There is no defending the catholic cult. It is based on pagan traditions, hates the Bible and your human leaders claim to have more power than God Himself... talk about blasphemous. But, the Bible says that the dragon will be a dragon and speak as one.
"It is interesting to note how often our Church has availed herself of practices which were in common use among pagans...Thus it is true, in a certain sense, that some Catholic rites and ceremonies are a reproduction of those of pagan creeds...." "The Church did everything it could to stamp out such 'pagan' rites, but had to capitualet and allow the rites to continue with only the name of the local diety changed to some Christian saint's name." -Religious Tradition and Myth. @@CatholicTruthOfficial What is Dispensational Bible Study?
      by Shawn Brasseaux
      BEHOLD THE CONFUSION: RELIGIOUS TRADITION
Have you ever wondered why there is so much confusion and debate among and within “Christian” circles and churches? These professing Christians all quote the Bible, they all claim to believe the Bible, and yet, it is quite a surprise to learn that they all disagree regarding what the Bible actually teaches! All 38,000-plus denominations in Christendom claim to be serving and following “Jesus Christ,” and yet, they all believe mutually exclusive doctrines and practice opposing rites and rituals. How can they all be following Jesus Christ while all doing different things?! The Church the Body of Christ is supposed to be united; nevertheless, schisms, strife, and contradictions abound. Why?
Let me give you some of the most popular examples of the literally thousands of major arguments in Christendom:
Many churches believe that faith and works are necessary for salvation, quoting Matthew 19:17 and James 2:24; the remainder of churches believe that salvation is by faith alone, using Romans 3:28, Romans 4:5, and Ephesians 2:8,9.
Some groups believe that water baptism is necessary for salvation, relying on Mark 16:16 and 1 Peter 3:21; others hold that it is merely a testimony of salvation, citing Matthew 28:19 and Acts 2:38; still others do not water baptize at all, relying on 1 Corinthians 1:17, 1 Corinthians 12:13, and Ephesians 4:5.
Some churches participate in “snake handling,” “devil exorcism,” “tongue talking” and “healing services,” citing Mark 16:17,18 and James 5:15; others completely reject those practices, quoting Romans 8:18, 1 Timothy 5:23, and 2 Timothy 4:20.
Some churches argue that we must observe the Saturday Sabbath, citing Exodus 20:8-11, while others believe there is no Sabbath day to keep today, quoting Romans 6:14 and Colossians 2:16. (There are even groups that argue that we must observe Sunday, the alleged “Christian Sabbath!”)
Some groups teach that Christians can lose their salvation, following Psalm 51:11, Matthew 24:13, and Hebrews 6:4-6; other groups believe Christians are eternally secure in Christ, relying on Romans 8:35-39, Ephesians 4:30, and 2 Timothy 1:12.
Some churches teach tithing, according to Malachi 3:8-11, while other churches believe that we are not under an obligatory giving system, citing Romans 6:14 and 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Some argue that we should confess our sins to God daily, quoting Matthew 6:12,14,15 and 1 John 1:9. Other groups believe that we should confess our sins to priests, using John 20:23 and James 5:16. Still, others believe that confession of sins is unnecessary because Jesus Christ died to pay for our sins and we are already forgiven of all of our sins, citing Ephesians 4:32 and Colossians 2:13.
Some groups say we are bound to keep the Mosaic Law, using Exodus 20:1-17 and 1 John 2:3,4, while others say we are under grace, not law, citing Romans 6:14 and Galatians 5:1-5.
Amazing huh? All of these groups are using Bible verses to support these opposing views!! How is this possible?! If the Bible has all of these conflicting views, then exactly what does God expect us to believe?! What is the solution to this abounding confusion and these so-called Bible “contradictions?” Firstly, understand that “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Corinthians 14:33). The problem is not God’s Word; God’s Word is infallible, perfect, and completely sound. Sinful mankind and Satan, not God, are to blame for the gross theological errors and false teaching in Christendom. Never, ever blame God for the confusion that Satan and mankind generate using religious tradition and human “wisdom.”
If people would simply use the Bible God’s way, all of the doctrinal confusion in Christian circles would disappear. Alas, people prefer their religious tradition, so they do not care to submit to God’s Word. The Lord Jesus Christ rebuked the religious leaders of His day: “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition“ (Mark 7:9 KJV). These people approach God’s Word with denominational biases and reach denominational conclusions, instead of seeing what the Bible actually said and to whom it said it. What makes it all the more disturbing is that the pastors and teachers who should be dispelling confusion and doubt are only adding to the preexisting confusion by failing to use God’s Word God’s way themselves. These church leaders only teach God’s Word as their denominational system interprets it, instead of letting the Bible’s testimony speak for itself and mean what it says, where it says it, and to whom it says it.

