I’m having a hard time understanding why “For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world,” is not ok? I’m all for Traditional devotions, but the fact that someone is praying at all, should be applauded. But I’m not an expert; just my humble opinion.

The Sacred Heart Devotion began in 1670s... but Jesus' Sacred Heart was pierced on the Cross much earlier. The Divine Mercy Devotion in 1930s but His Divine Mercy flowed when He died for us, when His Sacred Heart was opened with the Lance. When the Divine Mercy is prayed, we are asking God to have mercy on us for the sake of what Jesus did for us. As long as a Devotion isn't heresy, as long as a Devotion makes us more devoted to God, I think we can pray it. There could be saints in the making that we don't know about.

Father your point about embracing traditional devotionals is spot on however, The Divine Mercy devotional is a great place for people to begin. I have encouraged several of my Protestant brothers and sisters to pray this and through this devotional they become open to praying the Rosary. I now have a Protestant friend who is seriously thinking about converting to Catholicism. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a great place to start. For non Catholics the concept of praying to Our Lady is too much for them bc they feel they are not honoring God. I have found the Divine Mercy Chaplet and novena a good bridge the gap and an amazing evangelization tool. It is also a great prayer for very small children just learning to speak. I understand at some point it is good to embrace traditional prayers for their richness. I do both. I pray daily Rosary, Chaplet, novena to the Precious Blood, I have some old prayers in Latin to Saint Micheal, Saint Joseph. I am just so grateful to anyone who in our current time space is humble enough to pray at all. I agree their are some of us who are called to be heavy hitters as prayer warriors and others that this is really about all they handle. God is so smart and so good he is meeting everyone at their need. We are not all ready for the solid food so let’s not take away the baby food and deprive nutrition. For some the simplicity of the Divine Mercy Chaplet is all they do. LETS ENCOURAGE. God Bless you Father.

How do you know how many Saints followed this devotion?
And to be fair, it’s not been around for as long as others…..
just exactly how many Saints were formed by the Fatima devotion??
    Once again, you can’t know.
And to reinforce your condemnation of the Divine Mercy devotion, you are now calling in to question the Saints who are connected with it.
Namely, Saint Faustian, and Pope Saint JohnPaul 2.
I love the Fatima message, as I love the Divine Mercy devotion. Both are truly Catholic, and lead us closer to God.

    • @jakepoepping3640

Well I think he is referring to canonized saints. So yes you can put a number on how many practiced the divine mercy. And Fr admits he has doubts about the modern canonized saints. Also he states that Our Lady of Fatima was merely promoting old tried and true devotions like the Rosary. And yes the “Fatima” prayer. And also the miracle at Fatima was witnessed by 70,000 people so clearly something happened that was from Heaven! We are not bound by our Catholic faith to believe Fatima or the divine mercy message. But holding Fatima the biggest miracle to take place since the parting of the Red Sea in a higher regard and having more belief and zero doubt of its legitimacy only makes sense. I thought Fr was very charitable about his view and he never actually condemned the divine mercy devotion he was tackling a issue that is a pretty hot topic in traditional circles I thought it was a great explanation.

@@jakepoepping3640 I too mentioned canonised Saints….. what other kind are they?????
I never accused him of being uncharitable, altho it might be a legitimate concern, now that you mention it…..
Somehow, I get the feeling you have misinterpreted my questions as something entirely different….,
He definitely was disparaging about the Divine Mercy devotion, and that’s fine, I’m just wondering why? there’s always room for great devotions that lead the way to prayer, just as the Fatima devotion does, which by the way, I did say I loved, and altho you are obviously well intentioned, you really had no need to give me the Fatima “talk” …….. I’m a long time believer and promoter.

I have read Sister Faustina's diary. She lived before Vatican II. She had immense devotion to Our Lord and I believe He had an intimate relationship with her. I am a Traditionist Catholic. I accept the visions and Prayers of Our Lady of Fatima. I say my Rosary almost every day but sometimes I am weak and neglect both the Rosary the the Divine Mercy Chaplet. When this happens I am in the state of sin so Father Rodriguez please pray for me. Sister Faustina's diary reminds me of Thomas a Kempis. Her diary, as far as i can discern, is in conformity with pre Vatican II theology.

    • @margaretboyle8719
      @margaretboyle8719 2 роки тому +4

Perhaps you should re-read that Diary. I found several heresies: the Blessed Sacrament "flew" into her hand, an act of sacrilege and she claimed the Lord told her she "would not be judged." Only the Immaculate Mother of God is NOT JUDGED she was conceived without sin and never sinned in thought, word or deed. Keep up the DAILY Rosary prayer; I know it is difficult some days. I am struggling myself. Faustina's book was on the list of banned books for decades with cause.

Why not both? (Taco commercial meme) lol, anyway, it’s my understanding that The Church didn’t initially take to the SH devotion either. Just something to keep in mind. I think both the SH and DM are true, we just have to keep in mind that these devotions came to us through the saints, who’s works are not inerrant.
Emphasizing God’s Mercy doesn’t preclude His Justice. Read St Francis’ Praise of The Most High God, he essentially says what St Faustina says. He lists many things about God including His Justice, and then sums up by declaring God Merciful, and in some translations “loving and merciful”. Of course, all of God’s attributes are infinite.

