Fee Waybill of The Tubes talks about "David Foster and Friends", Jeff Lynne, Xanadu, ELO, Roy Wood, Wizzard, Kenny Ortega, producers and producing bands, and property management
I saw The Tubes play at Konserthuset here in Stockholm, Sweden when I was a teenager in mid 70's. They were really exciting to watch and something totally different! I loved the consert and will never forget it and still love their hits. They enriched my life f. ever! Thank You!
I used to love Tubes music. Now I love Fee as a person also. Very cool to see him being himself and brilliant, honest and amazingly interesting.
One of the most under rated singers in Rock & Roll...I love him and the tubes!
Best interview series I've ever seen with Fee. Good questions, and he obviously felt comfortable with the interview and crew. Well done, everyone. What a treat!
Thanks for posting this. The person who said he appreciated Fee's candor is really spot on. Waybill is so painfully honest it hurts to listen sometimes. Ridiculously talented of course and really underrated (of course). I really admire what they do. So sharp and refreshing. The interviewer is top shelf in my opinion. Knows his stuff. Peace everyone.
+Royal Half Circle Peace to you as well, my friend.
Royal Half Circle totally agree. Fee doesn't seem fake or pretentious at all. I must admit, I feel badly for the Tubes. they should have stuck with David Foster. The Completion album was their best: Amnesia, Attack of the 50' Woman, Don't wanna wait... great stuff.
The Completion Backwards Principle is one of my favorite albums. Just a marvelous effort!
Fee, I am so proud to have shaken hands with you three times over three decades. You and The Tubes have a huge following from the small town of Grass Lake Michigan. We hope to see you soon in the Detroit area again soon. With Love from All Bobdo Wiltone
The best interview. In 78/79 saw the Tubes in London and Oxford. Incredible show. and now I can play the live cd, (and I am now 62) I relive how great the Tubes were.
This was great..especially hearing "FEE" has a Property Management company..very cool. Seems like a really nice guy..and yes I've done performer interviews.
Watch all three of these. Well worth it for his experience and candor.
Thank you Robert. I just wanted to ask questions that nobody else would. Shoot the shit type and not ask the same mundane questions. Have fun
GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!! GREAT INTERVIEW!!!!!!!! New respect for the TUBES!!
Just saw them in Big Bear 7-23-16. They were outstanding. A great band.
Fee shares great insights about his time in the music biz....the market is a fickle thing. I'm delighted the Tubes still gig, saw 'em in 2011. Fee killed on his James Brown tribute, and I don't know any other vocalist who could pull it off.
I'm a Tubes Fan since the late 70's on. Lesson One Pay off at the end of the song.
Fee seems so genuinely funny and remarkable. Thanks for asking him about Xanadu. Seems like he loved working in it.
^"...and property management."
"...and a baby's arm holding an apple."
I love Fee, wish he'd bring the band to Ireland.
Really, really good to see you again Fee Waybill! Excellent interview, just got to know you better, keep it up.. The Tubes Completion Backward Principle, your best album ever!
Really nice guy! Not to many in music these days
Fee's so cool.
Great band and a awesome Singer,Love the Tubes!
cool funny cat love to have dinner with him and hear his stories
Fee. My MAN.I have a new lady in my life. If there is ANY way we could meet you, and your wife, I would give my right arm.I met you, and Rick, and Prairie, and Roger, at the Soiled Dove in Denver, 2007. Or so.If I could EVER meet you guys again, my life would be complete. If you are ever near Louisiana, I will be keeping my eyes open.Thank you.Thank ALL of you, Fee, Roger, Rick, and Prairie.
You made the life of my music FAR more rich, ALL of you..Thanks, man.And thank ALL of you.And even Mike, Vince, and Bill.Honestly. guys.ALL of you.
Great interview! I've been a fan since I was 18 yrs old (1975), heard White Punks and thought, "Holy shit, who are THESE guys??" Gotta disagree with Fee on a couple points, one was that WPOD was a pretty big player on the old KMET rotation in LA in 75. Also, on What Do You Want From Life, I specifically remember the ending with the narrator talking about material things we "need". Saw them at a biker rally in SoCal a couple years ago...still awesome.
Wish everyone was so fuckin honest.Whether it's a band that sucks or him not bein a great producer.Very cool interview.
Would he work with Rick Ruben? that might have been interesting.
IT hurts that fee has to work one the si de
I get frustrated sometimes - as I imagine a lot of people do watching an interview with someone who is interesting to me, because they don't ask the questions I want answered. This is to be expected to some degree. But here, this dude is not really prepared, I would like to know more about the Tubes - What inspired some of their songs, the crazies parties they attended, why they call them selves the Tubes - I mean cover some basics, for dudes like me who love their tunes have listened to their albums for decades but don't know much about them.
+Cyan Blackflower Stay patient, my friend. And listen for the subtexts.
to bad the tubes never got commerciële sucses,IT hurts that fee tot toe work onze the side
Time for the uncompleted backword principle
I agree that he's hard to listen to - and to bear.
Fee Fi Foe Fum......Lukather had to fill in on guitar and you have the Gaul to nix Canadians? Too bad Fee, I actually like The Tubes.
Tubes are amazing. Interviewer sucks though
