I would hands down buy a car from this guy or send a good friend or family member to him. Definitely the exception in this business. Gives me hope for humanity!
Here's the problem with ethical dealers. They spend extra to fix minor stuff to make the customer happy. Now, their used car costs more than the one across the street. Customer says his car is too expensive, and buys cheap un serviced car. Customer may or may not learn that you get what you pay for.
I had a Chevy Cruze. Over 200k. They do have problems, but it’s an easy diy car. I’ve replaced the intake manifold once, valve cover twice. Spark plugs, a water pump, timing belt. Honestly it’s been a cheap car to own.
I bought my 2013 Cruze a decade ago and I’m still super happy with it. The only issues I’ve had are a throttle body replacement around three years ago, and then an ignition coil pack replacement after the engine misfired just this past week (which I’ve learned is pretty common for Cruzes that have recently passed 100,000km, and mine is at ~120,000km). Other than that, it’s been amazing. Would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable vehicle.
My partner and I bought a 2011 Cruze from a dealership in 2020 only for fuel efficiency due to driving a bit for work. We had it serviced on every 10km and never had a single problem with it. We were also extremely surprised on how good it was on fuel only having to fill it right up once a week especially with all the driving we do, it was amazing saving us so much money.
Yeah man, mine's crazy driving from Iowa City to New Orleans. About a 960 mile trip each way. Mine's got a 16 gallon gas tank, so with the 40MPG highway mileage it'll go over 600 miles (640 miles if I ran it dry.). I can fire up Gasbuddy when I've stopped to use the bathroom or load up on coffee or food or whatever, and be like "Wow, there's some cheap gas in like 400 miles". So besides burning less fuel I end up saving at least 25% on fuel prices compared to if I just had to stop wherever every couple hundred miles to gas up.
A little late to the party but we’ve got a Chevy Sonic with the 1.8 4 cylinder. Decent little car but we’ve had to have its share of work done. Could be worse though. If you are looking for a car that sips fuel that you can likely get cheap is the newer model Ford Focus. I know folks will say how horrible the transmissions are, which some have had their issues. However after talking to the dealer a few years back, I found out the transmission in this is a manual transmission shifted by a computer called the tcm(transmission control module). We had to have some updates done to the transmission earlier in life and had to have the tcm replaced about 97k. Fast forward a few years later and the car now has 182,000 miles. Doesn’t seem to use any oil. Have been using high mileage semi synthetic since 70,000 miles or so. Getting about 35-36 mpg sometimes maybe a bit better which seems insane for an 11 year old car.
@@FooziesVideos I’m also a Cruze person. I bought mine new 2013 eco 1 4 turbocharged manual transmission. I have only had to replace the brakes and do the regular maintenance on it and it is a little beast of a car. So much fun to drive, better most of the other brands in same category. I can’t speak for any other model than 2013.
I had a truck put out in front of me. I was doing 55. Hit the brakes cranked the wheel to the right. Stopped in about 70 Feet. Ended up parallel to his trailer, only broke my mirror. Amazing handling. Never skidded a tire.
166K I had my piston rings replaced, crank polished, heads done, external pvc, new water pump, new turbo, aluminum thermostat, alu water outlet, alu oil filter cap and red aluminum valve cover. Heli-coiled several stripped screws. Red ignition coil pack and replaced the connector. Tons of mods. No check engine light. Just ordered plain projector headlights and 10” touch screen. I really like my Cruze.
my oil feed line started leaking at 88k miles, intake check valve and pcv went bad at just over 180k miles, replaced stock brake pads at 185k miles, and I replaced the worn out but working turbo at 190k miles. My 13 cruze eco still gets over 40mpg and has cost me very little in maintenance in almost 200k miles.
These were supposed to be the next big replacement for the Cobalt and sadly they got used as fleet vehicles. The good thing about that is they are dirt cheap and once you fix the common issues they have with the cooling system, they are actually very comfortable to drive. ZZP makes a lot of great aftermarket parts that were re-engineered to fix a lot of the problems first gens had and offer a decent amount of performance. So for $3k-$7k you can find one in acceptable condition, and another 5k-7k for performance upgrades and a tune gets you a fun daily driver with a nicer interior than any Honda from that era. Don't expect a race car, but they are snappy and smooth riding with surprisingly good MPG (Although not the 40 they were advertised as)
I bought a brand new 2014 Chevy Cruze with a 1.8 and a 6 speed manual. I have had O problems with it, with the exception of the winter of 2021-2022. the check engine came on when the temperature dipped to minus 35 C. I took it to the shop and they checked for codes. It turns out it was a timing issue. The car runs perfect and the shop said it is fine to drive. The light might go off by it self, and it did. It has not come on since including this winter of 2022. Fingers crossed! Clutch is still good, and this 6 speed is still a joy to drive.