      @@CatholicTruthOfficial BEHOLD THE SOLUTION: 2 TIMOTHY 2:15
If we use God’s Word, God’s way, there will be no contradictions and no confusion. The Bible will only make sense to you if you approach it the way God designed it to be studied (that is “rightly divided”). Read what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2:15, as found in the King James Bible:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The only verse in the Bible that tells you to “study” the Bible tells you how to study it. When you “rightly divide the word of truth,” you are recognizing the distinctions/divisions that God has made in His Word. Through various dispensations (sets of directions), God gave different instructions to various groups of people. (For instance, compare the differing diets that God gave in Genesis 1:27-29, Genesis 9:1-4, Leviticus 11:2, and 1 Timothy 4:3-5.) We must be careful to never insert directions into the dispensations in which they were never given. Confusion results when we combine all of the Bible’s instructions as though they were spoken to one group of people. There are several dispensations in Scripture given to different people at various times and we must never confuse them. It is this very failure to rightly divide the word of truth that gives rise to all of the conflicting doctrines (what we discussed in our introductory remarks).
Let us now discuss the basics of “rightly dividing the word of truth.”
THE TWO PROGRAMS IN GOD’S WORD
Genesis 1:1 KJV, the first verse in the Bible, reads: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” God divides the heaven from the earth. (This is true even at the end of the Bible, in Revelation 21:1.) Furthermore, God has designed one program to operate in each of these realms. There are two programs in the Bible: the “prophetic program” and the “mystery program.”
The Apostle Peter says in Acts 3:21 KJV that he is preaching that “which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 16:25,26a KJV that he is preaching “according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest….”
Obviously, if words mean anything, Peter and Paul are speaking of two different things. Something “spoken since the world began” cannot be the same as something “kept secret since the world began.”
The prophetic program focuses on the nation Israel and an earthly kingdom (Exodus 19:5,6; Deuteronomy 4:20), where Gentiles (non-Jews) receive salvation through that kingdom (Isaiah 60:1-3). On the other hand, the mystery program focuses on the Church the Body of Christ and a heavenly kingdom (Ephesians 2:6,7; Ephesians 1:22-23), where Gentiles receive salvation without Israel’s kingdom (Romans 11:11,12,25). Surely, if we are to avoid confusion, we must keep those two programs and their respective directions separated (“rightly divided”).
Sadly, most of Christendom combines all of these Bible verses into one program, ignoring the differences between the program that involves Israel’s kingdom and the mystery program that does not involve Israel’s kingdom. Again, this haphazard handling of the Bible is the source of the spiritual confusion and the alleged Bible “contradictions.” They are mixing opposing directions God gave in different dispensations (these directions were not given in the same dispensation).
Today, the Apostle Paul writes that the prophetic program that was operating in the “Old Testament,” the Four Gospels, and the early Acts period is temporarily suspended. We are currently living in the “Dispensation of the Grace of God” (Ephesians 3:2), the mystery program, which the Lord kept secret in the Old Testament but has since revealed it to mankind through the ministry of the Apostle Paul (Romans 16:25,26; Ephesians 3:1-11). Why did God hide it prior to Paul? It was to keep the devil from knowing His entire plan, so Satan could crucify Jesus Christ, and thereby would actually defeat himself (1 Corinthians 2:6-8)!

