Thank you, Alex! We appreciate your generosity, and it’s an honor to get a stamp of approval from a Chicagoan!! (We were only temporary residents 😂) We definitely want to explore more of Chicago’s food scene, it feels like there are an endless amount of things to try!
This is very well done. I have been to Chicago, and think this video does it justice for informational purpose. Good picks. Good reviews. Great content.
Gene and Jude’s isn’t a Chicago Dog, it’s a depression dog. No celery salt, pickle Spear or tomato. Chicago Dog is Mustard , relish, sport peppers, tomato, pickle spear, celery salt, onions. Been going to G&J’s for 40+ yrs.
It is a dog in Chicago, and something you dont see anywhere else. You can get a "Chicago Dog" aka dragged through the garden in Boca Raton, Florida. So this dog is even more representing Chicago.
@@lcheaton1130 has nothing to do with "representing Chicago". Chicago Dog and Depression Dog are two different animals. Gene & Jude's serves Depression dogs. Calling it a Chicago dog is wrong. Chicago dogs have mustard, onion, relish (most neon green), tomato, celery salt, dill pickle spear, sport peppers, and a poppy seed bun. And fries come as a side (though one could argue Superdawg's fries are on the dog, though that's just to limit the size of the box it comes in).
@@lcheaton1130 calling a depression dog, a Chicago dog, would be akin to calling a Gray's papaya, a New York Coney. They are different animals altogether.
Dude before ice cream you showed sign of red hot ranch! Dude you should have poped in there for a burger and dog and a pound of fried shrimp for the table! Best in the city!!!
As noted by someone above, Ricobene's for the breaded steak sandwich, and try the chicken vesuvio sandwich also. Jim's Original for a Maxwell Street Polish and a Pork Chop sandwich. The Golden Steer for French onion soup and Prime Rib. Laschet's Inn for schnitzel or sauerbraten (an acquired taste) or the Saturday night special deep fried pork shank.
I agree with you on the schnitzel. (Though the Brau Haus used to have the best schnitzel til it closed). But Berghoff still has the best sauerbraten. (Even though they went through that weird phase in the early 2000's when the daughter took over the restaurant and completely changed the menu. They are back to serving solid German fare. And their flourless chocolate cake can't be beat. though they used to make the airiest, most flavorful white mousse. Sadly, that was discarded during the avant garde phase.)
It was a lot of fun exploring outside of the main city and trying out places we have never been! So many of the long-standing establishments are in the outer neighborhoods. It was an insane amount of food but such a fun day 😁
Vito and Nick's frozen pizza is really good too!! Obviously not the same as the real thing but nice to always have on hand. Thanks for the post - fun watch.
Had birria at Fred & Jacks on the southside….fire!!! Would love to try other restaurants with them…. And you if you not from the city don’t attempt that u turn 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
At Harold’s you gotta try lemon pepper and mild sauce on Both wings and the fries!! Trust me. Also another place you should try is uncle Remus out west
There was one restaurant in the southside on archer Avenue close to Rockwell. The restaurant is called Tio Luis. That’s a good restaurant Mexican restaurant. Try it and let me know.
Vito and Nick's is the best and I love about as far away from it and still be in the city. The best pizzas are the Italian beef and giardinara and the crispy pepperoni and egg.
Yes, I know that I know where that place is at is not too far away with my dad is about six blocks away where my father is at. I’ve been there a long time ago. Vegas crowded in there.😊
Back in the day we used to call those sweet rolls that you were eating those apricot in the beginning. At least most of the bakeries up there on the north side of Chicago off of Augusta boulevard
If you're ever looking for steak, ditch the city and jaunt out to 111th in Worth. Krapils is the most underrated steakhouse in Chicagoland. (They lost some of the ambiance when they remodeled, but still serving the best steaks.
Yeah, I never heard of his restaurant. It’s in the Northtown pull up in your nearby. I know that area but I know it’s some good Mexican restaurant in the southside.
For me, Gene's & Jude's for depression dogs, and SuperDawg for the authentic Chicago Style Dog. Al's Original for Beef and the original Harold's on the southside for chicken.
Yes, too far away from there. I’m close by midway airport and Chicago so I know rivers and I know the other one bakery store I believe what you’re saying is true.
Red hot ranch has THE BEST double smash burger and hand cut fries. It's a must go! Or not, more for us haha Also Bob-O's on Irving Park Rd near Cumberland is the BOMB! beefs, burgers, dogs, and they have the best fries on planet earth
The Sedona Mexican restaurant is collateral right southside and little village and Longdale 26th and Longdale. I think it’s called Nuevo Leon. I think that’s what it’s called. They got good food there. I think it’s still there. Good Mexican restaurant there if it’s still there.
Well done! Only thing is that Chicago's best Fried chicken in the city is actually at Chicken Shack in Evanston 😎😎 Johnnie's is to Chicago in Elmwood Park as Chicken Shack is in Evanston but this is otherwise a perfect guide for folks wanting the real deal!
There’s a lot of Mexican restaurants that I like here in the southside in Chicago me that Mexican restaurant I like to eat tacos burritos because they’re not the same
I know where it is at Weber’s because I don’t live too far away from there. I live in Chicago and the other bakeries store right down the street. I know it’s at like I said I live in Chicago.
There was a beef joint on Irving park just west of river rd. Was it jays?. This was back in the 80's. I live in Az now so not sure if it is still there. And no deep dish for real chicagoans.
Love me an Italian beef but the one from Johnnie’s I was more than disappointed with, with the line and all the videos I’ve seen man was I excited but it was NOT what I had expected at all not a dipped guy at all I like my bread like bread not soggy and im all for everything else but just very bland and gritty. Want a GREAT Italian beef the gyro house in Rockford or uncle nicks in Rockford are CRAZY good!
Harold’s was VERY disappointing as a fried chicken connoisseur, I’m not far away at all I’m in Rockford IL and we have pizza ranch up here their fried chicken blows this out of the water no sauce needed nothing just a piece of chicken and the CHOMPERS!! Hope all is well with everyone!!
Chicagoans eat deep dish. I mean it’s good but there’s just a lot of good pizza here. Also you can put ketchup on a hotdog- just not when it’s prepared as a Chicago dog because it doesn’t go well with all of the other toppings
I seen it, but I never stopped there. I seen it. I still are not too far away from there like I said I live in Chicago. This is my name Rick yeah I’m not too far away from there.
The ice cream looks good there but seems like I said earlier like the bowl is bigger than what they have inside there and I don’t like the chocolate inside mixed with my ice creamer open and split. I don’t like that.
I do not like Bucktown I never did. I never will. I seen that I know where it’s at not too far with my father lives at. I don’t like to go different restaurants going there. It was a good food or not this way I am. I respect everybody’s opinion, but like I said, I would like to meet you both in person.
A local does not necessarily mean they know the best places. I was in a new city, I asked a local where the best hamburger is, he replied Wendy's. Another, pizza, and he said Hunt bros. Be sure your local guide is a foodie
To Chicago area visitors: the no mustard on a hot dog "rule" is nonsense. Very few places don't also make catsup available.....I'd guess less than 3%. It's an old preference which is continued today mostly for marketing purposes or just to be quirky. I get annoyed every time I hear about it bc it does not reflect reality. It is good to know the few places that don't offer catsup if you are a big catsup fan, altho I think you will survive.
I do not like Chinese food yeah I’ve been there many times driving through, but I just don’t like to look at it. I taste it a long time ago never again I said 40 years ago and never again.😂
Hi good I like it dry, it doesn’t taste good to me. I like it soak dunk. The other telling me that I heard of it is else. I don’t like that one at all.
Gene and Jude’s is not a “Chicago style” it’s a “depression dog”. It uses a different mustard and it’s only that onions and sport peppers. No tomato or pickle.

