What's worse is you can tell she is clearly ashamed of what her life has become. She didn't start out that way. Drug addicts are easy targets to patronize and cast stones, but the last thing they need is more condemnation. That's someone's daughter. I hope she overcomes this current situation and gets her life back on track.

Exactly. I'm 34 years clean. No one sits down one day and thinks "You know, I think I'll get addicted to heroin today." Nobody ever plans on becoming an addict. It's overly simple to think that only "weak" people will try drugs. Fentanyl is killing more people than guns and cars. That's a lot of "weak" people. This is a beautiful girl who's spirit has been crushed and yet she still has hope.

@@chesterwilberforce9832 Selfish self-absorbed people do addictive drugs and hurt everybody who loves them along the way. If you didn't know heroin was highly addictive and hard as hell to kick you were a moron before you started killing off brain cells. It's not like an addict caught the disease like Ebola. Their dumb ass was out for a high until it was no longer fun anymore and by then they were hooked. I repeat they did it 💯 to themselves. I feel no pity for that. I'm also full on sick of hearing junkies who get clean wanting to patted on the f-cking back for doing what they should have been doing in the first place. They aren't heroes to be admired or poor suffering martyrs. They are deeply flawed assholes who partied themselves sick.

People told me it was an option. But until I actually made that choice, on my own accord, those people may as well have been speaking a foreign language. Tears me apart to know that I have the answer, but I can't share it with the people who have not found it yet.

You can try to help people in this situation, but it all comes down to that they really have to want to help themselves. I thought i was helping by letting some have a place to stay, etc, but they continued with the alcohol and drugs and are unfortunately dead now. Part of the reason they do not succeed is because they live in the (those with homes) same enviroment, they started in. They need to get away from the neighborhoods that are infested with drugs and dealers. It doesn't help when a liquor store is right on the corner, and dealers close by.

@@Joop5000 For me, it was not so much about getting away from places that had the stuff. The stuff is everywhere. It was about getting away from the people who were using the stuff. It was about learning to re-develop my core mindset and beliefs. That meant leaving every friend I had ever made behind. It was and is still hard. But most of those friends are dead now. None of them made it to thirty. Today (years later) I do associate with the people who happened to get clean during the time that I was ghosting everyone… I would have been dead or doing decades in prison, if I had kept contact with them. And it's not the fault of the people that I had to leave behind. I was me. I had to leave them behind, in order to change my self. Lifestyle change. That's what worked for me.

I have no doubt these relationships are toxic. These guys ( and gals ) are mainly drawn to each other by drugs 1st. and Protection 2nd. From the woman’s standpoint I understand this. I believe if she got clean while he’s in prison ( and it took ) I would hope against hope that he really does love this woman and he got clean too. It would be great for them both. If she wants to stay clean and he can’t hack it, he would desperately try to drag her back into “ The Life” I would hope she’s sees through that and just goes it alone.
