Finding the dog tags really hit home. Much respect for our fallen soldiers. I cannot begin to imagine being on the receiving end of some of those weapons you found.

(thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

The number of undiscovered unexploded ordnance was estimated at 100,000 in 2013. The annually rate of bomb disposal is around 5500 bombs.

Could be restored, Bolt housing with barrel jacket seems intact and need clean up,trigger housing and internal components such as bolt assembly,barrel,recuperator,barrel bearing,recoil booster,bolt guiding rails and flash hider need replacement.. also buffer assembly,recoil spring,stock assembly feed tray and feeding top cover also need replacement... Very rarely you see MG42 main housing with barrel jacket to survive last scenes from WW2,mostly those main parts get rottened first as well as barrels... My friend in Latvia was digging something for me too,I came from Poland so as he but moved to Latvia and he digs lot of stuff from time to time depands on seasons and weather conditions.. His find was STG44 and now I got it,he sold me what was good out of it,main housing was good but barrel cutted off,bolt itself was an shit but carrier good as well as trigger housing assembly and end cap... Super rare to find in near good condition like this, STG44's is common artifact in Latvia or also well known as Kurland kettle,during WW2 advanced German devisions was reinforced that region and majority of troops was armed with MP44/STG44 so from time to time diggers finds STG44 and it's magazines.. Very rare items is G43's to spot and I not talk about FG42 there which would be 1 or 2 items for whole region.... German paratroopers was land in Finland and Lithuenia during WW2,Lithuenia had secret research facility where all German elite units was concentrate and majority was Paratroopers or Felschjirmjaggers that was ecquiped ith FG42's... FG42 rifle is most enigmatic and rare artifact to find,especially to mention that is was main prototype to develop M60 machine gun which operates same way at least same bolt mechanism and identical buffer assembly while trigger mechanism and belt feeding mechanism from MG42.. There was another rare Swiss prototype of STG45 which believed 1-3 models been made.. No much detailed photos of those but it is little related to MP40 brred with STG45 some ways but looks very amazing,magazine looks different than common MKB42/STG44...
check my first comment m8 I say strip it to just the reciver and sand blast it for 50 USD then buy a mg53 or mg42 or mg73 parts kit and rebuild it but if I was building it and if I ended up with a mg73 parts kit I would put a mg53 or mg42 bolt in it for extra fire rate.. in the USA its only illegal to build a full auto recivers ... but you can easily get a full auto trigger mech for 50 USD

Sometimes on a famous battlefield, but most of the times on locations no one knows about. That's the cool thing about it, you discover new WW2 locations everytime, without looking on maps.. Just think like the soldiers did in WW2, and you will find forgotten battlefields! Gr Nick
It's been 70 years, so that might be a little tricky. I will admit though, if he managed to do that and get them to the right families, that would be epic.
+Machine Gun Mike I did research on all the dog tags, and all of them are buried on U.S. cemeteries. A lot of the tags are field made dog tags. They used them for temporary grave markers. Gr Nick
illuminati_pepe what you will tell about me than:my best ever finding was MG42 as well!But unlike this one it was in the crate-just sent to the German paratroopers back then and never found until I got my luckiest ever signal!And the thing is that when I opened the crate I didn't believe my eyes:it was completely intact,without a single piece of rust and the smell was like from a haystack inside!And in addition to that I found out that it was also all matching,all 179 parts(even screws and springs had 2-digits numbers on them)!And the last thing I discovered while first observing my beauty was that the bore had a so called industrial blueing!Which meant that it was unfired since production in year 1943!So I was the first ever one who fired it since it was built,and as I seen,the blueing was gone after first dozen shots from it,which confirmed my guess! Anyway after that I registered it like semi-auto on my license(with help of my friends in Russian licensing and permission department)-and since then I even brought it with me to Ukraine and so,it finally arrived in action(or real battle)in year 2014! Now that's a cool stuff! Unfortunately when I went to Canada I had to lock it in my firearms safe in Russia-but it is still waiting for me..So pitiful that it is not legal here,even though I arrived here exactly because of the firearm laws which are in most cases better than in Russia,but still not in each case 😓 And I hope that once I will see the world changing and tearing apart these fucking retarded gun control laws(and bury those ugly bustards that spawned them in unmarked graves!)-so I will be able to reunite with all my collection both here and there!

Furry Friends if I would have brought even a quarter of the guns I found in Russia to police-their department would have been submerged in that pile and they would've died from asphyxiation🤣😎 And by the way even though it is not legal to register excavated firearms in Russia on your license-I just registered four of them through my friends in Russian licensing and permission department,now that's cool 😎
John Doe by the way not too great way to make it!The best way to disassemble it is soaking it in diesel fuel,at least that is what I did to literally hundreds of them!And after that try to save as many parts as you can-just using the metal brushing,citric acid and finish the rest of the gunk with the B-52 rust remover gel or ortophosphoric acid,as well as in the barrel!And the toughest part will be clearing the barrel inside(the bore).I just did that with a metal brush on the cleaning rod(after ortophosphoric acid),applied to a drill!And the last step(after assembling the whole firearm with replacing some of it's parts that are definitely gone!)is firing a couple of wooden bullets before just exploiting the firearm like it should be exploited!😉 By the way if you want to take a look at some of my restored guns-just write an answer to this comment and I will show you how it's made in pictures!😉