@@CatholicTruthOfficial WHOM SHOULD WE FOLLOW TODAY?
It is often mistakenly assumed that we need to “follow Jesus” (that is, the red letters of the Four Gospels). Yet, when we consider the Scriptures, this makes no sense whatsoever. Can we sinners follow the sinless Lord Jesus Christ? OF COURSE NOT!
Romans 11:13 KJV says that Paul is “the apostle of the Gentiles.” As previously stated, the ascended Lord Jesus Christ revealed to Paul alone “the revelation of the mystery” (Romans 16:25,26), His secret (mystery) program to deal with the whole world (Jews and Gentiles) on the basis of grace and Christ’s finished crosswork on Calvary. On the other hand, the Lord Jesus Christ ministered to Jews only in Matthew through John (Matthew 10:5-7; Matthew 15:24; John 4:22; Romans 15:8). Jesus had no ministry to us Gentiles because He had to save Israel first! It is not until we come to Paul’s ministry when God begins to deal with Gentiles. This is one basic fact of Scripture that most church members have never been told.
Jesus Christ urged His followers to obey the Mosaic Law, and commanded them to teach others to do the same (Matthew 5:17-19). Contrariwise, God through Paul tells us, “ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14,15). Obviously, we cannot follow both of these instructions. We cannot follow Jesus’ earthly ministry because we are not Jews. Furthermore, “Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more” (2 Corinthians 5:16). We do not know Jesus Christ after His earthly ministry (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Rather, we follow Him according to His heavenly ministry (as He is revealed in Paul’s epistles, Romans through Philemon).
God set forth Paul to be our “pattern” as to how we receive salvation (1 Timothy 1:15,16). In addition, Paul writes, “Be ye followers of me, even as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). In the Christian life, we follow Paul as he follows Christ. In Paul’s epistles alone we find the doctrine, duty, walk, and destiny of the Church the Body of Christ. Paul is God’s spokesman to you, just as Moses was God’s spokesman to Israel. If you want to learn what God has to say to you today, you must go to Paul’s epistles, Romans through Philemon. To reject Paul is to reject Christ who sent Paul to you, and to reject Christ is to reject God the Father (Matthew 10:40; John 13:20). Paul wrote: “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 14:37). The test for spirituality today is NOT following Jesus in His earthly ministry, but obeying what God the Holy Spirit says today through the Apostle Paul.
YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE AS A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH THE BODY OF CHRIST
We are not the nation Israel, for in our dispensation, Israel is temporarily “fallen,” “cast away,” and “spiritually blinded” (Romans 11:11,15,25). We Christians are members of the Church the Body of Christ, where there is neither Jew nor Gentile (Galatians 3:26-28; Ephesians 1:22,23). What God has to say to us is different from what He told the nation Israel in the “Old Testament,” the Four Gospels, and the early part of Acts. It is important to understand how your Christian life operates as a non-Israelite, as a Gentile living in the Dispensation of the Grace of God and a member of the Church the Body of Christ. If you want to be spiritually “edified” (“strengthened”) and spiritually “perfected” (“matured”), you need to study and believe the Pauline epistles of Romans through Philemon (Ephesians 4:12).
God wants to “stablish” (stabilize) your Christian life and inner man by using a three-fold process. God wants you to understand the life that He has given to you in Christ Jesus, so that you can better understand what He is doing today, and then you can, by faith, follow Him and do the same. This is how we discover and do God’s will for our lives. The Bible says in Romans 16:25,26 KJV:
“25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:”
Notice the three-fold process of Christian edification:
“my gospel“-Paul’s Gospel, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, is the foundation of the Christian life
“the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery“-this is Paul’s epistles of Romans through Philemon, the sound doctrine (building materials) which we use to build on that foundation
“the scriptures of the prophets“-this is all of the Holy Scriptures, in light of the doctrine revealed to Paul.
This is why studying the Bible rightly divided is so important. We study all of the Bible, Genesis through Revelation, but we follow the design of Christian edification as laid out in Romans 16:25,26. If we refuse to follow the dispensational layout of Scripture, and most people do refuse it, then we will be going against what God is doing today, and our Christian lives will be in shambles (which is why Christendom is in such pitiful shape!).
DO WE ONLY STUDY PAUL’S EPISTLES? (NO!)
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). All of the Bible is God’s Word, so we study all 66 books of the King James Bible (Genesis to Revelation). But, unlike most churches and professing Christians, we study the entire Bible according to the “revelation of the mystery,” (in light of the Pauline epistles, Romans through Philemon). All of the Bible is for us, but not all of the Bible is to us and not all of the Bible is about us (remember, most of the Bible is written to and is about the nation Israel, not us). We follow God’s design for Christian edification, and we seek God’s approval, not man’s approval (2 Timothy 2:15).
When studying a particular Bible passage, you first need to establish the following, in this order:
      1. who is writing/speaking,
      2. to whom are they writing, and
      3. what are they writing.
Again, keep in mind that Paul’s epistles of Romans through Philemon are what God has to say to you, and the rest of the Bible deals with another program, Israel’s program.
If Paul does not instruct you to do it, then God does not expect you to practice it in your life.
WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD THIS BEFORE?
Are you shocked by what you have just read? Does the Bible make more sense now? So, why have you never heard this before? I would strongly suggest that you ask your pastor, Bible teacher, or priest why he never told you any of this. You might be surprised at his answer!

Although he attempted to trip me up with this “I gotcha” issue, I showed him the following verses, including today’s Scripture, and he has not been heard from since! 🙂
Just as vain religious tradition abounds today, it did in Christ’s time. The Pharisees and scribes loved being religious, but they vehemently rejected God’s Son Jesus Christ, and they made every attempt to hinder His ministry. Today, most churches relegate God’s Word to a “good advice” status: the Bible’s testimony is only sought if it agrees with church tradition. Myriads of church members only hear God’s Word via a biased (denominational) viewpoint. This happens in “Christian” churches of all places too!
In Matthew 15:9, Jesus said: “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” He expounded in Mark 7:8,9: “For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.”
The focus was not on God’s doctrine and its meaning, but whether or not someone could pacify Israel’s religious body with outward performance (formalism). By cleaving to their tradition, they nullified God’s Word (today’s Scripture). Consider modern-day church members enslaved to a denominational hierarchy, bound to perform religious duty and appease fallible man.

      Jenner,
      Read each section individually...
"Time flies like the wind" is an age old expression, but there is no such type of fly (as in the insect).
However, there are "fruit flies". Have you never left a banana out way too long, and those annoying little 'fruit flies" start swarming around the banana?

    • @jzapapas
      @jzapapas 3 роки тому

      Jenner,
Obviously a very deep question, and one that I can't answer quickly, so I'll start it off slowly...(if I can answer it at all). :-)
First, by "God alone", do you include Jesus Christ as part of God?
Second, when you use the term "following", I'm assuming that you are referring to the Bible as your reference to "following". If so, and you include Jesus as an inclusion, whom do you rely upon for your interpretation of the Bible, when you have questions?
How about we start there. :-)
P.S. Hopefully we can continue our conversation during this Easter weekend, but I may not be able to respond as quickly. Have a blessed Easter!

