I’m with you Mr. Hildreth. 42 years ago I was a genuine badass. I was an operator, not really special but good at my job. But injuries during the service and subsequent bouts of several autoimmune conditions have me at a serious disadvantage. My inner wild child still remembers some of my most effective moves, shoots an expert revolver and was a designated marksman. That’s who I was 42 years ago. Not anymore. I served hard, played hard, worked hard for the entire time and I have been a professional medical patient for that long as well. The doctors have repeatedly told me that I wore my body out. I feel it. Don’t mess with me or mine within cane range though, lol! I can still whoop a mean hurt bump!

Sometimes all it takes is to show them that their behavior is going to start a fight and that they are extremely outnumbered.

Stay true to yourself and keep doing what you feel is right. It's all you can do. No one is crazy for taking on the responsibilities you describe, even if it feels like it's driving you crazy at times to keep true to those responsibilities. You're still only human. Also keep in mind that the "world around you" is much more than you can perceive online or within limited social interactions. Maybe I'm self-contradicting here because I'm making a UA-cam comment, but you can't take that kind of feedback as being the "normal" kind of social feedback we humans are used to in any regular sense.

A few pointers I would give to young men in this age: Remember, you are his father...NOT his friend! Don't stick screens in front of him, read to him, guide him, talk to him, and listen to him when the time comes he can talk. Its the hardest job in the world and it never stops but if you follow some basic tenants you can give society a strong man and contributor! Lastly, if you aren't willing to raise your son and parent him, the state and system are ready and willing to indoctrinate him free of charge! Some scary shit out there so be present and always alert to what he is exposed to outside of the home. Congrats on becoming a Dad! It's the greatest!

@@muriloninja totally agree. Only a year in myself. Don't break, bend, or even flex to figures of "authority" ' doctors for example. They say "you must do x,y,z." You must do you best as a parent and that has nothing to do with their wants. Educate yourself on everything your child may go through and guide them down what YOU believe is the best path. To follow the previous example: maybe you have a doc you trust, maybe you don't. Assume you don't. Make them earn it. Some things you don't get a second chance on. Stand strong on your beliefs, do the best you can, and you'll be fine.
Congrats on being a dad. It's a life changer that despite being hard, you'll never regret.

You will know a love like no other. I agree with what others have said here. Remember love is not always rainbows and unicorn poop. Try to be the same for your child in good times and bad. When the time comes, walk the line between letting them spread their wings and making mistakes that can change their lives and yours forever. Instill values early and watch them become an individual. God bless and congratulations.

My dad had already seen the man run out of the store with the two other guys chasing him, tackling him to the ground. My dad said, "It's ok. Looks like they have it under control." You nailed it John! Hated but wanted. That is EXACTLY true. My wife and I were coming into the city, post my Army retirement, from the ranch. We happened upon an accident. Single car, side of the road, it had rolled several times. Cause? Unknown. People had stopped. Nobody was "doing" a damn thing. Nobody was in charge. LEOs or Paramedics, not on scene. Rural location, that would come but it takes a while to get there. My wife and I went to work. I assessed, two people, seat belted in, car was upright, both conscious. Long story short, We got them out, had my aid bag in the truck, treated them within my capabilities. The wife had spoken to 911 with exacting detail on location, situation, outstanding report. Interfaced with paramedics and LEOs. Nobody died. The lollygaggers / spectators / do nothing NPCs? These would be the same people giving me crap for not wearing a mask in the grocery store. They are quick to condemn, but retardedly slow to respond or assist in time of need. They have ZERO leadership ability and only have hiveminds and take all commands from the queen.
An old 1SG said once, if you take charge, be in charge. I learned over the years just how much wisdom was packed into that simple statement.
God bless you John, and all the Patriots here. Tough times are coming, and we need all of you to remain vigilant, safe, and trained.