You're probably right. I forgot about the BAR. But there was the lend-lease program which sent US and British material to USSR...don't know if BARs were included in that though...
The hardest part of the MG-42 to acquire is an intact lower receiver, which could feasibly be salvaged from this example using some god-level rust removal techniques as well as some demonic gunsmith necromancy. Clean that up, get it into reasonably working condition, buy a mostly intact de-milled Mg-42 on the internet and replace any remaining missing/inert parts. We can rebuild him, Bubba has the technology.
Me and my friends found a British WW2 concrete bunker in Liverpool, England. It used to be an airfield, because you can still see where the runway once was, and also, there is a hangar or 2 with bullet holes coming through the sheet metal roof. If you want to know what I'm talking about, its on/near the Estuary in Speke, Liverpool.
You never know what you're gonna find.. but if there was.. it would be a shocking find.. but at the same moment a good find. Then we could give him a proper burial. So many soldiers never returned home..

dismantle it down to just the reciver take the reciver to a sandblast/metal shop have it sandblasted buy a Mg42/Mg53 parts kit assemble it and wholla you got yourself a Curio and Relic mg42 thats legal in US russia maybye and anywhere that doesnt have laws

Someone throw the MG42 down this wall probably 1945. Was it a a soldier from Allies destroying the German stuff or was it a German soldier after fighting has end. Was he sad that Germany now will probably end but still happy he had survided and the fighting is over to get back to the family? I'd love to watch out of a time machine going back to the moment the MG42 gets thrown down the wall.
Probably dumped by retreating German soldiers in 1944, or allied soldiers dumped it after it killed a lot of their man. Really interesting.. it would be so cool to see what happened there! Gr Nick
Thanks for your concern :-) I find a lot of explosives.. i'm always being really careful. Some of them can still explode.. even from the first world war. I good signal on the detector can be a nice gas mask canister.. or a bomb. You never know until you dig it.. Gr Nick
My grandfather managed to steal an mg 42 in the debris of a bunker after troops had destroyed it, it was in perfect condition with an ammobox near it both are in a case with little oxygen or moisture to avoid rust as it is now the airloom lmg from germany
When that MG42 fell back in after the magnets let go, I would have dived in and grabbed that thing. Never mind the potential danger of rust cuts, I'd still risk it for a piece of history.
This is fascinating! I have a huge interest in the Second World War and in particular, the planes of the time. My great grandfather served on a Motor Torpedo Boat in the British Navy during the war but like many, he didn't talk about it and sadly I was very young when he died. +k98100 Very cool! My grandfather has the war medals earned by my great grandfather but i'm not sure if we have any other items. Our family is quite well spread out around the UK so there could easily be more memorabilia down south which I haven't seen. Will have to ask my family about it!
You might try electrolysis on the MG42 once it thoroughly washed. Manual trickle charger, washing soda, water of course. Sacrificial anodes, make sure everything is hooked up right or it will eat the MG rather than the rust. It will buzz the rust right off.
Reminds me of Fall out 4 making a Rusty pipe rifle or something....take it to the workbench and make a "polished MG42" or something haha...wish FO4 had one. Thats pretty cool though, finding an old ass LMG. Best thing my bro and I ever found was a Katana in bed sheets out behind our house....and that was just randomly looking around the field.

Just contact the Red cross. they are responsible for tracking down fallen soldiers. they will forward it to the appropriate people.
The last names where cut out so the Germans did not know who you are so you can't return it

The hardest part of the MG-42 to acquire is an intact lower receiver, which could feasibly be salvaged from this example using some god-level rust removal techniques as well as some demonic gunsmith necromancy. Clean that up, get it into reasonably working condition, buy a mostly intact de-milled Mg-42 on the internet and replace any remaining missing/inert parts. We can rebuild him, Bubba has the technology.
Those "BAR Mags" Were most likely FG42 Mag's
I thought FG42 mags are thicker than their the BAR's

These were used a lot by the Waffen SS.

k98100 Makes sense, since SS troops weren't issued standard military weapons and had to often use captured Czech weapons or commercial market guns.

Me and my friends found a British WW2 concrete bunker in Liverpool, England. It used to be an airfield, because you can still see where the runway once was, and also, there is a hangar or 2 with bullet holes coming through the sheet metal roof. If you want to know what I'm talking about, its on/near the Estuary in Speke, Liverpool.

Yes i do, but most of the dog tags that i have found are from dead soldiers.

Someone throw the MG42 down this wall probably 1945. Was it a a soldier from Allies destroying the German stuff or was it a German soldier after fighting has end. Was he sad that Germany now will probably end but still happy he had survided and the fighting is over to get back to the family?
I'd love to watch out of a time machine going back to the moment the MG42 gets thrown down the wall.
Probably dumped by retreating German soldiers in 1944, or allied soldiers dumped it after it killed a lot of their man.

The MG42 fires 7.92×57mm Mauser..
It shoots the same ammo as a normal mauser K98, that's 8mm Mauser.

I find a lot of explosives.. i'm always being really careful.
Some of them can still explode.. even from the first world war.
I good signal on the detector can be a nice gas mask canister.. or a bomb.

My grandfather managed to steal an mg 42 in the debris of a bunker after troops had destroyed it, it was in perfect condition with an ammobox near it both are in a case with little oxygen or moisture to avoid rust as it is now the airloom lmg from germany

When that MG42 fell back in after the magnets let go, I would have dived in and grabbed that thing. Never mind the potential danger of rust cuts, I'd still risk it for a piece of history.
This is fascinating! I have a huge interest in the Second World War and in particular, the planes of the time. My great grandfather served on a Motor Torpedo Boat in the British Navy during the war but like many, he didn't talk about it and sadly I was very young when he died. +k98100 Very cool! My grandfather has the war medals earned by my great grandfather but i'm not sure if we have any other items. Our family is quite well spread out around the UK so there could easily be more memorabilia down south which I haven't seen. Will have to ask my family about it!

You might try electrolysis on the MG42 once it thoroughly washed. Manual trickle charger, washing soda, water of course. Sacrificial anodes, make sure everything is hooked up right or it will eat the MG rather than the rust. It will buzz the rust right off.
