Lyrics
When I get home
It's late at night
I'm black and bloody
From my life
I haven't time to clean my hands
Cuts will only sting me
Through my dreams
It's well past midnight
As I lie
In a semi-conscious state
I dream of people fighting me
Without any reason I can see
In the morning I awake
My arms, my legs, my body aches
The sky outside is wet and grey
So begins another weary day
So (so) begins another weary day
After eating I go out
People passing by me shout
I can't stand this agony
Why don't they talk to me?
In the park I have to rest
I lie down and I do my best
The rain is falling on my face
I wish I could sink without a trace
In the morning I awake
My arms, my legs, my body aches
The sky outside is wet and grey
So begins another weary day
So (so) begins another weary day
In the park I have to rest
I lie down and I do my best
The rain is falling on my face
I wish I could sink without a trace
In the morning I awake
My arms, my legs, my body aches
The sky outside is wet and grey
So begins another weary day
So (so) begins another weary day
So begins another weary day
So (so) begins another weary day

One of the best songs from Madness ❤
Woody is masterful on this. Such a dark, gloomy and brilliant song
Their music will be every bit important and out live both us and them.!!😂
One of their best songs
This song is the theme tune for evrey shift worker out there 🙌 the lyrics are pure working class genius 👌
Careful, they'll start calling 'em woke and we'll have to burn our cds
Brilliant video and music timelessness music
Hear you friend.
Imagine writing this stuff.be around d long after we shuffle off.
My fav Madness song, don't think there's many thinking the same though lol
So begins another weary day...
An old friend played this as what turned out to be his last tune on his breakfast show this morning shortly before dying on air mid-song. The irony being you'd struggle to find a cheerier bloke. You'll be missed by many, Jim Nasium...x OTBC🔰
Still love this band.. Very unique and played a huge part to British music history
RIP Tim Gough. Last song he ever played. Imagine dying to this…. (Had to edit weeks later. Never heard of this song until this poor man passed away on the air. A man I never heard of, thousands of miles an an ocean away, dies on air and still manages to introduce great music to people everywhere!)
Brilliant Brilliant and true to life for a lot of people today the lyrics are brilliant
Really?! That's weird

