Lovely shots and a good choice of music. I've not been to Slimbridge for some years and this has inspired me to visit again. Never seen a Water Rail yet so will be looking out for those beauties. Cheers
Thanks for another great video, enjoyed watching with a glass of red wine on saturday evening very relaxing yet so informative. I plan a trip to Slimbridge next week, only 15 miles down the road.
Nice to see my local reserve that I have gone to many times. Like you I go to those hides in the morning and then when the reserve opens(9:30) I always go to the Zeiss Hide and the South Finger hides on the other side of the reserve to hopefully photograph the Bittern(that's if he appears!). And yes I have been very successful seeing/photographing/filming the Bittern!.
What a great spot. I've added this to my bucket list. The Lapwings were quite common when I was younger and lived in Lancashire. Must be over 40 years since I've seen one. I enjoy your casual style of commentary in your videos. There's a huge amount of knowledge in that head of yours that can only be acquired by years of bird watching and photographing birds. Great video. Keep them coming!
Cleefee Pools in South East England still a home to winter swarms of lapwings, such an aerobatic birds. Entire themes estuary is a good place for winter visitors. Thank you for great content👍
Mike, as always, great images & video. I was especially interested in your visit to Slimbridge. I'm a member but last visited 2 years ago, just before Covid hit. I've not seen your endeavours before from somewhere that I know, so especially interesting. Absolutely grrreat.
membership is great Mike to gain early access and leave before the crowds LOL.....I'm always away by 11 am, not trying the Olympus gear anymore Mike? sticking with the Sony, I'm coming to the same conclusion myself, although I might look at an OM1
Mike very wonderful instructive meditative video. Can you describe what Tripod you have there and if it comes with the head or is that separate etc. etc. thanks for doing these!!!
The head is a Vision Blue video head. I do not know the tripod brand. It cost £50 off Ebay. It is a double barred type, which is more stable than normal tripods. It has a 75mm bowl top instead of a flat top. The Vision Blue head then sinks into that bowl.
Great video, will be back in the UK in June, hoping to get to Slimbridge, it has been several years since I was last there. Are the hides only open to members?
@@MikeLaneFRPS Thank you Mike, I will be at Gingrin Farm and plan to visit Slimbridge. Also after watching your Wiltshire video, it reminded me I need to visit that area too.
Very nice video many different species lovely images and hovering Bullfinch, I enjoyed it very much. The Water Rail were interesting as the images to me showed grey plumage on the front of the bird but in a later video of the bird the plumage looked blue. Was the differing colours due to light or something else ? Thank you again for the video.
Hi Mike any sign of your Om1 yet not to long I hope as I am looking forward to your comparison with the A1.. I have the camera now and I most say the autofocus blows the em1x away as I have taken shots of birds in flight that I would never of got with the em1x. Also I am very impressed with the camera so far, by the way some really nice pictures there.
The Lapwing used to be one of my favourite birds as well. It still is, of course, but I almost never see it these days. Everywhere in the Danish farmland they lived in my childhood and youth. But due to more efficient draining as well as the extensive use of pesticides - against EU regulations, but tolerated by our politicians who dare do nothing to upset the farmers, the Lapwing has become a rare sight. The Lark who used to be the most numerous bird in the country, is suffering too, and the Blackbird is now in the majority.
Well done Mike Winter is making beautiful spectacle of nature. ps: please to appraise my short movie about Frozen lake in Primeval Nature. Thanks watching👍

The hides are open to anyone, but you have to pay to enter Slimbridge or be a member.