    • @jzapapas
      @jzapapas 3 роки тому

      Jenner,
Rev 1:3 is certainly a truthful verse, in that truly is a person blessed who reads the bible and "tries" to live their life as it is written. With this I cannot argue, nor could anyone else.
I don't want to get hung up on words, but there is a distinct difference between "traditions" and "teachings" of the Catholic Church. For example, as pointed out in the video, where does it say in the bible, what are the accepted books of the bible? Is it only the old testament, only the new, is Revelations one of the books to be included? None of this is included in the bible, so we have to rely on someone to teach us what is to be accepted as truth.
If there are some 30,000+ denominations of protestant churches, who is to say which one is being truthful? I'm not saying that every Catholic priest, bishop, or the pope is always right in what they say, which is why it is up to the Catholic Church, of which her teachings are handed down over the centuries, that we must trust.
As a simple example, as I was reading Judges 12-15 this morning, is Samson a good judge or a bad judge...and why? From what can we learn from his story? (Note: I don't want you to get hung up on this one example, as there are thousands of others to choose from).
You might get 30,000+ variations on this or you can get a single interpretation from centuries of study and wisdom of the Catholic church fathers.
I have come to accept that there are a LOT of very holy men and women that have studied God's word before me and they have lived their lives to write down their wisdom so that I can better understand God's holy words. This is just one of the reasons that I love the Catholic faith so much.
Have a blessed Easter, and my prayers are with you in your faith journey.

@@Hannahbean25 I would strongly suggest doing research on the 7 extra books that are in the Roman Catholic bible. They were written between the time of the last living old testament profit and the birth of Christ. They were written by ordinary uninspired jewish men as a historical account. The Jews themselves never excepted them as divine and never excepted them into the old testament. Even the very early church didn't except them as inspired. It is very important to do research on this matter before adopting them as part of scripture. It's not that Protestants took the books out of the Bible, it's that the Roman Catholic system added them on what it claimed was it's own athuroty to do so. Protestants in the 1500 simply wanted to get back to the gospel and the truth of scripture without all the dogma that has been added to the church over the many years. Plz just do some research for yourself. Everything we need can be found in God's given Word.

One thing is to listen to the authority of the Church as Christ said to. But It's not that you have to do anything outside of Scripture per say (even listening to the Church is in Scripture), it's more of how does one arrive at the the proper interpretation of Scripture that will lead to salvation. Only the Catholic church has a final Authority toes interpretation of the Bible. We need the church and the Bible. Both are from God and both are authoritative. But when there's a disagreement on the Bible, Protestants have no way to solve it. There needs to be a final Authority. God bless.

As he said in the video, "Scripture alone" is self-refuting, because the Bible doesn't say what books belong in the Bible. So, just sharing the Bible with your family IS sharing what ISN'T in the Bible: the list of books that ARE Scripture. It depends on what authority you believe. The early Church until the Reformation believed 73 (or 72, if Lamentations is counted with Jeremias) books, while the protestants threw out books but only kept 66 books.

How do you reply to this response to the use of James 1:4?
The second argument leveled against the sufficiency of Scriptures is the assertion that the Bible itself refers to other things that are necessary for Christian maturity such as perseverance, purity, etc. Cf. James 1:4; 2 Timothy 2:21
Some go so far as to claim that Ephesians 4:11-15 states that the apostles, prophets, teachers, and evangelists which Christ gave the Church is what brings about the complete maturity and unity of Christ’s body, not the Scriptures.
Apart from the fact that none of these passages use the Greek words artios or exartizo, this actually proves our point. How would a person know that perseverance, purity and all the different offices that Christ instituted for the Church are essential for Christian maturity if the Scriptures hadn’t stated this? In other words, since it is in the God-breathed Scriptures that we find these qualities listed as necessary for successful Christian living, this then proves that the Bible contains everything needed for the Christian life! There is nothing else that needs to be added to it.

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial
      @CatholicTruthOfficial  3 роки тому +1

We answered this in the video. First, know where does 2 Timothy 3:16 or 17 say that the Bible is sufficient, complete, or anything else. Second, James 1:4 says: James 1:4, (also see 2 Tim. 2:19-20) and let your perseverance be perfect (téleion) so that you may be perfect (téleioi) and complete (holóklepoi) lacking in nothing. (En medeni Leipomenoi). This passage uses stronger language then 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and would mean that perseverance is all you need based on the same hermeneutic employed.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial you are not addressing the point but are repeating your claim that doesn't refute the argument. Note again what the argument is. Apart from the fact that none of these passages use the Greek words artios or exartizo, this actually proves our point. Let me simplify this. Since James 1:4 is in the Bible, and since you would not know that perseverance is necessary to be made complete if the Bible didn't tell you so, this, therefore, proves that the Bible is that which tells you everything you need in order to be complete and fully equipped for every good work. In other words, how did you know that you need perseverance if the Bible did not tell you?

