I personally prefer the Davinci way, because the re-linking linking technique is not limited to just the 2 channels & can also include additional video tracks as well. For Finalcut one would have to use/learn a different technique to achieve the same type of result as I just descibed.

Hey Bill! Hope all is well!
Having made the switch over to Davinci (probably for good 99% of the time) it is taking some adjustment learning how to edit the way Davinci wants me to edit. The linking is something I have to be aware of as FCPX pretty much did it automatically for you when its over the parent clip, which can be switched easily with two clicks if you want to link it elsewhere.
My best observation so far is Davinci is for an editor that follows a very linear path on video creation (A roll first, then b-roll, then text etc). FCPX is for the ADHD editor (like me) who will bounce around all over the timeline and complete small sections at a time haha.
I am loving Davinci though. Fusion is where I am massively trying to wrap my head around. I sort get it, but I'm still not familiar with all the nodes I can use to get the effect or animation I want.

In Davinci, you can just right click on the track where it writes: "audio 1". Select "convert to linked group" and then process the left and right channels separately 😊

Well dang that's very quick to split the track and get work on it! The only thing I noticed is it does not create a Second Audio channel for me to work with in Fairlight on the mixer. Can't seem to find a setting for my main mix to then dual-mono all signals coming through.
The only thing I found was to go into my Pan settings for the Audio Track and eliminate the stereo spread so that it becomes dual mono. Is that how you do it after you're done processing each track?
