I first watched this 2 years ago and i felt so sad for him, his honest frank and obviously painful look back over his life is very emotional. He was the most talented gifted man who had the voice of a angel , and looks to die for, he could play ant instrument and wrote many amazing songs.
I feel so sad that he had a tormented life and had resorted to drinking to take the pain away, he did not deserve to die so young and i miss him every day . He was such a wonderful kind soul with so much respect for everyone.

He was the cutest thing that had ever graced television and his smile melted mine and tens of thousands of other young girls' hearts. I am so glad that he found his peace before his death. What a graceful, honest man. I'm so sorry there was so much pain in his life. I love old fashion people, they are getting rarer and rarer. This was a true true legend, a guy you can look at these old photos and see the old fashion clothes that if you were a kid growing up in the 70s you'd understand. But this is one of the last of the old style guys, from days of times that will never be again. But to David Cassidy I'm so sorry for you buddy, I lost 2 of my best friends within 6 months of each other because of Alcohol. Thank you for being an honest old fashioned spirit. You are in Heaven now, I pray god has you with my old buddies. You were and always will be someone I have always loved and watching this I have more admiration for you than I can ever explain. I saw this interview for the first time Mid or late October 2015 while I was sharing a dorm for a few days with little other to do than watch old movies or sit-coms on my android tablet and I happened to come across and watch this interview and it was so heartbreaking . I have not gotten over it yet. And as I said in a previous post, there are pother problems in the world . David Cassidy is just another celeberty who is dealing with a fall from early stardom . As his own stepmother said, he is a troubled man. There are so many troubled people on the planet, yet I am hoping that David Cassidy pulls through. He would be an inspiration for others dealing with alcoholism.
Not everyone likes, or liked him. The same with every individual. I for one find it very sad that apparently he may have inherited the bi- polar issues of his father and/or the dementia issues of his biological mother.
I don't know. It looks like he may not have much more to go in this world.

It's ironic that the person he represented in the TV series, Bill Cowsill, had an abusive father (emotionally and physically) and met his end in his 50's from drug and alcohol abuse. By the time he tried to clean up, it was too late.

I think were cursed by generational passing down of pain from all the pain that took place in Ireland over the centuries like the potato famines, being treated like garbage by the the English along with the Catholic church keeping people down and subservient and abused. I think alcohol was a way to numb the pain of people who can't be bothered with your feelings because survival is at stake.
I watch a lot of Dr. Gabor Mate's videos on addiction and childhood trauma and or abuse and his take is basically people trying to numb the pain from that and it comes in all different forms not just drugs and alcohol but shopping, sex, internet, tv, food etc.
My parents had serious issues and so di their parents and I'm sure the ones before them as well and alcohol was the easiest substance to numb that pain out.

He wanted to share even the part if himself in recovery from spiritual isolation and the moment of truth when he felt reunion with spirit. He then wished this for the millions of people with similar issues. I felt this last little ray of light most profoundly. It also showed me a different view of his life. One of sacrifice. He was raised by his Christian grandparents and went to church. He was always the little man being strong for first his struggling parents and their broken marriage, then as a teen crush for millions of girls, then as a tool for his managers and their exploitation of his name and image for little return, his loss of his true identity and control of it, his constant unselfishness, lead him in the end to alcohol to de-stress and it ultimately was part of his demise. he did plenty of interrupting, but to a degree, it's his job,and he got a good interview out of it. for us the viewers.DC has gained so much personal humility ,he understands that it really isn't all about him.it's a show. I write this just after he passed away. he was my 'little' sister's girlhood pop fave back in those early 70's but I thought he and Danny Bonaduce had a decent comic rapport that may not have even been expected, since for the most part Cassidy was a musical personality. but I write this after his death a couple days ago, and I hope he went to a better place, as he sincerely worked to improve himself as a human being. it's sad seeing this because I wasn't really aware of his personal addiction w/ booze or his personal life at all, (except that his Dad was Jack Cassidy) until reading his obit, and now I see what progress he made by the time of this fairly recent show, and ,well, it's just sad. I get the impression tho, that he'd rather we celebrate his sobriety and be inspired by it, than dwell on the sad stuff .you done good, David. rest easy.

