Cis-trans notation can be used to describe the configuration of a double bond with exactly two substituents and two hydrogens. If the two substituents are on the same side of the double bond, the configuration of the bond is cis. If the two substituents are on opposite sides of the double bond, the configuration of the bond is trans.

I have had this explained to me before but i can say with certainty that this video is most responsible for making this a concrete idea in my head, THANK YOU!
You guys have the best videos out there. Perfect and on point.
i feel like a boss after this video hhhhhhhhh
Thank you a lot!!! I got an A because of this video- thank you a bunch!!
Did you just assume this chemicals formula?
very simple! thank you so much
Great presentation! Thanks a lot :)
thank you .. this video is really help me 👏👏👍😙
Nice, I think I got it now ! Thank you
In the minute 3:50 the last alkene is not appropriate to use Cis-trans connotation. It is (E) because when you have different groups, we use the pre log ing connotation and is more appropriate for this example.
Yes, I'm confused about that one. Isn't the propyl group is stronger than the ethyl, and the other ethyl is indeed stronger than the methyl. But it seems he's only considering cis to be 2 identical groups on same side.
thanks man!
That’s was so helpful! Thank you Dr 💕
You make chemistry So amazing
So how come if we have a Cl and Br on one side of the DB and and H and Cl on the other side it is called Z??
vera leval
0:29 it’s but 2 ene
both are correct.
2-butene is old iupac pre-revision whilst but-2-ene is post revision
I feel like a chemist after this vid
+Theo Tidiane I don't think so .
lol Ikr!
How do u know if it's ethyl or methyl?
Methyl has only one carbon and three hydrogens, whereas ethyl has two carbons and five hydrogens. Meth means one. Eth means two.
0:40 I think it will be but-2-ene
Doesn’t matter either one works
nic
Wouldnt the first compound be but-2-ene?
its the same
Bad no it’s not, number before word root is used for prefix not for suffix
Cis and trans sounds like SJW talk lol
Any Indians
did you just assume the butene's gender?!
talk quieter, this video is way too loud
