Dude. Your face. As a black woman that likes this kind of music, it was rare that I got to see reactions of other black folks that didn’t listen to this. Especially songs like this. 😂😂😂
When you are abused as a child, you have two choices. You either become what you went through, or you become a good parent. I chose to become a good parent...
I appreciate you being able to do that. Many other people take the third available and second responsible choice-- to not have kids at all because they are afraid they are ruined and could not be a good parent.
Third choice - don't become a parent and risk snapping. That was the road I took because, even after years of therapy due to an exceptionally abusive step father when I was little, I STILL have moments of blood rage. I couldn't bear the thought of someone being caught in the crossfire.
While I agree with you Justin, you can make the choice to break the cycle. I decided when I was a teenager that I would NEVER become my parents, and I did just that. I have 3 adult children who are very productive and stable, and have never been abusive to their spouses, and they raised their children the same way.
my grandma gave me whoopins. my mom was the one breaking bones and locking me in small spaces, this track was transformative for me, and through this expression I can proudly say I never had to lay hands on her to have that on my conscious. nearly 20 years later I can truly reflect on those times and testify to anyone living through an extended time of violence, music is a very healthy tool for beating the shit out of your demons.

A lot of rock music, most hard rock and almost all metal particularly: is therapy in the form of exorcising one's own demons. I don't expect anyone but metal heads to understand that a head of time, so if you're unaccustomed to this genre: with anything you hear from it - keep that foundational principle in mind and suddenly it all makes a hell of a lot more sense.

This is about how society treats people who are "different." A lot of people think they are "sick" and "wrong" and want nothing to do with them. In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!")

No, he wasn't classically trained, he comes from a long line of Orthodox Jewish cantors. Yes, it's much different from the Sound of Silence. He definitely has a range
Gotta say, I love how you start jamming as soon as a song starts up. You really have a heart open to music. ETA: So this song came out and became a hit when I was in middle school, well over a decade ago. *I* was shocked hearing "Sound of Silence" because it was so...ballady, compared to their usual style. That's when researched revealed that he had in fact been trained as a cantor growing up. Jewish worship background iirc. Recommending their song "Stricken". Similar vibe and style, no crazy-angry skit. Great imagery in the song.
@@alenemarie It's important to understand that although abusers are most likely to have been abused themselves, those have been abused are not more likely to abuse. To quote a psychological study "The belief that abused children are likely to become abusive parents.......... is unqualified and acceptance is unfounded." Mental health disorders, social issues, anxiety, drug addiction/self medicating etc. are certainly concerns someone who has suffered with abuse may have to overcome. It's important to understand this difference and not lump those that have been abused with those that are abusers.
Palau Maestro I understand what you are saying. I myself was abused and because of my abuse, I became the mother I always wanted. I broke that chain of abuse. Was I perfect? No. I suffer from severe depression and anxiety to this day. I don’t believe I said that all abused people become abusers. They do, however, have a much higher risk of becoming an abuser themselves. The song is about an abused person who finally lets out all of his anger, frustration towards his abusive mother. The evil implanted into him by the abuse comes out. It’s a metal song, so it’s “heavy” sounding. I relate to the anger, actually, but would never do this. It’s done for me in this song: it’s a release of my anger.
My mom was 5'1 I was 6', my mom put me down on the ground with a choke hold that would make a Brazilian jujitsu black belt proud. I miss her and respect her so much.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Have been for a long time. I love watching Disturbed reactions of people who only know them from their "Sound Of Silence"...is this the same group? 😂😂😂🤣
I saw them at a double-headliner with The Offspring. His voice range is amazing! This is one of those cathartic rock/metal songs that make you headbang your problems away.
This was ONE of my favorite top reactions... The almost ending of the song.. and the look on your face.. PRICELESS... I could not stop laughing! .... Love you for being real. LOL
“If that was my mamma, there would have been a whipping”! I couldn’t stop laughing. He was enjoyimg up until that mamma business, then he ......”it took a turn”!
Same guy!! David Draiman...this was way b4 sound of silence...my favorite vocalist behind Dimash😁 yeah I know...my taste is eclectic! These guys are amazing live!! You look a little "disturbed " after that!!😉💖✌
I actually met David Draiman outside a tiny little club way back when Down with the Sickness first came out. I was just turned 18 and it was the first 18 and up show I had ever been to. The club owners had separated the line out by age and was only letting the 21+ crowd in. David came out and talked to us for a bit while we were waiting to get in, and eventually asked what we were in line for. Dude got pretty hot and sorted it out right there. It was a small very small club and the line was backed up around the block, and we had been there first and waiting for a while. After a quick word to the bouncer we were walking inside right as the venue was reaching capacity. During the show for like two whole songs he took his mic outside and played to the crowd that didn't get as lucky. Later we butted heads in the mosh pit, I jumped up near the stage as he was swinging his head down. Staggered me, he didn't miss a beat. It's not really my style of music anymore, but Mr Draiman is and always has been a class act. Top notch performer. So cool to see someone reaction for the first time to this crazy song all these years later.
1:46 "he went from this to that" Dude even in the world of heavy metal music, the people are still musicians. The singer still sings even if it's not the same style. The guitarist plays distorted instead of clean. The drummer plays slow instead of fast. There are so many ballads out there made by metal bands that honestly sound so good and i love being able to have mellow as well as hard songs from my favorite bands.
I remember the 1st time I heard this song was at a hockey game and my dad and I both looked at each other and said "we need to find this song". Ever since then we have kept up with them. Love it lol
Yep same dude. This came first. This song is about child abuse not about whooping your kid. There is a difference. Therefore the dark turn. I told you it was a whole bother ball game. Your face though 😂😂😂 I love Disturbed! There are other songs that they’ve remade. One is Land of Confusion.
I was under the impression this was a metaphor for society and not literally about child abuse. Im pretty sure I heard that in an interview somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.
My mom loves the version of Sound of Silence and told me Disturbed was coming to town and wanted to go. I had to send her a few videos of their own music. She changed her mind. I told her to blare the music really loud and smoke a joint! I love this song.....the beat is unreal. The lyrics are tough to swallow.
I only recently found your stuff thanks to the algorithm but your reactions are the best. It's cool seeing someone passionate about learning new music outside their norms. You're so hilariously charming. Keep up the awesome work!😂
I have to say, you are one of the few people who i like who do reactions, You only pause when you're question something and tbh I did like how you reacted to when it as you said took a turn. I always wanted to see someone actually reacted to this song, don't get me wrong it one of my favorites, but even I also say it took a turn and I listen to it way too many times, so I'm going to subscribe to you and keep up the good work.
A lot of their songs are heartbreaking; they speak of the pain of children from abuse, of people with illness and neglected, the flaws and crimes of society. What he's singing about is the horrors children go through, not just getting spanked. Some of the songs just leave you reeling from grief for what people go through.
Down With The Sickness came from the 2000 album "The Sickness" and I believe it was the bands first album. So yeah, this came WAY before their cover of "Sound of Silence" lol
I just recently found your channel and I absolutely love the diversity of the music you listen to and that you wait until the end before speaking your thoughts or even using the bubbles. Keeping doing what you do! Love it!

