Buried in snow: Myoko, Japan

  • Consistent heavy snowfall and below freezing temperatures have kept snow levels high and continuing to grow in Myoko this winter.
And today was yet another big day of snow!
But keep in mind there are days where I can be double or more!!
As for now, the big snow walls and snow piles are growing…and it looks both beautiful but also concerning.
Take a walk with me through the lower part of Myoko to enjoy the winter scape. It’s very impressive to see nature in full force a day after the heavy snow.
What do you notice in the video? Does anything stand out to you? How would you feel about this kind of snow and how would you manage it?
Thanks for watching! Please like, subscribe, and get notifications on my new videos :)

I am a Japanese living in the UK. I grew up in Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture, but many of my relatives used to live in the Joetsu area, and I have fond memories of visiting Myoko frequently as a child. Despite the ongoing aging society and population decline, I am delighted that people like you appreciate the charm of this area and share information about it.
You might find it hard to believe, but about 500 years ago, the Joetsu area, located north of Myoko, was one of the most populous regions in Japan (at that time, Kyoto had the largest population, and Tokyo was scarcely inhabited). Although summers are hot and winters bring heavy snowfall, this area is rich in nature and produces many delicious crops and foods. I believe that this place will shine again with the hands of new people.

I really love how sound changes when it snows. It has a really beautiful quality to it. It reminds me of cozy evenings spent sitting around the fire with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book. I hope you enjoyed your snowboarding. It's not safe for me to walk around in the snow these day as I use crutches but it's lovely being able to come along with you as you enjoy yourself.❤

Knowing how much you enjoy the snow I’m happy for you.
I’m in Massachusetts, US and we’ve only had a couple small snowstorms and it keeps getting warm enough to melt everything.
I protected by yuki tsuri a few planted trees with bamboo after watching one of your videos.

I never would have thought that getting that much snow would look so beautiful. You see, I live in one of the coldest, and snowiest cities in Canada (nicknamed Winter-peg). Yet, it does not get snow as bad as that (usually). When I looked up where Myoko is, I was surprised to find out that it is not that far North from Tokyo. I expected it to be in the Northern end of the Japanese islands to get that much snow. So, thank you very much for this very informative and beautiful video.

Aomori, Sapporo in winter almost every week snow falling the reason why it is the number one snowiest place on Earth.

    • @inflikktion
      @inflikktion 18 днів тому

Aomori is the snowiest city with over a million inhabitants, not the snowiest in the world.
The snowiest city of any size is Tokamachi in Niigata prefecture, and the snowiest inhabited place on earth is a few towns over in Tsunan.
For some perspective, Tsunan town gets, on average, over *twice* the snowfall of Aomori.

I'm enjoying watching the snow from Arizona, US right now xD
The snow banks remind me of when I was little in Idaho, I used to dig out the inside of the snow and make "igloos" - basically making the snow banks into a clubhouse to hang out in. Surprisingly not cold INSIDE the snow lol!
I wish I could live there and have my kids experience the same, but as an adult, after 23 or so years in AZ, I can't handle the cold anymore.

Can you collapse your snow wall onto the street for the plow
Did you find a snow saw when you moved in or bought one since(collapsing snow block would be easier) & clearing the roof could be easier when it doubles in depth though it's shallow enough to be able to cut with the Japanese Scoop(can't get them here)

The fire hydrant looks like a garden gnome with it's pointed hat.😄 Do you have snow shoe trails there? Love the blanket that you found for your front door, is it from Japan? Deep snow is the reason why your boots have laces at the tops, yes?

Endless options for snowshoeing here! Lots of flat areas to explore with and without trees for some peaceful walks. Yes, I picked the blanket up online and it works great! Yep, the laces are to close the boot but I’m considering upgrading to the pants with built in boots. It’s waist deep sometimes 😅

As I am watching this , hearing you say you want to set up your camera, i was thinking about those relaxing videos with music and some cozy background image repeating , that is what you should create and put it up on UA-cam. with some kind of jazz or instrumental music going on.

Matt I'm here in Tampa Bay Florida lmfao 😂😅😂 wondering if it's easier to get out of your back door and then seeing all of the snow ❄️ 😂 🤣 in your backyard. And then when I saw your house roof so thick with the snow and icesickles. It's in the 50's and 60's here and I'm cold. If only we could take some of that snow ❄️ away from you guys 😂😂😂.

Wish I was in Japan right now or we had Japanese standards of efficiency here.
We got a dump of snow overnight (about a foot) and the no one's clearing anything. The roads are almost impassible and I was practically snowed in today and had to fight to leave.

Ohh don’t worry. I did! I just don’t need to rush out with all the resorts close by and the endless lines. I went to one of Japans biggest powder resorts yesterday called Seki Onsen. I made a video for it and need to put it together. Big powder day as you would imagine

Oh my gosh... that's more snow then I've ever seen in one place. Half of that would put Germany in snow catastrophy mode. *laughs* But I would love a portal to come over helping shoveling snow, I love shoveling snow and rarely get to do it. Have fun, it truely is spectacular!
