3 years later and I still can't believe that I was there in hot springs flying with my cousin just 1 week before all of you guys flew in. Your videos never get old even after I've watched them a few times.
I love how there’s just so many airports and landing strips you guys can land on when the weather gets bad. Brilliant also how Scott was not only able to get his exhaust fixed, but upgraded too! You lads are so lucky to be part of such a big, friendly & helpful flying fraternity in the US! A lot of countries simply aren’t geared up to having such an abundance of awesome facilities and services on the ground. Cheers for another glimpse into your world Trent!
Trent, just a suggestion, for us non US residents (Australians) that love your adventure, could you please put a large map of America with marking of your journey for us to better understand and appreciate your adventure, that would be great and thank you. As always all the best to you and your team
atmm89 great suggestion, mate! I also follow some sailing channels and they do a great job highlighting the sailing routes in their vlogs. Would be cool to see without opening google maps or the likes, so we can follow along.
Binge watching my pal today... this was actually a pretty fun day! The adventures are just getting started! And now I’ll be trying to catch up to you! Yeeehaw! 💥👍🤠
Trent, thank you so much for taking us along with the Cowboys on your Adventure to and fro Oshkosh. Your Sir gave us that were unable to attend an adventure by just watching your videos. Thanks again and as always, look forward to more videos. Glad you all made it home safely.
I use to work the line at my local airport when I was working on my Private License. We had an old hanger that had doors that opened on tracks like this one.
I used to live just outside Casper Wyo and windy is an understatement. Anyways love your videos. Also the CAP plane in the back ground during the bit you sheltered from the wind brings back memories of my first flights as a CAP cadet.
Trent, I only just discovered your channel last week and spent all weekend binge watching, all I can say is WOW! I was a fan of aviation in general (as in parking near my local airport here in Cork City, Republic of Ireland, to watch A320's and 737's come and go) but you've opened my eyes to a type of flying I never even new existed. Thank you! Flying in groups with your friends and taking timeouts on sandbars?!.. You are a prime example of living the dream, and much deserved. You've inspired me to inquire about taking an introductory flying lesson, thank you so much.
ADS-B is so nice for days like this. You can see that nasty nasty weather, see where it is and see where it isn't. So sorry the weather was kicking your tails today.
Even your bad days are epic. Following your journey from Sydney Australia -gotta say man -you guys are really inspirational. Left flying when my kids were born, and just about to get back into it after a quarter century break. THIS right here is what I want to do. Low & Slow with a bunch of good mates. What a great trip.
Nice WWII hanger at the end, but surprised to see it in Wyoming. Trent, if you want to see the most AMAZING hanger in the US today, take a little flight up to the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, OR. It's a maritime patrol blimp hanger from WWII and is the largest wood frame building in the world.
Ol-Man-Duffy J, Never heard of this stunt, but now that I think about it, it's entirely possible to do it with the giant doors open at both ends. There's no stunt a hot pilot won't think of if it's possible, like looping the Golden Gate Bridge.
Hs Hs , lived in Casper most of my life and it's a great air Force training bace. The crosswinds are used for take off/landings in high wind and back in WWII was a sub airport (Casper airport)and what is now town Bar Nunn was a military airstrip back in those days when it was a airstrip.
Even on the way back home the adventure continues, these kind of things are stressfull and sap your energy, that looked like mean weather, loved that old bomber hangar it was full of character, your videos really make us all feel as we are there with you Trent sharing the ups and down.
absolute incredible ! And I call that guy in coveralls the Crazy Mexican. Loved him at Oskosh ! I seen him doing a lot of touch and gos with his kid in the back !!!!!
I'm in Casper it's cool that someone on youtube finally came here. They use to train bomber crews out there. The museum near the airport is pretty awesome to check out those guys know a lot about the airport in ww2
Guy in the classic coveralls with the grease stains that indicate authenticity reminds me of my late uncle Roy Sprague. His name is on the Chipmunk in the Smithsonian. He flew in Art Scholl's airshow, the first to fly behind the Iron Curtain. Some of my best memories of Roy have him coming from from his A&P gig at Flabob Airport, looking pretty much like your compatriot there, but with less hair. Great sense of humor. WWII sailor on the Carrier Petrov Bay, fought through many campaigns as a catapult operator (slingshot sailor) with a 40MM Bofors as his battle station. He took part in the downing of many Kamikaze pilots out in the Pacific. I thought they didn't make guys like him anymore, but, at least as far as the aviation part of it is concerned, you guys are persuading me otherwise.
Fog is normal with the weather there. I live in Rapid City South Dakota and my grandpa used to have a big ranch and farm and now has a shall farm and has a great plane don’t know what it is any more he got a new one just a few years ago haven’t flown with him in a long time. And I am in hot springs fishing all the time and the clouds around there and the hills are always like that. I feel so bad I ended up leaving the hills for two weeks and that’s when you came over. Sorry for the novel!!
Awesome video! I’m very familiar with your route in South Dakota. Flown it many times! Also went to Oshkosh, but drove and camped this year. Best wishes.
How do you always find a hangar to stick your airplanes in? Every time I need to spend the night somewhere I get the 'oh yeah there's no space available, you'll have to tie down out on the ramp'
Dude this show pop up on my UA-cam 1 week ago and im already enrolled in Flight School a week later lol i cant get enough of this keep the video coming could u say more of miles u have traveled over all and at each stop.FL support checking in
Hi Trent, a great video for several reasons. I just loved the time lapse photography of the weather clouds and storms. Brilliant.!!! Also another super example of patience and cautious actions re getting home. Many a dead pilot had gethomeitis. GET HOME ITIS kills. If in doubt don't. Tommorrow is another day. Safe flying dudes!!!
SO!!! I've just found The Flying Cowboys a week ago! I would like to thank you all!! Even though I may or may not ever own an Airplane! I'm so Glad That if I did, I live in a Country That let's Us Fly Mostly anywhere! God Bless You All!! And GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
I am having trouble with a 912 UL on a Eurofox. Excessive vibes has caused exhaust failure recently, and there is rough running similar to unbalanced carbs. We think it’s worn engine mounts causing the carb floats to vibrate causing excess fuelling.
