I remember doing this back on Rigs of Rods, it was always a challenge getting vehicles around the course successfully due to RoR's funky handling model. Ahh, the memories.
No, that wasn't the radiator smoking later on, that was the exhaust no longer being attached to the vehicle so gas was just leaking straight out of the engine. You could tell it wasn't steam because it was too grey.
Usually to overheat the car you have to have 100% throttle for long periods (backing off lets it cool a bit). I wonder if BeamNG have coded loss of heat with the hood open/missing? (doubt it). Sorry, just remembering Roadkill (if overheating, remove hood)
There are 2 types of turbo cooling actually, oil cooled or water cooled. All turbos are cooled with oil, but you can have additional water circuit that helps to cool the turbo. Superchargers are usually not cooled per se. They turn at less RPM than turbos, and they are not run by hot exhaust gases, so it's not that needed. Intercooler is what provides cooling to superchargers - it prevents hot air build up. Although I remember seeing some external coolers for superchargers, and in some cases they require an oil feed (majority of superchargers are sealed however and have their own oil circuit).
Woolgun Personally, I actually knew about water cooled turbos, but I didn't realize superchargers could do without... not that I ever questioned why you don't hear about them overheating. I would have assumed they could compress the air intake enough to overheat though. The vehicles I see superchargers on ('50s and '60s cars) don't have intercoolers so I've never thought about superchargers having them.
Oh, and this is to Alex: IF you do decide to make this a series (which would awesome), don't be afraid to do expertly silly things, like taking a hill-climb SBR4 or Drag Moonhawk around it, along with more sensible things, like a Touring ETK 2400i. The point of this was to make a challenge that was decidedly FailRace, and I think I succeeded, but don't be afraid to put your own spin on it. In fact, I ENCOURAGE it. If you wanna take a silly vehicle around the course, take a silly vehicle along the course, it's all up to you. Sincerely, GoredonTheDestroyer (TankCatapult on the forums), the madman who came up with this.
Make this a series and maybe have a topdown view of the map with numbers along the track. like from start to finish 1-100 points on the track and then just count the points for every car so we can get a proper leaderboard at the end. And with more than one lap just add the numbers. 1 lap = 100 points + 56 points of the next lap for example. :)
Carlos Aponte actually, the steam doesn't go away at any point when the radiator is busted. If anything, it gets more intense, especially with further heat damage on the engine. Perhaps the problem is with the exhausts falling off and doing funny things with the smoke, as the exhaust fumes are coming straight out of the engine.
The game's radiator damage simulation works in a linear manner. If the radiator has just a small leak then it will not make a lot of steam. He probably did not see the effects of the leak until he had banged it up more and caused more damaged. I've tested it with the game's debug apps and that seems to be what happened.
Somebody needs to make a model of the 2005 Kia Sedona. I own that van in real life and I'm convinced its video game counterpart would plug along nicely. It has been for me, the whole front bumper is taped on and I've had to fix so many internal components, but it's only ever stopped on me once.
on the topic of radiators in beam the radiator, depending on how bad the damage is it = how quick the water will escape, this can also depend on radiator size as some hold more water also some radiators have stronger construction then others as well as positioning there are also plenty of other variables such as how the engine is built and how the ecu is tuned to handle things but that gets even more complex
you definitely need to do a part 2 on this series. and for the next one, just leave the car that you destroyed out there so you can mark how far on a lap its gone.
You didn´t try with the Bolide ? I did the supercar rally challenge in this game with the Bolide and I crashed it several times off the road and it didn´t die. Normally in videogames the sports cars are very weak and fragile, but the Bolide is really strong. Also Roamer can take a lot of punishment, unless it loses it´s wheels. This would be interesting series.
Drive the F1 car around the Nordschleife and see how many laps you can finish without crashing out!! (If possible you are allowed to go into the pits and repair your car)
I did something similar to this using the SBR4 on MX Backyard and I actually felt a bit bad about how abused that SBR4 ended up by the end. It couldn't even start the engine anymore under it's own power and had to be push started for the engine to turn over.
The rear axles are doing their own thing because they are solid axles: one big chunk of metal connecting the two rear wheels, basically. The links to the chassis can be damaged so that the axle sways on bumps, but can otherwise still deliver power.
theres a missed opportunity with this as a series. how about whatever cars you run down the course stay where they break as a visual reminder where cars break instead of just remembering where cars break
The reason the burnside didn't overheat as fast is because v8's make more power, hence going faster which means more airflow over the engine which has more surface area than a 4cyl and thus more efficient cooling
I´ve seen no youtuber who knew that when cars "brake" on Beam NG you just have to put the car on manual and then automatic again.Transmision gets going again
I know this is a stupid question, and I am late to the party. Where/how can I get an odometer to display on my display? And how do you manually turn the car upright after a rollover? Only started playing BeamNG recently and would love to test a few of my own rides...
Can you make this a thing? Call it Baja Beater Challenge or something like that. I'd love to see some seriously rare metal (Countach, etc) take this challenge on. You could time it and do a leaderboard that way instead of trying to figure out how many laps they've completed.
sorry i did not say anything earlyer, but i like the new thumbnails. it was about time for an update as u first started using the old ones wayback on November 25 2013
Recent updates have made the game really unstable. The game hit a snag calculating something with the car and it basically needs you to load a new vehicle.
failrace i just watched ur Carmageddon mod video and i was wondering if u could do a vs the army but u would be in a car obviously against army and Carmageddon also pls make this a series

