Vande Sangeetam!
To music, I take a bow. It gives us so much, from rejuvenating our spirits and cleansing our mind, to a sense of physical well being and a definite spiritual direction if we choose. Sometime during our life, we need to prostrate before this power. We attempt here to share all that it has given us- Composers, ragas, thoughts on puranas. We also try to look at what we should do, individually and collectively, to ensure that its purity and profound beauty are passed on to the generation next.
Recorded in natural settings at Kalakshetra campus, Chennai.

Anandha bhairavi is so Slow, Smooth, Silky, Simple and Sweet.
Always simple things have more mass appeal than complicated and difficult things.
Small wonder Anandha bhairavi had won a unique place both in classical music and folk music.🙏
The more I listen to your presentation on the beautiful ragas, accompanied by a detailed analysis on how each composer has interpreted the raga, apart from the scholarly treatment of the subject , I am always hit by the realisation, how everytime a "voice-only" rendition magnifies the grandeur of a composition. In today's presentation, the illustrations of gopucchha yati and srotabaha yati in Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam is yet another example of this. The beauty of these attributes of Dikshitar's stellar composition often feels lost in a concert stage as the musical accompaniments seem to "gang up" on the lyrics; as a listener I frequently miss these aspects unless I am already aware and actively looking for these when a composition is being presented. What I heard today is clearly the most outstanding presentation of "Thyagaraja yoga vaibhavam", as far as highlighting the yatis are concerned!
Ananda Bhairavi, with its humble, down-to-earth origins has eventually been enriched by so many composers, an analysis on this Raga will always be looked forward to. Thank you for exploring so many facets of it including the folk songs.... absolutely beautiful! Folk music from every state, every country, touches a different chord in our hearts; the "kummi" song did just that! From the very free-spirited folk songs to the erudite compositions of Shyama Shastry- that was a fantastic exploration of the raga, every piece was commendably curated, delightfully presented!
I had read somewhere on the internet that Saint Thyagaraja was very impressed by the rendition of an AnandaBhairavi composition by a puppet dance troupe/ Kuchipudi troupe( accounts varied) and had wanted to give a gift to the performers. They had humbly asked the composer to relinquish his rights on AnandaBhairavi forever; he should not ever sing or compose in this Raga, and this story would earn the dance troupe a position in the history of music. Apparently this is a reason behind Thyagaraja not having as many compositions in this popular raga, not sure if this is a true story. The few that exist were composed at an earlier stage of his life.
All in all, a fabulous presentation! Always looking forward to the next episode!
You've shared very interesting information. Thanks
Lovely, great analysation
Madam, your comments have added to the richness and glory of the raga and the excellent presentation by Vijay Siva Sir. Pranams..
Great going , a mine of information for posterity
So true about its appeal and divinity. Wayback in 1968-69 when music was recorded on spool tape recorders, a Punjabi mechanic-techinician used to come home to change the recording head of our taperecorders. While going around doing his job, we asked him whether he had acquired a taste for Carnatic music because he git to listen to it a lot in his job. His reply was no, he had not learnt much, but he could identify and loved Anandhabhairavi. That is the universal appeal of this divine raga.
Extraordinary exploration of Anandabhairavi. It was Anandam unlimited 🙏🙏
Wov, I did melt down for this Ananda Bhairavi, what a wonderful analysis on how the composers handled it and lot of subtle information about the Ragam

Beautiful program. Eagarly
Expecting the next.
Vyasa koota-Madhva pontiff and musicians , musicologists and Dasa koota also musicians and musicologists have used Anandabhairavi, both simple and complex varnamettus and suladees, they are missed out in this presentation, except the popular 'Ramanama payasakke'. Infact, one episode on vyasa and dasa koota compositions can be made and presented as archive material.
Vidu.Sudha Raghunath or Vidu.T.S.Sathyavathi and few more Vidushees of Bengaluru and Mysuru can make EkaRaga Vyasa-Dasa compositions.
Great description of raga devata Anandabhairavi
As always we are fortunate to get to know all these wonderful information and rendition. Sir, could you please elaborate on why Anandeswarena only on special occasions? Thank you so much.

Your guru DK Jayaraman sir used to sing yet another beautiful composition of oothukadu Venkatakavi - prema swarupa with chitta swarms very beautiful 🙏🙏
B
The chittaswaram in Marivera by Shyamasastry is a masterpiece! The Oonjal song in south Indian weddings in Anandabhairavi
brings all the flavor of weddings. Is there a story of Saint Thyagaraja making a promise to one of his admirers not to compose any
song in Anandabhairavi because the latter had made one which drew the praise of the saint? The admirer felt that any song from the saint would
eclipse all others including his own humble effort! May be,it is just a story.
Excellent explanation.
Pahi Sri

This video got me curious about Anandeshwara and I got to hear the rendition by Smt. D.k.Pattammal. What a profound composition. Still curious why you did not sing it. Ananda Bhairavi oda ranjakama romba anandama ketten. Humble namaskarams.
ஆனந்த பைரவி ராகம் பற்றி தங்கள் விளக்கம் கேட்டு ஆனந்தம் கொண்டேன்.
Nee balamaa, naama balamaa composed by Thyagarajar was my first introduction to Ananda Bhairavi.
It is commonly thought by musical scholars that Ni Balama Nama Balama was not a Thyagaraja composition but rather composed by one of his students and passed off as a Thyagaraja compsosition
Can we say " சுகமான சுமை"
