  • Thanks for watching me take on this bathroom remodel. I convert this bathtub space into a large walk in tile shower as well as expand the size of the bathroom about 2 ft. It's a full bathroom remodel with time lapse! Check out the tools I use below! #BathroomRemodel #TileShower #TimeLapse #BathroomConversion #ZemConstruction

      @AJ-ox8xy 4 роки тому +4

      In the US we have a Quantity/Cost driven economy and general mindset. We prefer to have things cheap and plentiful over the best quality. This is terrible in the long run as all it ends up doing is making things break down faster and nothing really ends up lasting or standing up to the test of time. But like the previous comments have mentioned you get what you pay for.

      @@superduperkid3143 That's not the true reason though. As someone who hired contractors and ended up hating the job, would have gladly paid an extra 30% to have this guy instead. The problem is I couldn't find anyone like this guy. Most of them are just greedy GCs who don't actually do the work and sub it out. They also charge ridiculous amounts already. If you know anything about construction type of job (whether it's remodeling, HVAC, or other home improvement areas), you would know the ridiculously fat the margin in. I have a good friend in HVAC, and he confirms over 50%, and sometimes up to 70-80% of the price you pay for say a new AC is in labor. If you paid $4K for an AC, the AC itself may just cost somewhere around $1.5K and you are paying the guys $2.5K for 3-4 hours of labor. The same thing can go for these remodeling work. These GCs will sub out the tile work for like $500 and pocket the other $800.

      Why would they go with the 80s style ceiling texture again? I guess they wanted to match the rest of the house but still, it would have been fine to do the washroom without it.

    • @fartamplifer
      @fartamplifer 4 роки тому +18

      @@barrellcooper6490 Maybe, but he said the homeowners were excited to see all the different styles and textures. It's like they looked at some home reno magazines and decided to take all the current design trends and throw them together. The subway tile looks off with the design, but that's the owner's choice. @@dottiegriggs6706 There are too many factors in a re-do to give any general price. Get a few contractors - there are some who specialize in kitchen and bath remodels, and get quotes from them. *If they run into structural issues etc after starting, this will raise the costs significantly, so have a buffer in your budget. Also, get in writing exactly what they are doing and supplying (are you buying the tile or are they? Etc.). Compare apples to apples. Your location will also determine costs - NYC vs small town USA. I'm so very proud of you!! I built houses w my x husband (carpenter all his life). We did it all from footer to bringing house up off slab, to roof, to all the inside and outside. Now, I find dating is hard for me cuz most men don't like doing projects and hate that I know so much hahaha. Here's a laugh for you. Guy I dated had old ceiling foam tiles falling down in one big room, with exposed insulation & you could see the underside of roof. So if figured out what I needed him to buy, came up with a plan and told him I'd meet him at his house. I got there before he did. So I jumped on in ripping down ceiling removing all trim etc. I was nearly done when he got to his house. HE FREAKED! He had so many panic attacks.hahaha He was like OMG YOUR LIKE A TORNADO AND NEVER ALLOWED ME TIME TO THINK IT OVER. I told him I think after him not fixing it in 15 years...he had enough "thinking" time.lol I got it all finished out and he has a beautiful wood ceiling in there now but lawdy mercy he was a nervous cat about it. Still good friends but now he knows when I say a project only takes a few hours...that what it really means is at least 1 to 3 days, or more. 🤣 🤣

    Great work and work ethic. I've been following Jeff Thurman but I must say that your work is equal in quality. I came into my skills a little later in life (65-female) so it makes projects a bit more challenging physically. Nevertheless, I still like the results though it takes longer to reach project completion. Thanks for posting this!! You rock dude. Inspired to plug back in.

    as a tile setter by trade, i think this is a case where the customer has money but not common sense. I've seen it so many times where they want to stand out among their friends and neighbours as having the best most modern and expensive bathroom around and think to achieve that they must use many different and unique products. Even designers fall prey to this thinking. What happens is 8 or 9 times out of 10 it just looks busy and causes an eye sore whereas every now and again it really pops. The best advise I give customers is to avoid this thinking and go for something sleek, simple and modern. Never fails to impress.

      Spot on, his clients had questionable style but if they pay for it let them go bananas. The video was really well made and informative so I'll be subscribing but it was hard to give a like on this one because the mishmash of tiles was so unpleasant.

    • @kazzana9013

      Not to my tastes, but I like that the homeowner catered to their own tastes, not for resale or to impress others. Here in New Zealand we have developed such a generic design mentally incase of selling, so most end up with a color scheme that is so similar to everyone else. I detest subway tiles, as they remind me of the old hospital and public toilet bathrooms that were around when I was a kid, but apart from that, I did not find the tile choices too jarring.

      Actually 5, the floor in the room 1, the floor in the shower 2, the tile on the shower wall 3, the subway tile on the outside of the shower 4, and the skinny tiles in the shampoo alcove and under the subway tile 5.
      Maybe it was leftovers from other jobs IDK. Further proof that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. LoL. As long as they are happy. I like the pebble floor. Great workmanship.