“Vito and nicks… it doesn’t get anymore classic than this” followed by “I’ve never actually been here” lmaoooo
I'd do horrible things for Vito and Nick's right now
Yep, their best pie is the Italian beef. Crazy good concoction. Never thought I’d like Italian beef and giardinera on a pizza, but it’s the tops.
Cut the guy some slack 😂 he's probably from Batavia or some shit

It's a classic dog, but I grew tired of them years ago. I'm more of a classic Chi Dog now
These places look really local. So authentic to the described content.
Thanks so much for watching! These are definitely special establishments, and just a few of many in the city of Chicago!
I’ve been to Chicago twice. Best food I’ve ever had and I live in Hawaii now and the food here is amazing.
Chicago is a special food city!! Hawaii is hard to beat though 😆
@@MaxandSidney There's an amazing Hawaiian restaurant on the Lower West Side by 21st and Western called Aloha Wagon. Highly recommend.
You did absolutely right by going to Johnnie's for your beef. I recommend getting the combo next time, their sausage is amazing.
Ahh, good to know! Sounds amazing!
Gosh darn you northerners and your johnnies, its all about Al beef on taylor. Lol. Johnnies is okay, but Al's has always been number one for me

I will definitely co-sign on the chicken vesuvio sandwich at Ricobene's I get it all the time. It's delish..
Very cool that you visited different neighborhoods than you did in the last video. A lot of spots I've never heard of!

Yes, it is Weber’s chocolate cake donuts those are delicious. I love those chocolate cake, donuts, and webers.😊😊
Holy Moly!! That was a great food tour!!
So glad you liked it! It was a really fun day, it's hard to believe how many great food spots are in Chicago!
You should’ve gone to Ricobene’s for a breaded steak! 😀

Mild sauce, not hot sauce. You should have talked about the history of Chicago mild sauce. It’s culturally important
👍👍

Thanx for not making it touristy.West Lawn and Southside Catholic League!
So glad you enjoyed it! It was definitely a fun day in the city!
when you go to Harold's you get the hot or better yet the mild Sauce on the chicken and fries! much better experience! way better! lol
Hearing a lot about mild sauce! We’ll have to try it!

They don't use celery salt either. But they do use relish.

you are incorrect, in my opinion
