      I'm 62. I've never been to Japan ($$$$$ I thought) but the more of Solo Solo's videos I watch, the more I think I should go, especially now that he's shown us the capsule hotels and how clean and quiet they are. That makes accomodations affordable enough I could go, and spend a week taking train and ferry rides. Never say never! 🥰

    I lived in Japan for a year back in the ‘80s. The trains were very good then and always, always right on time. If the departure time was 8.30 then exactly on 8.30 the train would depart. Thank you for your videos, they take me back to happy memories of living in Japan.

    It was almost scary how clean everything was in Japan when I visited for the second time back in 2019. I took a taxi twice with my Japanese uncle from the train station and both times the driver did a quick run with a lint roller over the seats and carpet before we got in. It was insane how dedicated everyone was to cleanliness even just walking down the street.

    • @marcz6838

      I know right! It's cause they care about their surroundings and respect the things that have been provided for them and as such are willing to pay someone to look after and clean things although i imaging that a street cleaner in Tokyo has a far easier job than one in say London.
      On that note I actually witnessed someone in London come out of a restaurant to empty their bin as the street cleaner was clearing up rubbish in the alley. They just tipped their small bin into the larger outdoor bin spilling rubbish on the floor as they did. They just left it and walked back inside!!!

    I appreciate the humor, how down to Earth you are. Also, thank you for showing the disability friendly seats and restroom, that means a lot to me. I have extensive chronic health conditions and an “invisible” disability, and while most days I can function like any other human, some days I need mobility assistance tools like a cane and braces. I’ve wanted to travel to Japan since I was a kid, but as an adult I constantly worry about if I would be able to find the accommodation I need. Even the few second clips reassure me that Japan is much kinder than the US about it. Thank you!

    • @mrmaniac3
      @mrmaniac3 2 роки тому +20

      Japan offers quite a lot more than the US in the case of disability. I wish we had more accessible bathrooms, toilets and showers. The bidet feature, and sitting showers seem like such an obvious thing to put into a bathroom, but are totally absent unless you specifically seek out such features. Basic toilets and standing showers with no handhold bars or soap shelves seems to be the norm.

      They work on a well known concept: When the journey time is under a certain amount between to cities, the time you save by using the fast train is often not worth it, when the other train can give you a better or similar comfort for the same price (or cheaper). For example: I would never use a fast train between Hamburg and Kiel or Munich and Salzburg. The time you save would also only be about 10-15 minutes and the comfort of modern regional trains is high enough to accept a 1-2h journey in them. From Salzburg to Vienna you also often not use the "Railjet" but the rival "Westbahn" because the travel time is nearly the same but the Westbahn is cheaper.
      Of course when you on the other hand want to go from Nagoya to Tokyo, using the Chuo line limited express trains is not an option - it would take 6h, instead of 2 with the Shinkansen. Also the same when you would use local trains on the Tokaido line. But in the case of Kintetsu railway it works - and that mostly because JNR when they decided on how to get from Nagoya to Osaka used the Gifu - Maibara - Kyoto corridor instead of the Nara one, which the Hinotori is using - the distance via Maibara is longer. (I of course understand, why the JNR in the 1960s decided to connect Kyoto too on the Shinkansen, as it's a major tourist hotspot)

    Bruhhhh I am so incredibly jealous that THIS is what is offered in Japan
    I occasionally have to take a train between cities through Amtrak (a slightly longer distance than the trip in this video). For the same price, you get a much worse experience that's less comfortable and takes significantly longer (5+ hours). But wait, by paying an extra $20 you can upgrade to "Business Class"!!! ...which basically gets you some free snacks and less annoying passengers. And also a "guaranteed seat" because you can't even reserve seats normally, so they overbook constantly and have people standing throughout the aisles. Don't even get me started on the restrooms.... if 12:12 is considered a B-tier toilet, then you certainly wouldn't want to use any of the Amtrak toilets.
    The fact that the seats featured in this video are ONLY "regular class" makes me wonder how gorgeous the premium seating must be :)

    Every Japan train video I have seen shows no dirt or damage. For $40 you could not travel 200 miles in the west. Plus the toilets would be filthy, the train falling apart and rude staff. You would have to pay top money for the equivalent economy seats. Japan really has an excellent reputation and I can’t wait to visit one day.

    Thank you for sharing your ride on this amazing train! It truly epitomizes the phrase 'necessity is the mother of invention', as the primary driving force for most new inventions, is a need. I would add to this by stating that due to the limitations of space in places like Japan, new invention engineering is more ergonomic than it would otherwise be, to ensure the maximum utilization of available space. Both a technological reason and a place, for everything. :)

      Because there are literally no tourists in Japan at the moment, as Japan is only allowing 5000 per day to get into the country. And this Limited Express is mostly for tourists who want to go from Osaka to Nagoya. Normal japanese commuters would use only the Rapid train services, that also run between Osaka and Nagoya, but don't have the LE fee to be payed for.
