Hitting is like pitching: You go back before you go forward. Coach Justin talks about this all the time and he's right!

There is a much easier way to do this to generate more power while keeping the front arm bent in approach to the ball. Called Cheek to cheek method. Same thing that you are saying, but more of a timing mechanism and allows more pop with the front arm.. The hips really get through the ball and adds more distance with out trying. I like your description and what you are teaching, great job.

Hi, I dont know of this question has been answered yet but I know a few things!. So, thisll work for all ages mostly.
      1. Running laps.
      2. Pair catching and throwing
      3. Triangle formation of catching and throwing
      4. Throw some challenging balls, and make one by one catch one
      5. Hitting. Get about 20 balls in a bucket and make each player hit all 20. Make the others stand in the field to catch them
      6. Make yourself hit some balls too and make your players play field.
      7. One man for its self mini baseball game
      8. Tips and tricks for hitting, throwing, catching, and guarding the bases.
Me and my team (middleschool) most of these in a 2 hour period. Mix up the activities so they dont get bored.

You made good sense of a very difficult concept to understand. But now I get how the 'lag' in your upper body can really supply that torque. I like the rubber band analogy, but it's a lot less like a rubber band being pulled and more like the rubber bands you twirl to power one of those balsam wood air planes. The coil in your body is firmly rooted in your feet, but when you uncoil, your upper body lags slightly behind so as to unwind in the most physiological fashion.

if you have quick hands or start earlier it doesn’t matter how long your swing is, if you get the timing down you can still have a long swing and still drop bombs

Would putting your front foot out forward and opened toe and arms back and up cause less power? Because one you have some momentum in your hip and and foot while the rest is in your arms. If you are saying we do it symmetrically as one motion then that makes more sense to have the body combined as one movement not separate parts. It's a great video and I have no doubt this has helped many players who struggle with hitting. But in my case I honestly can't find the right stance that I feel like I can generate a lot of power. And I've been playing baseball since I was 5 I used to never have problems hitting until middle school might be confidence issue I don't know but if I bat like Matt Joyce and I am set up as a square then I can hit it somewhat far but the stance in my opinion just doesn't allow me to feel free as Evan longoria's batting stance. I've tried his stance and seen better results but I don't want to look like a poser and my dad always told me that my feet have to stay the same position like symmetrically not one foot further out than the other. Anyway great video again I'm not trying to sound like a critic I'm just expressing my opinion and anyway can disagree or agree on it but great video!

It's really about how the ball rolls off the bat. Baseball isn't that far off from pool, it's about finding out how the ball rolls off the que, so to speak. It's about how much power you put behind your shot. That's why Babe Ruth could figure out where the ball was going. It's all geometry. Where the ball hits, with how much power you swing the bat. Obviously it takes more than pool, because you have a ball hurled towards you at 30 mph, at least.
