It’s no joke. I was an electronics tech for years and I had hot flux hit my eye. Some smoothing surgery to the surface but at least glasses can be made now. Happened in a split second. I was wearing glasses but not safety glasses. Be careful .
I worked as an electronic tech for a long time and the one good piece of advice I can give you is, when you're done soldering even for a few minutes, wipe your tip on the sponge then apply just a little flux-cored solder. Your tip won't oxidize and it will take solder easily the next time you need it (after a sponge wipe). I've had tips last for years and they always work well.
Paddle is in the mail!! Can't wait to hear how you like it. Definitely light weight (1oz for the paddle and envelope) HiHi 73, Becky N4BKY es Mike N4FFF
We have a pretty good collection of old stuff ... thanks to Michael, HiHi!! We both love these little paddles and they are a great way to get started on a paddle because of the low cost. 73, Becky N4BKY es Mike N4FFF
Love the study/shack especially the typewriter and calculator. Great work with the keys and soldering.. I have the small one my friend printed for me.. My main shack key is a Begali Sculpture. Trust you have done the update firmware for the QMX with the CW filters. 73 Phil G0BVD
Thanks Phil, Michael loves old typewrites and the calculator/register was an antique find a few years ago! Maybe someday we will try a Begali key, but then I'm afraid we won't go back...HiHi!!! Also, we currently have the QCX mini, but our QMX is on order :-) 73, Becky N4BKY es Mike N4FFF
Thank you! We will definitely look into building more gear. I built the K6ARK EFHW and it actually worked! Not quite ready for a radio but maybe someday after a few other (less expensive) builds are successful :-) 73, Becky N4BKY es Mike N4FFF

Were these printed in PLA or PETG ? PETG will add longevity to the part, and help in hot environments. Another soldering tip, not a critique. Tin your tip(add solder to the tip of your iron), it helps immensely with transferring heat from the tip to the part so you don't spend too much time touching the parts... like night an day. 73 VE3RIM
@@MadGoat Ian, thanks for the comment and hunting us! They were printed with petg. We had one printed with pla at our local library first. It worked fine at first but didn't hold up great. The ones printed with petg are definitely better! 73 Mike N4FFF es Becky N4BKY

Hey Stu! It was a fun and pretty easy build and the paddles are great to take for POTA! 73, Becky es Mike
I'm glad to see you are wearing glasses for safety while soldering. I have a picture of a solder splatter on my glasses, so glad I was wearing them!
And I need the glasses to be able to see the tiny parts ... HiHi. It's a double win!

You can leave your spool of solder on the table and unroll a good amount to be able to reach your work. When done, just roll it back onto the spool.
