    I absolutely love that because Kara once told Lee that she wasn't afraid of death, but feared being forgotten... his last words to her were "Good bye, Kara. You won't be forgotten." So bittersweet. They really were soulmates. ALL the tears!

      @@dreamer2260 I agree! While the characters whom I felt did NOT deserve a happy ending (i.e., Gaius Baltar) got one, characters like Bill Adama, Lee and Galen Tyrell lost everything and everyone they loved. I don't know whether Kara's was a 'happy ending' even though she said it 'felt good' that she'd completed her journey, but I think she deserved to live. Note that Kara crosses her arms and sounds rather sharp when she speaks her final line, the question "And now that you're here?" She only vanishes once Lee confirms that he is inspired to take an active role in shaping the future of humanity rather than remaining passive. He will explore, map, and continue striving to do more with his life.
    I've always felt this really was meant to be a part of her journey as an "angel". That last question wasn't just Kara talking, but something speaking through her - or at least abruptly causing her to know what she needed to ask. And Lee's response confirmed that her task was indeed complete. And the moment it was, she was gone.

    "And now that you're here?" Last words we hear her say. I think about it every few years or so. You can go off by a few degrees each day and in time, you're completely lost: "I'll get there in my career and it's going to be great", "I'll relax once I achieve X or Y". It's easy to drive yourself off a cliff chasing a life made of common sense and good intentions. So, after every little milestone I think of Starbuck.
    "And now that you're here?"

    One of the most moving scenes I've ever experienced, as well as one of the greatest characters. The mysterious aspect of Kara's role as angel and prophet, guiding the human and Cylon races to Earth, from her death and resurrection to her sudden departure in this last scene, balanced well with the progressive revelations that she was indeed meant to lead them there (from the visions she experienced in Caprica to the music within her which held the coordinates to Earth). Bittersweet but great.

  • @randygoggin2012

    What I also loved about them ending with Kara and Lee is that their relationship helped reinforce this whole idea that Kara was always meant for a greater role. She obviously him, but she could never possibly settle into that relationship, because it would've kept her from her ultimate role in guiding the survivors to Earth. So you had this gut-wrenching inability for them to ever live out the love they felt, brought to its conclusion here in these final moments with her role complete.

      Except that she is forgotten. Those few survivors probably didn't live long lives out in the wild, foregoing their technology and medicine. Most were probably dead in a matter of a few years. We saw them walking off in different directions with minimal gear and equipment. Even Hera Agathon died as a young woman as stated in the last few minutes of the finale, (maybe late teens, early 20s?). Everyone that knew Starbuck is gone, and even they are forgotten. 150k years in the future, probably the old ruined cities on the 12 colonies, Kobol, original Earth, etc have decayed and are completely lost in time with no record. All is forgotten and lost, buried in time.

    I don't think this is even a sad ending for Lee. Look at him. He knows. He always knew. He accepted. He will always keep the memory of Kara in his heart til they will meet again "there".
    Until then, he starts his new life - maybe even one that might be filled more with adventure and emotions than his former one? He lost a lot, yes, but in the end, he won and he knows it.
    On the other hand - his father is an entirely different tale.

    This scene was probably "Top 5 of Most Moving Scenes" in the series. It was well thought out and the people who cant see the symbolism and the foreshadowing leading up to this must be very dense. "Angel"; "Harbinger", "Martyr", "symbol of hope". Though all these quotes may conflict with each other they all speak of death and the life after death. Kara's character embodied these traits and in my opinion was the most important character in the series [and no it's not because she led them to earth]

    I know I'm in the minority, but I love how Kara's storyline ended. I love at 2:26, lee moves in closer to her and Kara stops him knowing that it will be too hard to say goodbye, I think, for both of them. So, she changes the subject and then disappears when Lee has that little boy look of I want to explore. It's almost as if Kara is saying, You'll be okay, Lee. I love it!!!!! Kara, you will not be forgotten!

    0:24 - Adama asks Starbuck "What d'ya hear, Starbuck?" and she replies "Nothin' but the rain." When he tells her "Then grab your gun and bring in the cat" I mistakenly thought that meant she was going to forsake her true destiny and stay with Lee. I would have liked that better.

That makes way more sense, I always thought cat was just completely random. Edit: though listening again it does sound like Eddie does say cat. I wonder if it was originally meant to be CAP and it got a bit Chinese whispered at some point. I’ll think of it as CAP from now on.

    I scrolled across a comment about Kara as angel of death, helping bring about the death of human and Cylon races but ultimately bringing an unexpected new race of both converged into one. The way this was done was beautiful. You had these darkly prophetic expectations of Kara Thrace in that scene after they find her Viper and dead body, and it makes you question her resurrected role. But the death she'd actually bring about resulted in a new beginning. Pretty awesome use of the prophetic.

      Bill Adama didn't have long, either. He was left with a heart condition after Boomer shot him and in a few scenes during the series after the shooting you can see him clutch at his chest (when he's really stressed or upset). He also said that he couldn't live without Roslin previously. I had the impression that he knew his heart issues were getting worse and he knew he didn't have long, either. Kara somehow knew that Adm. Adama would die before his son could ever find him to see him again. At least, that was my interpretation of the scene.

    Part 2
    As war broke out in the 13th colony, she was destroyed (in the raptor she finds later on). She never knew her role. Now she was resurected but she was programed to help the 5 and followed them on caprica. Her memory was "wiped out", replaced with them of a childhood she never had. These memories played an important role beacause her creators gave her hints to lead the 5 to the new colony (our earth). They did not want her to intervene if not necessary.