You need to get +Reed Timmer or another meteorologist to see 6:55. That thing looks pre-tornadic - classic buildup you caught on camera. That wall cloud at 6:59!
Hey Trent! The To and From Oshkosh videos have been awesome! I love that your style isn't about you necessarily, but about the adventure and those along for the ride. Have you considered doing a history of your Kitfox video? Where it came from, how it was built, origin of the color scheme, etc...! Keep up the good work!
3 things you travel with: Wire, pliers and a can of baked beans. When the exhaust blows you eat the beans and bind the can over the exhaust with the wire and pliers. Very nice vlog, thanks for sharing your journey. Best regards to all you pilots, Duncan, South Africa :-)
FloridaFlying I thought you needed landowner permission to land off airport. I’ve been wondering about this. What are the actual laws and do they vary by state?
Jason Carter I’m sure there are areas where you need permission but there’s also a lot of public land where you don’t. And also landing because of weather can be considered an emergency landing. Hot air balloon pilots try not to land on private property but they often have to. Pretty much all hot air balloon landings can be considered an emergency landing haha
I figure there's got to be more going on that we're not seeing (ie conversations after landing with an initially exacerbated landowner or significant prep work ahead of time). I'd love to see a video on that stuff. Doesn't have to be all the time, just a couple insigntful videos. Obviously you can't shove a camera in someone's face when you're accidentally landing in their field and trying to get on their good side but knowing the full story would be very educational.
My sketchiest landing and takeoff ever were in Casper. When I lived in Colorado Springs I flew up there a few times and it is crazy windy. If you’re heavy, Casper Mountain makes things interesting if you’re headed south. Glad you guys were able to get the planes under cover for the weather in Pierre and Casper.
Hi Trent, I also had the exhaust pipe break on N2280j KF4. The new one which I think I ordered from Kitfox AC came with a bracket welded between from the pipe to the side of the exhaust. No problems for the next 5 years and 500 hours. I also balanced the carbs so vibration was minimal. Also Trent, Pierre SD is pronounced PEER SD 😀. Sorry I missed you at OSH. Plans changed at the last minute when my son’s Professional Development soccer team won their Southern regional championship requiring us to travel to PHL for the National playoffs. See ya next year!
Great Videos. Monster fire up close to my home in Redding. Hopefully the smoke doesn’t slow you guys down much more. Fire stayed away from your playground out bye Red Bluff. Keep up the awesome videos.
Even getting that smoke here in Colorado. Thought maybe there was a fire locally, but only small fires in Colorado atm (been getting a lot of wet thunderstorms the last week & a half).
Hi, guys, Trent your video's, as always Rock Solid!!!, Scott absolutely Love your classic j-5 paint scheme...., As stated by Cory, back to video bingeing...
Yeah I was watching a lightning website for a friend who lives out in the States, he was telling me a lot of storms out there and website did show a lot. Fly safe you guys. From UK.
Wasn't able to go to Oshkosh this year because my 2015 Piper Super Cub was stolen a week and a half before Oshkosh in Texas and I finally got it track down and got it recovered all the way in Florida minus all my mgl Avionics
New to your channel, makes me want to get back into flying, havn't flown in 20 years since I sold my Archer II, those puddle jumpers look like the ticket, Mexico here we come., that plane need a Baja trip.............
Well crap I have so much family there in olricks 20 minutes south and in Hot Springs And Martin. I wish I would have know you were there and I would have come to meet you.
I know you know how lucky you are to do this but I wanted to say you guys are so lucky,,,,,, wish I was buds w you guys and was just a fly boy like you all. “ FLY BOYS “
Sorry Wyoming beat you guys up so much. I live in Casper and those hail storms we just had were pretty intense, but I know that hanger you all were in, and it’s pretty cool.
Trent, I just want to say; I love your intro, and look forward to it every time I see a notification! Your videos are awesome, and I cant wait to see more. Also, you're likely going to make me buy a Kitfox at this rate, lol. Fly safe man.
Hi Trent! Just found your channel, and I’m already addicted.😎 Tire tip: I use Devcon 80 2-part urethane rubber to repair dings in my rubber tracksteer tracks. Quite strong and adheres well. When you get a small bare tread showing, a thin patch of the Devcon would give you a few more landings. How did the retread in Idaho come out?
Enough vibration to start breaking parts can often find it's genesis in an internal balance issue. That screams rotational inequality. I build high HP auto/marine engines (mostly V8) with a friend at his shop in my retirement...but I'm not familiar with what steps the builder took while balancing the rotating mass in that particular powerplant. We don't see many Rotax/Lyco's etc...lol! When I balance and "blueprint"(simply the memorialization of my very detailed specs) a V8, it's done specifically to eliminate any possible disparity of that mass at high RPM. Also, IF the block was not aligned and squared relative to the crankshaft from the machine shop...that can also lead to some rather difficult to pinpoint(due to no obvious and outwardly measurable) deformation. The reason is that the engine WILL run....but as clearances open shortly after break-in the owner may start noticing a hard to find "harmonic"...Good luck...hopefully it IS just a carb balance issue!
way more stuff to go wrong , take in the equation the gear box that is not axial to the crank shaft, doubles carburetors , so like Turning Short final said it is quit different and harder to diagnose.
Agreed. Something is not right. He just had a new exhaust put on during the trip to Oshkosh. Scott's engine is not working correctly... Engine mount, camshaft, or something else is causing too much vibration....
the Rotax is a high rpm engine and the sheer fact that the propeller gear box axis is not in ling with the crank shaft ( witch is press fit to begin with)is a harder to diagnostic a balance issue compare to general aviation ( lycoming or continental ) single axis ( single forge and machine crank shaft) so removing the prop's assembly and starting with the motor and gear box is already a task on itself, not to mention the dull carburetors that could be un-synchronize .
As an A&P mechanic with dual carburetor set up on the Rotax if the carburetors are synced will cause a bad vibration and wear the engine and exhaust more the Rotax is very sensitive to out of sync carbs
using good judgment as related to weather is the sign of good pilots! Good call waiting it out. What are you going to do when you return home??? Work??? Ahhhh
3 years later and I still can't believe that I was there in hot springs flying with my cousin just 1 week before all of you guys flew in. Your videos never get old even after I've watched them a few times.

