My finches aren't tame, but they are still very rewarding little pets! It's heart warming when you put the felt from the tumble dryer door in their cages, and see part of your jumper incorporated into their little nests!
@@AmyLe01I don't think shyness is the problem but more out of fear/ self protection, mine would run in the cage as soon as he finish bathing, yeah run not fly 'cause is to drenched to be able to fly anymore ; is pretty clear that he feel unsafe outside his home when he can't fly ( since he can't escape by running ) so the wild ones must be even more carefull

i HAVE A Zebra finch ,called "BEAK",cheeky and tempered ,,tinsel round his cage at christmas ,got dragged in pulled apart ,and flown up to top of cage ,then dropped in to hanging water bowl ,now he flies up to top of cage ,and shoves it out through thr bars on to the floor ,and waits on me picking it up ,..he wont hand land as much as i try ,im afraid of frightening him
If you want to hand rear one that has untamed parents how late can you start feeding and handling them ? Must you then keep them apart from their parents that are afraid of you ? Will they remain tame if they only interact with you in the evening and they are alone (or with their tame siblings) most of the day ?

+Tryinglittleleg If you meant which mutation of a zebra finch it is by saying zebra species , then the female is probably fully pied or fully white while one of the male is Chestnut Flanked, Black breast, Normal grey split to pied. The other male that showed up seems to be also chestnut flanked , orange cheeked , black brested, normal grey split to pied... You cant really tell the all of the genes they carry though , maybe there are other genes that dont show up on this finch only their off-springs may show the other genes .. hard stuff to learn heh :P

You have to raise them separately first. They would not follow you if they have their brothers or sisters with them

I believe you have to put your hand inside their cage a lot of times, sometimes with food. They will get used to eat and start eating out of your hand
Hand feeding them from 10 days old, don't let them see other birds and hold them in your hands everyday for 1/2 hour
