Bob Rabbins for years they have shoved their bullshit forcefully down ppl throats and now, ppl no longer listen, turning their faces away from their lies and BS. They absolutely hate it. They’re losing power and power means money. Oh, too bad and oh, so sad... for them!
The most common one I know is "you believe there's no god!" Doesn't matter how much you explain that atheism is just a lack of belief, they'll insist it's a belief that god doesn't exist.
@@jonathanconnor7920 At least "you believe there's no god!" is better than, "You really do believe, you're just lying!" which is the other one they keep pulling.
If putting a dog ahead of your own child is "wrong", then what is putting an imaginary deity ahead of your own child? Let alone butchering that child to prove your loyalty to a supposedly omniscient deity?? Shouldn't the omniscient deity already have known if Abraham was loyal or not? Either way, it's funny to hear a christian say it's wrong to put a dog ahead of your own child...
To quote Voltaire on his death bed when surrounded by god believers who told him "now is the time to denounce the devil" and he replied "now is not the time to be making enemy's"
taledarkside i have heard many weird things from religious ppl but u are one of the most weird i have seen so far.. moral values has 0 to do with religion. atheists has just as much moral as a religious person, its each and every individual person that is different not because of religion. and religion is just a thing parents teach their kids because their parents taught them to belive but fortunately "atheism" as it for some reason is called is growing now when ppl has actually started to think for themselves.
taledarkside Yea we've seen your "moral values".......human sacrifice, slavery, bashing babies to death, rape, torture, child sacrifice, scape goating, guilt, fear, animal sacrifice, animal abuse, genocide, intolerance, bigotry. Religious people are the most immoral people on the planet.
It is possible to answer it. Truth has value to what we do in our lives. False info would cause problems, such as if I'm told tomorrow it will rain while in reality, it won't. The answer is obvious to me but to theists, perhaps they are a bit lost and lack thinking skills.
Majime if you care at all about truth, what is the evidence for your claims. How can we know they are true. All I see is broad generalisations (most of which are empty assumptions) and factually incorrect as well.
Majime ok so I will assume you care about the truth. If so, how can you show without any doubt that what you say is true to someone who doesn't already believe in your god. And how can you for example prove to me that your god IS real, but Allah, Boeddha or Zeus are not. Also, how does the reason for someone fleeing to America prove your claims?
Majime oh I understand the gist of it alright. So how I understand it is that you say you believe that religion hasn't killed, enslaved, tortured and terrorised nations of people, and that those things are only beholden to cultures without religion? So basically you rely on the bible as true source, while at the same time ignoring those same things being condoned by that same bible? What do you think about slavery? Do you find that moral or immoral?
+Badger dog: "Don't forget that the bible calls atheism foolishness. There is always another side to things like this." ==I scanned the king james version of the bible. The word "atheist" is not present. The relevant line is "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Psalm 14:1-7 but I assume this line is talking about the jewish god. The jews want people to believe their cultural god is real and other cultural gods are not.
Louis Tournas There is only one God. Period, And you know who I am talking about. If you think there are others then go ahead and seek them out. But you will never find one .
Badger dog Yes, there is only the jewish god that is real if you are a jew or one of the derivative religions. There are only the hindu gods that are real when you are a hindu. Only the greek gods are real when you are greek. Only the armenian gods are real when you are armenian. Every culture has developed some gods and magical myths to go along with them to explain nature. They were superstitious people. People are born in a certain country, to a certain set of parents, at a certain date. The parents pass on their religion to the kids.
Translation = "As a christian im so judgmental of others that I need assurance that you have morals so i dont judge you, even though judging is a sin."
rubbish , to a believer if your not a believer they judge you.try having a conversation with Jehovah`s over how its possible with the world view that aboriginal people of Australia are at least 23,000 years older than oldest currently practiced middle eastern death cults , and all i get is look of bemused fear , if they retaliate and reiterate their bible is true , they are being racist to the oldest living civilization and culture on earth which has no middle eastern death cults in them.
I've had christians tell me that they are just and right to judge me when I remind them of the relevant verse in the book of Matthew. I was so naive to think christians actually took value in the bible.
Tracy is my favorite to listen to on these. She always stays calm, gives clear and concise examples, and really solidifies her points by effectively talking through everything in a logical manner.
Mat Broomfield That's cool. I reserve my hate for idiots that try to dismiss science for outdated ideas and books they defend but obviously haven't read... that's what I hate :)
politicsequalsgarbag Anybody who doesn't recognise that the way you sell your message is as important as what that message is, is a fool. If the purpose of the show is to polarise people as far apart as possible, whilst proving what a smartass you can be, then it succeeds spectacularly. If on the other hand, the purpose is to win people over to the side of reason, then Dillahunty's churlish, rude impatience is the antithesis of effective strategy. Just contrast him Bill Nye after his brilliant debate with Ken Ham.
Mat Broomfield Sometimes people need to be shaken a little to make them see their own misconseptions. Matt is great at doing that. He can also be very patient with some people.
