I claim this song for my Mexican wife and I. I was raised in el paso Texas and that's where I met my wife. We have been married for 38 years so far. And yes there is a cantina named rosa' s at the foot of a hill, great place.
I wished I had known this, I would have found it back in 2000 when I went by El Paso. I took my parents (both gone now) on a trip out west, they would have loved stopping there.
I first heard this song while in the US Army stationed in Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX. A local radio station plays this song every night before signing off. Loved it ever since. 😊
El Paso came out in 1959 and was released as a 45 taken from his classic album 'Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs.' It topped the country music chart and also went to #1 on the pop charts. Marty was such a versatile singer and also a great songwriter. Add in the fact that he was a charismatic stage performer and so obviously loved to sing, he really was the real deal.
El Paso is the first song in a trilogy,1966 the song Feleena came out and you find out what happened to her and the third song is El Paso City from 1976 where he looks down from a plane at El Paso all the changes and remembers!
Marty Robbin’s was a very appreciative and humble man , he was a good NASCAR driver too . He did movies , wrote songs for everyone. Extremely talented man ❤
Thanks, guys I don't think I'd ever heard the whole rendition. What a story, romance and the old west! he makes you feel like you're right there. Loved it 👍
My great-grandfather was a US Deputy Marshall in West Texas. My grandfather, who was born in 1880 and passed away in 1976, told many stories of his father's experiences in West Texas and a part of Southwest Oklahoma that was then Texas. There weren't a lot of law officers around during that time, and often, matters were settled outside of the law between two people. My grandfather passed down many stories that my father had written down, and I have now about his father chasing outlaws and his life as a frontier lawman. My grandfather always told me that his father said that many lawmen would work both sides of the law. They would do whatever was necessary to survive and feed their families. I loved your reaction as always ❤️.
My great-grandfather was born in 1883 in Tucson, Arizona, (my hometown) and was a bounty hunter when it was still considered the "wild west" he died when I was just a kid in the early 1960s. but the stories of how it really was compared to the Clint Eastwood movies in the 70s was huge 😂
Theres more to this than you may think. The second song is called Faleena and tells the story of the beautiful dancer at Rosa;s. Such good storytelling.
This is a great reaction, El Paso is the first song of a trilogy. You must do the other two songs to complete the story, definitely want to complete the trilogy. Second song is Faleena and a third is El Paso City
Years ago an ol' dj told a story from back when MR was touring in a rock and roll show. He invited him to have a meal at his house because Marty was homesick and he accepted. After supper he asked their opinion of a song he wrote because he wanted to get into country music, and proceeded to play El Paso in their kitchen. They loved it and Marty never forgot them through the years for kindness and support. Stand-up guy with a great voice too.
When I was about nine years old,I listened to this a lot,my dad had the album that this was on.I have always liked Marty. He was also a race car driver for a while.I am mostly in to rock music, but this is a good song.Thank you two for this one.
Story time: My father worked in the music industry in the 50's and early 60's. He walks into his parent's house and finds my Grandmother listening to this song. He asked her, "so, you like this song?" She says, " oh yes! Very much! His voice, the harmony, the story, it's wonderful." He asked her, " so you think it's going to be a hit?". She says, "Absolutely! It's playing all over the radio, everyone is talking about it." Then my Father says to her, "I wrote that song, it's one of mine.." My grandmother was in shock, astonished at the news. She then went all over the county, telling all of her friends, acquaintances, even strangers she met in the store he wrote it! People began to doubt her, so she demanded he come with her and prove to them he wrote it! My Father being a great practical joker, said why did you tell them that, I was just kidding you?? She got so mad she pushed him out of the house and wouldn't talk to him for almost a year! 😂
Marty Robbins is one of my favorites. "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" is a beautiful song by him. One of my favorites. The El Paso song reacted to is 1 of 3 songshe had about the same story. I'm sure others will comment the names of the other songs. I forgot their names.
Remember my dad, old school farm boy, Vietnam Vet, and Heavy Equipment operator until retirement, and even death, was a cowboy. These are the songs of his youth..and today I remember , and thank him for sharing this and countless others with me. Miss you Pops.
Wonderful Wonderful Reaction!! (parking lot!! 👍😄) This came out the year I graduated from high school. It's amazing that Even today, just hearing the opening notes, I can still belt out this song! 😂 Thank you again! 👍👍👏👏🎉🎉❤️
Thanks for more great memories. I can remember sitting in front of our black and white TV with my mother and watching the country and western music shows and hearing these types of songs. Again thank you. Back when times were a lot simpler.❤❤❤
Nice reaction to El Paso! Several older story-telling were pretty good, especially Johnny Cash. I heard Marty wrote this song from the back seat of a trip to El Paso.
Nice reactions to Marty Robbin's hit "El Paso". The Grateful Dead used to play what they called 'cowboy songs' and two were by Marty, "Big Gun" and "El Paso". Check them out from live performances, they do excellent versions. and two of them were by Marty Robbi
Absolutely agree that you are basically describing this video/song as a mini time capsule of both the American Southwest and the musical story telling of the subsequent generations.
I grew up in El Paso in the 1960s and early 1970s. It has its bads parts but over all I have good memories of growing up there. By the way, I've been in Rosa's Canteen once in the early 70s. 😎😎😎😎
