    It’s definitely not a cliche statement to support your local businesses. It’s a wonderful way to become more a part of the community. And you can also see the growth of the spirit of support around you reflected in the actions of others doing the same.
    This is genuine and wholesome support and I try to do the same in my community here in the states.❤

    Hi,I’m Christine, 75 myself and I live in Niagara on the Lake. I’m lucky to live here because the countryside full of vineyards and orchards resembles a bit your beautiful neighbourhood without the mountains. I have only recently become interested in Japan after purchasing the Quest 3 and using an app called “wander”that enables me to wander around the world in 360 ° VR. I’ve been (in VR) to many places and it’s the next best thing besides being there in person. We’re living in crazy uncertain times right now and VR gives me some peace and relaxation sorely needed nowadays! The winters must bring a lot of snow in order to cover certain structures completely. Thanks for your beautiful video, I subscribed and I’m looking forward to see more of your neighbourhood!❤️

    Thanks for the walk through a Japanese mountain neighborhood in the summer. Enjoyed every step, loved seeing the flowers. Your life ... finding your hidden treasure house and remodeling, living in Japan ... a chance for me to explore outside of my world. Am loving it!

    wow, so appreciate you taking the time to actually walk around the neighbourhood, so impressed, no fences around homes was something different, but no one else walking in the mid day heat, even the train station lacked people. Thank you for the tour.

    We bought a large commercial space (7500sq ft) that has an uninsulated bow-truss roof. We were told by one architect that this style of roof was uninsulated since the heat from the building's interior was meant to help melt the snow on the roof. Now with new codes in place insulation is required either on top of the roof itself or under the roof.

    I cannot believe they have -10 temperatures and ZERO insulation. smh I live in San Francisco, California in the US and we have very moderate year round temps, and our houses without insulation are uncomfortably cold in the winter, especially with single pane glass. I can't imagine living in -10 C temps like that.
    That new sports center looks impressive, at least from the outside. Also, it seems like biking is synonymous with Japan, so I can hardly believe mountain biking is not a popular sport already?
    What a lovely walk/tour around your area. Thank you for inviting strangers into your town~

    I have a video suggestion if you don't have it already or if you are already planning. Perhaps a video about how hard it is to become legal to drive and what types of paperworks you had to deal with both with visas, house, etc? I've been really interested in the possibility of moving to Japan so I'm looking for different perspectives on those things. Great video as always Matt!

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 5 місяців тому +1

      I would think an international driving license should do the trick? Heck, when I was in AU, I used my US driving license to rent cars and drive around. It was fairly easy to drive on the opposite side of the road. I did keep turning on the wipers instead of the turn signal, though. lol
      Great video suggestion though! Even if it is just an int'l driving license requirement.

    • @bbhybris
      @bbhybris 4 місяці тому

      @le_th_ only certain licenses csn be transfered to a Japanese license without doing a driving test. If it's a US license you must do a test

    Delighted to have this view of your countryside life. What a charming town with so many amenities within a short walk. Even the 5-10 minute drive to reach larger DIY or grocery centers is hardly an inconvenience. Thank you, too, for pointing out that with Japan's size, "the middle of nowhere" is barely half a morning's distance from Tokyo. The added bonus of hot springs direct from the volcano dotted around town and the shared recovery pool at the rec center are amazing. So tempting. However, the deal breaker for me is snow. Not a fan of more than a sugar dusting of it glitter-on-a-greeting-card style. Not even for a $6000 home.

    • @im.mattguy
      @im.mattguy  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the comment! The snow can really be a deal breaker especially for people that would just like a temporary place whether they’re Japanese or international. It comes with a lot of unknowns and responsibilities.
      I remember at least 4 mornings last winter where I woke up to 90cm/3ft of snow. It takes some getting used to beyond that it’s going to be a great ski day - it brings some dangers and more labour in everyday life. For now it’s a great match for me :)

    I watched this with my dad. I live in rural(ish) Kagoshima but he enjoyed the walk. I had to explain the weeds in the neighborhood and the rough looking outdoor patio look of the closed coffee shop. He was expecting neatly trimmed geass and nice tables.
    You made it pretty easy to find your home on Google maps. Not that it matters. I checked out the food at that closed restaurant. It looks AWESOME. Not the menu I'd expected. You are lucky. You have a rural feel but not really rural. Restaurants, hospital, hotels, ATM, post office, etc. ive got none of that near my house. Rice fields, tea fields, and mountains... but we do have a Family Mart and 7-11. Everything else is at leadt 20 minutes walk or 5km by car.

    Just stumbled on your channel and my, you hit lucky with this house, it’s just stunning. When you take the camera through it, each new room makes me smile and your neighbourhood has everything you could possibly need. Japanese residential planning works so well, everything you need a short walk away and lots of small businesses to support. My village in the uk has no public transport and no restaurants or shops and it has three times the number of residents. I hope you do tours in the future, would love to try early retirement in such a place. Is your Japanese perfect, what level did you reach before moving?

Some of my concerns at the time you touched on in this video, like what the food and entertainment options are, how you manage snow on your roof especially if you're not there, etc. I'm very interested to find out why you ended up choosing Myoko out of all the other places you've been to in Japan? I only visited in April last year to look at the property and it seemed very pretty at the time.

      It doesn't snow in half of Japan. There are many areas where real estate is cheap. As for convenience, this is Japan, so there's no need to worry. In fact, even in Tokyo, there are many areas where real estate is quite cheap if you go to the suburbs. The central areas of Tokyo and Osaka are expensive. I live in the countryside in Hiroshima, and real estate is relatively cheap. It doesn't snow here either.

      Hi! :) They’re around, I try to avoid filming people when I can. But it’s also summer and not a lot of people like to walk during middle of the day in the heat

    Did I hear him right?? A construction company whose workers are all in their 70s?! That’s unbelievable and inspiring. A bit sad too. Japan really needs to go into action on their population issues before it’s too late. It might already be too late.

      The workers love it. They could retire but they love building. Very proud of their accomplishments:)