There is no confusion. You don’t have to be devoted to ANY devotion to be a good Catholic. Every single one of these devotions and revelations are all private. But Divine Mercy is approved by the Church just as the Sacred Heart of Jesus is also approved.
Edit: I have been reading St Faustina’s diary. She was also incredibly devout to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She’s legit. Definitely no confusion.

These same people would change God's law to conform to society. That is their choice based on poor Catholic formation for the.past 50 years. My comment is they are sheep not shepherd's and society always has that element. *Don't confuse me with the facts my mind is made up. I follow the crowd.* Not everyone gets to heaven, we must follow God's laws and grace. That is why we have free will. Salvation had. a price and Jesus paid it .We must follow and obey. Heaven is not woke a feel good club the church of nice. I attended a Baptism on Sunday and was appalled by the poor behavior and disrespect for the Eucharist. The parents were in their 30's and their behaviors were similar to middle school students. It was a social media event. The priest said take pictures for memories but let's not make it a documentary. One child ran up and down the aisles while another sat well behaved next to his Dad. Lack of respect discipline and education.I am tired of excuses for poor behavior and lack of accountability. I stopped the devotion when I was reading Faustina’s diary entry about the flying Eucharist. I knew it was not from God. All devotions have a starting point. Traditional devotions are traditional , but were not always. The Divine Mercy Chaplet has changed my life and my heart. I was a bitter angry person and through this Chaplet, my heart and mind have been changed through Gods Grace. I am a changed person and consider the Divine Mercy Chaplet a gift to me and my family. What I needed most was to understand that God forgives me and it seemed that I held myself guilty even after confession. The Chaplet was the gift that let me see that Gods Mercy is sufficient and if He can forgive my sins, I must forgive myself too.

Serious doubts about the authenticity of the "Divine Mercy" devotion. If this is the age of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary ( which was specified quite emphatically by Our Lord and Our Lady at Fatima ), why is the image of the heart itself clearly lacking in this imagery? Very suspect. And why would you 'worship mercy'? I can see worshipping the Lord who is merciful, but "worship mercy"? Cringy...And why are Faustina's apparitions so self aggrandizing? She's the best, the most, the dearest...give me a break! And that episode of the 'host' flying through the air three times to land in her hand of all places ...at a time ( still should be ) when only the priest's consecrated hands are to touch the Host...hey, Catholics: use your God given brain! Are you that desperate for an apparition? Is that what our faith is about? Fatima is not yet fulfilled, but, hey, let's just move on to something new...

Pope Saint John Paul II even instituted Divine Mercy Sunday into the liturgical calendar. There’s no issue there, as after Saint Faustina diary was correctly translated, the ban was lifted. It’s a good devotion and I submit to the Bishop of Rome on this matter, far from being schismatic or leaning towards sedevacantism. We must be careful to be always in communion with Rome. I appreciate Father's admonition that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should in no way replace the most vital devotion to the Sacred Heart or overshadow the prayers given by Our Lady at Fatima. Rather, it should reinforce our devotion to the mercy flowing from the "glorious Pierced Heart of our Lord" (Cardinal Burke's favorite way of referring to it).

By their fruits you will know them. I have had many powerful experiences testifying to the authenticity of the Divine Mercy Devotion. My brother in law was dying in a coma, and in the hospital room, I prayed the Divine Mercy chaplet for him. I heard him talk to me telepathically--he repented of his sins. I believe that Jesus saved him even though before this he rejected the Catholic faith: Mercy for the dying is a promise of the DM devotion. Jesus promised tremendous graces to those who prayed the chaplet. I believe that the DM Chaplet is a multiplier--it multiplies your graces. Do not deprive yourself of this powerful devotion. Just like devotion to the Blessed Mother, it does not decrease devotion to the rosary, but increases it. When I was praying the DM Chaplet, I was also praying the rosary more consistently. When I started praying the DM chaplet more often, I also prayed the rosary more often. It is also easier to introduce Protestants to the Catholic faith with the DM devotion. This devotion was approved by the Catholic Church after much scrutiny. Catholic Church approval under JPII--good enough for me.

Antipope jpII wasn't a Catholic though, given his apostasies at Assisi, so his "canonization" of Faustina isn't valid. Plus, the divine mercy deception was actually banned by the Vatican repeatedly: nobody could prove the nun's visions happened. And we're supposed to just believe she happened to be doubted when she never addressed her superiors' concerns in her diary?
Honestly, I'm doubtful of your "powerful experiences." How do you know beyond reasonable doubt it wasn't a devil impersonating your BIL? Lying is part of Satan's agenda. Have you at any point spoken with an exorcist about this, simply to better appreciate how the devil works relentlessly to fool us into thinking we're in good relations with Jesus?
Gave up this heretical devotion--promise is God's "unconditional forgiveness", when Scripture is clear that it's actually conditional: you must repent, as in change from the heart, to receive His Mercy. Plus, it's promise #6 in the Sacred Heart Devotion, which I've taken up. Color me astonished that the divine mercy deception was all feel-good, just like a drug, whereas the Sacred Heart brings peace into my deepest being.