yeah id really like to see this as a series like with the canyon rally course, just laps or percentage of a lap like 1.5 etc instead of times
Could always get the distance counter. :)
Great idea for a series since it shows off the two things I love about this game, the damage model and the degradation of vehicles.
16:23 No it's normal, when the radiator coolant is empty, it stop smoking
Ulrich D. And later it started smoking again
No, that wasn't the radiator smoking later on, that was the exhaust no longer being attached to the vehicle so gas was just leaking straight out of the engine. You could tell it wasn't steam because it was too grey.

Not really, but when you go fast enough the air cools down the car ^^
Ulrich D. water can be definitely used for cooling(unless you hidrolock the engine) but air i don't know
Do more of these I like the watching the cars slowly fall apart
I usually dont say this, but this would be a really good series i believe

The turbo was overheating due to the oil overheating, since basically turbos are cooled by the oil.
A supercharger doesn't require oil to cool down.
How are superchargers cooled? Water? Air?

Well I'm hoping a supercharger still gets oil though ;)
many roots type superchargers have the intercooler right under them going into the intake. doubt all but most.

I miss this circuit. my favorite driven til destruction circuit :)
Enjoyed it, definitely turn it into a series!
Loving the new thumbnail styles, easier to see. Also should make this a series but I guess that depends on beamng updates and the modding community
That sunburst's sunroof is incredibly strong... It's survived the car landing on it's roof multiple times.
Make this a series and maybe have a topdown view of the map with numbers along the track. like from start to finish 1-100 points on the track and then just count the points for every car so we can get a proper leaderboard at the end. And with more than one lap just add the numbers.

Do more of these,it's very entertaining :D
Please make this a series! I love the idea!
This is awesome!!! So this is what I've been missing while I've been addicted to AR12...
When all the coolant evaporates, the steam goes away.
Carlos Aponte actually, the steam doesn't go away at any point when the radiator is busted. If anything, it gets more intense, especially with further heat damage on the engine. Perhaps the problem is with the exhausts falling off and doing funny things with the smoke, as the exhaust fumes are coming straight out of the engine.
no, Carlos Aponte is right, the steam will go away eventually, radiators don't have unlimited coolant.
The game's radiator damage simulation works in a linear manner. If the radiator has just a small leak then it will not make a lot of steam. He probably did not see the effects of the leak until he had banged it up more and caused more damaged. I've tested it with the game's debug apps and that seems to be what happened.
I enjoyed this so much! I was rooting for that Sunburst, by the end.

Who remembers when FailRace had three presenters?
This was in my recommendations
"This is FailRace and today we will find out how the Mercedes Benz."
I'd say the 50% throttle was a dev placeholder but I'd prefer to think the engine tore itself apart so much even the throttlebody had it.
Somebody needs to make a model of the 2005 Kia Sedona. I own that van in real life and I'm convinced its video game counterpart would plug along nicely. It has been for me, the whole front bumper is taped on and I've had to fix so many internal components, but it's only ever stopped on me once.
This map is a classic. Rigs of Rods was awesome back in the day.
on the topic of radiators in beam
the radiator, depending on how bad the damage is it = how quick the water will escape, this can also depend on radiator size as some hold more water
also some radiators have stronger construction then others as well as positioning
there are also plenty of other variables such as how the engine is built and how the ecu is tuned to handle things but that gets even more complex

I did something similar to this using the SBR4 on MX Backyard and I actually felt a bit bad about how abused that SBR4 ended up by the end. It couldn't even start the engine anymore under it's own power and had to be push started for the engine to turn over.
The burnside only survived that long, because of the Downforce from the Trunk
The rear axles are doing their own thing because they are solid axles: one big chunk of metal connecting the two rear wheels, basically. The links to the chassis can be damaged so that the axle sways on bumps, but can otherwise still deliver power.

the cars with body on frame have a radiator support which shields the radiator so maybe that's why the Burneside did so well