The caller seemed preoccupied with the idea that Atheists do not value other humans. Does the Bible not teach people to love God OVER other humans, including your own family? (To the point of asking Abraham to kill his son?) Using this information, should a christian in a burning building save a bible before saving a baby OR a puppy?
There is nothing in atheism that says you should or should not value other humans. However in the absence of a god based philosophy an atheist either relies on his evolved innate morals as a social animal or adopts some other philosophy such as humanism, which provides the moral framework. So I disagree with Matt, against either of those criteria you rescue the baby.
Only Muslims would save their book over a puppy, I think.. They seem to be the ones who get the most gay over stuff like that. But I could be wrong, Christians get pretty weird too.
Why did Tracy leave? The new co-hosts are all pretty lame. Matt is very interesting but his lack of patience can be annoying. He gets angry way too quick.
Get real Matt. If you can only save one you save the baby. Not just because it's a human but because it's objectively of greater value (it's likely to live much longer and add more value to the world than a dog).
@Joseph lots of the female cast left during the trans issue. Honestly, though Matt is at his best argumentatively now, I enjoy the older episodes because these seems like conversations
No. This caller was respectful and clearly listened to and thought about what was said to him. You would have noticed that if you'd listened to what _he_ said.
I suspect, depending on where we visit, *we do need badges....* but that's not our fault, it's theirs....these are the same idiots who think a woman in revealing clothes is "asking for it" when she's out in public....it stands to reason they expect us to wear name tags disclosing our position and intentions. NOTE I'm by no means excusing this ridiculous expectation, rather, that it is an expectation is .....predictable
Well, let's look at this issue from the other perspective. A Christian is put in the same situation-- House on fire, only able to save either puppy or baby. Baby-- Has a soul, will therefore presumably go to heaven. Puppy-- no soul, will just die. So the Christian will presumably choose to save the puppy too. Just kidding! The christian will just kneel and pray for them both to be rescued.
Practice, practice, practace, got to stay in practice, never know when you have to send some heathen to hell to burn so he needs to keep the heat just right.
Leaving the belief in god is like breaking up with your highschool boyfriend, you are so anxious, you think you'll never be able to love again, you're fearful of being alone... But after a while it's the best thing you've ever done and you eventually forget him, move on, fall in love again and when you think back you cant understand why you were with him in the first place.
Badger dog: So, living by the book of our all-loving, all-benevolent creator, you can't wait for him to kill us all. Leave me out of your nightmare, please.
The best way to get your friends to stop posting pictures of their lunch on social media, is to respond by posting pictures of your lunch on social media ...
While I was out hunting for my lunch (a scrumptious puppy), it ran into a burning building! In the building it had curled up next to a baby - alas - I could only carry one of them, and as a consequence the puppy burned to death. … the baby was delicious though. 😁
taledarkside You only think that because you "agnostics" are too stupid to realize that your positions are the same as most atheists. That's why agnostic babies taste of ignorance and cowardice.
philip h I think you have that backward. All agnostics may be atheists (they lack belief in god) but some atheists think they do know that there is no god - thus not agnostic. There is also the definition of agnostic in which one can believe there is a god, but that man can know nothing of its nature - but I don't know if any American agnostics use the term this way.
It is very simple. The woman that saved the puppy instead of the child was a Christian. In her mind, god will save the baby, that is why she saved the puppy.
hhoinfo My big complaint is that the sky god could save the baby but decides not to do so because: Insert Christian Apology Here... But chooses NOT to do so, and christians praise this entity.
hhoinfo Thats so true! The baby will go to heaven anyway, while if she had saved the baby, that means she would give it the chance to become a sinner or an atheist and then go to hell. So practically, she saved both the baby and the puppy. Correction: The baby automatically goes to heaven only if it had been baptized, because fuck those unbaptized babies. God hates them.
When I was a Christian I was always afraid of going to hell and always pissed off with people. After i reconverted I started to think about my old beliefs and I figured out those were the problem. Now I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and I am at peace with my lack of belief.
I suppose "truth" means "what god says" for a bunch of theists. In that case everything makes sense, yeah truth matters if god is real and doesn't matter at all if god it's real.
Liz R No. Free will gets the blame when things go wrong. Christian apologists make sure the sky god gets the credit when anything goes right. Heads gods win, tails gods win.
+BuddhaAtheist29 It's an intentionally structured question that doesn't prove a point, only suggest some claim, that didn't catch Matt off guard as the caller had hoped.
Tamlinearthly Yeah, on re-reading, I get how you'd get an impression other than what I meant. I'll admit that my wit doesn't always scan in text. I was riffing on the OP. That is if, as OP cited "HUMANists are only concerned with humans"...then, by projection, ATHEists (ahem; we atheists...does that clarify my POV?) would only be concerned with...aths. The funny part, I figured, was "but wait...what's an ath? That's not a thing." Hence...funny. But instead, I made an ath...of myself. I guess I should've made that athes. Yeah, that would've made it LOTS clearer. (eye roll). Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify that for posterity.
Tamlinearthly Yikes. My style ranges. But if I'm leaving myself open to be characterized as quasi-literate...then my style (or filter) needs some re-thinking. thanks for the candid input. And, well I did just make up (or isolate the component of) the word for that post. So no "learning" required. Cheers.
