For the life of me, I couldn't understand why family and friends didn't want to be around me when I drank... I thought I was fine. I quit drinking 20 years ago and during that time, my son started drinking, heavily. It opened my eyes as to why people didn't want to be around me. It is totally unbearable to be around my son. Like I was, he's not mean, it's just the sloppiness, staggering, slurred speech, and constant talking about nothing. When I quit, it was because I woke one morning and decided, I’d had enough. I have not had the desire to drink since. My son refuses to go to AA or rehab, so, the best I can hope for is, like me, one day he will wake up and decide he’s had enough. RIP David Cassidy
@@annabelle2ful, on my own. After drinking fairly heavily for 25 years, I just decided it was enough. I wasn't afraid that I would return to it., somehow I knew I wouldn't. The strangest thing of all of it is, that I've never so much as gotten a craving to drink. It bothers me none to be around drinkers, only drunks.
So what do you think of how bartenders/waiters feel about drunk people. Actually not even drunk. Some people are already obnoxious with one drink. Heck some dont drink at all and are like that

This makes me cry ,I got to know him the year after this interview.he had no idea how unwell he was . I miss him so much . He helped his friend Danny get sober then ends up exactly the same with alcohol, he was the nicest man I’ve ever talked to . Xx
It takes a huge person to have the guts to do an interview and humble himself. Speaking as the child of abusive parents, one with perhaps an undiagnosed mental condition, I have great respect for someone who takes responsibility for their actions, no matter at what point in life.
People never talked about the wonderful comic actor he was. He was so funny. His comic timing was so natural. In Partridge Family he just played humour so incredibly well. The pacing, his voice, it was like a character poking fun at himself. He was very talented not too mention so good-looking. He was wonderful. Piers is so annoying but somehow he got a great interview. David is so open. I admire him tremendously. I wish he had had more time being clean. We hear you David. You gave us so much. We wont forget you.
David was a broken man by this point. Please don't criticise Piers- this was a challenging interview. David wasn't sober in my opinion and no one could have handled this interview It's impossible. I think he was drunk and then proceeded to drink himself to death. A very sad ending for anyone!
My husband worked in radio and was asked by his boss to pick David Cassidy up at the airport and go to the hotel to make sure he got settled. My niece was at the age that she adored him. My husband asked him if he would mind saying hello to her. David said certainly he would. My husband brought us to the limo and introduced us to David. He took my niece’s hand and held it and asked her a couple questions about herself. We said goodbye and he kissed her on the cheek. He was the nicest, sweetest and most caring to her. It was amazing. He was so sweet and kind. I don’t care if he could or could not sing or he did any bad things, he was so kind and sweet to my niece I would argue that he was the kindest person to my niece. RIP David. You made my niece’s memories so wonderful. She still has your autograph. Thank you. Bless you.

He didn’t make millions. He made almost nothing from The Partridge Family because he was a kid. Then he never could make it as a star on his own which broke him.
I still listen to his records which I saved up for and bought with my pocket money when I was only 10-11 in 1972-73,what a beautiful beautiful voice he had.

Absolutely , there will never be another David Cassidy . I’m so grateful I was at the right age to be swept up by his magic. Yes it was all hype and manipulation but it truly was a gift to our pre teen and teenage years. David was genuinely talented and naturally gorgeous to look at . Bless him , a little piece of us died when he passed away .

Piers did indeed, he touched on so much that happened that David denied… David cheated on his wife for years … he wasn’t actually very kind to others, perhaps because he wasn’t kind to himself.

His wife Meryl said on a pod cast that he beat her at a party for a politician, in front of others. They didnt want publicity so she didnt go to the hospital. My heart broke when I heard that and maybe she is not telling the truth. Alcoholism destroys so many good things in life.

