Great video thanks. I am interested in places that are far away from the tourist trail. The people of Yumuzhai must have been prosperous in the past. The stone work of the old buildings is very high quality, which suggests wealth. You also mentioned 'troops', which suggests some kind of organized army or militia, which is not cheap.
It must've looked so amazing when the tombs were originally painted red against the backdrop of steep farmlands. The Tujia architecture also looks very interesting and unique with its figurines depicting their culture.Thankyou so much for this echo into the past.

Those vegetable plots at 8:06 definitely look like they are still being actively cultivated. Perhaps the farmers no longer live on the premises full time due to the lack of local infrastructure and services, but the land is not completely abandoned.

Do relatives of these people live near by? I have a large white jade carved bead found many yrs. ago. A gift from a gemstone dealer in 1980 that sold Hubei Chinese turquoise in Tucson AZ. Farmers would find these rare items from run off in the mountains, very beautiful, and rare to see. rhese sacred homelands. The carved motif on the buildings is similar to the carving in this rare bead. Thank you so much ~