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
When it is going grab it and don't look back.
Memory and anticipation
When people say "Here's a photo of me when I was younger" every photo of you is when you were younger.
@@lewisner I KNOW! "Well, I did that when I was younger..." like it's an explanation and not an obvious thing.
Genius. No other band like Madness.
We were blessed then, bands did their own thing,so many styles and talent
Absolutely, madness were unique in that they didn't take it too seriously in fact I bet they had a right laugh most of their time, but still producing fantastic tunes at the same time. Videos were unique too
Indeed
Most uniqeu band ever. Madness was my childhood, and it will be my old day too. 60 year young fan forever here.
My mates.. Lee kix.. Mr b in my gang from 70 till 77...skins
I remember listening to these guys in the 80s - such a great group. Their music holds up pretty well. It still sounds great.
Very talented songwriters and performers who spoke to a generation. We didn't realise how lucky we were in the late 70's and early 80's to have so many great bands around at the same time..... the specials, the beat and the jam, to mention just three. Nutty boys forever!
2 true
I was born Jan 1966 so I was right in your time period as well. Such a great time for music.
at that point we still had the beatles etc... and later the pistols, the clash, blondie. souxie and the banshees, talking heads, queen. the list goes on and on
Leonie cheetham yes these were proper youth club days this was called ska music along with punk rock heavey metal and the fact that they actually played the instruments and not done digitally on computer good days had by all
Kraftwerk is superb
Even a dreary Madness song is uplifting.
WOT A BLINDER......LOVED THIS TRACK FOR DECADES......BARSON'S KEYBOARDS ARE KOOOOOOL ON THIS ONE
Never fails to make me smile, for about 40 years now, and yes, my body aches after holding down the same job for almost all those 40 years!
What makes/made Madness so great is the fact that they sang and showed how miserable and determined we British people can be and yet they showed, like the great artists they are, how wonderful that is about British people!
Daniel. That is very true. Where are you from?
Best comment ever
Idiosyncratic, but yeah, I'll take that
pretty much!
You got that bang on mate
Hard working BRITISH life described perfectly. In the morning I awake my arms my legs my body aches the sky outside is wet & grey and so begins another weary day. *** BUT U GOTTA LOVE IT !!! ***
My absolute favourite Madness tune!
Probably one of their best songs, but doesn’t get any airplay these days, unlike other Madness songs.
We won't see this greatness again 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I ask local Radio station to play it and they said they didn't have it on their playlist but all the other shit had on fuckin crap so I changed to another radio station One less Lesnar
Yeah Micheal, obscure but right at the forefront at the same time.
My favourite Madness without a doubt! Top tune, you never hear it, they always play Our House etc. such a shame
@@alsie1 : Just like you never hear the best Bob Marley’s tunes in the radio: Always the same one’s ie One Love, Three Little Birds and No Woman no cry.
I went to see Madness last month and they are still doing all their popular songs and are absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend going to see them. I got into them aged about 14 and Im 51 now and still love them.
These guys deserve a lifetime achievement award, so much better than the crap about today.
I totally agree mate the most underrated band EVER ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nailed it
Seen them as part of two tone tour in the late seventies with the selector and the specials some gig brill live gig
I agree with you son 💯
Great band, great musicians too
Chas Smash is absolutely brilliant in this video as a bloke completely on the edge
looks like a star of david on his face....
Joe
Tight as a drum, bass, rhythm all on point, brilliant band with brilliant talent and enduring sounds. The absolute soundtrack of my childhood and youth and I still can't name a band who can match them today. Haunting track which is very relevant today.
This song is pure genius. Maybe the best song by Madness, even.
Three superb bands never really cracked it here in the States: the Move, the Jam, and especially these guys.
The Madness working class malaise they often sing about doesn't really translate well to the States. I think because it's a very "British" thing to do, to just carry on trudging and not complain. Out if some weird "mustn't complain about my lot" thing. In the States you just buck up your ideas and work harder or something.
The more upbeat songs Our House or It Must Be Love probably translated as they are more universal.
Dunno, just a thought anyway.
A big lot of us were miserable here in the states in the 80s. I know it's not written for us but, I still understood and felt the shit ya Brits were feeling. Thatcher-Reagan,Bush fuckers...
"The Beat" too.
I was 14yrs old....this song still has the same effect on me at 57
The most underrated band ever ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Never a Grey Day when ya got MADNESS.
Absolutely a GREAT BAND ❤️❤️
Such an innovative band. before their time.
Difference between the manufactured boy bands and the real talent that these guys had.
Chaz really smashed this. Great performance
Love this band. I like all sorts of music from rock, indie etc, but these guys are unique. Good humour, Good music, Good lyrics
Madness made the best videos in the history of contemporary music. Period.
Such a banger. Grew up with this. So relevant.
The 1st Madness tune that I ever heard, thanks to my brother and his new cassette. Still fantastic to listen to
Always...
Absolutely LOVE Madness
They had a unique sense of humor...GREAT MUSIC !!!👍
Dunno if anyone has been lucky enough to see the lads in concert lately, its a testament to their talent that what you hear on CD is what you hear live, the interaction with the crowd and each other was phenomenal, 36 odd years and still doing SKA proud...keeping it real before the modern keeping it real were but a gathering in a hairy sack !!!
seen them in singleton park Swansea 21st of last month and they sounded on top top form it was awesome! my only downside was they didn't play this tune, i did shout out a couple of times "grey day"! , nether the less it was amazing!
Me and my grandad always listen to this in his 1997 Jagaur XJR6.. Amazing song ❤
Remember back in the 70'80s when the skies were blue in summer?, Now each day in 2021 tis another weary day....
Your right one of the best British bands ever awesome long live the madness
Great song, very underrated and under played.
I always loved the dark side to their songs.
You knew they started at the bottom. They understood.
J'ai lu que cette chanson racontait la journée d'un chômeur.
Est-ce vrai ?
@@stevemorgan6366 Nah
great comment
It's not dark....just grey !!!
these guys made the best music videos in the history of music videos
Ok Go enters the chat....
Wanker comment.
They were very Pythonesque in their videos. The scene of them walking down the street and going into front doors next to each other is borrowed from the Beatles' film Help where they go into front doors next to each other and then entering the same house as the internal walls had been removed.
Lol I feel songs like this and Cardiac Arrest really added sad depth to my childhood lol. Madness were the first band I discovered that could do Everything
Great Album 'Madness 7' their best stuff imho
Absolutely ❤️💿
Slushpuppie. Excellent album. Madness 7.Grey day, shut up, cardiac arrest, opium eaters, when dawn arrives, Mrs Hutchinson, pac a mac.

