I agree with you Sean. I can only fish with my flies. To be able to make something with my hands that blends into nature so well that a fish wants to eat it is exhilarating. I also like to modify a pattern to make it a more creative process.
I just find it relaxing Seàn... i also find i only use my own now... you are spot on about being confident using them... we all have our wee secrets! 🤣
@@jamescompston2678 absolutely James, great for the head too. When people say he's already fished through a pool and no joy, I always think...yeah but he hasn't fished through it with one of these...😂
Very well explained Sean. And I agree it is a hobby in itself that gets hold of you. I too have spent a small fortune on this hobby but to catch on your own is the ultimate. But always make sure to tie a couple of that same pattern, just in case.😊👍
Catching a salmon on a self made and designed fly from the materials available will always be the ultimate buzz for me. Perhaps it will remain a joy and hobby when my shoulders eventually pack up on me but until then I will continue to chase my dog around and interfere with pheasants in order to obtain some fluff to tie with
An older man working in an Angling shop said to me years ago “that fly tying was more expensive than fishing/fly fishing its self.” He was and still is 💯 % spot on!
Great video. Yes, it's really fun to ty fly, and you caught fish on it. It's a real bonus, too 👍👊

100% agree, i had to build a loft extension as a tying room. Spent £1000's on materials as i tie for Salmon, Trout and Big Saltwater use.