I bought one of these in August. 2013 LT2 for $2200. The kid who sold it to me had paid to get the valve cover gasket replaced. He had problems sarting it up but said once it did it ran well. Although it had service power steering and electrical issues. Once I test drove it I offered him the 2200 and he took it. Turns out only thing wrong with it was a battery. It would only turn on with the door closed. Replaced the battery and no more issues. Been using it as a Turo car and its driven around 2k miles problem free. Already made back around $550. Im keeping an eye out for these issues you mentioned and crossing my fingers👍 should pay itself off soon and then bring in profits🤗🤗
I have one, 2012 1.8L NA Cruze LT hatchback w/ 75k miles on the clock, manual 6 speed trans. So far a very reliable car, really like It. Only minor problems, nothing expensive for repairs after 11 years of abuse. I dont plan to sell it any time soon. I do take care of all fluids and always use AcDelco Dexos engine oil. Mine is Flex Fuel and i only use ethanol.
I have owned a series of Chevy Cruzes. I have a 175 mile daily commute and need a comfortable economical vehicle for a fairly low price. Out of the seven I owned none of them have been problematic and they have all reached 200,000 miles with minimal issues. None of them have failed to start and none of them have left me stranded on the side of the road.
I agree! My 2014 Cruze has never given me any problems, and I drive it a lot in stop & go traffic! Even if something does break, I was told that the car was cheap and easy to fix since they sold these around the world under different brands.
Here in Australia we have these but they are marketed as Holden cruze and used car dealerships are flooded with them and they have a terrible reputation for unreliability with many issues and horror stories. the models made in Aus are slightly better but still are not good quality and cheaply made.
I own a 2012 Chevy Cruze purchased new. Best car I have ever owned and I owned an Elantra and Corrola prior to the Cruze. I have only 41,500 miles on the car so it drives like new with just routine maintenance. Very pleased with my Cruze.
My son bought one of those , I warned him not to , but he did lol , damn, was I ever wrong . His car rides nice ( all chevs do ) has fair amount of get up go . First front brake change at well over 200,000 km . Only thing that was wrong with the car was that it had the wrong radio , sticker said it had the auto volume radio and it didn't, Chev dealer replaced the radio with out much fuss . His ex has the car now, and it's still running trouble free . I highly recommend you check one out if you are looking for a good used vehicle. ( And I don't t even like Chevs ) lol
I'am your newest subscriber i just won a rustfree 2011 Chevy Cruze LS 6 speed manual 108k miles i won it at the auction in florida for onl;y 2750.00 i got the car fax and almost all the maintance was at the chevy dealership
I'm so impressed with your qualifications and those deep explanations. I'm planning to move to Canada (Alberta) and I have been planning to buy a Chevy Cruze. It's a real bummer you're on the other side of the country, otherwise I would come straight to your dealership. Thanks again, God bless you!
22:53 IMPORTANT I want to point this out. I found this out by happenstance. I too found it very annoying that the door lock buttons were in the middle but if you push down on the lock on the drivers door it will lock all the other doors and set the alarm. Once I found this out the center button never annoyed me.

I own the 2012 version 1.8 fuel version and it's been the most reliable car I've had in my life. 10 years and 120000km later, I've only taken it to the mechanic for periodic revisions (I changed the distribution system at 115000). It performs really good. This summer I went to northern Europe with it, and in the German autobahn it reaches 200km/h without strange sounds and being steady and smooth like butter... as I said, the best car I've ever had.
I bought my 2016 Cruze in April of 2018 with 21K miles and not a scratch on it. Only thing gone bad was the water pump at 49K miles and Chevy offered to pay for it out of warranty. Everytime I take it in for an oil change before I get down road after service I get a call from the dealership offering to buy it. He even stated since gas shot up my car is demand and would sell in a day or less in the condtion it's in. I like the car too much to sell it and really don't want an suv.
I have a 2013 Cruze RS 1.4 turbo, and despite having a few of the minor inconvenient but we’ll know. Issues of the Cruze, it’s been an amazingly reliable vehicle and I love it. I bought it brand new and have always taken good care of it, so it’s taken good care of me!
@@Shiznit304 mine was bought brand new and I’ve taken care of it. If you take care of your Cruze those things don’t happen. I’ve got over 175,000 miles on it and the turbo and the transmission work just fine.
@@billymasoner3735 I also had issues with the cooling system. Expansion tank cracked, the line that goes into the plastic water housing snapped, the water housing itself cracked. good thing i got rid of that and bought a 30 year old japanese car instead.
@@Shiznit304 I did have those problems myself. Those are cheap parts that are easy to replace, and pretty inconsequential over a ten-year ownership of the vehicle. I will always buy American cars first. I don’t have anything against foreign cars, I am just pro American vehicles.
You don't need to justify yourself. Your advise is appreciated and has already helped. I have just bought a Cruze 1.7 CDti LTZ in the UK, with 78,000 miles on the clock. Cost £4000 GBP (about $5995 USD at the moment). Love the car and the drive, the turbo certainly makes a difference. I moved up from a Chevrolet spark +
Thanks for the vid sir. I get the feeling that the folks that have big problems with these just treat them poorly, especially with the turbo motor. You have to, have to, have to routinely change the oil on any of these small turbo motors.. If you do, they are likely fine, if not, they reward you with issues at 60k...
