This game wrecked me when I played it as a kid on SNES. I never beat it. It’s oddly satisfying to watch it get destroyed by a speedrunner. It may look easy with Picante playing it ... but this game was so difficult that even in the age of “NES hard”, Nintendo of America thought it was too hard to release. Great run.
n00bfish I never found this game that hard. At least the SNES version, which is a lot more forgiving than the FDS original. The latter I’ve only managed to beat once and it took a lot of effort.
If it wasn't for the 1up trick in world 1-1 I never would have beaten this game. Yes it frustrated me to no end. I know this might sound weird, but there were times I had to think like a programmer in regard to where the hidden exits were. And yes, I beat the game without warping.
I kind of like it when runners make little mistakes or encounter bad RNG during marathon runs, bc they usually go into more details about the game mechanics and back-strats while they recover. And I get to learn more about the game :)
I just noticed in world 1 you save 1 toad, in world 2 you save 2 toads and so on. Given world 6 is a little weird. What happened to those, presumably 6, toads?
I just played these levels for the first time last month. It still took me forever! I would spend at least 25 lives on the -4 levels. Now, I hear that pipe was not the intended way? I practiced that area for so long to make it through there lol!
No. it takes the same amount of time to lower the flag with or without Mario at the top. Edit: I initially had the same thought, and then noticed the one time he didn't make it to the top.

Super late to this but I appreciate all the kind words I'm seeing in the comments. Glad people enjoyed the run.
You are amazing man o7
Swimming to the music ^^

That damn wind used to anger me. :P

@@echorrhea I can confirm this with the Lost Levels version I have on my Wii from the Virtual Console. I believe it has a few more levels as well?
i play this as a kid a lot and i finished it but it takes very long time for me :D
13 minutes into the run and I just noticed the couch fire Mario and Luigi...
I read this and thought, "Couch fire?" Thankfully, no couch fire; it was all in my head.
Took me 30 min, thats kinda surprising
21 minutes in and I saw your comment and then realized haha
9:50 the jump sounds are synchronized with the game's music. nice.
One of my all time proudest gaming moments was beating this as a 15 year old on the GBC version. I died a hell of lot but I still did it.
beating super player mode on the gameboy deserves A LOT of respect.
Those battlements in the background of D-3 will forever be burned in my memory. Spent so long trying to beat that level
Superb, non-intrusive commentary from all three. Excellent run, very well done.
Legit commentary. Good show.
This is one of those videos where I can say "I see myself" Cause im literally right there, front row
me and a friend played this until we beat it, took us around 6 hrs. this game is brutal. bravo for making it look so easy

9:50 That music sync is so satisfying
inb4 mario maker is a rhythm game like geometry dash xd okno i'm joking---
I've played and finished this game on my SNES and emulators a bunch of times. Never knew about level 9. Great run 👍
24:22 Hi Bruce
Fish are friends, not food.
Very impressive speed running skills I must say
My God, he is a super player! I beated the game a few times and it's one of my classic favorites
, it's good to see more people loving SMB2.
Love ya bruce!
First time I beat this game 100% as a kid, I felt like such a badass. It's so much harder than he makes it look.
you actually should be proud that you beat it as a kid, I got like halfway into the game and i gave up lol
His coins going into A-2 was nice
Super mario all stars one of the first and best remasters of all time!
I just noticed in world 1 you save 1 toad, in world 2 you save 2 toads and so on.
Given world 6 is a little weird. What happened to those, presumably 6, toads?
All under the hat! 4 at right, 2 hidden at left
The REAL Super Mario Bros. 2
I just played these levels for the first time last month. It still took me forever! I would spend at least 25 lives on the -4 levels. Now, I hear that pipe was not the intended way? I practiced that area for so long to make it through there lol!
Woot! Good show!
Excellent run!
The REAL Super Mario Bro. 2. I beat it but only with a jump cheat. Some of them joints were rage inducing.
I think this should've been the original SMB 2 you can see it's smb1 and smw mixed. pretty cool
Is there a difference between the all-stars version and the original NES version in terms of how you would handle a speedrun, hit boxes etc?
In 6-1, does anybody else think the background looks like colorful breadsticks?
If i hadn't seen a player there i would have though this is a TAS run.
I had obviously no idea this game was labeled as "super hard" when I beat it as a kid. It was tough, I remember raging a lot lmao.
I'm not a big gamer.. But wouldn't jumping in the lowest possible position on the flag pole (at end of every level) save time?
No. it takes the same amount of time to lower the flag with or without Mario at the top.
Edit: I initially had the same thought, and then noticed the one time he didn't make it to the top.
I just realized that it's Tecate dressed as Luigi hosting. lol
My friend was playing this and I’m apparently a bad luck charm as they only started dieing after I started watching
very good 👍
The 'squids' are called 'Bloopers'
good job
Love the thumbnail..
Why does this look way different then the all stars collectionon o e.
this is the all stars version, this is just a different version, most likely the one with world on it.
that smile 26:16
Im surprised I beat this as a kid😂 no wonder I got good at video games but I don’t play no more but it was fun watching this !
1:55 Why are there octopuseses flying in the air????
bloopers, and mushroom kingdom physics and body structure allow it to breathe in air
Super player
i only got to level 5
14:57 Hit or miss huh...
Wow
So glad he apologized at 28:22. I was so upset
11:30 I'm sorry, as long as you're what now?
"if you're playing on the original FDS console"
FDS being Famicom Disk System.
Is that the line you were referring to?
@@jon9828 I think I put the wrong time stamp. 12:01 is what I mean lol
Ridiculus speed run, two death really?
Habran sido los nervios, pero de equivoco un monton