By all accounts Shirley Jones, David stepmother for the last 56 years; says David was a very quiet sensitive respectful boy and teenager. His father Jack Cassidy was a successful theatrical Emmy winning actor who was very talented but arrogant had little patience for his four sons and above all; was extremely jealous of David's early success. Jack expected perfection from all of his sons and David worked up to 18-19 hour days throughout his years on 'The Partridge Family' and singing career. Shirley's accounts of his days were exactly as he is describing here. I can tell when a celebrity is 'taking the piss' but any co-stars I've ever heard speak of David have nothing but good things to say. That he is very generous loyal and harder on himself than anyone else could be. His father was an alcoholic and David was very affected by it which probably hurtts him the most inflicting the pain on wife Sue and son Beau.
He had a wonderfully clear and tender voice. I listen to his records more now than I did years ago because they are actually so beautifully written, produced and sung. Pure talent greatly missed.
I am 51 years old, and thought David Cassidy was one of the foxiest men I who ever lived. But you know what, David? You are still a foxy man and there is none among us who have not fallen down at one or two points in our lives. We are human and life is hard. Keep fighting, David. Alcoholism is a disease of heritage affecting children even two three generations apart . My grandfathers from both sides were fall down drunks. Mom & Dad warned us of the family trait , never drinkers themselves but Grandad Dixon was like “ your never too drunk until you must hang on to the grass to keep from flying off the Earth “ kinda guy . He was clean and sober from the time my Dad was 12 onward . Grandad Sandy had something happened & one day came home threw all his booze away & never touched a drop again. Almost every grandchild on both sides were heavy drinkers at one time .some luckily quit other died . My brother died of cancer apparently aggravated from decades of hard drinking at 51 years old! It’s a disease that continues to destroy lives
I wish I watched this interview while David Cassidy was alive. I was a fan of his when I was child. I have great memories of him and lots of happiness in those memories. I’m happy to hear him share his spiritual experience, because that is answered prayer to believe he is in heaven with the Lord.
He was just so very handsome in the 1970s, so much talent. I loved him the moment I saw him in 1971. He still has a long way to go on this journey, I hope he gets happy once more.

He was so incredibly cute in his younger days. Even at this age, he is a very handsome man. And so humble. It was so sad to hear him say he would take a bottle of booze to his room and drink by himself and be so lonely. For someone who was globally loved and adored by millions, that's so sad. I wish I could have had a one to one conversation with him over coffee.
David Cassidy and I are the same age. I've been through different difficulties in life than he has, but still know that hell, and dark pit, he spoke of. My prayers and hopes are with him that he can recover from this terrible disease of alcoholism. I think he was terribly brave to speak on TV about it so honestly.
David is very sincere in this interview. He was suffering from major depression on top of drinking alcohol and that's a bad mixture. He also had a lot on his plate. I was hoping things would turn around for David, sadly, that was not to be. He did spread so much love to all for so many year's!!! David was a major talent as an actor, singer, and all he has done in his lifetime. He will always remain in the hearts of his millions of fans around the world He leaves us with many, many awesome memories RIP Sweet Prince!!!

A beautiful man with a beautiful face, famous parents and talent that’s had every opportunity to have everything in life...more than any one of us will ever have in terms of fame and fortune. That being said, he put his pants on one leg at a time like every other human and was somehow vulnerable to the same illnesses. Lord knows why the other elites didn’t share the Alzheimer cure with him. Jealousy perhaps...we may never know. His trouble w alcohol was likely a product of his dementia, since he never got into any trouble until after he was 60 and it’s a shame that wasn’t recognized earlier. Nonetheless, his humility and honesty were always two of his most precious qualities. Pearce is a wonderful interviewer, as he was able to get him to talk about his proudest moment, which was performing at the height of his career in the presence of his parents and grandparents. In all of his MANY interviews, he’d never mentioned that and yet it was a moment so precious to him it was still deeply emotional for him at age 60+.