I think because it’s more affordable than most cars that’s on any lot that has them and besides the fact that it’s small, it’s actually not a bad car to look at. Little to the customer’s knowledge, though, they will be paying a lot or equivalent to the price put down for coolant system repairs by the time they own the car. I’ve been a Chevy Cruze owner myself for 2 years now and I’ve spent about $1200 on the coolant system alone. Still having coolant problems.
@@cte3109 I know the pain and frustration. I was forced to get rid of it back in April. Sucks when all your hard earned money could be going elsewhere. Hope you no longer have to deal w the problems of a Chevy Cruze or at least long enough for you to actually enjoy driving the car
@@POPINTHETAPE told myself I’m never buying a Chevy vehicle again no matter what. Luckily I have enough saved up to either buy a car outright or make a huge down payment on one. It’s going to be a Toyota.
Great information even for me being in the car business for almost 50 years. Bought a new 2013 1.8 liter Cruze (sacred to death of turbos) for my daughter here in Markham, On. It only has 90,000 kms & have spent almost nothing as I do all the maintenance myself having just replaced the front brake pads a month ago.
Just an FYI - I have a 2018 Chevy Cruze and I've never had any problems with it. It is verey reliable and fuel efficient. I've got two dealerships that are hounding me all the time to trade it for one of their gas hogs. I think it is hilarious. It also made me suspect it was one of the top selling used cars, else that wouldn't be happening. THEY'LL NEVER GET MY CHEVY CRUZE - NO, NO, NO!!!
I got a 2018 lt rs. I was looking at a Honda fit and saw the cruze, the mpg, the lower price.... and it had a manual transmission! I didn't know they put manuals in these cars. I bought it and I love it. Just wish the seats had better lumbar lmao
You got the Gen 2... The Gen 1 Cruzes are god awful depending on your luck. Maintenance almost matters not. I have a 1.4T from 2012... I've spent twice as much changing and maintaining parts in the 4 years I've had it as I spent total on the thing... And I had to finance it (I know... I had a paid off car prior but got totalled in an accident and needed something, single dad with a young kid at the time)
I have a 2014 Buick Encore, which I think is practically identical to the Chevy Trax. However, the Encore, Trax and Cruze all have the same Ecotec 1.4L engine. It’s good on gas consumption, just stay on top of your cooling system, check fluids regularly. And, do what you can to check and make sure that you’re catalytic converter is good, and you should be able to make it last. You can get cat converter cleaner at pretty much any auto parts store. Just pour it in the gas tank and driver around a bit to get it going through the system, and it will help to keep the cat converter from getting clogged.
Great video. Wow you covered all the problems on the 1.4 turbo. At the end of the day the parts are cheap to repair on the Cruze if you can do it yourself. We have 2 Chevy Cruze and love them. Cheers
Actually, I really like having the door lock in the center on my Cruze (2014) simply because it's definitely more convenient when unlocking the door. I don't have to reach and search to my left to unlock the door. I love driving the car in the snow as it handles beautifully with the traction control.
I’m a mechanic and I love these cars I work on one of these at least 3 or more a week the check engine light is notorious for coming on but it’s always around $1000 to fix so not very expensive mostly cooling issues and lean condition codes stay away from the turbo version GM turbos go out a lot n it’s $4k repair
Thanks for the video I just bought a 2013 and it's in pretty good shape but it does have some cosmetic issues and this helps me have an idea what else to look for
I had a '11 Cruze ECO 6-spd man. Got 42 MPG with EVERY tank. The 1.4T had way adequate power. Had zero problems with it. Wished it was the hatchback. Great car.
@@rand49er I believe you 100% Mine ran great up until 100k miles. Now it is has some not so easy to diagnose problems, and it is difficult finding a rocket scientist to work on it.
The cruze has a really good ride. It's quiet, smooth for a small car. And pretty comfortable. But heck that 1.4 sucks. Cooling system issues has been the pain in my side with this car.
And I have to say I disagree. I have a 13 that I bought new, so I’ve always taken excellent care of it. As such, I’ve never had a single issue outside of the brittle plastic coolant parts cracking. But as soon as they did I replaced them and never ever had an issue. The people who have issues either don’t take care of them, don’t check their fluids, or bought the car from someone else who didn’t.
@@billymasoner3735 it's just that my 07 Vibe with twice the milage and 6 years older requires less maintenance than my 2011 Cruze. I just think Chevrolet dropped the ball with these quick connect plastic shitty parts. Just put a rubber hose gawd dahm.
@@sebastiencharette6637 once something cracks, probably the thermostat housing, replace all the fittings and lines and it should be good, lots of aftermarket updated fixes for these
Also, the trunk switches are known to corrode behind the chrome bar and go bad, so that unit needs to be replaced (comes with the said switch and new tag lamp units. The tag lamp unit screws are known for corroding, so if you need to change a bulb there, you may have a problem getting the screws out, as they strip, corrode and rot away.).