atmm89 great suggestion, mate! I also follow some sailing channels and they do a great job highlighting the sailing routes in their vlogs. Would be cool to see without opening google maps or the likes, so we can follow along.
Start in Wisconsin and head west to Minnesota, Pierr South Dakota, Wyoming, probably Idaho than South West to Reno, Nevada.
Northern part of the US.
If I would have known you were in Tracy, MN I would have helped you out! I am close and have done touch and goes there.
Dodge Viper I was thinking about looking up some sailing video accounts. Any suggestions?
Im australian - is there a light sport aircraft licence equivalent in AUS to fly these or do I need to get a full ppl
The South Dakota Badlands are quite majestic! A perfect place to land!
Trent, you my friend encountered a unicorn of storms, a Supercell thunderstorm with all it's naughty bits showing! Beautiful!
Binge watching my pal today... this was actually a pretty fun day!
The adventures are just getting started! And now I’ll be trying to catch up to you!
Yeeehaw! 💥👍🤠
What do the landowners think when you land in their fields?
Hi from Australia. Professional quality video. Well done.
Trent, thank you so much for taking us along with the Cowboys on your Adventure to and fro Oshkosh. Your Sir gave us that were unable to attend an adventure by just watching your videos. Thanks again and as always, look forward to more videos. Glad you all made it home safely.
Good call. Don't fly on bad weather and when you're tired.
Another great video of Bushlife experiences when you’re going cross country. I love the drone footage when you guys drop into a random field.
It’s an adventure. You’ll look back at years from now and be glad you made the trip. Cool to watch. Keep them coming. Fly safe.

