Lesley Manson, PhD, LPC, Associate Professor for Arizona State University, and Cathy Hudgins, PhD, LMFT, LPC, Behavioral Health Integration Consultant for Hudgins & Associates, describe recent regulatory and legal guidance changes that affect substance use disorder treatment, clinical practice, and/or operational policies. They identify how the Cures Act and revisions to 42 CFR Part 2 changed the way providers and others involved in patient care communicate and exchange patient health information. Lastly, they discuss the ethical implications of these changes and strategies to mitigate negative impacts.