Brilliant song❤
Madness is the best band. There is not a single song I hate, even their newest album. I love bullingdon boys, and that was only released a week ago. Madness is one of the parts that makes me, me. I don't know what I would do without Madness.
404 there's More to life than this shikari subliminal postmortem voodoo Green spell negative burning hell awaits led no Creep plastilina Venom sumo once social
One of best songs of the band, in my opinion.
It's 2020 and this song still speaks to me.
Said on another track, the coolest English band by a country mile...If you were a lad, around at the time and you didn't want to be in Madness, you're a liar...
Great bass line too
Forse la più bella canzone dei grandi Madness!!!
Greatest Madness song ever!
My mother at 1:26 and my aunt at 2:15. Another true story
Dan Shaw Great claim too fame there.
also would like to know
Men
Ufff the aunt
The mother looks like Arya
Such a great Band ❤
No CGI. No AI.
These guys are brilliant LEGENDS
Excellent track for these depressing covid times
Madness, great band!
The moment I realised that Madness were an important band. Superb
One of my favourite bands when I was young. Must have been about 8 (years and years after they were big) and they made me realise that music was about more than the bollocks in the top 40.
I remember the singles coming out one after another and thinking, They've done it again - another great record. They were pretty much in another league to everyone else and I was genuinely sad when they broke up - like, Don't go!!!
I love Madness and I'm only elen-teen twelve! I've been listening to madness since the early 1800's!
This song reminds me off many a hangover, but it tells me the night before was a good one, madness have been there.
à cette époque, il y avait 3,5 million de chômeurs en grande Bretagne.
Ces groupes, specials, madness, jam ou squeeze étaient très en phase avec
leur époque.
Still on the road and winning the audiences is the talented, show stopping Madness 🙂👍
Wish I could visit London circa 1981.
Exiting, to put it mildly.
Madness is the epitomy of THE GREAT BRITISH SPITIT OF THE 70'S..... AN ERA FULL OF EXPECTATIONS DREAMING AND SERENDIPITY EXPRESSED THROUGH THE MOST TALENTED GROUPS OF THE past and gone GREAT BRITAIN
great work by bedders
If "Ghost Town" was the Specials opus, with its dark themes that spoke volumes which captured the times, then "Grey Day" was an opus for Madness that also captured the same themes and the mundane bleakness we felt in that time of our lives..
I agree pal ..just my opinion thou that ghost town was more eerie to reflect a time so perfectly.

Yep absolutely.. Good Time to be a young lad.. I was 19 then.. Now 59 😂
But tbf, when I hear old tunes I feel the same as i did
5 years later all those were the fact of life
When I was eight years old me and my friends were dirty filthy kids running wild and free on the streets but now kids don't leave the house without designer clobber and an I phone,we were so poor if we woke up on Xmas morning without a hard on we had nothing to play with, kids lifes are over to quick

Bass playing is great
The best Madness song... ❤
couldn't have picked a less grey day for the video if they tried lol
A great song = my favorite from these guys
That horn ending is fabulous
musical touches in this song are something else,it literally has it all.amazing song
great in the 80s and still great
There will always be this way of feeling ,this is bang on..😊
This is my life.
When England was England very sad watching this
Great backing vocals from CS.
I love the beginning of this vid...... "Laughing all the way to the bank" classic
I left the UK in 1980 because this song exactly described my life there. Never returned except to visit relatives.
Mirror16: You did the best thing.
So you left one year before the song was released? Care to share that time machine 😂😂😂
@@deanosaur808 I didn't leave the UK because of the song, you plonker. I left in 1980 because of the same things indicated in the song , released a year later. Worked all over the world 1980-1989 and have lived in the US since then, now a citizen. Thing only seem to have got greyer in Britain in the years since, so no chance I'll ever return to that shithole except to visit family.
Nowhere is perfect though. The novelty soon wears off whenever you relocate to.
Absolute Madness
what can i say, loooooooooove this band, they was my idol when i was young :))))
Tim Gough brought me here, sadly. But hey, he picked an appropriate song to leave us with.
Timeless brilliant video and music madness just pure music
Soooo many years ago and still one of their best...
My favourite Madness song. Brilliant.
Their Dublin gig on July 1 could be heard four miles away .
That Chorus gives me chills. I think about it often. Love This dark lyric. I'm black and bloody from my life.
Chas is brilliant on the chrous of this song
I love the bass in this song!
I am a die hard Hip Hop Head to the Core But this is what we call DOPE!!!❤️💎
Amazing isn't it?
My favourite was always the drummer, VERY cute ❤️🇬🇧
My favourite band ever😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥
Love the dark element to this! great songwriters, played all their instruments, went their own way basically after Ska! top band period
Good days , when I was big and strong. Oh I miss my youth
Great band! Just discovered in 2019
Well done!! 👍👌😊
Never to late to discover one of the best ever British bands 👍