The origins of the "Divine Mercy" have been proven to be at best questionable, and at worst, a sign of the prophesied whore of babylon. As is seen in Faustina's diary, it was specifically engineered by Satan to replace the rosary. Sr. Lucia never said anything about Mercy, and she lived and spread the word of God in the same time period of Faustina. Sr. Lucia said multiple times that God is angry at humanity's repeated sin. The "Divine Mercy" is neither divine, nor merciful, because it is designed to encourage sin in light of God's mercy, and thus only increases the number of souls lost to damnation.

Like - communion in the hand, extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist distributing Communion - especially women, girl altar servers, the sign of peace (ugh! 😩), Mimicking the gestures of the priests, guitar music at Mass (which I actually would play at Mass 🤦), etc... I would go along with all this but it never felt quite right. This past 2 yrs, little by little, these things have been revealed to me - WHY I've been annoyed by these things. Now I know why. I have already made a long comment in this section answering Father, if you have any specific questions or concerns I'd be happy to see them; I've looked into this a lot. It's very possible that you simply don't like the DM chaplet because everyone's soul is different, and not everyone is called to the same spirituality (franciscans, dominicans, benedictines, etc.) I for one love the prayers, they're my favorite. We have to be careful to not have guilt by association; the other things which you mentioned did not happen to St. Faustina, for instance. You are of of course completely in your rights to not believe in St. Faustina's private revelations, but I'd prefer that you had a good understanding of it before rejecting it.
      Sincerely,

Divine Mercy was around long before Communion in the hand, hand signs/shakes, or female alter servers. Another thing to reflect on, some of our earlier Saints such as St Joseph Cupertino and St Therese of Lisieaux had trouble praying the Holy Rosary due to lack of concentration.. meaning; everyone is different in what their souls are attracted to and/or in need of.
If you really stay with traditional teachings of the Church, just remember Jesus when HE warned us that we will be judged accordingly to how we have judged others and in the same measure.

I respectfully disagree with Father Rodriguez. Just because a devotion is relatively new, that does not make it suspect. The Divine Mercy devotion is directly responsible for my reversion back to the Catholic faith fifteen years ago. I was convicted by the Holy Spirit to list out certain sins (later found out they were mortal sins) and “told” to go to confession. The next possible date was the Saturday after Easter. I arrived at my old church shaking in my shoes because I didn’t know what to do, hadn’t been to confession since I was a child, and there were lines everywhere for different confessors. I made my confession and was told for my penance to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the other parishioners. I had no idea what the Chaplet was, anything about the Divine Mercy devotion- nothing! It was after I realized how God had led me to that particular church on that particular day and all the promises He made regarding the Chaplet came true that I cried because of His great love and mercy for me, a sinner.

There are many stories of the promises of The Divine Mercy coming true, Fr. Ripperger used to be either against the Divine Mercy, or weary of it. He, as an exorcist, noticed that those with devotion to it would either not be attacked as bad, or would have the oppression stop/recede while praying the Chaplet. St. Faustina is now listed in Fr. Ripperger's book 'Deliverance Prayers For Use By The Laity" in the 3rd prayer alongside other great powerhouse saints. He now believes that the issues people have with the diary come down to a matter of mistranslation. It's a slavic language translated into a non-slavic language, after all. Additionally, St. Faustina spelt a lot of thing phonetically i.e like spelling 'phone' as 'fone' , so there's possible discrepencies caused by the translators trying to translate her phonetic polish into Polish, as well.