Oh yeah, I replaced those bulbs, after Coralville's finest gave me a warning for having 1 bulb out. Those screw were rusty as all hell. I don't know if they got some crazy electrolysis going on (like the ground runs entirely through the screws or something) or they just made them out of pot metal, but really.
On my daughter's '12 Cruze, the airbox screws were corroded and rusted, as well as the mass air flow sensor screws. I had to drill them out and replace them with better ones.
I had to replace mine too because water gets inside the trunk switch/plate light and shorts it. I replaced it and sealed it with silicone and there’s still a leak somewhere. Rainwater filled where the spare tire sits and completely rusted the jack before I found it
Great video. Something for the wrench-turners AND something for the casual car fans. Known you for over 10 years and your speaking style in your videos is much the same as your everyday dialogue. You are gifted to inform, and as a customer of yours I always feel I know exactly what I bought when I leave your lot. (5 vehicles in our family!) if you feel to throw in an a story about a Cruze customer experience as someone suggested, that would be sweet too. Appreciate you bro!
My 2014 Chevy Cruise Diesel has 114k miles on it and it has had no mechanical failures at all at this point..the only issues have been emission sensors and a low quialty Def fluid messages with the diesel variant...not that hard to fix if your handy, but overall the car is very well built and drives pretty nice. The fuel mileage with diesel is high 40's into the 50's with highway driving with 100ftlbs more torque than the Cruise gasoline variant...the diesel engine gives a pretty nice driving experience with all the torque it has.
Nice. I also have a 2014 Cruze with the diesel, 160k miles on it right now bought it at 102k miles really haven't had too many issues a couple expensive ones though. Well one problem wasn't the cars fault, mice got in and chewed up vacuum lines, $600 or so to fix, stupid mouse. AC system broke on me, could've been mine fault because I tried to re-fill it with the stuff in a can and that really broke it. So that was like $3,500 or something stupid. The only other issue was the emissions systems but I have no emission checks where I live so I just fully deleted it took out DPF filter blocked off EGR full tune removed the DPF tank in the trunk now it works great again. That was like $1,900 in parts did it myself though for legality reasons. But really AC and Emissions we're gonna be the 2 biggest things with any older used car so I've already done all that hopefully the transmission holds out and the turbo keeps spinning aside from that I don't see what else could really go wrong maybe some oil leaks but that's easy enough usually.
@dedalliance1 Ive seen the tunes and delete kits a few years ago but I didn't think you could still buy a tune and a delete kit at this point with the EPA coming down on companys offering that...where can I buy that?
I absolutely loved my Cruze LTZ. 278,000 km with very small issues (those plastic coolant parts are a pain). Always felt solid on bad roads and was very comfortable.
Oh yeah, apparently the Opel vehicle they based it on, they took one to the GM "Detroit Test Track" (which is crazy, rather than just resembling some rough Detroit roads, they actually laser scanned some roads and made exact replicas of every bump and pothole. Yeah.) They found the "tight German suspension" was severely lacking on that type of road and the back jumped around like crazy on potholes, so the Cruze has a totally reworked suspension specifically so you can whip it around a curve with giant potholes, speedbumps, etc. and everything will stay planted. After recently driving through Memphis and spending some days in New Orleans, I surely appreciated the suspension on my 2013 model!
I have a 14 Cruze bought it with 14k miles. Only problem I had with it was the negative batter terminal was bad from the factory there was a recall. Would lose power to my radio , lights sometimes even the steering would lock up on me and I’d have to turn off the car in the middle of the street. Only happened once thankfully. After replacing the negative battery terminal which I didn’t have to pay for I’ve never had a problem other than parking in the city and people hitting my car while parked at work and running off.. feel like it has a target on it lol
Great video. Thx. Daughter's 2011 cruze with the 1.8L had the pcv issue happen around 110Km. Fooled me as to where the noise was coming from. Was surprised that the pcv is built into the valve cover. Expensive maintenance design.
This was 2 years ago but... if you are a professor type and that's who you are, that's okay man. Its part of you and you shouldnt be ashamed of that! if people dont like that F em! Thank you so much for the video.
i got my '11 cruze about 6 years ago @52k miles. for the past 4 years, i've had major repairs done over and over and over. the transmission needed to be rebuilt twice, the intake manifold along with minor related things (like non-return valve) needed to be replaced, the catalytic converter and turbo went out (turbo is connected with exhaust manifold too, so it's expensive). also the plastic gear that controls what direction the ac/heat goes through broke, so now air just comes half-ass out of every output. the thermostat housing went haywire (it was then replaced), and honestly i'm pretty sure the thermostat itself is also bad with how it's acting but it didn't throw a code. a tire pressure sensor went out so it reports 0 air, the list just goes on and on
Is your cruze an automatic? I've had similar problems with mine and its 6 spd manual. I replaced the slave cylinder, then the slave cylinder and transmission. Intake manifold and valve cover, thermostat, and coil pack. I got super lucky and it was all done under warranty. I'm almost afraid to drive the thing now.