Agreed and I must add, never trust anyone who repeatedly uses your name during a conversation....I would bet this guy has been a used car salesman at one time.
I know what you're saying, but I didn't get that in this instance. I don't think the caller's mind was changed, but he didn't come off like an oily car salesman ... and his "that's interesting" ... seemed somewhat genuine ... meh.
+john doe Put the baby in a large roaster and cover liberally with barbecue sauce and sauerkraut. Put in chunks of potato and baby carrots, and a small sliced onion. Preheat oven to 275 degrees and slow roast for four hours. If no babies are available, a pork loin works well too - but it needs a bit less cooking time :-)
If she runs into a house that is entirely engulfed in flames I would bet that neither she, nor the puppy, nor the baby would come out alive. That's a job for trained firefighters with proper equipment.
no one has ever been in a fire without fire-fighters? indeed, they themselves would be fire-fighters. what r u getting at? trained to see, and re-trained not to fear and panic because of fire? the point is, some people die in the presence of ''trained'' fire-fighters [lol], and some live in the absence of such trained fire-fighter. factor ? panic in anycase, stop the scare-mongering
I would rather die than stand and watch as a child or puppy were being burned to death. It would haunt me forever that I didn't at least try to rescue at least one of them.
I love how the caller called in thinking he would outsmart them, and Tracey just had to hear his opening words and she had already worked out his game and defeated him before he even finished the question.
Well, they're both a lot of trouble, chewing on anything they can get hold of, getting into things and making a mess, constantly making noise, both require a lot of time and attention, you have to train them.....unless it's your own baby I don't see a lot of difference. :-)
The burning building analogy is ridiculous. As far as the situation goes, assuming I could go into a house entirely engulfed in flames, which would probably be next to impossible, i would save the baby if I could. Why ? Because as soon as I get the door open, assuming the puppy is still alive, the puppy will instinctively bolt out the door. Amimals instinctively free from danger. An infant on the other hand is far more helpless. The baby cannot walk and is far more helpless than the puppy. The baby will require someones assistance to get out of its crib and get out of the burning house. The puppy is far more adept in saving itself given the opportunity.
The ridiculous thing, is the way that you utterly missed the point. It wasn't an analogy - it was a thought experiment to determine if an atheist valued a human life over one of a different species that has taken just as long to evolve. In focussing on the technicalities, you missed the ethical crux of the question. Fortunately Tracie more or less got a handle on the question and somewhat answered it.
Jed Clampett Oh lord, anyone but Joyce Meyer. The title alone already speaks volumes of the pious nature of anything that may be in the book. I don't think god is mad, I think he isn't there.
Jed Clampett You've plugged that idiotic book in the comments of nearly every Atheist Experience video I've watched this evening, what are you, her publicist?! If you are, you're seriously aiming it at the wrong crowd...
Most theists do belong to the less-educated strata. Most scientists will be active (or closet) atheists simply because they have learned to think logically.
Majime nice gish gallop of misleading information. Some *scientists* happened to be Christian but it's not really their religion that contributed to their findings in most cases. You also conveniently ignore the fact that the Catholic church was the ones stifling scientific research for hundreds of years. Galileo being a perfect example. Also, some of the most technology driven countries such as japan are mostly atheistic. Also, do you realize that country's that are mostly secular tend to have lower crime and poverty than more religious countries? Finally, your last point is also extremely biased. 2 very strong countries besides the U.S. are Israel and Saudi Arabia. One being Jewish and the other being Muslim. Explain those countries. My last point is addressing your baseless assertion. Explain how other religions are mediocre compared to Christianity when your religion has the same claims and evidence as all the rest of them or the fact that Christians engaged in the same exact violence in the past three same way.
Majime this is due to the influence of Greek philosophy on the west which had a huge influence on Christianity in general. It's not because of Christianity.
@Majime Got bias???I also don't know where you're getting these ideas. They are half baked self serving and assume much about Christianity while leaving out it's faults. It also precludes that Christianity itself rose fully formed and didn't have assistance form so many non Christian sources that make the things you say snobbish, elietist, and yes, completely biased .How important is Truth to you??? Before you head down in me with more of your "truth", remember had notypu know who stepped; in and held the Synod to codify the Bible, early Christianity would of cannabilized itself....
There are many amazing things in this world. One of the most astonishing is that many people still appear to believe in talking snakes and asses, global floods, magical gods who live way up in the sky, virgin pregnancies, men living inside fish and dead guys waking up after 3 days.
There are cases in which a member of a social species will value a member of a different species more than a member of its own species. For example, any good dog will defend its owner from other dogs, sometimes to the death. It's not so much a matter of species as of social group. A dog protects its owner because it recognizes its owner as a member of its pack.
Wizard Suth: In a group of humans each of whom has a dog and is the "owner" of that dog as far as humans are concerned. In that same group of animals, to all the other dogs each dog "owns" its human and in many cases will defend its human against all other dogs. Law of the Jungle: Clause 12, Para 3, Point 7b