    Dear Father,
First off I thank you for not making many objections, objections that are blatantly false, that I've encountered. I also thank you for being charitable with the video That being said, I disagree with your assessment, and I hope I can convince you otherwise, as well.
Let's talk about the overarching idea here, that the Divine Mercy ( DM) is not mentioned at Fatima, and that Fatima emphasizes traditional prayers. So, I have read both the diary of St. Faustina, as well as a book on Fatima, and of course have heard and read much about Fatima as all Catholics should, and I must say Father I don't ever remember the Queen of Heaven saying, "Only pray Traditional prayers." Additionally, if she only wants us to pray prayers of which are enshrined in centuries of tradition, then the Angel should not have taught the Fatima prayers to the children. Actually, I think that there is a correlation between Fatima, and The DM but I'll save that for the final paragraph. Further, if Heaven can't recommend prayers of which are similar to preexisting prayers, either 'faithful made' or Heavenly revealed, then again the Fatima prayers taught by the Angel should not have been taught. Also, if the DM prayers were radically different, they'd be objected to on the grounds of breaking too far from tradition, prayers are often similar from Heaven, though not exact, look at the famous St. Gertrude prayer for the souls in purgatory, and compare it to the Angel's prayer at Fatima. Very similar, but different, with different aims.
You brought up the many prayers to the Sacred Heart (SH), and I must say Father that it seems to me that many if not most of those prayers are heartfelt (no pun intended) prayers *composed* by the faithful and not revealed through St. Margaret or St. Gertrude. Certainly, a devotion that's been around for a very long time will have far more prayers composed around it, it's only natural. I also want to point out that none of the prayers regarding the SH that you mentioned are recommended at Fatima. There is an idea, which I'm glad you didn't claim, that the DM replaces the SH, and this is not true. I mention this for others reading, but also because I want to bring something to your attention that you may not have known: the SH is throughout the Diary of St. Faustina, in fact it's one of the last things (chronologically) that she records in the diary ( diary #1796).There are many other mentions, #1287, 1290, 1306, 1318, 1321, 1367, 1680. #1485 is a mention of His Sacred Heart, from The Lord. In her vision(or description) of heaven The Sacred Heart is mentioned at entry #592, this is likely not a complete list. The SH devotion, as you know, is a representative of the Person of Christ not simply His Heart as an organ, so indeed any true private revelation about Christ (or Mary's Immaculate Heart) that doesn't disregard The SH can be said to be a continuation of the revelations of The SH, of which I contend is the case with The DM. I also would like to point out here that The SH devotion was a *new* devotion at one time, and was (so I've heard) not immediately well received. There are similarities between the two beyond the prayers, both St. Margaret and St. Faustina's spiritual directors were tasked with spreading the devotion, and both of these priests died on the same day, for instance.
There are many mentions of reparation and praying for the conversion of sinners in The DM, #324 says, "There is but one price at which souls are bought, and that is suffering united to My cross." In fact, one of the main things to do at the Hour of Mercy (3 PM) is to pray for the conversion of sinners (diary #1572, and I think elsewhere, there's something in this citation that some may object to, so I just want to point out that the context is The Church Militant). I don't have the citation on hand, but there is a part in the diary where according to St. Faustina that souls who receive communion and treat Him like a dead object are very offensive to Him, and there are tons of instances which show The True Presence in the Diary. The very prayers of the Chaplet are prayers of reparation. It's true that it isn't specialized towards reparation of sacrilege(Fatima Angel prayer) or souls in Purgatory (St. Gertrude prayer), but it is, in fact, a prayer of reparation and begging for Mercy (Our Father bead prayer = reparation)
Father, I say the rosary and the Chaplet of DM everyday. No where in the diary is the rosary disavowed, as I'm sure you know, and I agree the rosary is more important. Whereas I don't actually know a case of someone replacing the rosary with the chaplet, this charge can't be held against the prayers or devotion. Many claim that they don't need to go to Mass, they can pray at home. This of course does not mean that personal prayer is to blame.
Lastly before I wrap up, I want to talk about the charge that The Chaplet of DM pales in comparison with the 'traditional' prayers passed on and prayed through the ages. With all due respect, Father, I disagree greatly. As I have said, the rosary is more important than the DM Chaplet, and what makes it so important is asking Mary for help and contemplation. But out of personal experience I can say that it's far easier for me to contemplate (The Passion, of course) while saying The Chaplet, and in all honesty, it is perhaps my favorite prayer (in terms of devotion, of course it's a bunch of prayers put together). I enjoy the prayers from the centuries, but none of them bring me as much peace as the DM Chaplet. And yes, I try to say the St. Gertrude prayer everyday, and I have both the SH image in my room, and the DM image, I say many prayers that are deemed to be 'traditional' but those prayers, aside from the Rosary, are not the type which you can say over and over like you can the Hail Mary, or DM prayers. The rosary is important because it begs The Queen's help, the Chaplet is important because it begs Mercy from The Father through The Son. I'd also like to encourage you to look into the miracles used for St. Faustina's cannonization, they're available at TheDivineMercyDOTorg
I'll wrap up in a new comment under this one.

Below is the end of a response I gave to another video:
      -----------------------
      Conclusion:
I want to now draw attention to the link between Fatima and The Divine Mercy.
This is one of the prayers the angel taught the children :
Most Holy Trinity-Father, Son and Holy Spirit-I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences whereby He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.
Now the Divine Mercy 'Our Father' bead prayer:
" Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, of thy dearly beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ. In Atonement for ours sins, and those of the whole world."
Now notice the Fatima prayer now attached to the rosary:
"O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy."
Sound familiar? " The greater the sinner the greater his right to God's mercy" #423

“Let the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy.” #1146
There is a shifting towards begging for Mercy in the life of The Church, and it doesn't matter if certain Popes have distorted it or not. Frankly it's time of arrival is uncanny, both in terms of the history of the world, and The Church, which I believes speaks to it's legitimacy.
In regards to the part of Fatima about the conversion of Russia, the intention for the conversion of the heretics and the schistmatics is smack in the center of the Divine Mercy Novena (the mass produced pamphlets contain changed wording for day 5 that reads "Today bring to Me the souls that have separated themselves from the Church.......(continues)" but the actual entry reads "Today bring to Me the souls of heretics and schismatics, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart; that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church, My wounds heal, and in this way they alleviate My Passion.")
It is further interesting, because Poland is kind of a mixture of 'The West' and 'The East,' The Image of Divine Mercy is also an icon, or a quasi-icon. The date in which St. Faustina says Our Lord appeared to her, asking her to paint The Image is on the date of a special feast of The Icons according to this video, ‘Part 2: Father Kaz, on the Feast of St. Faustina’ Divine Mercy youtube channel
-link removed because youtube doesn't allow links in comments-
I have heard that the schismatic Russians (and perhaps Eastern Rites in The Church), don't appreciate us displaying The Hearts of The Lord and Mary; makes me wonder if this is meant to help draw them back. In addition, the Orthodox love the Jesus Prayer "Oh Lord Jesus Christ, Son of The Living Father, Have Mercy on me, a poor miserable sinner" they'll repeat that prayer 100s of times like a rosary. Well the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is similar to both the Rosary and The Jesus prayer, while at the same time, unique.
      ----------------------
It's arrival in history, right before WWII, and essentially right before the time of great confusion within The Church, is to me quite providential, it’s like Heaven saying to us in these sad times, “I’m with you, be strong” or in other words, “Jesus, I trust in You.” . Thank you Father.
      Sincerely,
      Joshua