I'm buying a 2015 Cruze.Tomorrow is the test drive on the highway before making the decision. I love these.I see so many of them on the road.Did this car have a remote start??? I love the touch screen, rear camera on them.I'm very excited.
AH TWEETING! That's a good way to explain the noise. My 2011 had the same tweeting issue that you explained, and yet when I asked the guys at the dealership what happened they used too much technical jargon. I'm glad I found this video.
My wife and I both have cruzes. Mine is a 2017 hatchback, and my wife has the 2015 lt. We have had nothing but problems with her car. Leaks, Coolant, electrical, ac, etc. My catalytic converter clogged around 50,000 but was covered by warranty. Will most likely look into older cars when it comes time to move on. Not a big fan of newer electronics in vehicles.
I love my Chevy Cruze LTZ. She's in the shop right now getting a new turbo and a catalytic converter, as well as PVC valve, etc. I hope those fix the issue with my car. There's 127,000 miles on it so I've had it awhile and it's been a great car so far.
i love this video, giving me car advise like a dad 😂 I’m thinking of financing a LTZ fully loaded model but the rumors of the issues always drive me away
I love my Chevy Cruze 2012 1.4 LT i got it with 6 miles on it and i am at 143k as of this morning besides the dealership replacing 6 valve covers and then me replacing another 3 myself i ended up doing a mod i found on the Cruze forums besides those issues (in the 90-110k mile range) i have not had any issues. I average about 31.9mpg and unless Ford decides to build my Maverick i refuse to replace it.
My home is adjacent to a busy traffic road. Over 16 years here I have seen many vehicle breakdowns. Of those, at least 6 out of every 10 need a tow is the Cruze, closely followed by its 'big brother,' the Captiva. Bad.
My 2011 has 152,000km. Water pump and coils at 9 years. A bit of a hit but my only hit. 1.8 letre STD which i think is a good choice as a car ages. I've always operated on the kiss principal , good mileage. Mine maybe tough to trade in as who buys a STD but me? 😭🇨🇦
I had a Cruz she had me walking twice kept running Hot had only 50,000 first major coolant leak. Who knows I could have had a dud. I loved and only drove Cheys until after that car it was my last one.
I have a 2012 2lt I bought it 2 years ago I always wanted to buy 1 but heard alot bad comments on cruze and I decided tu buy 1 i love my chevy cruze I can't believe how fast is this car for a 1.4 motor i love more this car than my chevy silverado and I'm doing some modifications another thing I love about chevy is the onstar service lol
Thanks for being a part of it! I’ve not had much experience with the Verano at all. Only sold a couple over the years. No troubles with them, just no many coming through the auctions. Maybe that tells you something!
22:30 As some pops locks all the time (I work in a rental lot) that was actually a brilliant move to slow down car theft. I hate it, which means car thieves hate it as well.
the Cruze is the perfect car for the amateur mechanic. Parts are cheap and if you don't mind wrenching yourself, you can have a cheap car that will run forever, provided you make the necessary repairs over the years. Timing belt, water pump, valve cover, thermostat housing, etc, etc... And the reason the turbos fail is because the oil feed pipe that goes to it gets gummed up and blocks. Replacing that little pipe every couple years will save those turbos from blowing up. I think that little pipe costs less than $30 and takes less than an hour to swap out. They installed that pipe right under the exhaust manifold, so it just bakes that pipe along with the oil flowing through it. Eventually the baked oil blocks it up and the turbo runs dry. Ka-boom!
The bad engineering that leads to those failures. Those failed turbos blow crap into the motor. Good car for a mechanic who doesn't mind buying a new $4k motor.
I totaled my duramax. And in this market it’s hard to find a decent used truck. I bought a Chevy cruze and I love this thing unless it blows up right after this comment lol.
2014 cruze lt 1.4T MT 155k miles OG owner. First off I take meticulous care of my cars. Issues, Rear shocks 2x times, crank shaft seal, Value Cover 2x times, Plugs, Coil Pack, Hood Latch, Horn. Brakes 4x weird wear tbh. Wiring harness to radiator fan. Main cover seal. Oil Cooler. Turbo Oil feed tube. Other then the fact that these cars tend to leak oil even have a main cover seal replacement overall I can't complain. I did most of the above repairs myself and parts for this car are pretty cheap. MT has been really good swapped to Amsoil Synco Mesh 5-30 MT every 50K miles no issues with gears or engine itself. I live in Iowa wax few times a year claybar after every winter and I have zero rust on the paint. These cars can not take being abused if you treat it well over all seems to be a really good car overall IMO.

2012 I bought a brand new Cruze LT. I had no major issues so far, so I guess I can consider myself lucky :) My Cruze was manufactured in South Korea, 1.6 124HP manual transmission, maybe the US made Cruze do have more problems...