I listened to a homemade Partridge Family CD on a road trip recently, and was saddened by the fact that David Cassidy was so underrated. His voice was beautiful and the songs were meaningful. Knowing about The Wrecking Crew gave the production even more meaning; he stood out and they didn't have to substitute for HIS talent. What a wonderful man he was.
I loved David Cassidy so much! It makes me so sad to hear all the pain he experienced because of his alcoholism. He was dealt a terrible hand with the genetic predisposition to alcoholism he inherited from his father…a man whose affection he never received but never stopped fighting for…he was so beautiful and talented, the crush of virtually all girls in my generation. I wish he’d been able to enjoy the happiness he brought and continues to bring to so many people through his music and acting !😢

This is a great interview with David Cassidy! The interviewer was very considerate in asking questions in all his life either playing Keith Partridge or as David Cassidy. As a kid, I watched The Partridge Family show. I can remember my older cousin telling me about the show. I was young about 8 ish to know anything on his personal life only the role he played on tv. For me, he was a fantastic actor/ singer. It wasn't until lately listening to interviews online that he is a down to earth guy who I believe is telling his honest story on parts of his life. RIP David we love you for the man who you are inside and out. We all have positive and negative stories in our lives. You are special just like everyone else. Fame doesn't make who you are. You make who you are inside but knowing the positive things you have done with fame last a lifetime to someone else. Many small miracles take place every day even if it is a smile.

David's honesty and attempt in quitting is truly commendable 🙏 I have a Sister who is now 65 which has been an alcoholic all her life beginning in her teenage years who refuses to get help regardless at the family's attempt to encourage her to do so. She too turns into an angry, abusive drunk which has cost her her family and friends to date. She is blessed in the ONE person that never left her side....her only child which struggles in silence 😔 I still hold faith in her getting sober before she leaves this earth 🙏❤🙏

I remember how crazy popular David was in the 70s. In his later years he seemed so angry. Now I know why… I’m so happy for him that he dropped the alcohol and finally became real, honest and magnanimous, before he passed. That must have been an incredible burden to carry and pretend wasn’t there. What a relief for him to finally drop it, and to finally become be real. RIP David.

David was my first heartthrob...I was five 😂 It was on tv as reruns in 1975 and I would rush to my grandma and grandpa's tv and "fight" with my grandpa t watch it..... my papa loved to mess with me saying he had to watch the news but he was just joking around and would watch The Partridge Family with me...good times. I wanted to be Mrs.Cassidy at age five but I was blessed enough to actually get to see him perform in Las Vegas in my late 20's and it was a moment I will always remember and cherish. He was a great performer and I am so sorry he suffered as an alcoholic and everything he went through losing his father, mother, divorces and not being more involved in his daughter's life. Bless him life is very difficult and to be famous and everything be put out for millions to hear and see isn't fair when it's private things that we as a public don't need to know. But I pray he is resting in peace and forgave himself and forgave others for things they did or didn't do in their part in his life.

A friend of my husband’s, who wrote the song for Dave Mason ‘We Just Disagree’ lived above David Cassidy when he was just starting out and was an unknown actor/musician. He said he was a really down to earth, cool guy. My husband and I went to see him many times in concert (even tho I was the big fan) my husband had a blast. He put on a great show. RIP David, you are greatly missed, and loved by many ❤

@@annabelle2ful, on my own. After drinking fairly heavily for 25 years, I just decided it was enough. I wasn't afraid that I would return to it., somehow I knew I wouldn't. The strangest thing of all of it is, that I've never so much as gotten a craving to drink. It bothers me none to be around drinkers, only drunks.
So what do you think of how bartenders/waiters feel about drunk people. Actually not even drunk. Some people are already obnoxious with one drink. Heck some dont drink at all and are like that

This makes me cry ,I got to know him the year after this interview.he had no idea how unwell he was . I miss him so much . He helped his friend Danny get sober then ends up exactly the same with alcohol, he was the nicest man I’ve ever talked to . Xx

It takes a huge person to have the guts to do an interview and humble himself. Speaking as the child of abusive parents, one with perhaps an undiagnosed mental condition, I have great respect for someone who takes responsibility for their actions, no matter at what point in life.

People never talked about the wonderful comic actor he was. He was so funny. His comic timing was so natural. In Partridge Family he just played humour so incredibly well. The pacing, his voice, it was like a character poking fun at himself. He was very talented not too mention so good-looking. He was wonderful. Piers is so annoying but somehow he got a great interview. David is so open. I admire him tremendously. I wish he had had more time being clean. We hear you David. You gave us so much. We wont forget you.

