  • In this video, I have shown how to test capacitor without using a multimeter. With this method, you can easily identify good or bad electrolytic capacitors.
It is very often the circuit stop working due to a bad capacitor. If you don't have a multimeter to test a capacitor then you can refer to this method. First, you have to check the top portion of an electrolytic capacitor. If you find the top position is flat then the capacitor is in good condition but if the top portion is inflated then you should replace the capacitor. Thus you can identify the good or bad capacitor.
Again this is not an accurate method to test capacitor but if you don't have any multimeter then you can follow this method for testing good or bad capacitor.

Good but you should point out the need to connect neg multimeter probe to neg side of the capacitor, ref white line on the capacitors

Fiend thank you for a good job you are doing! Sometimes may be it possible being capacitor within a good capacitance value but it is damaged because of Ohm is low level in the capacitor. If it is possible, please explain us in which situations we can't say that a capacitor is damaged even though it shows what is written on it.

Most videos I have seen focus mainly on electrolytic capacitors where there are visual signs of a bad capacitor such as the bulge on the top and leaking as well as checking the capacitance and ESR measurements. I would like to know if there are any similar tests for the other types of capacitors such as the polyester, box and ceramic varieties. Does a good capacitance value alone indicate that these other types are good. Are there any tests to check if they are leaking current or any other issues that would cause them to be faulty. Just like how an electrolytic cap may show no visual signs but have a high ESR or low capacitance and be bad.

    I have one question
That is,I chech the capacitor value but that capacitor show the changing value range uf to nf but not show value. This capacitor good or bad

What if the capacitor is physically hit from side, top part looks flat but side is hit inward a bit, does that effect the capacitor?

Is it 100% necessary to remove capacitors from the circuit board in order to test them? Power is disconnect and drained from the board.

Aha, so the method for testing capacitors without a multimeter is using a multimeter?

    • @Yosuru

no, he's just using the multimeter to confirm the theory "bloated = bad" to prove that it is a reliable method.