Typically it's the cruzes with the 1.4L turbo that has these issues. The 1.8L in the LS models do not have most of these issues.

Bought a new one in 2014 and have replaced most things you mentioned. 193k and going gd she a keeper ! If your handy great car if your not you may want to stay away .
I love my Cruze! I know absolutely nothing about cars (lol sorry) so that statement isn't a good voucher for the car as a whole. I will say though I got it new in 2014 (non-turbo, most basic model), only put 37,000 miles on it, and I've never had any serious issues with it! I've had very short commutes in these 8 years (10-15 mins one way), but it did get me through some pretty hefty snow storms when I was in college. Probably not the most bang for your buck but she's a good car.
First, y don't see either on the side of the road. They got the Elantra right early on, and other than excellent enhancements to the styling have left it alone. The Chevy 1.8 is a stellar engine, if proper maintenance is applied. These are not race cars, so don't drive them that way and problems will be few.
I’m trying to by my first car. I’m turning 18, and have a specific budget, this car is within it. Would you say as a first car for a student, is this worth it?
Hmm. Before I retired, at least one of my associates called me "the professor". I took it as a compliment. After hearing you in this video, now I'm not so sure!
@@OldeCarrGuy Because you sort of emphasized at the beginning you were going to try not lecturing, and just be you. Those sell so much because as soon as someone buys them they turn it right back in. There is a reason they don’t hold on to them. As a mechanic the NUMBER ONE car that BLEEDS money into my pocket is the Chevy Cruze. I contemplate suicide quite often.

Hey man, hopefully you get this.. im looking at getting a chevy cruze 2016 with 174,000 k for 10k with an additional 3 k warrantee for my motor with no limit on my km for 3 years. is this good ? its certified. your video is very helpful and i have alot more to look at before taking it this week. your advice would be truly helpful! thank you
That’s a lot of mo net for the mileage! And the warranty likely won’t cover the petty issues I mentioned in the video, maybe the turbo and engine internals. That’s what warranty companies usually cover! It’s the petty stuff that will annoy you!
These cars don't have turbo issues. They have lack of maintenance from the owner issues especially on the second owners. All turbos need oil and have it and the filter changes regularly with the approved oil. As a cheap car, they tend to get less and less attention to maintenance. This holds true for any turbo car.
Either the rules for selling cars are different in Canada or you take real pride in your work. In the U.S. your lucky if the detail the car.
How you sell a car is less about rules and more about ethics. We do take pride in what we do. Thanks for noticing!
I wish All of Canada was like him, My area (Toronto) needs a guy like him working here 👍
I was thinking the same thing! If you sold any cars in the us I'd buy from you without a doubt
Lmao I bought a Cruze and after 2 weeks and $500 in repairs I sold it quick and bought a Camry that was 11 years older and have had no issues
They definitely are fuel sippers!
The suspension on the cruze is phenomenal
Where the heck do you get all that done? I would love to replace many of those key parts with aluminum. Especially those plastic cooling system parts.

Thanks for being truthful. Cheryl. Cruz is the worst car ever made. Period!
Mine has 128,000 and doing great.
my oil feed line started leaking at 88k miles, intake check valve and pcv went bad at just over 180k miles, replaced stock brake pads at 185k miles, and I replaced the worn out but working turbo at 190k miles. My 13 cruze eco still gets over 40mpg and has cost me very little in maintenance in almost 200k miles.
@@khajask8113 Stick with the 1.8L engine. 1.4L with the turbo , gets complicated after 100k miles.
I’m a new teen driver and I have my eye on a used Cruze listing. This video has been a huge help in knowing what to expect!
Lol almost everything you mentioned under the hood has gone wrong with my car😂. But it’s never left me stranded. I do enjoy driving it😁
Imagine that!
I enjoy driving mine too. Corners well and absorbs bumps well.
\Nice
use a thinner oil in the winter
How many miles do you have on this Cruze?
It's great that you and the Misses are working together. I've always like these Cruzes as well. Thanks for the tips.
None of them have failed to start and none of them have left me stranded on the side of the road.
suffice it to say my car spent a lot of time at the dealer during my extended warranty period.
Why is my 2014 Chevy cruze saying service soon on tracking device readout. ?
Can I just turn tracking device off with button is on the Co sole??

In my experience, its decently fun with the right specs and a harmless car to give a teenager.

I've got a 2014 Cruze [2.0TD] and it is reliable. No problems at all, but it is low mileage, 74,000 miles.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the vid sir. I get the feeling that the folks that have big problems with these just treat them poorly, especially with the turbo motor. You have to, have to, have to routinely change the oil on any of these small turbo motors.. If you do, they are likely fine, if not, they reward you with issues at 60k...
Changing oil really is so simple and cheap yet few feel it’s necessary! If it drives it’s fine!!!! Until it’s not!!!
These cars are 🗑️ notorious for transmission issues
I think because it’s more affordable than most cars that’s on any lot that has them and besides the fact that it’s small, it’s actually not a bad car to look at. Little to the customer’s knowledge, though, they will be paying a lot or equivalent to the price put down for coolant system repairs by the time they own the car.