Brother, your face when the breakdown happened had me rollin laughin 😂😂😂 disturbed is definitely very talented in all aspects. Down with the sickness was their first song out that got recognition. You should check out a song called a reason to fight by disturbed...its way different than this song but you'll love it. It's basically about suicide. 💪🤜🤛
Why? To bend to the 'will of the people' and ignore the hard realities to just sell records. 'Sound of Silence' was directly a result of this type of self-censorship imposed by society and the record industry. The 'sickness' is not dealing with it. Ignoring dealing with hate....the sickness.
OMG!! I absolutely love your reaction!!!! So real!! I felt the exact same way! I laughed so hard when you stopped it the second time!! You are awesome!

That's when researched revealed that he had in fact been trained as a cantor growing up. Jewish worship background iirc.
Recommending their song "Stricken". Similar vibe and style, no crazy-angry skit. Great imagery in the song.
There is a difference between discipline and abuse. His reference is about abuse.
Aside from that, your reactions to this song are hilarious.
Exactly
Abused children often go on to be abusers themselves. They rage.
Dude I died..."hey hey! What's going on here, this took a turn" 😂😂😂😂
I always interpreted this song as a seriously abused child that snapped. Other than that... I love this song 🤪
That’s the intended interpretation!
My mom was 5'1 I was 6', my mom put me down on the ground with a choke hold that would make a Brazilian jujitsu black belt proud. I miss her and respect her so much.
I believe the song was about being abused by his mother not disrespecting his mother. Abused to the point of him going mental.
I luv your vids!
He wasn't tho. He says in an interview
Love the reaction always makes me laugh when people try connect early Disturbed with their current stuff
Error...does not compute...error
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Have been for a long time. I love watching Disturbed reactions of people who only know them from their "Sound Of Silence"...is this the same group? 😂😂😂🤣
I saw them at a double-headliner with The Offspring. His voice range is amazing!
This is one of those cathartic rock/metal songs that make you headbang your problems away.
I’ve seen disturbed live 6 times and they’ve never let me down! Even got a chance to meet them at an ozzfest! It was everything!
That part that makes you uncomfortable when you have a loving mom 😂
lol you went from "wtf" to "yeah" to "wtf" :D

