Lowrider Custom Paint, Candy, Lace, Fans, & Fish Scales

- This how-to covers the various textures and airbrush styles you can include into an Lowrider theme custom paint job. In the custom paint & motorcycle world Lowrider style with lace fan and fish scale patterns and others are huge. Elaborate tape outs, pin-striping, mural work, gold leaf, are just some of the items used in this style. Since Im doing one such paint job on a @harleydavidson I figured I'd do a complete how to of three popular themes as well and sequential masking and candy paint techniques.

Fantastic stuff, I always use magnets to hold the lace but of course that only works on steel.
That’s a cool video. I really need to tape up a couple panels for graphics. I always find it confusing to see a completed panel and try to work it backwards to figure out how it was done. But this video makes it all really clear. Thanks for posting Mate!

I hear some people saying they don't like the paintwork on the bags, is there a problem with the paint adhering to them ?
Awesome work! Can you elaborate on y not to use the sg100 Inter coat clear . I thought the sg-150 was for flake and pearls. Also the trans nebula 00 looks milky in the can does it dry clear?
150 and 00 are pretty much the same thing. Yes as crystal clear as sg100 but unlike sg100. The 00 or 150 can go more then two coats because it had better binders so candies as well as pearls suspend better and you wont get the peeling it splitting that occur with ti much sg100 coverage. I know we did it back i the day but its not the way to do it now and hasn’t been for a while

Is the black you are using to do the design outlines and shadowing, is it a candy black or just a regular black?
Its black cut with come candy cobalt blue. I never use Black Straight on Graphics of Shadows. it makes if look Flat and Dead. I alwasy add i color tint and transparency to it.
What brand of airbrush do you like best? I am getting back into it after 30 years.
I use Iwata and for the most part have for 30 plus years. Always quality

It’s just transfer tape for vinyl application.

Lots of variations. I only did the graphics on this for a shop that did the base and clear. The artwork was around 2500 I think.

The one was house of Kolor solvent. But I also work in water based

What airbrush is your favorite ?
Depends on what I’m doing. My Iwata Eclipse CS or HpCplus are my day to day workhorses. Then I have other types for more specific uses

What do you use for the masking? The white mask
The plotted mask was FBS blue. I also use Rtape comfom
transfer tape for a lot of hand cut work too

Did you used acrylic lacquers?
No. This was House Of Kolor Urathanes. Much better, clearer and more durable to work with

i know I can do this as ive been a painter for 15 years but I dont know if i want to. I dont think anyone would pay me what i want for this kind of tedious time consuming work.
I get paid for every second. if your work is quality and the customer values it then you are all set. You just need to sell it
So what the heck does snal scale and lace have to di w each other. No theme, just ghetto.
