you need to play the exact same thing. Every time you switched you were playing a completely different thing
Makes it impossible to compare
😊
Definitely not worth $1699. Id say this is more in competition the old HeadRush gigboard.
Innovative, no. QC has the fancy encoders. All fender did was jack their idea but were smart and put scribble strips *helix*. The only plus is the screen and the actual graphics on the screen, buuuuuut Head Rush kinda did that first.
Would I replace my kemper with it, helllllllll no lol. If I had the money would i buy one, nahhhh, id wait til that things dropped to $900.
At $1699 youre paying for their licensing fees. Not worth it.
To me this looks like its primary appeal would be for a studio owner. It's ideal for having up on a desktop as a permanent fixture to provide sounds and models for your clients
I forgot headrush has capture at 999 on the new core.... So $1699 with no profiles or capture??? Not a good move