    • @Diah1
      @Diah1 3 роки тому

      I respectfully disagree. Even the cylon/human hybrid (that controls/runs the base star) tells Kara that she will lead humans to their end, not cylons. Her task was to get the remaining humans to safety, which she did when she punched in the numbers on the FTL jump drive during the final battle between humans and cylons (by the singularity). Her viper exploded while chasing a cylon bogie above the gas planet but she was mysteriously transported to the original Earth so that she'd know where it was & could therefore lead the remaining human survivors there. I never got the impression that Kara's fate had anything to do with the Cylons, but everything to do with helping the remainder of humanity survive.

      @@usul573: I think it sucked that Lee had to say goodbye to Kara, not once, but TWICE in the series. I know the writers of the series were probably making a point by illustrating that sometimes the good guys (Bill Adama, Lee, Kara and Galen Tyrell) don't have happy endings while creepy, narcissistic, self-serving jerks like Gaius Baltar often get away with their past crimes and sins, but making Lee say goodbye twice to the woman he truly loved was just wrong, in my opinion. context: Humans evolved on a far away world. They created robots called Cylons. Cylons revolted and a war broke out. There were no winners. The remaining humans fled to a planet called Kobol and started anew there, erasing their history. The Cylons evolved further and learned to grow human bodies for themselves . Then they evolved further and their consciousness exceeded the universe and they became "God".
    Humans keep making new versions of Cylons, and they keep warring with each other at every stop. Kobol, the 12 colonies, Earth-1, Earth-2, etc. The God-level Cylons seek to guide the races towards an end to conflict to work together. At their level of tech, the God-level Cylons can make virtual beings pop into existence anywhere, visible to only 1 person or everyone, and even make them interact with the physical world. The real world is like a virtual reality Matrix to them.
    Kara Thrace crash landed on Earth-1, a desolate planet, and died. The God-level Cylons took her consciousness and elevated her to angel status, then sent her back to Galactica as a guide. Not even she was sure what she was at first. This is the final scene with angel Kara, and she knows what she is and simply vanishes to be of use somewhere else in the universe.
    Note that this echoes the fate of the Original Starbuck in the original 1970s TV series. Starbuck crashed on a desolate planet. He ended up allying with Cylons. This version crashed on a desolate planet and allied with the Cylon God.

      I think he had a clue when Kara told him she had completed her journey; it didn't make sense until immediately after he realized she'd totally vanished. After all these years I'm still not happy with the endings; creepy jerks like Gaius Baltar get their happy endings, while people like Kara, Bill Adama, Lee and Galen Tyrell lost everything they loved or cared about. Sure, the ending was 'poetic' and beautiful, in a sad, depressing way, but in reality the wrong people got the short end of the stick. Just my opinion.

    I know what you mean. And as much as I wish that she and Lee could have lived happily ever after, I'm not sure they could ever have gotten to a place where their relationship could have worked. I think Katee said it really well in one of the conventions when asked about Kara and Lee. "They are soulmates, but that doesn't mean that they're meant to get married and everything to suddenly be perfect." very loosely quoted. :)

      I think he was just tired of all the responsibility. An alternate theory I've seen is that he's supposed to be like a "Moses" figure. He gets to see the "Promised Land" but doesn't get to live there due to his lack of faith during the journey. I dunno, I kind of like the idea of him building Laura's cabin then getting in the last Raptor and flying it into the sun.

      I wrote this on the official vid a while back -I've gone over it a thousand times, and the only kind of compromise I have is viewing it as a symbolic death. Kara vanishes. Roslin dies. Adama flies off to the rest of his life, to live on that hill alone in their cabin that is "Almost heavenly" besides her grave. Lee goes off to explore the planet. Everyone else left alive settles on earth and Lee could potentially see them again. They stood there, on earth together, they achieved their goal, but there is still death and sadness. Somehow it's ok though. That's the main message. Kara promised him that it would be ok and that Lee would love it. He had to let her go. Full circle.

    Sometimes i like to sit and think about life on this planet evolving in a similar fashion. Silly i know. But the thought has always been on my mind even before they did it in BSG. I mean my thoughts never included Cylons just an advance race of people abandoning a dying world in search of a new place to call home. Stargate Universe had an episode that was sorta similar in season 2.

    • @timb7328
      @timb7328 5 років тому

      Ok maybe I am wacky but I always thought the same. I wouldnt be surprised at all if they found evidence on Mars of another advanced race with the tech about the same as ours that knew something terrible was about to happen and put together a few ships and launched them to a volatile world that was just developing life...Earth. those ships would have just been tossed together and not prepared to rebuild cities on earth but just to trying to make it so life would continue. As struggles to eat and make shelter would take so much effort that any kind of advanced unneeded tech would be forgotten and couldnt even be rebuilt without the needed infrastructures......Who knows maybe Kara will appear when we finally land on Mars and tell us of our brothers and sisters fighting to survive on 12 worlds far away...original BSG lore lol

    Sam (each of the 5 could work as a trigger) trigered something in her mind (they programmed a backup system into her so that when something horrible would happen she would bring them back to the 13th colony). That's why she became obssesed with him. My guess is that the tranmission to her resurrection center required a lot of energy that's why the killed herself in the strom, her memories of these paintings are all fake and just a death wish.