I’ve been a Chevy Cruze owner myself for 2 years now and I’ve spent about $1200 on the coolant system alone. Still having coolant problems.
Same here. Poured 1800 on the coolant ALONE and I’m still having issues. I hate this car 😢
@@cte3109 I know the pain and frustration. I was forced to get rid of it back in April. Sucks when all your hard earned money could be going elsewhere. Hope you no longer have to deal w the problems of a Chevy Cruze or at least long enough for you to actually enjoy driving the car

1.8 are way better than the turbo engines by far! Good luck!
I have this one, 1st generation, this is amazing car, with tesla style audio like a spaceship inside.

I have had a local chevy dealer begging me to sell my Cruze for years.

How much you paid for it did you like it
Great job enjoy your videos love my 2011 Chevy Cruze 230,000 MI all trouble free been amazing little car since I purchased it new
That is awesome!
If my car is telling me I must service. Can I turn it off and continue driving?
And will I get stuck with a stalled engine.?

Great comment. That's really nice of you.
After replacing the negative battery terminal which I didn’t have to pay for I’ve never had a problem other than parking in the city and people hitting my car while parked at work and running off.. feel like it has a target on it lol

i got my '11 cruze about 6 years ago @52k miles. for the past 4 years, i've had major repairs done over and over and over. the transmission needed to be rebuilt twice, the intake manifold along with minor related things (like non-return valve) needed to be replaced, the catalytic converter and turbo went out (turbo is connected with exhaust manifold too, so it's expensive). also the plastic gear that controls what direction the ac/heat goes through broke, so now air just comes half-ass out of every output. the thermostat housing went haywire (it was then replaced), and honestly i'm pretty sure the thermostat itself is also bad with how it's acting but it didn't throw a code. a tire pressure sensor went out so it reports 0 air, the list just goes on and on
Is your cruze an automatic? I've had similar problems with mine and its 6 spd manual. I replaced the slave cylinder, then the slave cylinder and transmission. Intake manifold and valve cover, thermostat, and coil pack. I got super lucky and it was all done under warranty. I'm almost afraid to drive the thing now.

I don't blame you! Thats why I drive Grand Marquis and Town Cars! Simple to work on and super reliable.
@@OldeCarrGuy i have an 07 toyota yaris with 300 k on it. runs like a clock, leaves cruzes in the dust!
I love my Chevy Cruze LTZ. She's in the shop right now getting a new turbo and a catalytic converter, as well as PVC valve, etc. I hope those fix the issue with my car. There's 127,000 miles on it so I've had it awhile and it's been a great car so far.
Right on
Google Chevy Cruze fix kit 3.0..install is simple and easy..UA-cam tutorial is also up..did it to my Cruze and have been good since...
Just an fyi it is pcv not pvc
did you ever get this car fixed @SayItLoud

PCP?
i love this video, giving me car advise like a dad 😂 I’m thinking of financing a LTZ fully loaded model but the rumors of the issues always drive me away
Best of luck!
Do not get this car. I promise it’s not worth the headache
Hey what's the tweak
My home is adjacent to a busy traffic road.
Over 16 years here I have seen many vehicle breakdowns.
Of those, at least 6 out of every 10 need a tow is the Cruze, closely followed by its 'big brother,' the Captiva.
Bad.
My 2011 has 152,000km. Water pump and coils at 9 years. A bit of a hit but my only hit. 1.8 letre STD which i think is a good choice as a car ages. I've always operated on the kiss principal , good mileage. Mine maybe tough to trade in as who buys a STD but me? 😭🇨🇦
I had a Cruz she had me walking twice kept running
Hot had only
50,000 first major coolant leak. Who knows I could have had a dud. I loved and only drove Cheys until after that car it was my last one.
I have a 2012 2lt I bought it 2 years ago I always wanted to buy 1 but heard alot bad comments on cruze and I decided tu buy 1 i love my chevy cruze I can't believe how fast is this car for a 1.4 motor i love more this car than my chevy silverado and I'm doing some modifications another thing I love about chevy is the onstar service lol
just stumbled across your Channel and I definitely enjoyed it. I would like to know what your opinion is on the 2016 Buick Verano premium 2 L Turbo ?
Thanks for being a part of it! I’ve not had much experience with the Verano at all. Only sold a couple over the years. No troubles with them, just no many coming through the auctions. Maybe that tells you something!
Lots of helpful hints for Cruze owners.
Definitely
GREAT VIDEIO MAN ...good information
Appreciate it!
22:30 As some pops locks all the time (I work in a rental lot) that was actually a brilliant move to slow down car theft. I hate it, which means car thieves hate it as well.
Love my 2018 hatchback. I regularly get 40+ MPG
Recently drafted a tractor trailer on a 2 1/2 trip on the Interstate. averaged 58.7 mpg. At 70mph.
the Cruze is the perfect car for the amateur mechanic.