My husband worked in radio and was asked by his boss to pick David Cassidy up at the airport and go to the hotel to make sure he got settled. My niece was at the age that she adored him. My husband asked him if he would mind saying hello to her. David said certainly he would. My husband brought us to the limo and introduced us to David. He took my niece’s hand and held it and asked her a couple questions about herself. We said goodbye and he kissed her on the cheek. He was the nicest, sweetest and most caring to her. It was amazing. He was so sweet and kind. I don’t care if he could or could not sing or he did any bad things, he was so kind and sweet to my niece I would argue that he was the kindest person to my niece. RIP David. You made my niece’s memories so wonderful. She still has your autograph. Thank you. Bless you.

Piers did indeed, he touched on so much that happened that David denied… David cheated on his wife for years … he wasn’t actually very kind to others, perhaps because he wasn’t kind to himself.

His wife Meryl said on a pod cast that he beat her at a party for a politician, in front of others. They didnt want publicity so she didnt go to the hospital. My heart broke when I heard that and maybe she is not telling the truth. Alcoholism destroys so many good things in life.

Being diagnosed with alcohol induced cirrhosis will do it . Drinking is not an option booze almost killed me I’ve been sober 5 years 7 months.
By all accounts Shirley Jones, David stepmother for the last 56 years; says David was a very quiet sensitive respectful boy and teenager. His father Jack Cassidy was a successful theatrical Emmy winning actor who was very talented but arrogant had little patience for his four sons and above all; was extremely jealous of David's early success. Jack expected perfection from all of his sons and David worked up to 18-19 hour days throughout his years on 'The Partridge Family' and singing career. Shirley's accounts of his days were exactly as he is describing here. I can tell when a celebrity is 'taking the piss' but any co-stars I've ever heard speak of David have nothing but good things to say. That he is very generous loyal and harder on himself than anyone else could be. His father was an alcoholic and David was very affected by it which probably hurtts him the most inflicting the pain on wife Sue and son Beau.

My grandfathers from both sides were fall down drunks. Mom & Dad warned us of the family trait , never drinkers themselves but Grandad Dixon was like
“ your never too drunk until you must hang on to the grass to keep from flying off the Earth “ kinda guy .
He was clean and sober from the time my Dad was 12 onward .
Grandad Sandy had something happened & one day came home threw all his booze away & never touched a drop again.
Almost every grandchild on both sides were heavy drinkers at one time .some luckily quit other died .
My brother died of cancer apparently aggravated from decades of hard drinking at
51 years old!

I wish I watched this interview while David Cassidy was alive. I was a fan of his when I was child. I have great memories of him and lots of happiness in those memories. I’m happy to hear him share his spiritual experience, because that is answered prayer to believe he is in heaven with the Lord.

He was so incredibly cute in his younger days. Even at this age, he is a very handsome man. And so humble. It was so sad to hear him say he would take a bottle of booze to his room and drink by himself and be so lonely. For someone who was globally loved and adored by millions, that's so sad. I wish I could have had a one to one conversation with him over coffee.

David is very sincere in this interview. He was suffering from major depression on top of drinking alcohol and that's a bad mixture. He also had a lot on his plate. I was hoping things would turn around for David, sadly, that was not to be. He did spread so much love to all for so many year's!!! David was a major talent as an actor, singer, and all he has done in his lifetime. He will always remain in the hearts of his millions of fans around the world He leaves us with many, many awesome memories RIP Sweet Prince!!!

A beautiful man with a beautiful face, famous parents and talent that’s had every opportunity to have everything in life...more than any one of us will ever have in terms of fame and fortune. That being said, he put his pants on one leg at a time like every other human and was somehow vulnerable to the same illnesses. Lord knows why the other elites didn’t share the Alzheimer cure with him. Jealousy perhaps...we may never know.
His trouble w alcohol was likely a product of his dementia, since he never got into any trouble until after he was 60 and it’s a shame that wasn’t recognized earlier.
Nonetheless, his humility and honesty were always two of his most precious qualities.
Pearce is a wonderful interviewer, as he was able to get him to talk about his proudest moment, which was performing at the height of his career in the presence of his parents and grandparents. In all of his MANY interviews, he’d never mentioned that and yet it was a moment so precious to him it was still deeply emotional for him at age 60+.

