try hanging leg raises. or hanging knee raises. I had the same issue and those helped me. also doing back extensions to strengthen my lower back muscles helped now I can do the ab exercises I previously couldn't.

Don’t perform this exercise daily. Give the muscles time to recover. Every other day at most.

No matter how hard I try I cannot correct my pelvic tilt and I get back pain during this exercise, other ab exercises I do well.

I think when i was doing it i was going too high up maybe
The range of motion is not that large. Think pelvic bone to rib cagewhile pulling your belly button in.
