  • In this video I talk about the great deal (LOL) I got from GearVendor and show how to change out the old push/pull knob for my own LED lighted switch.

    My back and shoulders were experiencing sympathy pains during the wiring installation in the cab! Nice video, sir!

    I have a GV unit in my 85 Ford F250 C6 trans and I love the unit but hate the electronics. It will turn on and off whenever... usually going 60 mph and slam. I hot wired the solenoid and by passed the speedo setup that has it only working above 30 mph. I turn it on above 35 when its in top gear and turn it off when I leave the highway.

      I think part of my poor opinion comes from the unit i had being so badly abused when I got it. When i went to take it off the truck the main shaft inside just fell out. But i agree the electrical side could definitely use re-engineering.

      Thank you! That is a 100% pandemic produced paintjob (PPP Special). As in... I was really bored and had a LOT of time on my hands. No vinyl wraps. The stencils were hand cut out of regular printer paper and spray painted on.

    I was going to say in the beginning that's it's just a 12v on/off switch. Hopefully you returned it and made your own.

    GV did not machine that aluminum part or anodize it, they paid another shop to do that. The electrical switch and wires are imported from china. The shipping box and packaging costs money. So all that resourcing costs GV money and taxes. Add the shipping cost and state taxes. GV maybe made $45.00 profit. Open your own machineshop and pay wages.

    One of my trucks came with a GV and it works great. I wanted to convert that truck from a C6 to an factory OD and not need the GV on that one, then use it on another truck because the other truck really needed an OD. They wanted something like $500 for an adapter.
    The other thing about GV is that I hear they don't sell parts to fix the OD unit... They want you to send it in. This is complete BS. I love the idea of the the GV OD/Splitter, but damn that's expensive and they don't seem to work with people that already have a unit. $100 for a switch is a joke.

      I did return the switch. Im glad i planned to eliminate it because the gearvendor literally fell to pieces as we removed it.

      Glad yours worked out for you. I enjoyed it while it worked. I firmly believe the previous owner severely abused it as even Geavendors themselves say they aren’t intended for heavy loads beyond what could be hauled in the bed itself and I know they ran it with a heavy 5th wheel.

      @@getheated Yes you are probably right. Sucks it fell apart when you took it out.. Hope mine keeps working good. Are you going to fix if it can be fixed or replace it?

    • @getheated
      @getheated  Рік тому +1

      @Baker504 I reached out GV about it and they said they will not sell any rebuild parts for them. The only options is to ship whats left of mine in and pay (i think it was 2500) for it to be rebuilt or replaced. I still have the old unit laying in the weeds but unfortunately I no longer have the truck.

      I'll look into that! I wasn't thrilled about the tape but wanted to get it done. I'm sure I'll be revisiting it soon.

    Yeah it's hard to pay 10000 percent markup for stuff when you are a technician.
    It's amazing how much people pay for being clueless.