Maybe they will let a second plane fly through it! Don’t forget the CHEESE while there! 👍🏼
It is a cool place
We had a great visit to that hangar last year...cool little museum inside....then visited the Tillamook factory for grinds
Ol-Man-Duffy J, Never heard of this stunt, but now that I think about it, it's entirely possible to do it with the giant doors open at both ends. There's no stunt a hot pilot won't think of if it's possible, like looping the Golden Gate Bridge.

I’ve enjoyed the Low and Slow Series and seeing you guys at Oshkosh! Keep them coming.
Total bummer on the bad luck, but with out the lows you couldn't truly enjoy the highs. Glad everyone is ok.
Wow that's some awesome scenery !

This is what living the dream looks like.
What are the reactions of land owners, when you land on their property without permission.

Enjoy watching your videos!
9:28 that CAP Plane in the background, lol
Awesome video! I’m very familiar with your route in South Dakota. Flown it many times! Also went to Oshkosh, but drove and camped this year. Best wishes.
Ole casper Wyoming, gotta stop in for the flavored popcorn and the Atlantic ladies are a blast
We got hit by that weather here in MN yesterday too. Hope today's flying was better!

Omg at 6:53. That is amazing! Love it Trent keep up the great videos!!
Another awesome video, many thanks for all your video's. may you have blue sky's and tail winds.
Great video!! Also loved the time lapse. Really enjoy your work here.
Thanks for the great video of western South Dakota!

Loving these regular posts Trent! Best Light GA youtuber going right now!!!
Like your good judgement on staying on the ground in bad flying conditions. Good flick.
6:48 wow! Nice grab
SO!!! I've just found The Flying Cowboys a week ago!
I would like to thank you all!!
Even though I may or may not ever own an Airplane!
I'm so Glad That if I did, I live in a Country That let's Us