Paul agreed with the hosts every time they showed him how his arguments were flawed and incorrect . And you could tell it didn't make the slightest dent . Paul's still going to believe what he wants to believe regardless whether their right or wrong .
One of my brothers is a nurse , some time ago he was working in a hospice , one of the patients had been a R.C priest for most of his life , about 2 months before he died he lost his faith , my brother said that it was one of the worst deaths that he had witnessed , the poor guy just couldn't reconcile on how he'd wasted so much of his life believing stuff that he had no good reason to believe . +Robert Carey Guess what, not everyone needs an emotional pillow to rest their consciousness on during their moment of death... What matters most is NOT what you are thinking during the end, it's what you DO during the parts before it. How is fooling yourself into thinking the end isn't really the end, just to make it more comfortable, how is that changing anything that you did during your life? I'm sorry but I refuse to be blinded by ignorant bliss my entire life so that the least significant portion of it is more cushy.

I knew a six year old boy that enjoyed beating/harming innocent and very obedient animals just because, “It wouldn’t move.” He was violent and vicious to pretty much any opposition to him. He was a previous girlfriend of mine’s child. He was an unusually cruel child that almost always struck or stole from another child while at school or anywhere else. I opposed his behavior vocally, and never spanked him, yet he claims to a therapist that I was abusive. Very weird...
Sounds like he was a victim of heavy child abuse, probably instilling sociopathic tendencies (like the tendency to lie for self-benefit). Poor kid, sorry you had to go through that too
21:28 Right now matters. The guy’s saying, ”Why do the right thing if there’s nothing after you die?” Matt said,”It’s like saying you shouldn’t eat your lunch because you’re gonna poop it out later.. *It mattered at the time!* “ It’s interesting how he thinks he needs a reward for being a decent human being.
I have a friend, we've worked together for nearly 20 years. He retired last year and we go out for a drink once a month, to keep in touch. I have no idea what religion he is. We never discuss religion. I don't care what religion he is (or isn't).
Matt needs to work on his people skills. Tracie seems better at getting Christians to actually question their faith by having a more friendly conversation with them. Matt is always so aggressive in who gets to talk when.
Agreed 1000%! Matt is the most articulate and eloquent of all hosts 99% of the time but some times I just wish he would tone down his "I have power over you with my mute button" he has going. He will blast someone for interrupting him and tell them to shutup and let him finish but then he will interrupt them right back 30 seconds later, thats unfair
I truly agree 100%, I've actually commented the very same thing on other videos... Matt acts like the Hold button is like his own personal 'smite' button, Tracie, Jen, Don, and the other bald one (I always forget his name!!) actually engage the callers and many times get them to question their own beliefs...
I don't agree. Matt's style is entertaining, and his method weeds through more callers quicker. Nobody wants to hear a caller yammer on for most of the show. As long as they are having a productive conversation, it's fine. It's when the caller is backed into the corner does it become frustrating for the listener. I should note that Matt gets emails all the time from people who claim to have been deconverted by their discussions.
Just because they've found out we eat children, it doesn't mean I'll be stopping any time soon. After all they eat Jesus every Sunday and we don't complain.
For all those arguing FOR religion, just this: atheism is a non-belief/disbelief (in this case, in deities). You cannot conclude from a non-belief a single other belief. Atheists (those that I know) have a HUGE variety of beliefs/opinions in a variety of things (outside of religion), there is NO unanimity. So the argument "if you don't believe in A then you must believe in B", is false. It's the alphabet, or to each atheist his own letter or set of letters.
gavsmith1980 Yes, I know. I guess I just assumed that people reading my response would "get" how I thought it should be read. Perhaps to avoid confusion I should have reworded my comment.
Lone Wolf some women have sex with dogs and dogs comply every time maybe there turn the women down but who knows I don't think so tho dogs cannot be trusted not in that area there not really the best yes and no
I agree with Matt and Tracy's evaluation. I nearly every circumstance I can imagine, I would choose to save the child over the puppy, though I have a deep love of dogs. I can give no other reasoning for this than gut reflex. I don't believe a baby's existence is any more valuable than a puppy's, but a baby's life is more important, if that makes any sense. I don't believe humans are any more "important" as a species than any other. But we are more important to ourselves, which is likely why I'd save the baby. To me, the life of a baby has far more inherent value than a puppy's, but to the universe I believe we're much the same - just another bit of matter in a tiny spec of space. I think the preference we subconsciously give to a human over another species is much the same as the preference we give to our own family and friends over all other humans. I also don't believe our existence gives us any particular importance or purpose. We create purpose by following our desires (general term, not only sex), and become important to those around us through our interactions. We are exactly what we make of ourselves.
The difference between Atheists and Theists that I find the most striking is, for Theists they view their death not as the end, but a birth into a new existence. Atheists however understand that the least significant portion of their existence is at the end of their life, particularly the part where they die and thus they recognize that it is not advantageous to be blissfully ignorant their entire life just so that the most insignificant portion is more comfortable. We refuse to make the least important portion of our lives more comfortable at the expense of the more important parts that came before it. Viewing the end of your life like Theists do is ignoring the fact that by that time, it's too late to accomplish anything, and it is a naturally ugly part of everyone's existence, and there are more sounder, medicinal ways to make ones passing more comfortable than by ruining your intellect by believing nonsense your entire life. If Theists want to live their entire life blind to reality, so be it, but please don't go suggesting that a mentally anguished Atheists death is somehow sound reasoning for other Atheists to change their ways and thus avoid such a fate. Remember, the end of life isn't important, it's the parts before that are, and that's all that matters to us.

