This man is a hero of mine. Fished next to him at the King of Clubs in Ireland in 1994. He battered me, then after told me everything he did and stayed on and fished with me for another 90 mins. A living legend. A true God of Angling.
Nice interview Dennis. I remember fishing a Children in Need fish aid match at Willington on the Trent quite a few years ago now. I drew the peg below you and won my section with 17lbs of Stick caught Roach. I shook hands with Dick Clegg when he presented the prizes. A very memorable day for me to not only beat you on the next peg but to also shake hands with the England manager. I have been out of match fishing now for 10 years but still have all my gear and will be dusting it off and going again next year.
Why has Denis not been knighted.A wonderful bloke still full excitement as a young kid going fishing foe fost time.Brilliant brillant angler who's given so much to so many people.A true all time great and god of the bank.Denis, the world of angling salutes you and god bless you
One of life's true gentlemen, absolute genius and would catch you a fish where you would swear there aren't any. Always got time for a chat, and will always try and answer any question you put to him. Legend.
I am 49 now, but when I was about 10 my family moved to Royston, near Barnsley. Our next door neighbours were Denis White and his wife. He invited my father to go fishing with him, but I ended up going instead. When we got to the water he said "you can be in charge of the maggots - put a few in your mouth to warm them up so they wiggle more." I was horrified. I still chuckle about it nearly 40 years later.
Born in Barnsley, lived out of dick cleggs brothers tackle shop (dave clegg0 on Doncaster road as a kid, family were from Worsbrough. I grew up on worsbrough reservoir fished next to most of the old Barnsley Blacks... I remember Denis battering me fishing caster one day.. happy days.
I do admire Denis's answer about Tom Pickering getting 50 grand for breaking the record in the Embassy Pairs and not sharing that money....but.....if you're in an agreement with your fishing buddy to share your winnings, and especially in a pairs match, then any and all money won on this or any other match should really be shared. I've done it myself during my match fishing days where my fishing buddy and I had an agreement to split any money we won - even if it was a £10 section win or any of us framing. I wouldn't have kept that 50 grand if I had won it, and neither would my mate, and I would have been pissed off if that happened to me if I'm honest 🤷
one of the greats , saw him at edgbaston resa during the old parks festival with the Blacks , quality comment about the carp being blind and mentally ill , I laughed out loud at that , couldn't of put it better myself . commercial fisheries were made to make money out of lazy anglers.
