RIP Gillie - The greatest ever Dee! Top Overall Scorer - 169 goals in 190 competitive games. Top Scorer In One Season - 52 goals in 1963/64. Top European Scorer - 9 goals. Top Scorer In One Game - 7 goals against Queen of the South. in 1962. (Record shared with Bert Juliussen) Top Successive Scorer - 7 goals in 7 consecutive games. (January 1st to February 1st 1964) Top Hat-Trick Scorer- 17 hat-tricks. A true Dundee legend in every sense of the word, we may never see his goal scoring like again.
Brilliant player. He grew up in Coupar Angus about 5 miles from where I grew up in Blairgowrie . He's a local legend and for good reason,he was a tremendous footballer. 👏
What a wonderful player he was another great that slips by unrecognised outside the UK but was a star in his time thanks for the thrills you gave us football fans then 👏
R I P Gilly , I used to watch your skills regularly from the stands of Park Lane , legend of the back flick ! Shame that you were taken before you saw the resurgence of the Lilliywhites as an international force 😟
Oi oi fellas ! You change your house , your car , your pants 🤣, even your missus if that works .... but you never change your football Team , shame on you 😉
God bless you Gilly you were a true entertainer and gave me so many wonderful memories of your playing skills and great sense of humour whilst playing the great game. Thank you a thousand times.
My football hero, loved him.Scored 2 for Scotland at Windsor park but northern ireland beat them 3-2. The best day of my football life .Jim Baxter and Dave mckay played that day and I was there.
The chant of "Gilzean Gilzean, born is tne King of White Hart Lane" rang out at every game, and showed how much his great skill and footballing brain were appreciated by the Spurs supporters. He was way ahead of his time (in more ways than one).
A very sad day as yet another great Spur goes on to join celestial Tottenham side. A wonderful man and one of our true greats. Gillie and Greavsie and then Gillie and Big Chiv. Was ever a side so blessed with attacking duos??
Gilzean should have played at Wembley winning the European Cup for Dundee FC. Cologne had 8 West German internationals and Dundee beat them 8-1 on route to meeting cheating AC Milan who had bribed the ref. Disgraceful. Dundee FC were regarded as a better team than the Celtic one that won the European Cup a few years later. A few weeks after the controversial match with many clearly dubious refereeing decisions, the referee was banned for taking bribes from AC Milan. Say no more.

Gilly alongside Jimmy Greaves were the dream partnership

There’s definitely a similar vibe to berbatov different as well but definitely a laid back time on the ball thing
He looks like old Maths teacher but amazing player.
His name was actually pronounced Gillane