I have never been attracted to the Divine Mercy devotion which seems uninspired or sterile to me. Now I know why it fails to compare with our traditional piety and prayers and images dedicated to the Sacred Heart/Precious Blood. The Faustina directed image of Christ only shows red and white rays but no Blood and no Heart and is, therefore, missing the essence of Christ's Passion. - Thanks Father!

    • @joshdalf9493

The red rays in The Divine Mercy Image is literally blood, and it's literally coming forth from His Heart. There's no conflict between the two, and The Sacred Heart, in fact, is mentioned throughout the diary, including one of the very last things St. Faustina records. if you'd like some citations, I can post them for you.
You are of course entitled to not believe in the private revelations of St. Faustina, just as you aren't forced to believe The Sacred Heart Devotion, or Fatima, I for one believe all of those are legitimate. For me the Chaplet is one of my favorite prayers and brings me great peace. Souls are unique, and we aren't all drawn to the same spiritual avenues.

Just because we get something special from this devotion, doesn't preclude a devotion to the Sacred Heart or other traditional devotions. The Divine Mercy devotion has had enormous fruits. That doesn't happen from a lie or a deception. This isn't a competition between different devotions. If you are wrong, by telling people they shouldn't pray this devotion, you would be going against God's Will. Saying someone may replace the rosary with this devotion is a fabricated supposition. They are 2 completely different devotions. That's ridiculous, Father. I'm sorry but I strongly disagree. Devotions have been given to us through the centuries at a time when they are most needed. Isn't it possible that Our Lord Jesus wants the Divine Mercy chaplet prayed to strengthen our devotion to His Sacred, Merciful Heart? Can these two devotions not work together for reparation (atonement) and conversion? Why must it be either/or when it can beautifully be both/and? I thank you for your book recommendations that were most useful and instructive. I don't believe you said to stay away from Sister Faustina's Devine Mercy prayer but to expose us to traditional devotions instead. In this video, at 3:12, we are told to ask ourselves, “”How many saints were nourished by this [Divine Mercy] devotion?” Two saints of the Catholic faith come immediately to mind, Saint Faustina and St. John Paul 2. IMO, Jesus gave us the Divine Mercy devotion in response to a third Saint’s, St.Therese of Lisieux, petition for an elevator to Heaven. IMO, the Divine Mercy devotion is St. Therese’s Elevator to Heaven. Be mindful of St. Therese’s little way, and that she trusted in Jesus’ lifting her up to Heaven. Be also mindful of Matt. 23:13: "How terrible it will be for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door to the kingdom from heaven in people's faces. You don't go in yourselves, and you don't allow those who are trying to enter to go in.” Be also mindful of Isaiah 43:19: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Jesus, I trust in you.

@@chateaumojo Father Michael’s exact words starting at 3:12: “How many saints were nourished by this devotion? How many great Catholic saints practiced this devotion? And you come up, really, with empty handed.” No, you don’t come up empty handed. The Divine Mercy devotion was practiced by two Catholic saints, Saint Faustina and Saint John Paul 2, who died within hours of his having received Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday. At 4:06, Father Michael says, “So, saying this just in general, I would just caution against the Divine Mercy devotions.” No. The Divine Mercy devotion was given to Saint Faustina directly by Jesus. Saint Faustina had only a third grade education. There is just no way that she could have devised this devotion as she recorded in her diary on her own. IMO, Divine Mercy is Jesus’ response to Saint Therese’s prayer for an elevator to Heaven. Instead of taking advantage of this incredible blessing and mercy that Our Lord has given to our generation today, we question its validity and analyze it, so as to cast doubt on it. Father Alar talks of the ABC’s of Divine Mercy, and FINCH (feast of divine mercy, image of divine mercy, novena of Divine Mercy, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the hour of Divine Mercy). Please, read his book, “Understanding Divine Mercy,” he spells it all out for us. IMO, Father Alar someday also should be named a Saint because of his practice of the Divine Mercy devotion, and because of the many souls who will pass through Jesus’ Sacred Heart directly into Heaven because of his leading them to follow the Divine Mercy devotion. I said the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily for a couple of years and learned of Jesus promise concerning saying one of the prayers at someones death bed. One day I was thinking about it and thought to myself, I am never at a person's death bed so how can this be of consequence. The very next day I was at a clients house, to my shock her husband was in the next room and was dying. He had 2 ministers with him who came out of the room for a minute when I was leaving. They saw my Cross necklace and Miraculous metal and perked up and said, Are you Catholic? When I said yes, they asked me if I would say a prayer by this man. You can bet the farm I said that prayer. Jesus is very generous Father, He can add to our devotions any time He wants , it does not take away anything, it adds. Thank you for your question. In Novus Ordo venues, two substitutions have been made in the formula of absolution in the Sacrament of Penance -- "poured out" for "sent" and "grant" for "give":
“God, the Father of mercies, through the Death and Resurrection of His Son has reconciled the world to Himself and poured out (formerly, sent) the Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the church may God grant (formerly, give) you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
The change will not affect the validity of the Sacrament, but for numerous reasons we urge you to have recourse to Sacraments exclusively in the traditional rites and from trustworthy traditional priests. The damage done to souls through receiving faulty counsel in Confession cannot be overstated. God bless you.