You need to swing through Billings Mt Have some land you could land on and its beautiful country!
Hey Trent! The To and From Oshkosh videos have been awesome! I love that your style isn't about you necessarily, but about the adventure and those along for the ride. Have you considered doing a history of your Kitfox video? Where it came from, how it was built, origin of the color scheme, etc...! Keep up the good work!
That's "low and slow", always a new and unique challenges.
3 things you travel with: Wire, pliers and a can of baked beans.
When the exhaust blows you eat the beans and bind the can over the exhaust with the wire and pliers.
Very nice vlog, thanks for sharing your journey.
Best regards to all you pilots,
Duncan, South Africa :-)
Whatttt ! No Duct tape, zip-ties and some drywall screws ! No way you will be allowed to fly low & slow in America ;)
What a great adventure, really love these videos. Keep up the fantastic work Trent.
Keep the videos coming. Love them.
Great footage, nice video. Its fun to watch you guys.
Been on a mission watching all your videos...keep them coming! 👍
So awesome that you can just land if the weather gets bad. We are so lucky to be able to fly like that here in the US
FloridaFlying I thought you needed landowner permission to land off airport. I’ve been wondering about this. What are the actual laws and do they vary by state?

Obviously you can't shove a camera in someone's face when you're accidentally landing in their field and trying to get on their good side but knowing the full story would be very educational.
Same for sail planes. Often some crops are damaged... that's why one carries money. ;^)
@Trent Palmer How about an update concering your tires? They looked quite good in the last picture :-)
Doesn't need an own video as has one about tires. But an update on the wear is always interesting.
It would be really great if you would do a video explaining how you guys scout out these landing spots!
Ridin' with the boys. Few things in life are better.
Great Videos. Monster fire up close to my home in Redding. Hopefully the smoke doesn’t slow you guys down much more. Fire stayed away from your playground out bye Red Bluff. Keep up the awesome videos.
Impressive to have 600+ thumbs up, and zero thumbs down. Speaks to the aviation community just as much as your vids in a way. Keep it up.
Good video, and better luck tomorrow!...
Even getting that smoke here in Colorado. Thought maybe there was a fire locally, but only small fires in Colorado atm (been getting a lot of wet thunderstorms the last week & a half).
awesome video again.. so I am now getting back into flying, searching for a plane.. hope to fly with you guys sometime..
Awesome flying! Thanks for sharing it with us. And I think you mentionned it was your birthday on August 1st. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (Belated)
Sorry we missed you guys when you were in Casper!
Nice CAP Skylane out on the ramp! Better luck tomorrow!
It's a little bit like riding around with your buddies on bikes and stopping for a beverage or something refreshing..lol
Yet another sick video mate!
Hi, guys, Trent your video's, as always Rock Solid!!!, Scott absolutely Love your classic j-5 paint scheme...., As stated by Cory, back to video bingeing...
Speaks to the old aviation adage: Time to Spare, Go by Air.
Yeah I was watching a lightning website for a friend who lives out in the States, he was telling me a lot of storms out there and website did show a lot. Fly safe you guys. From UK.
Dang - lots of challenges! But those are usually the best stories to tell later!

Sorry Wyoming beat you guys up so much. I live in Casper and those hail storms we just had were pretty intense, but I know that hanger you all were in, and it’s pretty cool.
Vibration, then metal hardens, then fatigues, and cracks. Support better, issulate/shock mount, change material.
@7:00 - very nice work
Trent, I just want to say; I love your intro, and look forward to it every time I see a notification! Your videos are awesome, and I cant wait to see more. Also, you're likely going to make me buy a Kitfox at this rate, lol. Fly safe man.
Love your videos, Looking forward to the next one.
Dang Scott! Hope things start coming together for you!
Such a great series....It makes me want to buy a taildragger...low and slow.....
Looked like a rough day flying. Love your videography and editing. 👍
Still better than a good day at work ;)

I can see some farmer scratching his head trying to figure out why he has mysterious tracks in his field that just stop...crop circles be damned :D
It’s only weather... Honestly, these are great aviation vlogs. Seems reminiscent of flying from 20s to maybe early 50s... Nice job.

the Rotax is a high rpm engine and the sheer fact that the propeller gear box axis is not in ling with the crank shaft ( witch is press fit to begin with)is a harder to diagnostic a balance issue compare to general aviation ( lycoming or continental ) single axis ( single forge and machine crank shaft) so removing the prop's assembly and starting with the motor and gear box is already a task on itself, not to mention the dull carburetors that could be un-synchronize .
Work??? Ahhhh