This guy is really interesting. He is clearly a hardcore, knocking-on-doors evangelist. He has clearly been trained in how to talk to people. "After everything the other person says, say 'thank you for that point' or something like it, and use their name a lot."

Tracy made one of the best points I have ever heard. Theists, almost universally believe an atheist they meet for the first time is evil and/or is in some way immoral. But, atheists upon meeting a theist do not universally believe that they are pro-slavery, homophobic and anti-science. This caller, Paul, his mind is so messed up in so many ways it's extremely jarring to listen to. As someone who considers themself as relatively 'normal', it is disturbing and disappointing to know there are people like that in the world today. I really wish humankind would get over this religion thing and move on.
What a stupid idea! I'm getting along just fine with somebody and the moment he/she finds out that I'm an atheist his or her opinion of me will plummet? That's not our problem but the theists.
+Dominick Liberatore What a bizarre lie from the caller. Heck, Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker ripped off millions of poor people so that their dog's doghouse could have an AIR CONDITIONER!
This guy seemed kind of nice, but wow, what a condescending arse. And his presumption that one human being should have to prove to the 'faithful' that they pose no threat, just because they don't share your belief system is unbelievable insulting. No, I will not pander to your ignorance...
I feel like I'm comfortably on board with my rather dim view of religions, but I still watch all of your videos because each one offers new insights. What I want to learn the most about from here on out is how the believer's mind works and how I might be able to help some of them. A portion of my close family is over-the-top chrischun, and I've been basically ostracized, and I don't feel any real hope I'll ever get them to understand because of their angry outbursts & total denial. It sort of breaks my heart. They care more about clinging to their delusions than caring about those who love them.
DGHavoc907 Or they got mixed up with Christianity at some point, so they were seen as unholy creatures which would be harmed by holy objects like crosses. I didn’t do my research or think that much about it when I wrote my original comment; that was years ago.
Truth. I don't get, now that I'm on the outside looking in, why ANYONE would spend their only life -- the ONE they KNOW they have -- in reverence of a 'better existence that never ends' and ONLY STARTS AFTER YOU DIE, and ONLY if you QUALIFY for it? And has NEVER been proven to exist? I'll take what I've got, thanks.
Regarding the discussion about 'Heaven' at around the @16:00 mark, I think it's important to point out a CASE that even Pascal himself missed. Why do people so quickly ASSUME that if there is a god, that this god necessarily wants humans to have 'faith' in anything at all? How do we know that this god, if it existed, wouldn't throw people into 'hell' simply for refusing to use the head on their shoulders? Maybe this god, if it exists, doesn't want any of us humans to take anything to be 'True' based upon insufficient evidence?!!
Can people give credit to this caller!? Regardless of how delusional he was... Which is very slightly compared to others, he kept his composure and even kept quiet respectfully when he didn't have to, when was told. Even when matt was being a douche that one or two times. What manners this caller has! HOORAY FOR HIM! I'm so serious btw.