Yet the Church has approved the Divine Mercy has it not? Sowing seeds of disunity and confusion seems disingenious. To deny Christ's infinite mercy is to also deny the cross itself. I fail to understand this attack on the Divine Mercy, stemming from the Church Triumphant, the work and devotion of a saint. Or do you actually deny the validity of the Canonisation of St Faustina fr? Genuinely, on what authority? The Divine Mercy has been approved, is widely accepted and does not compete with the Rosary nor any other devotion, traditional or not. How can a devotion be hierarchical? That makes no sense. Many, including myself, say daily Rosary but also on occasion say chaplet of the Divine Mercy and the Church has even granted an indulgence, attached to the Novena of the Divine Mercy when said from Good Friday through to Divine Mercy Sunday, accompanied by confession and communion or do you denounce that also? It is a lovely devotion and the world is in need of God's mercy now more than ever do to dissuade anyone from saying this devotion on personal prejudicial grounds does not seem in keeping with the work of the Holy Spirit. You have yet to offer a valid and evidential explanation for this and I woul genuinely welcome a magisterial validation for your comments...are you willing to stand alone and condemn this devotion as false? If not then what is your motive here?

      Greetings Joe the Crow,
It's not the Novena that's the same as essentially a second baptism, it's the receiving communion in a state of grace on DM Sunday. Also, what's promised is not literally a second baptism, but that not only are the eternal punishments removed for sin (this happens at confession), but the temporal punishment is completely wiped away, that's the promise. In terms of the Feast Day seeming to overshadow Easter, I don't think that is true. Traditionally, the number 8 stands for infinity, or eternity. Divine Mercy Sunday happens on the last day of the Octave of Easter, so as we conclude the highest season in The Church, Christ washes us clean to prepare to enter into eternity. Some pretty cool stuff there.

Fr. Rodriguez is way off base here. First off so many apparitions over the centuries have involved visitations by Our Blessed Mother. St. Faustina began having apparitions of Our Lord Jesus as a teenager, and these were fully manifested once she joined the convent and occurred from 1931 til 1938, the year of her death. Jesus appointed her His secretary, and she wrote His words for us. St. Faustina only had two semesters of school at age 12. Her reading and writing skills were almost nonexistent. Yet her diary is exquisite with beautiful prose and commands from God. She wrote what Jesus commanded. Jesus was the main figure in these apparitions, not Our Blessed Mother! He told her to paint His image. It was not a product of her imagination. The original Vilnius image has been compared to the Shroud of Turin, and they match. Sister Faustina was a poor girl and never saw the Shroud. She could only get the true image from Jesus himself. Father is wrong. Jesus was showing us His mercy and love for all sinners and gave us a path to His mercy and salvation. St. Faustina is trivialised by this priest. Yet there is a movement afoot to make her a doctor of the Church. This humble servant of Our Lord died at the young age of 33, just like Jesus, after severe illness. Jesus, I trust in You! And yes, the chaplet will save your life and bring you home safely!

Sorry father you are wrong about the Divine Mercy devotion. Jesus will stop at nothing to save souls and the Divine Mercy devotion is one of them. Where are you going with this? Even purgatory can be avoided by simple means as taught by St Therese of the Child Jesus. We gain nothing by going there. If you seek God's justice you will find it. If you seek His mercy then you will find that also. Devotion to Fatima is optional as it is based on a private revelation and is not bound under pain of sin if a person does not believe in it. The Divine Mercy is also based on a private revelation but both are approved by the church for the good of souls as far as devotions go and furthering of piety and love for God and His church. To say one is better or worse than the other is dangerous and can become a temptation to despair and loss of faith in God's mercy. I can't understand why you would even address this issue and cast a shadow on its veracity and propensity to cultivate hope faith and love for poor sinners. The mind boggles. Peace.

Thank you, Fr. Rodriguez, for the gentle way you handled this question. I prayed the Chaplet for years before I realized that it doesn't ask for the things that the Fatima prayers teach us to ask for, namely reparation and conversion. The Divine Mercy prayers are but a shadow of the Fatima prayers. Stick to Fatima!