@@shamounian We would know it because Christ taught it as did the apostles. Remember that the oral teaching of these things came first long before they were written down. And hundreds of years before they were canonized into scripture. The tradition and teaching authority of Jesus and the apostles came before the New Testament. So we knew them before the New Testament was written because it was already being preached about. We believe that there is a material sufficiency of scripture, but there is not a formal sufficiency of scripture. The same people who wrote these things also preached them. And in fact Scripture says that there were many things that were not written down are Paul wanted to teach people in person. John also says there were many things not written down for they would fill all the books of the world if they were. So we agree that what people need is found in Scripture, what Scripture is not self interpreting, and it's not open to any private interpretation, worth thousands of different interpretations that contradict each other. So I stated in the video, while scripture is God's Word and necessary, we also need the church to properly interpret it, the same church that had the authority to canonize the Holy Scriptures in the first place. 2. Secondly, this reference to the New Testament is also confirmed in 2 Timothy 3:17, where we find that the man of God is made “complete, furnished completely unto every good work.” The man of God could not be “complete, furnished completely unto every good work” without the revelation that comes from the New Testament. The Old Testament alone could not do this. It should also be noted that 2 Timothy was written towards the end of St. Paul’s life (See 2 Timothy 4:6-8), with the timeframe being towards ca. 65 A. D. (Some historical records state that St. Paul was executed in Rome in about 67 AD., According to ancient sources such as Clement, Dionysius, Eusebius and Tertullian). Hence, given the historical context of the epistle of 2 Timothy, we find that this time frame provides plenty of time for some of the New Testament epistles to be broadly circulated, copied and read by many of the Churches. Thus, it takes BOTH the Old Testament and the New Testament for the man of God to be made “complete, furnished completely unto every good work.” This could not occur by means of the Old Testament alone, which provides us with only the shadows / types of the greater realities found in the New Testament (Hebrew 10:1). The Old Testament Shadows are completed by the realities found in the New Testament. In sum, it takes the writings of both the New Testament and the Old Testament for the man of God to be “complete, furnished completely unto every good work” for the purpose of “teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”

Great point. --The problem here is that people can and have made up traditions throughout time that do not line up with the Bible. There are two warnings that Patrick mentioned--and he limits both of them to only two books of scripture? Only because the entire canon was not bound together yet? Jesus quotes scripture constantly bound in a book or not. So there were many scrolls--so what? That is scripture!!!
Perseverance means staying faithful to the completeness of the Word. Jesus is the Word.
Complete means complete. These arguments are twisted.

The reason Catholic seek to disprove and try to explain away scriptural evidence of the Sola Scriptura and say (2 Tim 3:16) (which is pretty clear) is the fact that their doctrines are so unscriptural to the scriptures we behold. and in some places their belief border on the occult and superstition. When man's ideas ,crafted by corrupt Popes and Popes who for Centuries hid the scriptures from their flock(using latin )and telling them that only priests should read it ,have over time influenced the Church to what it believes today certainly you would argue against Sola Scriptura. And so you come up with the idea that the Bible contains the word of God because you can then twist it to new ideas and to what you believe. It was Martin Luther who after diligently studying the word realised how corrupt the Church had got when the Church ignored the Sola Scriptura , and it was the word that exposed it. Had it not been the belief of Sola Scriptura the Church would still be in darkness. One encouraging thing that has happened in the Catholic Church is the fact that the lay people now ,for a long time, have had access to the word of God and we have seen changes in the people's lives. Because the Bible is "living and active sharper than a two edged sword! "To the extend that many no longer believe many of the errors of Catholic Doctrines and lives have been changed! Whereas before the Church was in darkness but now it as light!

Capricorn, there is not evidence for sola scriptura. It's not Catholics who have to explain it away, Its Protestants who have to bite and claw to find some little thing that could possibly prove the Bible alone to keep their man-made religions intact.
2 Tim. 3:16 never says the Bible is the only or final authority. Those words are nowhere. Protestants literally read their preconceived doctrine into the bible instead of reading what the Bible actually says.
The Church did not ignore sola scriptura, Luther invented it. And also went crazy seeing the folly of his man-made doctrine by the end of his life. There were over 230 new Christian religions by the time Luther died all claiming to go by the Bible, all claiming to go by the Holy Spirit and all contradicting each other and fighting with each other. Even Luther was frustrated with is by the end because it's not true and not from God. Protestants are believing something... unbiblical.

“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye” (Mark 7:13 KJV).
A critic once asked me where the Bible taught “Sola Scriptura” (that the Bible, not religious tradition, was the final authority).
In their minds, their vain religious tradition, not God’s Word, had the preeminence (Galatians 1:13,14; 1 Peter 1:18). Sound familiar?
Friends, you either believe religious tradition, or you believe God’s Word. The two cannot and will not mix because they are mutually exclusive: “…Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition” (Matthew 15:6). According to Jesus Christ, the Bible alone has God’s authority, not religious tradition (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16,17).