Same guy!! David Draiman...this was way b4 sound of silence...my favorite vocalist behind Dimash😁 yeah I know...my taste is eclectic! These guys are amazing live!! You look a little "disturbed " after that!!😉💖✌
AMAZING 😳
Thank you for doing the full version! The ending makes the perspectives of the song x10 more intense.. real twist
1:46 "he went from this to that"
Dude even in the world of heavy metal music, the people are still musicians.
Love it lol
OMFG - 'So this took a turn' - LOL I'm dead. Holy crap! You're reactions are SO REAL! Thanks for this.
This is the getting pumped up song heard by every kid that played team sports heard in the dressing room before a big game for the last 15 years
Lmfao at “ironing board”. 🤣🤣🤣
Well Some of the stuff I went through as a child to most people it would be abuse. But in my household it was just another day
@@singerkgreen it is
I pinned your comment bro👍🏾
David Draiman has stated both in interviews but child abuse is the most popular version he gives.
Yes! Me again, lol! I'm hooked on your videos! I freaking love this song. It's a great one to de-stress to. Gets all the frustration out.
Almost all their songs have a reference to society and the govt. Their other songs touch on very important topics. I love them
Thank You🙏🏾
@@jamelakajamal you're welcome. Check out a reason to fight, are you ready, inside the fire, the vengeful one, watch you burn and more
shouldn't be too surprised with that turn from a band named Disturbed.
🤣😂🤣 I had tears I was laughing so hard! 🤫 How about some Buckcherry reactions 😜
Thanks🙏🏾
Sound of silence was waaaaaay after... About a decade and a half or so after
A lot of their songs are heartbreaking; they speak of the pain of children from abuse, of people with illness and neglected, the flaws and crimes of society. What he's singing about is the horrors children go through, not just getting spanked. Some of the songs just leave you reeling from grief for what people go through.
“I would have had an ironing board thrown at me...”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
4:41 *Realizes that ‘The Sound of Silence’ was the odd song”
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. This is what they normally sound like.
I wouldn’t call this “heavy metal,”. .... pantera, Gojira... lamb of god.... those three are metal. This is more like hard rock alt metal.
yes!!!!
I love watching you so much! Thank you for the genuine reactions
Down With The Sickness came from the 2000 album "The Sickness" and I believe it was the bands first album. So yeah, this came WAY before their cover of "Sound of Silence" lol
The stare then the “what the hell is going on here” lol
I just recently found your channel and I absolutely love the diversity of the music you listen to and that you wait until the end before speaking your thoughts or even using the bubbles. Keeping doing what you do! Love it!
Yeah I kinda changed it because my videos have been getting blocked because of copyright issues, so I’ve been pausing. Sorry in advance and hope you continue to tune in🙏🏾
@@jamelakajamal Totally understandable... doesnt change the quality of your videos. I'm still a fan no matter what!
Thank you Rachel you can also check out my IG page @sixfoot5inches and I follow back👍🏾
@@jamelakajamal On my way to Insta now!
03:36 " It seems you´re having some trouble. In dealing with these changes!" :D :D :D
"Oh this is crazy, crazy".
Yeah.... They are called DISTURBED. Of course it's crazy!
Its been a few years since i last listened to any sort of rock or heavy metal...My parents think that it bring negative energy in the home, so I stopped listening to this kind of stuff. But listening to this makes wanna jump up ,dance and scream. I cant run away from this music any longer. I cannot resist >:{
Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit is another to check out!
Oh yeah, definitely "break stuff"This song has gotten me through a lot of bad days...lol
The best song for a bad day.
Absolutely gotta react to Limp Bizkit!
"Nookie"
And Weezer, Hatebreed, Offspring, Reel Big Fish, POD, Chevelle, Godsmack, and 12 Stones
Lmao "hey Hhey what the hell is gone on here?" 😄😂 Too funny!!
This dude has such an amazing range ! He could sing anything in any genre !
I had the beginning of this song as my ringtone back in the day. Yes, it takes a very dark turn. Still one of my favorites. ♥️ Child abuse is evil.
Really good!! Gets you pumped
That's nothing but Raw Emotions. Dave Dramaine is a Beast!!!!!
Oh, boy, the uncensored version! Radio edit cuts this song to bits. Can't Imagine. Why. Love this band!! So talented!
Why? To bend to the 'will of the people' and ignore the hard realities to just sell records. 'Sound of Silence' was directly a result of this type of self-censorship imposed by society and the record industry. The 'sickness' is not dealing with it. Ignoring dealing with hate....the sickness.
Hey, Jamal are ya down with the sickness? :) Love some Disturbed. " Hey, what the hell is going on here?" Lmao
Lmao 😂... You said, "Hey Hey Now". I love your reactions
Thank you for being on this musical journey and bringing us along for the ride
...so this is UA-cam for you...
The song ends and it goes strait into a Klondike bar ad...
Btw, your "WTF?" reaction was priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XD
On a side note, I LOVE your Marvel Comics shirt.
Thank you🙏🏾🤣
It ain't about "society and government," its straight up about child abuse making monsters.
OMG!! I absolutely love your reaction!!!! So real!! I felt the exact same way! I laughed so hard when you stopped it the second time!! You are awesome!
Jamal starting to get down w/that sickness😂😂😂😂😂
Get cha freak on Jam!!!!!
