It's very difficult not to live close to your aging parents when they are ok, even more so when they are not well. Prayers for all.
Linda, you look fabulous but if you're not feeling it, SOTF is there with daily exercise, a nutritious diet & engaged fans who wish you the best of health & happiness. Take care! 💖

Happy New Year, Linda! Loved this vlog and the scenery was gorgeous! Thank you! I'm with you, no pills for me! I'm trying to lose about 20 pounds the old-fashioned way as well with a healthy diet and exercise! I, too, believe those diet shots will eventually be found to be not so healthy for people so I would never do that either. You look great and your soup looked delicious! Hope you have a wonderful New Year ahead!

I love these vlogs. Inspiring in many ways. I agree with you about feeling good. It is sooo hard as we get older to feel strong and vital on a daily basis. My passion is yoga and walking. I try to do some every week. Keep sending us posts of any kind. Just feels good.

I started with you on your weight loss journey last year, and decided to keep it going. I'd go down a bit, plateau, then give it a go again. I've dropped 10 kilos (22lbs) overall. Several chronic health problems mean that exercise, unfortunately, cannot be in the mix (I enjoy all your activities vicariously). So it's mainly an avoidance of empty calories and processed food. Those rock sculptures are called "cairns". Happy New Year to you and yours. p.s. Thanks for the soup reminder. I popped a portion of homemade veggie soup out of the freezer, and am having it for lunch. My tip: anything made with chickpeas, lentils, dried beans (curries, chillies, red beans and rice, etc.) is very filling, and only gets better the longer it sits (within reason).

Keep posting these videos--I need the inspiration. I power walk on my three days off from work (15 min. mile/2 miles), but I also walk about 4 miles total each day at work (a strenuous 32-hour/week job, but my second job is glorious--a sedentary proofreading job--rest!). Fiber is important, so the beans you add to the soup is a good thing. I found popcorn to also be a good source of fiber without the calories/carbs. I'm a notorious snacker! I'm 65. It seems the older I get, the harder it is to work out just to keep up with the slowing metabolism. I could have sworn I was twenty-five, like, yesterday.

Having lost 15 lbs of menopausal weight that I gained despite being a healthy eater & physically active before & during menopause, I can honestly say that when I let go of the anxiety around getting older & its set of problems, I let go of the weight. I moderated my exercise (doing about 2/3 of what I did before, maybe even only 1/2). I started sleeping better, although that's a struggle, but sleep is a big part of it. I lift moderate weights 3x a week for about 20-25 minute sessions, do moderate cardio workouts 2-3x a week, and mindful movement. (Tai Chi, yoga. Some days this is only maybe 3 minutes of mindful movement.)
All of my workouts are at home, a big change for me who used to do hourlong workouts 5x a week at a gym.
Also - I don't 'diet'. I just eat, but I eat mindfully. I pay attention to what I eat and I've found that when I do that, I'm less likely to eat out of boredom. The only foods that are off limits are the foods that I don't like. I don't force myself to eat foods I don't enjoy simply because they're healthy. And I've abandoned the 'clean my plate' philosophy I was raised with.

I always look forward to this Vlog after the holidays. The first time I followed it ?4 years ago I lost 11 pounds. I managed to keep it off for 2 years then gained 5 pounds this season. I am a vegetarian so vegetable soup is definitely in my wheelhouse. Your soup looks great. I never stopped my walking routine. My biggest problem is eating out with friends. I always go for what looks good instead of what is good for me. I also snack in the middle of the night. I can't seem to stop doing that. I know I'll be able to shed it soon. I hope your folks are doing OK. I lost both of mine 34 years ago. I still think of those caretaking years with anxiety. I was the only nurse in my family so much was on my plate. Hang in there. Be kind to yourself. 🙏💜

Wow, you're off to a great start with healthy soup (even for breakfast) and long walks up and down the hills in your beautiful area! Good for you! I'm experimenting by eating a big spoon of Kim Chi before each meal, which I'm told feeds the good bacteria in the gut; then, I'm cutting back carbs after eating too many desserts from neighbors over the holidays. Keep up the good work, Linda, and thank you for inspiring us. Happy New Year!