@@ewg6200 The abrahamic god is one of the most evil characters in all of fiction.
It’s funny to hear a Christian speak from any position of morality 😂
@Hoichi: Excellent point.
Yet they put their god ahead of everything in their life smh.
Thanks for the wonderfully articulated rebuttal to the subject matter.
Yes, the bible is immoral and “god” is a monster

taledarkside i have heard many weird things from religious ppl but u are one of the most weird i have seen so far.. moral values has 0 to do with religion. atheists has just as much moral as a religious person, its each and every individual person that is different not because of religion. and religion is just a thing parents teach their kids because their parents taught them to belive but fortunately "atheism" as it for some reason is called is growing now when ppl has actually started to think for themselves.
taledarkside Yea we've seen your "moral values".......human sacrifice, slavery, bashing babies to death, rape, torture, child sacrifice, scape goating, guilt, fear, animal sacrifice, animal abuse, genocide, intolerance, bigotry.
Religious people are the most immoral people on the planet.
taledarkside And believing in imaginary things is an excellent sign of maturity.
taledarkside Yes not believing in imaginary things means I have a mental disorder. Wow! The more you know.
LOL, good one. I'll have to remember that.
"Why does truth matter so much?"
Oh my goodness... why would you ever need to ask such a thing?
The answer is because the word why is otherwise meaningless.
HELP! I'm on a binge watching The Atheist Experience clips where theists make idiots out of themselves and it's so funny I can't stop...

The relevant line is
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Psalm 14:1-7

Louis Tournas There is only one God. Period, And you know who I am talking about. If you think there are others then go ahead and seek them out. But you will never find one .

Yes, there is only the jewish god that is real if you are a jew or one of the derivative religions.

Ossie Dunstan just look into the story of cane, able and their twin sister/wife awan and you will know how even morally the Bible is fucked up.
I've had christians tell me that they are just and right to judge me when I remind them of the relevant verse in the book of Matthew. I was so naive to think christians actually took value in the bible.
They are under the misapprehension that they have removed the forest growing from their eyes and therefore have earned the right to judge others.
Tracy is my favorite to listen to on these. She always stays calm, gives clear and concise examples, and really solidifies her points by effectively talking through everything in a logical manner.
Unlike Matt, who is impatient, pompous and rude. He may know a lot, but he exemplifies everything that I hate about atheists.
Mat Broomfield
He's right though.
Mat Broomfield
That's cool.
(To the point of asking Abraham to kill his son?)
Using this information, should a christian in a burning building save a bible before saving a baby OR a puppy?
There is nothing in atheism that says you should or should not value other humans. However in the absence of a god based philosophy an atheist either relies on his evolved innate morals as a social animal or adopts some other philosophy such as humanism, which provides the moral framework. So I disagree with Matt, against either of those criteria you rescue the baby.
Only Muslims would save their book over a puppy, I think.. They seem to be the ones who get the most gay over stuff like that. But I could be wrong, Christians get pretty weird too.
Plot twist: If you save the baby you can eat it! It would be wrong to eat a puppy...
This is exactly what I thought of. "Kill your kid for me" ~ God
Sandra Noneofyourbusiness they should only pick the baby if it’s not female. 😉
Matt and tracie are such a killer combo, definitely my two favorite speakers on the show.
We miss Tracie.

"That's very interesting" translates to "I didn't listen to a word you just said. Here's more nonsense."
That is very common with theists .............
No. This caller was respectful and clearly listened to and thought about what was said to him. You would have noticed that if you'd listened to what _he_ said.
He's acting like atheists are visiting aliens that need to wear a badge that says 'we come in peace'. Every time they go outside.
Lol
That sounds exactly like it, the way this guy thinks people talk about their beliefs.
I like the premise..... But make the choice btw a Muslim baby and a puppy...... wouldn't make any difference to an Athiests......
And then just say that God works in mysterious ways when both baby and puppy die
Why would Christian go anywhere, just pray and ask Got to help you understand his reasons for taking the Baby to heaven so soon?
Poor pupper
ET your right, i would probably make an effort to save them both. I’m an atheist btw.
Why didn't god put the fire out ?
Because he didn't start it. The baby did.
Practice, practice, practace, got to stay in practice, never know when you have to send some heathen to hell to burn so he needs to keep the heat just right.
because it has been always burning since the world's been turning.
Because.... Reasons! MYSTERIOUS ways ofc....
of course ill not save the baby he is baptized and will go to heaven the dog isnt gotta save him dont i (and atheists have no morals after that)
When a Theist becomes an Atheist, people ask, why did you lose your faith? When an Atheist becomes a Theist, I ask, why did you lose your reason?
Leaving the belief in god is like breaking up with your highschool boyfriend, you are so anxious, you think you'll never be able to love again, you're fearful of being alone... But after a while it's the best thing you've ever done and you eventually forget him, move on, fall in love again and when you think back you cant understand why you were with him in the first place.

You only think that because you "agnostics" are too stupid to realize that your positions are the same as most atheists. That's why agnostic babies taste of ignorance and cowardice.
philip h
I think you have that backward. All agnostics may be atheists (they lack belief in god) but some atheists think they do know that there is no god - thus not agnostic. There is also the definition of agnostic in which one can believe there is a god, but that man can know nothing of its nature - but I don't know if any American agnostics use the term this way.
philip h
You did say that all atheist are agnostics, did you not?
I love how Tracy was immediately able to discern Paul's argument before he even began.
Joshua Nicholls----unfortunately....theists have the SAME argument...over and over and over and over........so it isn't surprising, to me anyway
I'm an atheist, and of COURSE I would save the puppy.
I'd go back in for the baby when it's medium rare...

