The OTT cute for petite and sweet anime girls can feel really unrealistic but because the Japanese fades into the background when I watch with subtitles, it's easier to enter the "suspension of disbelief" state. Just a smidge embarrassing to have my older roomies overhear lol
Yeah but i feel like the english voices almost never fit the characters like a cute bubbly character with a scruffy, husky, deep voice or a scary dude with a high pitched voiced. Then they either have too much emotion and it sounds awkward or they have no emotion at all. They also pronounce the names badly like at least use the english version of the name or try to pronounce it nicely. There are some good english anime voice actors but its pretty rare and even then they usually are voicing a character which doesnt fit their voice and vibe.
I mean, if the person is trying to play a loli character and they’re a male in their mid 30s that doesn’t sing (except in the shower at home alone), then that therapist would be very wrong. Although, otherwise: Anime Voice Acting be like: I’m about to end this Therapist’s whole career.
