    For those watching in 2020, I scrolled through the comments and found she used 3-4 TBSP marshmallow root and 2 TBSP of slippery elm.

    I have finally found THE recipe that was a miracle for my hair that was so matted that I thought about grabbing my scissors and chopping. I used the first recipe with Shea oil and squeezed a lecithin gel cap in to emulsify. I now understand slip, and what it means to see the knots release their hold on each other and unlock.

  • @unabashed
    @unabashed 8 років тому +125

    TRYING ALL FOUR OF THESE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
    -From a very curly, kinky, bird's nest crowned girl who loses tons of hair every day because of knots and has to take scissors in the shower to detangle and her hair because every single strand is in a knot, and who should be bald by now from all of the knots but somehow still has a lot of hair but who wants it to be a lot longer but the knots have sabotaged that.
    THANK YOU.

      have you tried clarifying your hair for a fresh start and a light trim? what about your moisture protein balance? just giessing...

    • @unabashed
      @unabashed 8 років тому +10

      christine1962ful I would like to know more about that. I am still learning so much. I haven't done anything right with my hair for my entire life, and even in these past 7 years relaxer free (I used to get them like once or twice a year, not every year, but still would cave in and do it for the added manageability and I would flat iron my hair every week anyway...rarely wore it curly), I haven't come that far in my knowledge of what to do to really care for my care.
      I literally just learned a few months ago how to care for my scalp...my whole life, never paid attention to it. I am lucky to still have so much hair (not nearly as much as I used to though, with all of the tangles and resulting hair loss), but I feel like it would have been down to my ankles right now had I figured out how to treat it!
      I will definitely look into those things you mentioned. Thank you!

      @brsugarbabe 8 років тому +9

      The best thing you could do right now is get a professional trim. A lot of single strand knits is an indication that you need a trim. Otherwise your hair is going to break off. You then have to focus on low manipulation styles and moisturizing your hair.
      Try also prepooing your hair prior to washing. Makes a big difference in the detangling process.

    I can attest to using slippery elm and marshmallow root
    ! I use it as a leave in each week and... it makes your hair super soft!! And my mother suffer from hair loss (its thin in the middle) and I use it on her hair and it does make it grow!

    • @lisajenkins7692
      @lisajenkins7692 3 роки тому

      @Amehad Studies well I don't really measure but 2 -3 tablespoons or so of each ingredient (flax seeds, slippery elm and marshmallow root) in 2-3 cups of water. Boil until thick (15 min or so) and strain. Works wonders! Refrigerate it and it should last for about a week or so. And I use it to refresh my curls during the week also by putting it in a spray bottle and spraying it on and retwisting/braiding.

    Hi curly proverbs darling I'm new here just subscribed yay! I'm here to save my shredding , breaking transitioning texlaxed Afro hair. My hair line is shedding front and temples and I've just done the intensive henna treatment mixed my henna oil and henna tea. Should I do a henna gloss in two weeks (just done henna treatment 7th feb) . Can I spray henna tea in couple days after I've spritzed and sealed as well or would it be too much protein since I've just hennad my hair. Love you so much even though I haven't met you ..your hair problems before like shedding is very similar to mine now. I just want to not see any hair breaking as soon as I touch my head full stop argh!!!! I'm glad I'm here and will keep you updated on my henna gain journey. Where did you buy your rosewater ? I want to order henna from Shea cottage as well. Love Lydia (in Australia down under)

      +abigail pakuma Hey Love thank you so much for subbing and taking the time to comment sorry I am so late in replying but it can be difficult to spot new comments at times. I would use the oil and then build in the tea but I would not also then use a gloss as well. It would over load most hair types.

What is the next step after that? Deep condition? Can I blow dry after that? I will be a first time user of Henna tea treatment. How often can I use the Henna tea treatment? Can I add Indigo to the Henna tea treatment? Thank you in advance.

      I know this is an old comment, but for those still looking in 2018, there are diabetics with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) who would need to be careful of substances that would further lower blood sugar. Not all diabetics are hyperglycemic (have high blood sugar).

      I added the marshmallow and slippery elm with a conditioner that had no slip at all. Shook the conditioner and I was able to finger detangled my hair. Normally it which would take me 20 minutes and it was a nightmare. Having the two mix with the conditioner it took me 5 minutes. I am absolutely shocked. My daughter's hair is thick, long and curly it takes her 30-60 minutes to detangle her hair. When I added the concoction with her conditioner it took her 30 minutes to detangle her hair. I am amazed by the results and it's all natural.

    Hi CP, I love this video, thank you for making it for us curlies. What would also be really helpful for us in our journey is an answer to this question that has been asked numerous times; I too would like to know how much marshmallow root to the 1 cup of water did you use? Even if it was eyeballed, an estimate is always welcomed.

      Carol Smith It didn't, thanks for telling me. I really want to start making my own products though. From what I've heard the Black hair care products companies have now sold out with respect to their loyal customer base.

      You might try mixing it in with a leave in conditioner too see if that boosts slip, or whipping in some of your favourite oil to increase slip. Good luck finding something that works, trial and error is a pain sometimes.

    I am a new subscriber and I did not know that marshmallow had such slip to it. Questions:
    1. How long will a bottle last before spoiling, please?
    2. Is there any natural preservative that you would recommend, please? I would like to make sufficient to last me for more than one use.
    Thanks so much

    Hello, how long do I allow the Marshmello root to sit before straining it through a stocking? I might've waited too long and, straining it...... can you say difficult.

  • @jaz1elise
    @jaz1elise 9 років тому +2

    I was worried that the marshmallow root & olive oil recipe was going to have the leaves still in it, but then you said you were going to strain it. These seem like some great DIY detanglers/pre-poos for when my hair is a dry, frizzy mess (like now).