Dead baby jokes are the best
I'd die trying to save both. It's a shitty hypothetical.
The puppy would taste better medium rare.
Michael Dennis God's Will. Drops mic.
hhoinfo Thats so true!
***** That is just Sick.
All life on earth dies, except one, Lucky us. Why would any one believe that stupidity .
hhoinfo Yes thats what I'm saying.
When I was a Christian I was always afraid of going to hell and always pissed off with people. After i reconverted I started to think about my old beliefs and I figured out those were the problem. Now I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and I am at peace with my lack of belief.

Tamlinearthly
Yeah, on re-reading, I get how you'd get an impression other than what I meant.
(eye roll).

I assumed "aths" was just quasi-literate UA-cam shorthand for "atheists." Live and learn. :P

Yikes. My style ranges. But if I'm leaving myself open to be characterized as quasi-literate...then my style (or filter) needs some re-thinking. thanks for the candid input.
And, well I did just make up (or isolate the component of) the word for that post. So no "learning" required.

The wonderful wizard of god...
Tracie and Matt showed us that the caller was an idiot.
Mat Broomfield
There is no ethical crux when the premise is problematic. Perhaps the caller should've chosen a scenario that immobilizes the dog.

one of the biggest barriers between atheists and theists is the lack of vocabulary on the theist's behalf.
Most theists do belong to the less-educated strata. Most scientists will be active (or closet) atheists simply because they have learned to think logically.
There are words that I simply didn't know back then.
All the time spent worrying about an afterlife that probably doesn’t exist instead of focusing on living life now.

There are cases in which a member of a social species will value a member of a different species more than a member of its own species. For example, any good dog will defend its owner from other dogs, sometimes to the death. It's not so much a matter of species as of social group. A dog protects its owner because it recognizes its owner as a member of its pack.
To be fair, I'd defend my dog against inappropriate humans.
Wizard Suth: In a group of humans each of whom has a dog and is the "owner" of that dog as far as humans are concerned. My brother working in the hospice obviously witnessed a lot of death , this guys just haunted him as being one of the worst , i've only ever witnessed one person die , his was very peaceful and much needed as he'd suffered the worst of Motor Neurons Disease , personally i try not to do regret and this story certainly helped reinforce that decision , i tell it as it impacted me also imagining how this guy must have felt at the end !.
Poor kid, sorry you had to go through that too
Sounds very "christian"
21:28 Right now matters. The guy’s saying, ”Why do the right thing if there’s nothing after you die?” Matt said,”It’s like saying you shouldn’t eat your lunch because you’re gonna poop it out later.. *It mattered at the time!* “
It’s interesting how he thinks he needs a reward for being a decent human being.
their "morality" comes from fear, whereas ours comes from love for fellow creatures
I
Legend has it he's still just quickly saying one more thing.
Damn, I miss Tracie so much.
I AM BOB'S TRIGGERED GLASS JAW MIND She walks the walk with her humanist values.
We all do Tracie where are you..
@@ralphfurley404 Shes on Twitter she's active there.
I have a friend, we've worked together for nearly 20 years. He retired last year and we go out for a drink once a month, to keep in touch.
I have no idea what religion he is. We never discuss religion. I don't care what religion he is (or isn't).
I'm an atheist. I lack belief any gods. If that makes up uncomfortable, I really don't care!
This is def the best team. Amazing how Tracie can explain herself to clearly...
Matt needs to work on his people skills. Tracie seems better at getting Christians to actually question their faith by having a more friendly conversation with them. Matt is always so aggressive in who gets to talk when.
completely completely agree I really like the way tracie conducts herself.
Amanda Anderson
I agree. . . but it is true that, the bigger the asshole moderator, the more calls taken.
"No, I know what you're saying. I just think you're wrong." I fucking love Tracie.
I can only watch 2 or 3 videos at a time. After that these caller make me lose brain cells...and I don't want to become a Christian
Just because they've found out we eat children, it doesn't mean I'll be stopping any time soon. After all they eat Jesus every Sunday and we don't complain.
Eating Jeezaz sounds gross...
The world needs more puppies, not babies.
Personally I think Norse Mythology is better.
It's almost like humans desire some higher authority to justify the awful things they do to other humans who aren't "like them," so to speak.
+roadkill5555556 not almost, exactly.
gavsmith1980
Yes, I know. I guess I just assumed that people reading my response would "get" how I thought it should be read. Perhaps to avoid confusion I should have reworded my comment.
Odin is the All-Father.
Odin will crush puny Christian god! ARRRGH!
9:22
The sound of Paul's mind being blown...
dogs are the best people
Lone Wolf some women have sex with dogs and dogs comply every time maybe there turn the women down but who knows I don't think so tho dogs cannot be trusted not in that area there not really the best yes and no
Theists, priests and preachers, like children. They really like children.
Not so mad on Asian children. An hour later you want another
I agree with Matt and Tracy's evaluation.
10 years later and I'm still coming to this guys channel. I just love these old AE videos.
+PathstowardGodbyfaithcome John i do not choose to go to hell, your god decides for me instead. No free will to choose eh?
Before I go anywhere with a Christian, I always check their views on slavery and make sure they don't feel it is acceptable. I don't want to be sold as a sex slave.
Settle down..
@@morbidone88 When there are Evangelical Christian facists at every corner? How can I? Maybe if I sold as a sex slave to some hot chick it would be okay, but knowing my luck it will be to some mountain men in West Virginia or Missisppi.
@@morbidone88It's entirely valid, especially as a woman. It may seem hyperbolic but the potential for kidnapping and trafficking with strangers is like a coin toss if you have no prior knowledge about them
@@unknown6390 Oh Please, men and womem are trafficked at almost the same rate, you aren't special, stop living your life in fear. Or perhaps you enjoy pretending you could be a victim?
@20:42 "... in an atheistic world though, why does truth matter so much to you though ... ?" -The sheer obliviousness of this sentence is hard to describe. It's certainly not flattering.
Yeah, but religion is based on the idea that faith is more valuable than truth.
This guy is really interesting. He is clearly a hardcore, knocking-on-doors evangelist. He has clearly been trained in how to talk to people. "After everything the other person says, say 'thank you for that point' or something like it, and use their name a lot."
i know this is 6 years old but i was thinking the same exact thing. way too cordial
@@vansdan. I'm still here!