The Greek word translated as “breathed out” in 2 Timothy 3:16 is theopneustos, and Scripture is the only thing described as such by the Apostles. Thus, Scripture has a unique character as the voice and words of the Lord. It uniquely serves as God’s special revelation, as His inspired and revealed will for His people. Nothing else today is theopneustos, so we can point to nothing but Scripture as the Word of God.
When we speak of Scripture as theopneustos, we are pointing to its divine inspiration. The Word of God written is identical to God’s speech.
    Mathew 4:4
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
This is what sola scripture stands for , the scriptures cannot be broken John 10:35
The process of biblical inspiration is mysterious, for we do not know exactly how God moved the human authors of Scripture to give us His Word. Nevertheless, we know that Scripture is the Word of God, and so it can be trusted to give us nothing but the truth of God. When we want to know God’s will for us, we must turn to Scripture, for it is there alone that we will find the Lord’s guidance.

@@jennernolast6858 Jesus never taught certain things directly, yes, but it doesn't mean those things are not present. But with regards to sola scriptura, it is completely not found in scripture. And we will see that as I refute the points you made.

Let us first consider the points that are made.
      Objection 1:
Gal 1:9 - As we have said before, so now I say again, If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed.
The verse is forbidding the teachings that are contrary (παρ - root:παρά - English: Contrary - www.blueletterbible.org/niv/gal/1/9/t_conc_1092009) to the gospels (ie. a false gospel). Nowhere does it say that the gospel is the ONLY infallible source of authority. It is just saying not to believe in false gospels (like the Apocrypha) and false teachings (like sola scriptura lol) that are contrary to the true gospels that are true. The Catholic Church never taught anything contrary to the gospels/scriptures.
This is what Evangelical scholar/pastor David Guzik has to say about the verse:
"They were turning away from a Person (from Him who called you) as they turned to a false idea (to a different gospel). To turn away from the true gospel is always to turn away from the Person of Jesus Christ"
"But even if we, or an angel from heaven: Paul didn’t care who brought the false gospel. Even if it were himself, or an angel from heaven, it was to be rejected. Any person who spreads a false gospel was worthy only of a particular curse from God (let him be accursed)." - Study Guide for Galatians 1
So nowhere does this say that the bible is the sole rule of Christian doctrine or that all Christian doctrine is found in the gospels alone, it's just telling to beware of teachings that are contrary to the gospels.
      Objection 2:
2 Th 2:15 - So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter.
This verse isn't talking about words as in, the words that the apostles wrote, many things were unwritten. the term used here for "word of mouth" is "λόγος" which is something that is said, like a word or a sentence. We know this is the case because this is a Genitive noun. (www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0057:entry=lo/gos). So the following question is, what is this talking about?. it is talking about the church tradition that was passed down thru word of mouth. Don't take my word for it.
Let's read early church father John Chrysostom:
"Hence it is manifest, that they did not deliver all things by Epistle, but many things also unwritten, and in like manner both the one and the other are worthy of credit. Therefore let us think the tradition of the Church also worthy of credit. It is a tradition, seek no farther." (Homily 4 on Second Thessalonians)
One more way we can tell that this is talking about apostolic succession is due to the way of how Paul writes. Paul's personal example was a form of apostolic succession. Read the following verses:
      2 Thessalonians 3:7-9
"7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, 8 we did not eat any one’s bread without paying, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. 9 It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate."
      1 Corinthians 11:2
"2 I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you."
      2 Timothy 1:13
"13 Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus"
You can see how Paul does things and asks the people to "imitate" them and to "maintain the traditions".
      Objection 3:
Isa 34:16 - Seek and read from the book of the LORD: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the LORD has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them
I don't see how this verse relates to anything we are talking about. All this verse is talking about is that the predictions of God will not fail. This is literally what Protestant theologian Albert Barnes says when he writes "The language is here evidently taken from the pairing of animals, and denotes that all that is spoken shall be entirely fulfilled." in his notes on the whole bible.
      Objection 4:
1 Cor 4:6 - I have applied all this to myself and Apol′los for your benefit, brethren, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.
This isn't even talking about the gospels lol even John Calvin (one of the reformers) doesn't agree that this talks about sola scriptura. John Calvin says Paul’s use of the phrase “what is written” is probably either a reference to the Old Testament verses he quotes within his epistle or to the epistle itself (Commentary on 1 Corinthians 4:6). I think catholic answers have replied to this verse's misinterpretation pretty well so I will just quote them:
"What is certain is that Paul, in saying, “do not go beyond what is written,” was not teaching sola scriptura. If he had, he would have been advocating one of four principles, which are inconsistent with the rest of his theology: (1) Accept as authoritative only the Old Testament writings; (2) accept as authoritative only the Old Testament writings and the New Testament writings penned as of the date Paul wrote 1 Corinthians (circa A.D. 56); (3) accept as authoritative orally transmitted doctrine only until it has been reduced to writing (scripture) and only while the apostles are alive, then disregard all oral tradition and adhere only to what is written; or (4) the most extreme position, accept as authoritative only doctrine that has been reduced to writing.
The difficulties with these options are immediately clear. No Protestant would agree with option one, that the Old Testament is a sufficient authority in matters of doctrine. Nor would he accept option two, for this would mean all New Testament books written after the year 56 would not qualify under the 1 Corinthians 4:6 guideline. Hence, John’s Gospel, Acts, Romans, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, Titus, 1 & 2 Timothy, Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2, & 3 John, Jude, and Revelation would all have to be jettisoned as non-authoritative.
Option three fails because in order for sola scriptura to be a “biblical” doctrine there must be, by definition, at least one Bible verse which says Scripture is sufficient, or that oral Tradition is to be disregarded once Scripture has supplanted it, or that Scripture is superior to oral Tradition. But there are no such verses; and as we’ll see, 1 Corinthians 4:6 is no exception.
Option four is likewise untenable because it contradicts Paul’s express command in to “Stand fast and hold firm to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours” (2 Thess. 2:15). Thus, for 1 Corinthians 4:6 to support the theory of sola scriptura, Paul would have been talking out of both sides of his mouth, on one side demanding adherence to the written word only, and on the other urging fastidious adherence to both written and oral tradition"