      Hello Jim,
Actually the chaplet’s wording is either more or equally reparative to the rosary. Perhaps that’s going to trigger some people, but it’s true. (I’m not saying the chaplet is more important than the rosary, I’m just making a point) I’d like to encourage you to read the diary for yourself and see that the claim that there’s no call for conversion and nothing about reparation is simply false. check out the original wording for Day 5 of the novena of Divine Mercy, for instance. The prayers do not pale in comparison, they are different and for different means. As much as the Fatima prayers are great they’re different from The Chaplet. the worth of a prayer is not necessarily in the beauty of its wording, or how much glorious words are used, or poetic description given, those are good of course, but aren’t needed for every prayer. The beauty of the DM chaplet is that they’re prayers that are short but meaningful, able to be repeated while easily meditating on the Passion and begging The Father for mercy through it.
We are all unique souls, and not all of us are drawn to the same spiritual specialization (Franciscans, Dominicans, etc.) , so perhaps this prayer doesn’t appeal to your soul, but it does mine. For instance, this appeals to me more than the Fatima prayers, but I’m not going to say that they ‘pale’ in comparison.
      Sincerely,
      Joshua

@@joshdalf9493 Hello Josh, I really appreciate your sincere reply and I hope to reply to you in the same way. First, my reference to the Fatima prayers was to the prayers taught by the angel and Our Lady, not specifically to the Rosary itself. An example, check out the Angel Prayer that begins, "Most Holy Trinity..." The details of that prayer I had in mind when I said that the Divine Mercy prayers pale in comparison. Secondly, I'm interested that you mentioned the 5th day novena prayer as an example of prayer for conversion. That prayer say, "Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter passion..." That doesn't seem to me to be a petition for conversion, rather it is entirely along the lines of Martin Luther's "snow covered dung hill" understanding of justification, which is not orthodox. I also point out that the other Novena days 1 and 4 that should call for conversion are similarly vague. You point out that the Fatima prayers are different, and that is exactly correct. I left the Church many years ago for Protestantism. My father challenged me, "What do you do with Fatima?" I studied it and the first impression was that there was a very different spirit there than that of Protestantism. In time, I had to conclude that both could not be right. One final thought for your consideration, in the last interview Sr Lucy was permitted in 1957, she said that Mary told her and her cousins that the Rosary and devotion to her Immaculate heart were the last that would be given to us. You can read that interview here: www.traditioninaction.org/HotTopics/g23ht_Interview.html

@@jimsember3528 Hi Jim, I’m sorry I just realized you responded. I’m happy to hear of your conversion.
I disagree that the chaplet of DM pales in comparison to other prayers. The beauty of a prayer is not necessarily in its poetic descriptions; whereas those are of course good, the chaplet’s simple yet meaningful prayers allow for easy contemplation. The Fatima prayers added at the end of every decade is echoed in St Faustina’s diary that says that the greater the sinner the greater right to God’s Mercy. Look up entry 818.
Regarding reparation I’ve only just started looking for it in the diary, check entries 80, 81, 1276. (Not a thorough search by any means, I’ve read through the diary years ago, I’m just catching these as I see them here and there; there’s likely plenty more)
Regarding the 5th day of the novena, I’m not sure where you’re looking up the days, but it reads, “Today bring to Me the (might be “the souls of the heretics and the schismatics”) heretics and schismatics, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. *As they return to unity with the Church* , My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion.” Clearly this is praying for their conversion.
If you’re referring to St Faustina’s prayer that follows, asking God to not look upon their sins but rather the merits of The Passion is not wrong as a conversion prayer. Conversion is a Mercy. EDIT: I have found the place in the diary where the novena appears. Look up “St Faustina’s diary entry 1209 and keep reading down. St Faustina literally prays for their return to The Church in day 5
The 4th day is, “Today bring to Me The PAGANS AND THOSE WHO *DO NOT YET KNOW ME* . I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their *future zeal* comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy.”
Day 9 is for the look warm souls. Day 1 is a little generic, because it’s literally for all of the world.
Also, St Faustina has a vision of hell, and purgatory. There are tons of instances about the True Presence. The main thing to do at 3 o’clock is to literally pray for the conversion of sinners.
There are tons of calls to confession and repentance throughout. I highly suggest you read it for yourself. The promises attached to the Feast if Divine Mercy literally requires one has gone to confession (has repented) and receives Holy Communion (which is referring to The One True Church, obviously, as the devotion came to The Church and the novena prays for the conversion of the heretics and the schismatics)
Tradition in Actions articles on the subject are so biased that it isn’t even funny, and one of the books one of their articles quote should cause them to be ashamed for citing it: it cites St Faustina not smelling good as she dies a painful death of tuberculosis as a concern. *some* saints smelled good in their death/suffering. It also is wrong about alleged failed prophecies which it cites 3:1 is a misunderstanding, the other 2 actually came true. As well as interpreting lines from her diary uncharitably in the worst way possible when there exists other possibilities. In addition I’m reading ‘The Admirable Life of Mother Mariana vol 1’ published by TIA I’m about half way through and have already caught things that either they or that book they cite would object to(if it were in St Faustina’s diary, that is). When I buy volume 2, I’m getting it used; they aren’t getting my money. It is also ironic how they attack the devotion for being favored by St. John Paul II when their old DVD about Our Lady of The Good Event of the Purification (Good Success) cites the official recognition of the location/devotion by none other than St. JP II. They also said that whereas St Faustina did predict things correctly that doesn’t mean she’s legitimate; yet, they cite all of the prophecies of Our Lady of Good Success as proof of its legitimacy.
For the record, I believe that both St Faustina’ and Mother Mariana’s private revelations are true.
If there are some specific objections from their articles that you’d like to be addressed, please relay them here. I can even explain how the prophecies that they think failed actually came true(this one is understandable that they got it wrong).
Some also quote something similar about The Sacred Heart being the last hope of mankind, but I think it all comes down to translation, or a pedantic examination . Not all languages translate well into English either, and I think that sometimes private revelations speak in the singular to give emphasis, not absolutism. I.e: "....in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary to obtain the peace of the world and the end of the war. For *She alone* will be able to help." Further, whereas the Divine Mercy and Sacred Heart are strictly speaking different in origin (both from Heaven in my honest view, but I mean different times and saints), I contend that the DM is a continuation of the SH which is of itself further (private) revelation of Christ(the SH is devotion to Christ as a person not just simply His Heart, therefore any further development of devotion to Christ is a continuation) So unless the message “The last means that God will give to the world for its salvation are the Holy Rosary and My Immaculate Heart” removes devotions to Christ, there's not an issue here.
      Sincerely,
      Joshua