I changed my turbo feed line at 90k miles. There was absolutely no obstruction in it. Guess I was lucky.
I totaled my duramax. And in this market it’s hard to find a decent used truck. I bought a Chevy cruze and I love this thing unless it blows up right after this comment lol.
Love this!! The tweeting valve cover! Been there
I remember when you could lease one of these for $100/month CAD. It was around 2013 I think
These cars can not take being abused if you treat it well over all seems to be a really good car overall IMO.
its hard being a lone wolf, the struggle is real . those that shit on your content , dont have the balls to make content . there is nothing wrong with presenting your best self ,i never taken you to be unauthentic. that being said you would have done well in radio djOCG
I hear ya Shawn.
2012 I bought a brand new Cruze LT. I had no major issues so far, so I guess I can consider myself lucky :)
My Cruze was manufactured in South Korea, 1.6 124HP manual transmission, maybe the US made Cruze do have more problems...
Typically it's the cruzes with the 1.4L turbo that has these issues. The 1.8L in the LS models do not have most of these issues.
I have the 1.8 gasoline version automatic ... 120000km and not a single glitch... nothing broken, be it motor or interior... it's been a really good car for me after 10 years and still rolling with no problems.
3 minutes in, I already like your style!
Thank you sir!
I bought a Cruze 2 months ago. The garbage already needs an O2 sensor and a Mass Air Flow sensor.
I have a gen 2 cruze it makes about 300 hp but i plan on pushing it to 500 in the next year
I have the 2014 ls 1.8 and outside of the thermostat housing and batteries. I haven’t had any real issues with it.
Bought a new one in 2014 and have replaced most things you mentioned.
193k and going gd she a keeper !
If your handy great car if your not you may want to stay away .
the audio volume is too low in Canada to make it to the U.S.
Thanks for sharing. The Non-turbo cars didn't experience most of these issues I mentioned here.
First, y don't see either on the side of the road. They got the Elantra right early on, and other than excellent enhancements to the styling have left it alone. The Chevy 1.8 is a stellar engine, if proper maintenance is applied. These are not race cars, so don't drive them that way and problems will be few.
Dang man sorry I missed the premier! Was really interesting to see looking over a trade from a dealer perspective though. Thanks!
I’m trying to by my first car. I’m turning 18, and have a specific budget, this car is within it. Would you say as a first car for a student, is this worth it?
They are decent cars for the money! Just be aware of the potential issues at higher mileage!
Hmm. Before I retired, at least one of my associates called me "the professor". I took it as a compliment. After hearing you in this video, now I'm not so sure!
Why did you say that?
@@OldeCarrGuy Because you sort of emphasized at the beginning you were going to try not lecturing, and just be you. Sounded like you thought of the comments calling you a professor were sort of derogatory.
Edit/add: I do recall a business trip visiting a number of customers throughout Louisiana, driving in a rented Chevy Cruze, and thinking it was a pretty pleasant small to mid size car.
I TRULY APPRECIATE YOU SCHOOLING US I AM BUYING A WHITE ONE TOMORROW LS 145K MILES
Loved this vid. Looking at a Cruze for my son
Great video professor.
Thanks
get my 2017 used Cruz friday
Those sell so much because as soon as someone buys them they turn it right back in. There is a reason they don’t hold on to them. As a mechanic the NUMBER ONE car that BLEEDS money into my pocket is the Chevy Cruze. I contemplate suicide quite often.
I’m sorry you’re feeling that way. Reach out on social media if you need to talk!
I am a dealer in Australia and here they are Holden Cruzes and I will not have another on my lot they are crap , my yard is small 17 to 20 cars in total funny here in Australia Hyundai is a good car and sell well best selling car for us here is a Ford BA falcon in its different models
2023 price - 9895.. Shopping for a car down here in Kansas City, and I wish I could find a dealer that is as decent as you.
I appreciate that! I currently have a 2013 Cruze LT with 72k miles for $8800 canadian (approx $6700 usd).
@@OldeCarrGuy saw that. Best deals I can find around here are 2017-2019 sentras, elantras and the like for around 12 to 15k usd with 90k+ miles.
@@vorexis sadly a sign of the times! Stay away from Sentra with CVT transmission. They’re ticking time bombs!
@@OldeCarrGuy yep. Had an altima with the CVT and loved the car, but the trans died. It was after I sold it so I got lucky, but it could have gone out on me. Wish they'd do auto trans because I love Nissans.
I Have the 14 LT Hot Red 4 door , These are Nice Cars :) QC
I really want one of these 1st gens, but I've read and seen countless problems with the 1.4t with the turbos! So I'm scared to buy one!
These cars don't have turbo issues. They have lack of maintenance from the owner issues especially on the second owners. All turbos need oil and have it and the filter changes regularly with the approved oil. As a cheap car, they tend to get less and less attention to maintenance. This holds true for any turbo car.
I like my 1.8 non turbo and will never buy any turbo🤗