I'm Australian, and in 1977 married a US Navy sailor from El Paso. Because my in-laws couldn't come to the wedding we took a movie of it, and put this song in as background music. I lived there for a little while and could not believe how different it was to Melbourne! It was like living in a movie set!
I grew up in El Paso and it was an all American small city; went to grade school, high school and college there, it was a great place to be!! No longer there but I have wonderful memories. ❤
When I was young in the 60's and 70's my dad would say turn off that crap! Meaning my Motown and Rock n' Roll, so I hated his Country Western 🙃 many years later I realized I was the loser, missed a lot of great music 🎶 😅 Peace✌️ and Love ❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 great reaction 🤣 In the old days they called it The General Store, saw a few in my time!😂
I was 5 years old when this song came out. In the 60s, Western movies and TV shows were very popular. Shows lie "Gunsmoke", "The Wild, Wild West", "The Rifleman" and others were on TV all the time. I don't think they were very historically accurate but it gave us kids fantastical ideas to act out in our playtime.
This is only the first part of the story it’s part of a trilogy. The second song is.Faleena which is about the girl in the song and how they Met and the third song is El PasoCity
In those days they would have hung him for stealing the horse not killing a man in a fair gunfight. This is part of a trilogy you should listen to them all. Marty Robbins had a beautiful voice. White sport coat was one of my favorites.
I enjoyed this one. This was one of my late father's favorite songs and I heard him singing it at the kitchen table many many times. I could almost feel him standing behind me as I was watching this video
My family has a silly attachment to this song. My parents who were married for 50 years had one big fight when my Dad had been looking after a drying sister silly things boiled over. Dad was overwhelmed by emotions and took a bus out of town across 3 States but we tracked him down to El Paso. It doesn't make sense but we adopted this song.
The looks on your gaces when realizing the meanings of parts in the song made me smile. I loved your story about having a cowboy hat when you were young. I think you both would look good in cowboy hats!
I don’t know if you have reacted to Don McLean’s American Pie yet, but one of the lyrics in the second or third verse refers to a Bronckin’ Buck and a Pink Carnation, and that’s a reference to the above White Sportcoat song. It was a huge hit. 😄
Thank you MerchantOfAlba for your (wonderful) reaction. Yes Marty Robbins a masterful story-teller...please, please do a couple more Marty Robbins songs, 'Big Iron' is another great story and performance, please give it a try, thank you again.
This is the first of a trilogy of songs about this one event, 'Feleena' and 'El Paso City' are the other two. Rosa's Cafe is a real place in El Paso and may have been the inspiration for this song.
Marty did 3 songs of this story. After this he did a prequel called "Feleena" and the third "El Paso City". Marty was a classic. I remember listening to him and loving his music when I was a kid.
It's not so much country music but western music. Country used to be called "Country and Western" and included both types. This is such an awesome example of the genre. And the harmonies! Ahhhh!
This is (story telling ) at its best. Check out his song-LOVE ME-really shows off his voice! Some of the high notes he hits are amazing. Country music . They say. Is -three chords and the truth. Still lov watching you guys. Always smiling. Lots of fun👍…dan…north florida
I absolutely love Marty Robin's he was a great singer, my only criticism is not about his voice but I just wished that he sung a happy song now and again, he was is a legend
Country mode activated! This was one of my father's favorite songs (He liked country AND western). As a direct result, it is one of my favorites too. Glad to see you enjoy it.
Stores in the old West were called the "General Store" because a person could buy almost anything, from food, paper, grain, clothing, and farm supplies.
Marty Robbins wrote "You Gave Me a Mountain" which Elvis did an incredible version of on his "Aloha From Hawaii" concert. This was the first number one Billboard hit of the 1960's there are several gems on this album including "Big Iron". It was my mom's favorite album. The guitar playing on this song is just wonderful.
The store they are in is indeed an 'everything store' it's a an old fashioned "General Store", which sold everything from clothes, tools, boots and cookware to flour, sugar, canned goods and other food stuffs. They were the hearts of frontier towns in the old west. Cheers!
There are many great story songs: Dylan's "Hurricane", "The Road Goes on Forever" by Robert Earl Keen, Dylan's "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts", John Prine's "Spanish Pipedream", George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today".
Marty Robbins, was an American singer, songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist & NASCAR racing driver. Robbins was one of the most popular and successful country & western singers for nearly five decades 40's-80's. He had so many hits such as "Singing The Blues", "Devil Woman", "A White Sport Coat", "The Story of My Life", "Don't Worry", "Big Iron", "Knee Deep In The Blues", "Honkytonk Man", "Don't Worry 'Bout Me", "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" etc.
Marty Robbins was an American original in every way. Very talented musician, singer, and song writer, and most people don't know that he also drove race cars. While in the prime of his music career, Marty tried his hand at NASCAR racing at the top level. From the early 70s to the early 80s, he drove in 35 races with 6 top ten finishes and 1 top five. Not at all bad for a part time racer competing with NASCAR's top drivers of the day.
I claim this song for my Mexican wife and I. I was raised in el paso Texas and that's where I met my wife. We have been married for 38 years so far. And yes there is a cantina named rosa' s at the foot of a hill, great place.