      Actually, JOHN says Jesus says.
John is the most beautiful, dramatic gospel. One where Jesus actually says a lot instead of being documented in doing things.
But unfortunately also a bit of a problem since it is so late in terms of writing.
And clearly there is fiction within...
      WHAT? fiction? *WHERE?*
Y'know that bit where Pilate talks to Jesus.... HOW did we get that when NO ONE was there to see and write it down?
Also, John 8. Your footnotes of the bible will even tell you the story of the adulteress is appended in MUCH later and not likely to have been written by 'JOHN'.
WHO were the crowds around Jesus. Remember it's Passover. Not Jews.
I also have the problem with Romans washing their hands of his blood. It's clearly fabricated. Romans crucify sedition. Jews stone people and would not have done that at peach.
How do we reconcile what is fiction and what is not?
      OPEN YOUR EYES...
      Still, a very beautiful gospel
      *ADDENDUM* the antisemitic bits notwithstanding.

Below are some additional Scriptures which support the idea of Sola Scriptura, which St. Peter introduces to us in 2 Peter 1:3, 4. It should be recognized that because none of the Gospels nor any of the epistles mentioned the iconoclastic destruction of Jerusalem and its temple by the Romans in 70 A. D., with the majority of Jews either being killed or placed into slavery, that the New Testament Scriptures were most likely completed before that event.
2 Timothy 3:15-17: In 2 Timothy 3:15-17 we have an important reference to “the Holy Scriptures,” which includes both the Old Testament and the New Testament. That the New Testament Scriptures are also referenced in 2 Timothy 3:15-17, is confirmed by the context on two accounts: 1. First, in 2 Timothy 3:15 we find St Paul making reference to the wisdom that the Scriptures provide concerning salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The Old Testament does not include any such talk about Salvation being through faith in Jesus Christ. Only in the New Testament writings do we find the concept of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Hence, for the unbiased, it is clear that St. Paul is also talking about the New Testament plan of salvation by faith in Christ Jesus (this plan of salvation was revealed in the 1st century Gospels and epistles that were being circulated, copied and read in the 1st century churches).

The people Peter preached to at pentecost were Jews a lot of them had probably met Jesus personally. Paul tells us he was seen alive by over 500 brethren after the passion. So by the time pentecost came I'm sure the events of the last 50 days were fresh in a lot of memories. He told those Jews repent. Change your mind. Believe God raised Christ back to life. Repent did not mean quit sinning as some teach. It meant change your mind? How màny Catholics have repented. Obviously none because they go to confession about once a week. So if repent means quit sinning and you will recieves the gift of the spirit. They don't have the spirit. The confession booth is evidence of that

Mormons say the exact same thing. They think they are the True Religion because they have true prophets that still exist on Earth. Other small little sects say the same thing. But Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets as we see in Hebrews chapter 1 and John the Baptist was the last official prophet.
How do we know the Pentecostals have the true prophets and not the Mormons or the Church of God, or anyone else who might claim it?
God can speak and work through us, but there are no official prophets like they were in the Old Testament. The closest thing would be the Pope who is the highest authority on earth because that's what Jesus established and only he received the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
So many churches claim many things. Many Queen prophet's. Mini cream of thority from God. Many claim a lot of things. But the Pentecostal churches were started by Charles Fox Parham in 1980, so that's clearly not the Church of God. Assemblies of God and the UPC or started even later. So we're talking barely a century-old. Only the Catholic Church goes back to Christ and has his authority and speaks with his authority. So if anyone truly speaks for Christ dinosaur if it's the Catholic Church, the same church that canonized the holy scriptures and put the Bible together as we know it today. That's how you know the authority is legitimate. People accept the authority of the Bible and therefore they should accept the authority that gave us the Bible.

