To load the blade.....slide the slide handle on top of the knife all the way to the front towards the blade end. This causes the black button on the left side to pop out. Now push in that black button as you insert a blade. You can get the blade to lock in two different positions so the blade sticks farther out or farther into the knife.
Unbelievable that the package didn't provide any instructions! The trick is to move the slider all the way up and then insert the blade all the way in - until it forms that perfect triangle with the tip of the handle. It SHOULD be obvious but it is NOT. I tried various combinations but didn't get it quite right - so thank you!
I have been using these knives for quite some time now and it amazes me how many people complain that it does not work correctly. Some say it takes an hour to get out of package. Think these people may not want to use a razor knife if they can't get it out of packing or can't get the blades in. Wow, can they wipe their own butt??
LOL man I don’t understand it. I inherited some tools from my father after he passed away and I found 3 of these blades in his set. He was a master carpenter and the head of the carpentry department at the Art Center in my town and he appreciated a nice tool for sure. I was able to figure this knife out quickly without any manual, video, etc. believe me I’m NO expert but it is SO MUCH BETTER than those shitty ass single screw basic ass blades. Mine has been used and still I can just hold the knife blade down press the little button and the blade drops right out and on the newer models you can slide a new blade in and it auto locks no need to press anything. Also has a nice quick access storage for blades and a handy seat belt cutter type thing on the bottom side in front of your fingers. Great great tool 👍🏻

This thing didn't even last more than one cut, then the blade jammed inside of the knife. I removed the screws and had to play with it for a while to determine that the way to open the housing after removing the screws was to pull down on the lower yellow grip (with DeWalt imprinted on the sides). I was to get it working, but it's only a matter of time. This knife is a disappointment.
Feels great in the hand, but, the DWHT10046 is the WORST utility knife I have ever had. That blade change mechanism does not work as shown. Google it and you will see thousands of post of people giving up that tossing this junk out, it is that frustrating. A 3/32 hex bit is the only way to change this blade. The basic single flat head screw type of knife is MUCH better than this junk.