Always loved Marty Robbins. He could be very funny too, when appearing on television.
El Paso is the first song in a trilogy,1966 the song Feleena came out and you find out what happened to her and the third song is El Paso City from 1976 where he looks down from a plane at El Paso all the changes and remembers!
Try Steve Martin El Paso.. If you like to laugh.
Marty Robbin’s was a very appreciative and humble man , he was a good NASCAR driver too . He did movies , wrote songs for everyone. Extremely talented man ❤
Marty Robbins. One of America's great story tellers.
The stories were told by the songwriters.
Another good one from Marty Robins is “Big Iron”
I’ve literally seen every marty robbins reaction and listened to pretty much every song thousands of times
Probably my favorite western song from my childhood.
Right. WESTERN song. Not country.
We were a very lucky generation to have this sort of thing right next to the Beatles and Louis Armstrong on the radio.
Yes a lot going on at that time . The radio and music was a fertile ground during this period .
The Power of Love - to have such an influence over you and your life.
You could close your eyes and see the story play out in your mind.
Thanks, guys I don't think I'd ever heard the whole rendition. What a story, romance and the old west! he makes you feel like you're right there. Loved it 👍

Theres more to this than you may think. The second song is called Faleena and tells the story of the beautiful dancer at Rosa;s. Such good storytelling.
Good morning from California! I feel like this is one of the greatest country music songs of all time. Enjoy!
I saw an interview with Marty where he says that he doesn't do country song. He said his songs are Western, and that there is a difference.
@@Gutslinger That shows you how good the song was! It crossed into a different genre, and was one its greatest songs as well!
Classic oldie❤
Marty has such a sublime voice! He wrote the most beautiful song My Woman, My Woman, My Wife. He wrote it for, and about, his wife Marizona.
Please react to this song!
Back in the day this song was not only played on country radio stations but also on rock & roll stations
This is a great reaction, El Paso is the first song of a trilogy. You must do the other two songs to complete the story, definitely want to complete the trilogy. Second song is Faleena and a third is El Paso City

"My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" is another wonderful song by Marty.
I was 12 and we had a mono/ stereo record player and I listened to Marty Robbin's Gunfighter Ballads. El Paso is still a frontier town.
Another one of the great voices. Thank you, again.
So happy you're hearing Marty Robbins!!!
This man is a master story teller and put it all to excellent music and singing.

El Paso was on the album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs and it came out in 1959.
I'm so glad your watching this. It's great. It's a trilogy though. El Paso, Feleena, and El Paso City
The three songs together tell an amazing story.
One of Marty's hits , out of the western genre , is A WHITE SPORTCOAT . YOU would enjoy it.

Good one
Welcome to the "wild, wild West". lol
This is the first song of a trilogy. He was wanted not for the gun fight but for stealing the horse. Check out Falina the next song.
The Grateful Dead played this song for years. They did a great version. Good job as usual guys!!!!!
If you enjoyed that country and western song I think you'll also like "Seven Spanish Angels" by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles.
A must reaction for you is Garth Brooks the dance he did write this particular song and it’s his best I believe
Just want to comment and say I am really enjoying your channel. I hope you keep up the great work!

The parody of this song with Steve Martin is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