David Cassidy made a huge contribution to the Pop culture of the 70s. Excellent, well produced and well delivered songs that sold in their millions not only because they were very good but because he was very very good. You don't create a global music phenomenon with sell out stadium tours and a big selling albums for a decade by being second rate. His battle with alcoholism is well documented and addressed in this absorbing interview but also reveals his work ethic and his initial desire to succeed in acting although his career eventually took him in another direction. Which is revealing in itself as he was an actor who then found world success as a recording and live music artist.
Over the years you get well known artists who want to find a success as actors and visa versa
but rarely is this achieved, well David Cassidy actually achieved both.
In a perfect world another interview of this calibre talking solely about his music career retrospectively would have been fascinating.

I am a lucky guy here because I happen to like both Piers Morgan and David Cassidy.
I totally commend David for being so honest and outspoken. It shows his true character. Learn to live with your virtues and with your vices, even if it means opening up to other people. Maybe he even helps other people by giving his warning.
So David trusts in us understanding and accepting his vice. Should or shouldn't we? That is a no-brainer to me.
An alcoholic is (much) more than his alcoholism; particularly if he has succesfully sworn off drinking. 'David Cassidy' is the sum of everything he ever did, and everything he will ever do. It is a shame that alcoholism got into that equation. But even if it did, there is much more that will take care of a positive result.

I love that Piers allowed David to explain everything, rather than leaving it up to the media to conclude David's circumstances. I also read a lot of the comments here, and am so happy that there aren't judgements on David. Some of what people have said about David on other sites, makes me so angry, because celebrities are people too. If any of us started drinking, you wouldn't see it plastered all over the internet, and especially the DUI's. Oh, and his financial problems, one woman said, "Then get a job and pay your bills." It's not as easy as that. You imagine how much he would need? So what? Get a job at McDonalds? It must be a lot harder for performers to survive all that fame, being in the spotlight constantly, and not to mention personal problems, and stay sane. At least David is still alive and trying. God bless you David, I hope you achieve TOTAL success!! Too bad he won't read any of this. He should go online, just to see how many of his fans support him. I signed the petition too. He deserves it not because I like him & enjoyed his show & music, if a little late because he was about a decade before my time as far as being one of his screaming fans, but because watching reruns of his "Partridge" show as well as other video footage of his concerts & performances show that he was a talented musician and a natural singer with a unique voice that was sweet to the ears. As a musician I believe he was definitely under rated never getting the respect he deserved. As an actor I think probably the same as he was typecast as the happy go lucky handsone teenager who made young girls swoon & scream with his singing and looks. I saw some dramatic performances in other shows that were pretty decent. At least one of them was even before his "Partridge " days. So I hope fans can get him into the Rock ,& Roll Hall of Fame. Even posthomously that would get him back some of the respect he was denied, but deserved for his talents. As for his personality, he seemed to be a sweet principled guy in so far as treating others with kindness & respect. That says a lot about him & makes me like him & appreciate his music even more. A special, unique guy. Sad for him that he had a rocky relationship with his father who definitely had his own issues ! His messed up father treated David badly...lots of emotional / verbal abuse & maybe even some physica abuse at least when he was a youngster. This had to have led to his drinking which turned into a serious addiction. Too bad he seemed like a good soul with a lot of natural talent that should have had a happier life than he did. I hope he found peace beyond this world because here on earth, oh how our screwed up parents can screw us up ! Always a fan of his music, his voice & his gentle spirit. Thank him for giving so many of us a lot of joy with his talent & wishing that he could have had much more joy for himself !

+L Martinez it was only a perception that Elton John disappeared during the 1980s but he had hits in 80, 82, 83, 85 and 87. by the time his 87 hit was out I was surprised he was not dying of AIDS because of so many people dying of it and the perception Elton John disappeared.

      Perhaps so.
But Michael Jackson really drowned out everyone else (for better or worse) for the entire decade of the 80s. It wasn't until the early 90s that MJ began. to have significant problems with record sales and his own publicity since it was then that the whole scenario with child molestation really began to arise, and MJ then became a broken man with a ruined career. You are right that the 80s was the first decade in which AIDS was taking a toll on some well known celebrities and EJ was one of those.

+L Martinez Michael Jackson did not have a ruined career lol. He still managed to outsell his contemporaries despite unprecedented negative press. Dangerous is in the top 20 best selling albums of all time (40mil). History sold 30million. Blood on the Dancefloor is the biggest selling remix collection of all time. If that is a failing career, I'd take it. He was mobbed everywhere he went right up until his death.
