My eyes drank up everything you showed us: the paths, the buildings, the rivers, the stone walls. We’re in Canada so we don’t have much that’s so old and beautiful as this. It seems too beautiful to be part of this earth. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for this. It's amazing when you read of the death and suffering, the squalid conditions, the Brontes working on their masterpieces etc. Then the contrast of today, where it's a quaint little village, peaceful, healthful, with people walking the same cobbled hill; Iphone in hand, filming locations where all this took place almost 200 years ago.

Hi JSkillz, we think it is fabulous that the streets and buildings of the Bronte era has been preserved, you can certainly get a bit of the atmosphere of how they lived. We have been into hundreds of churchyards but we have never seen any graveyard so packed as this one with graves virtually touching each other. Reading some of the dates and inscriptions on some of the headstones really gives a sense of how hard the times were for the Brontes with the lack of good health, poverty and TB which was rife at the time. After a short while we were relieved to leave the graveyard and start our walk as we made our way up towards Top Withins we knew why we had come what a fabulous place. In the day the moor must have been a fabulous release for the Bronte sisters to let their imaginations run wild. Because of their escape to the moor away from the drudgery of the time they were able to capture and create the fabulous stories we are still fascinated by and still enjoy today. All the best The Taxi Driver

@@thetaxidriverj Yeah, talking about it being packed: I heard a couple of things about that grave yard. Firstly, that it's estimated that around 40k people were burried there! 😮 That the water supply was contaminated because it ran through it, and because they put the grave stones flat onto the ground, it prevented any growth on the surface, which apparently is the natural pathway for gasses from decomposing bodies to escape the ground.
I didn't know that before; it seems like all that water the town were drinking/bathing in was absorbing all these nasties.
I doubt that lead to TB, since TB is generally passed on from person to person via droplets in the air. However, I suspect the immune systems of the majority of the people in that area, were severely weakened by the diseases they picked up from the water, thus making them more susceptible to deadly diseases, like TB.
It amazes me that people like the brontes from that area, at that time, had even the slightest inclination to study, and read as much as they evidently did. With so much early death around, it almost seems futile to endeavour to better yourself like that; thank God they did! 🙂

Such beautiful countryside. And that sheep was so sweet, as were the grouse.

Hi Summergreen, thank you for your comment. Its hard to believe that three sisters from one family living in the age that they did could turn out to be outstanding women writers. They get admired more and more as time goes by. The trip to Haworth is like making a pilgrimage to be able to see where the sisters had lived and then go out on to the moors to see where they got their inspiration from. We seemed to be hours filming on the moors but it was over in a flash. When we stopped at Top Withins for a break we were joined by the friendliest sheep in the Dales who wanted a bite of our sandwiches, we were glad to oblige. As we made our way back into Haworth we were lucky enough to see a lady leading a walk onto the moors dressed up as one of the Bronte sisters, we think it was Charlotte but not sure. As we made our way home we smiled as we realised we had been up to Wuthering Heights and were not disappointed. All the best The Taxi Driver.

Thank you for the upload. Did this walk today and it helped us know what to expect. We looked at it again after finishing the hike and it is a wonderful memory for us. It turns out we did the exact same route. It took us 5 hours!!

Hi sonja n, sounds like you had a fabulous day we had great fun at Top Withins especially when the sheep wanted our sandwiches, they took them out of our hands. It's amazing what fantastic stories the Bronte sisters wrote, they certainly had fabulous imaginations. We think 5 hours is great taking everything in and not rushing the walk. Hi Robin and wife, thankyou for you comment its nice to hear from you. We were up in the Yorkshire Dales on Wednesday not filming but just enjoying the beautiful countryside and the spring lambs. July is a fantastic time to walk in the dales, the wild flower meadows are at their best with plenty of wildlife skylarks curlew etc. Have a great time and keep watching. Hi Rune, thank you. Bronte Country is a beautiful part of the Uk. The Bronte girls certainly produced some wonderful books although it must have been very bleak in the winter to live in Howarth them days but lovely in the summer. All the best The Taxi Driver

3:56 looks like a dangerous part with cars showing up. I think that part isn't for long, but still scares me. I prefer the parts away from the roads. Do you all have mold monitors in the area to learn what time of year is better to avoid mold in the air??? Weird question I guess, but I'm very sensitive to molds and can't linger outside when they are bad. Our local weather report will list the molds each day here. I appreciate the video. Thank you.

Hi TheBrokenBMW, we hope you had a great day. This is a lovely walk but because of the shortness of the day while filming we didn't spend enough time there but we did manage to shared our sandwiches with the very friendly sheep at Top Withins and visit the steam train which was fabulous.