If the baby was named Adolf, I would save the puppy.
I love when Tracy flips the "flawless victory" switch at 11:33 to highlight precisely why Paul's line of reasoning is f'd beyond all recognition
this caller needs help too...this is what i mean when i say they're contagiously sick! holy crap, what happened to these people?
Leviticus 26:29
And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
i haven't watched the video yet but i can feel the irony meters going off the charts from the title alone... now to see if i am accurate ;)
I think I might be able to save a baby and a puppy at the same time.
I really wish humankind would get over this religion thing and move on.
that Paul caller is so deluded is not even funny.
It's actually hilarious to me
What a stupid idea! I'm getting along just fine with somebody and the moment he/she finds out that I'm an atheist his or her opinion of me will plummet? That's not our problem but the theists.
I'm a misanthrope I'm saving the god damn puppy.
I'm an apathist and I don't care.
+Coy Hampton You made my day! Haha
The Borax Kid im selfish i wil not rish my skin
Same. Animals haven't mocked or slighted me, so why would I value a random human more?
Save the puppy! The infant might be the offspring of Wilder Chairs
Paul: One last thing...
Call: continues 14 more minutes.
"Hi, I'm an atheist and I care more about your dog than your child."
+Dominick Liberatore What a bizarre lie from the caller.
Heck, Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker ripped off millions of poor people so that their dog's doghouse could have an AIR CONDITIONER!
Tracy and Matt are the perfect combination of good cop, bad cop
If atheism is real then why do vampires hate croses? CHECKMATE ATHEISTS
Damn! Flawless victory!
Vampires are fictional creatures originating from Catholic lore.
K1naku5ana3R1ka vampire bats exist though
@@KnakuanaRkaI thought they originated from slavic lore?
DGHavoc907 Or they got mixed up with Christianity at some point, so they were seen as unholy creatures which would be harmed by holy objects like crosses. I didn’t do my research or think that much about it when I wrote my original comment; that was years ago.
I think it’s disgusting that God would allow a puppy and a baby to be in a burning building. What in the hell is wrong with him?
Most everything?
Being an atheist means that you have everything to live for right now. So you can and should enjoy life because that is all you get.
***** Doesn't it feel like out of a prison for you?
Jimmy David -- ABSOLUTELY!!

Adam McCrory I'm planning to have a nice little fat one for lunch. Care to join?
Regarding the discussion about 'Heaven' at around the @16:00 mark, I think it's important to point out a CASE that even Pascal himself missed. Why do people so quickly ASSUME that if there is a god, that this god necessarily wants humans to have 'faith' in anything at all? How do we know that this god, if it existed, wouldn't throw people into 'hell' simply for refusing to use the head on their shoulders? Maybe this god, if it exists, doesn't want any of us humans to take anything to be 'True' based upon insufficient evidence?!!
Love Tracie...she's amazing and so dang intelligent.
'That's very interesting ' that's what you say when you're only thinking about what you're going to say rather than listening to what is being said.
Tracie has an awesome talent to listen and understand where/how/why the callers are coming from. She really does listen with empathy towards the mental ability of the caller. I love how she approaches the conversations. Gr8! Peace ☮💜