I listened to a homemade Partridge Family CD on a road trip recently, and was saddened by the fact that David Cassidy was so underrated. His voice was beautiful and the songs were meaningful. Knowing about The Wrecking Crew gave the production even more meaning; he stood out and they didn't have to substitute for HIS talent. What a wonderful man he was.

He was dealt a terrible hand with the genetic predisposition to alcoholism he inherited from his father…a man whose affection he never received but never stopped fighting for…he was so beautiful and talented, the crush of virtually all girls in my generation. I wish he’d been able to enjoy the happiness he brought and continues to bring to so many people through his music and acting !😢

This is a great interview with David Cassidy! The interviewer was very considerate in asking questions in all his life either playing Keith Partridge or as David Cassidy. As a kid, I watched The Partridge Family show. I can remember my older cousin telling me about the show. I was young about
8 ish to know anything on his personal life only the role he played on tv. For me, he was a fantastic actor/ singer. It wasn't until lately listening to interviews online that he is a down to earth guy who I believe is telling his honest story on parts of his life. RIP David we love you for the man who you are inside and out. We all have positive and negative stories in our lives. You are special just like everyone else. Fame doesn't make who you are. You make who you are inside but knowing the positive things you have done with fame last a lifetime to someone else. Many small miracles take place every day even if it is a smile.

David's honesty and attempt in quitting is truly commendable 🙏 I have a Sister who is now 65 which has been an alcoholic all her life beginning in her teenage years who refuses to get help regardless at the family's attempt to encourage her to do so. She too turns into an angry, abusive drunk which has cost her her family and friends to date. She is blessed in the ONE person that never left her side....her only child which struggles in silence 😔 I still hold faith in her getting sober before she leaves this earth 🙏❤🙏

Now I know why… I’m so happy for him that he dropped the alcohol and finally became real, honest and magnanimous, before he passed. David was my first heartthrob...I was five 😂 It was on tv as reruns in 1975 and I would rush to my grandma and grandpa's tv and "fight" with my grandpa t watch it..... my papa loved to mess with me saying he had to watch the news but he was just joking around and would watch The Partridge Family with me...good times. I wanted to be Mrs.Cassidy at age five but I was blessed enough to actually get to see him perform in Las Vegas in my late 20's and it was a moment I will always remember and cherish. He was a great performer and I am so sorry he suffered as an alcoholic and everything he went through losing his father, mother, divorces and not being more involved in his daughter's life. Bless him life is very difficult and to be famous and everything be put out for millions to hear and see isn't fair when it's private things that we as a public don't need to know. But I pray he is resting in peace and forgave himself and forgave others for things they did or didn't do in their part in his life.

Good Lord what an authentic, beautiful man, soberly honest, it's such a tragic that he suffered at the end of his life, clearly he went through a dark night of the soul, something some people will not understand sadly, I hope you're at peace now, fly high sweetheart.
What is there NOT to like about David Cassidy? What a nice, amazingly open and talented man. His musical hero was Jimi Hendrix and Dave used to play tunes like Voodoo Child in his dressing room.
A friend of my husband’s, who wrote the song for Dave Mason ‘We Just Disagree’ lived above David Cassidy when he was just starting out and was an unknown actor/musician. He said he was a really down to earth, cool guy. My husband and I went to see him many times in concert (even tho I was the big fan) my husband had a blast. He put on a great show.

AS a recovering addict myself, I know how hard it is to stay on the right road. It takes work, but is well worth it. I still listen to his music and enjoy it. i wish David all the luck, health and happiness that life has to offer. I thank him also for the gift of his music. God bless. : )

RIP David, I was a child when I started watching the partridge family. I had your posters on my wall as I am sure many girls of that era did. You brought sparkle and light into many lives. I hope you have found the peace and happiness you justly deserved.