Hi Linda! Happy New Year!! It truly is beautiful where you live. No snow here in the metro Atlanta area where I am (no newsflash about that). This time of year I do a lot of work for clients taking down Christmas Decorations, which means lots of stairs, lots of climbing ladders! So that has been my exercise since the beginning of 2024. I can certainly feel the difference getting up and about doing that work. It’s a good feeling. Your walks are so motivating, so once the “undecorating” is complete, I will get outside and walk!! I’ve cut out most of the bad stuff that was hanging around during Christmas and have been trying to drink more water. I mostly drink water anyway (other than water, I only have 2 cups of coffee daily). I just need to increase how much water I consume. Thank you so much for your honest motivation…it will certainly keep me going! By the way, your hair is so beautiful!

Wow! Your home and surrounding area looks like such a “Healing Place”. Reminds me so much of where I used to live in the Berkshires. That soup looks amazing! You should post a video of the step by step. With cooking….I need the “For Dummies” version. I am going to try intermittent fasting combined with eating more Mediterranean style foods. I love keeping soups and salads on hand because my work hours make cooking a struggle. You are absolutely correct about the weight being more than just a looks issue. At my age..I know I will never be a bikini model….never was. But the extra weight I’m fighting causes so many issues. It not only really hits your self esteem and self worth, it makes me depressed because I cannot do so many things I want to and used to love doing. Thank you for the incentive, Linda…..❤

Linda, you have always been beautiful, and as far as I know, you are one of the healthiest people I know, which is great! And I cannot see 5 extra pounds on you, but I get it. I’ve dropped 15, can’t see that either, but I’m working at it. Lean protein and veggies are the ticket, you’re doing it right with the soup too. A variation on that is add some diced tomatoes in, and some cabbage, if you like it. So good, and filling, replaces the rice or pasta, and changes things up so you do t get bored with the same meals all the time. Also, I try to keep a rotisserie chicken in the fridge a lot of the time - so many healthy quick meals you can make throughout the week with one of those. Or you can of course, roast your own, but with my work hours, buying one is just easier. For you, just avoiding sugar and fried fatty foods and excessive carbs should be enough. Me, I need an act of God, lol! The beans are a good carb, and add protein as well. I walk/run literally 6-10 miles per day at work, but I have to start doing it more on days off. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ But, I’m an old broad, and by the time I get a day off, I can’t get motivated to move. LOL Maybe when the weather improves, I will. 🤷🏻‍♀️It’s a mess up here. Anyway, you are a positive influence. I hope you are well, and your family too. See you on a stage soon!!💖

In Ohio we had a bit of snow about 1 inch or so and then the temp went up and everything melted NO SHOVEL YEAH!! My niece and her hubby went home to California and my Mom and I put all the Christmas stuff away for next year! Have you ever had Lentil soup? Its a German soup which I love and that my Mom makes and besides lentils it has carrots onions
and german spatzle noodles! Yummy on a cold winters day!

This is great, thank you!! Have you tried making your own broth for your soup? Hang on to those veg scraps and keep them in a bag in the freezer until it's full, then toss them in a pot with water and herbs and peppercorns, and you've got a beauty of a veg broth. I save my bones too and make bone broth. Both are lovely to drink warm, and full of nutrition. Your soup looks delicious!

I have been doing the keto since last August when my church started a 21 day fast. I first gave up bread and felt so much better. Now I eat only once per day limit carbs to under 60. dropped 20. made it thru holiday with little sweets (for me this was a miracle) . January we are on a 21day fast again following the Daniel plan. On Wednesday its all day liquid fast till 6pm. starting up a yoga daily routine and getting into the walk thing. I live near Nashville so weather is brrr, which makes the walk a bit more challenging. I like the looks of the soup you made so going to try that. Once you really get into the keto hunger really does not happen. one thing I have now realized is that I eat just because sometimes when not even hungry. clue is to really wait till your stomach tells you its time. another tip weigh at the same time every day with either the same clothes or none(ha ha). 80 years young take my vits, stay away from the medical field and am on no pharma. and thats the way I like it. Looking forward to this journey with y'all