Fr, with all due respect, you did not provide a good reason. By your logic, Fatima isn’t a good devotion either because it doesn’t have centuries of backing from saints. Yet both Fatima and Divine Mercy chaplet are approved by the church. But let’s be clear: you don’t have to be devoted to anything to be a good Catholic. To me, this is all an attack on a worthy, Church approved devotion just because it became popular in the last 50 years, which is basically post Vatican II. Never mind that Saint Faustina was still what many today would consider a traditional Catholic. I’ve personally been compelled to follow Our Lady of Fatima, the Divine Mercy chaplet, and the Passion of Jesus Christ, particularly wearing the scapular of the passion. Is anyone else compelled to wear these? No? That’s okay 👌

That fact is indeed one for consideration, about her being the first Saint of the 21st century. They didn’t fast track her by waving the miracle requirement(yes it was no longer 3, but do you think God would be stopped? She would’ve gotten what she needed, in fact she may have many claim miracles from her + devotion), they waited for the miracle, and they got it. There’s a lot about The Divine Mercy that can’t be summed up to coincidence, and it isn’t going to be some fanciful “devotional infiltration “ of modernism, as it punches modernism in the gut throughout. (Praying for the heretics and schismatics Day 5 of the Novena, majority of souls/majority of souls she sees in hell are those who didn’t believe hell existed, calls to repentance & confession, etc.)

@@E.C.2 thank you for exemplifying exactly what I said. I already pray the sacred heart novena. For me, what has and is working is depending on the Mother of God and entrusting myself entirely to Her and that includes being open to all her messages. Because I painfully know clearly-thanks to her-the TOTAL DECEPTION WITHIN THE CHURCH DUE TO INFILTRATION, I realize that many spiritual things are buried and obfuscated and thus confusing. This reality-which humanity has deserved and which is necessary for purification-is precisely why Our Lady insists in appearing and guiding us with her messages; she is replacing the lack of direction we have due to failing clergy. Instead of pridefully relying exclusively on my own study of the magisterium on questions which only a legitimate pope would be able to clarify definitively, instead of pretending that there hasn’t been an unholy battle Judas-inspired decisions within the episcopate on many matters of devotion and private revelation (example: divine mercy, Garabandal, Civitavecchia, Maria Valtorta, Maria Natalia Magdolna, etc.) that have succeeded in hiding and diluting the crucial guidance of Our Most Blessed Mother, I have sought to regard these realities humbly while I seek out Our Lady’s direction. She has worked the miracles in my life together with the mercy of Christ, gently leading me from the victim of satanic attacks as a child, to multiple mortal sinning in early adulthood to full attachment to Christ in the Eucharist, in the tabernacle, to His passion through the rosary and my dear FSSPX priests. I respect the hierarchy of authority as much as possible without falling into the temptation of false obedience. I judge who to obey based on the authority’s own obedience to the Truth. It’s about being little. Even if you are a theologian, you are subject to deception and temptation, even more actually, so I suggest you stop speaking about these matters as if you have THE ANSWER and start humbly taking into consideration what I am telling you. I sought out God and the truth, and I was saved from hell eventually when I went to confession after 20 years and this occurred THANKS TO THE DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE which I am CERTAIN is Jesus’s gift for our times just as he gave the gift of His Sacred Heart devotion when needed in a different era. In order to have the truth about this, without deception obfuscating it, consecrate yourself to Jesus through Mary’s Immaculate Heart and rely on her for right understanding. I also recommend the blue book of father Stefano Gobbi of the MSM (approved by bishops all over the world) in which she explains a lot about everything.