All baptized Christian are prophets in as much as we are ambassadors for Christ, but you must understand that a prophet, in this sense, is just one who tells God's truth. Prophesy remains one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but post apostolic prophesy is considered private revelation. Things like messages given to the Saints and messages from apparitions of Our Blessed Mother or Jesus are all considered "private revelations" so Catholics are not obliged to believe these "post Apostolic revelations". I myself had a prophesy regarding a friend of mine who had a condition that made it impossible for her to have children. A group of us prayed over her for healing from her ailment and I heard an "inner voice" telling me that she would have children. I was able, with confidence, to tell all present that the Holy Spirit had healed her. About a year later she and her husband had their first child and they have had four more since! Her doctor considers her healing miraculous. If your husband likes Pentecostal Spirituality have him look into a Catholic Charismatic group.

The woman at the well was a "gentile," as a Samaritan, but she clearly recognized "our father Jacob" and knew the prophecies of the OT pointing to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, because in reality she was an Israelite from one of the 10 tribes of the House of Israel. Likewise, most of the "gentiles" Paul addressed clearly were familiar with the law (the OT) as inherent in their own culture, which is why Paul spends so much time going over the law with them, because in reality both Paul and Jesus when addressing "gentiles" were actually teaching people of the House of Israel (as different from the House of Judah). I agree with your point about Paul in Athens, but not because they were "gentiles," as we take that to mean today, but to Israelites (and others) who had strayed so far from God they had been lost in the earthly wisdom of philosophy as a substitute for the Most High, whom they had forsaken and forgotten.

Many believe that scripture was not the final authority and has never been such , here is a snippet of antiquity to prove otherwise.
Gregory of Nyssa makes that point above mentioned in a letter to Eustathius.
The Arians claimed that their tradition (or “custom”) ring a 🛎 did not allow for the Trinitarian position. Gregory responded with the following:
What then is our reply? We do not think that it is right to make their prevailing custom the law and rule of sound doctrine. For if custom is to avail for proof of soundness, we too, surely, may advance our prevailing custom; and if they reject this, we are surely not bound to follow theirs. Let the inspired Scripture, then, be our umpire, and the vote of truth will surely be given to those whose dogmas are found to agree with the Divine words. (Dogmatic Treatises, Book 12. On the Trinity, To Eustathius.)
When Arian custom ran contrary to Trinitarian custom, to what authority did Gregory appeal?
The Scriptures YES the SCRIPTURES, sola scripture won the day for good ol Gregory hopefully it does the same for you too my fellow brothers and sisters 😁

St. Peter did not teach or imply that there will be a need for subsequent doctrines or traditions that would come after the 1st century. Rather, St. Peter clearly taught the opposite. That is, St. Peter taught that the 1st century believers were given (past tense) everything necessary for life and godliness and for participating in the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:3, 4). In this sense St. Peter supports the teaching of sola Scriptura, which essential states that the 1st century Scriptures are sufficient for salvation and sanctification of the believer.
St. Peter wrote, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature,” (2 Peter 1:3, 4).

@@TheEdzy25 once again, Patrick Madrid and Gerry Matatics and Robert Sungenis, did a much better job on refuting the man made tradition of Scripture alone, than Michael Lofton did. I do like Michael, but William Albrecht though is outstanding They did refute the Protestant position exceptionally! Can you please provide certain details of what you feel were left out by these Catholic apologists? That is all I am asking! Blessings to you! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is True food and Blood True drink

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of [his] disciples that are not written in this book.
New American Bible, Revised Edition. (Washington, DC: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2011), Jn 20:30.
*Where does one go to learn of these things Jesus did that are not recording in the new Testament? Answer: History, tradition, the early Church fathers, the Apostles - ie, The Catholic Church!
*If "works" are not a thing as my Baptist friends tell me, then who are they trying to impress by memorizing Bible snippets used to attack Catholics? Where does it say in the Bible to use this book to attack Catholics, ie, "non-believers"? That sounds more like the Koran than the New Testament.

If you read John 3:16 for example there is no argument regarding its meaning. Not everything is ambiguous in scripture. If you apply the argument of interpretative ambiguity than nothing that is written in any book would be comprehensible. That includes my post. I think your guest is drawing a long bow with this argument. One area of ambiguity is when to take a verse literally of allegorically. This is where there often is variance in scriptural interpretation. But not every verse is ambiguous.

Yes, and there are many passages in Scripture that are confusing. Some take them literally, some don't. Some take them allegorically, some take them in a apocalyptic sense. Even John 3:16, we understand its meaning and general pretty clearly, but some people misuse the first to try to prove a once saved always saved Doctrine. Whereas other people point out that the Greek is present tense and so doesn't prove that. Just some thoughts. Even Peter said that Paul wrote some things that are difficult to understand and discern. This is why there are so many thousands of denominations because it's really not that easy to just look at the pages and decipher what it says correctly. Everyone reads it a different way which is the problem.

God in the Bible blesses and curses....successfully. One can go to specific places in Palestine and surrounding areas, and visit places cursed by God in the Bible. They are still cursed. Bethsaida, Chorazin, and Capernaum of Matt 11 come to mind.
Therefore, it is not difficult to understand that God judges according to the Bible.
Does God judge according to Catholic pronouncements of judgment or blessing? Well, the Pope blessed the Spanish Armada...
I see no reason to fear the pronouncements, and interpretations of the Catholic Heretical Church.
