- Our video is a guided walk around Holmfirth, "Last of the Summer Wine" country in West Yorkshire. We start our walk from the centre of Holmfirth and head for the countryside above the town to Netherthong. We continue through the fields to Oldfield Road near Honley then make our way to Hagg Wood and then basically follow the River Holme back to Holmfirth. This is a moderate walk, with beautiful views of the Holme Valley, on public footpaths and tracks through fields and woods. There are steep steps, some moderate inclines and declines and sections of road without pavement. Elevation: Lowest Point approx 119 m (390 ft) Highest Point approx 214 m (703 ft). Approx 5.5 miles allow 2 hours 15 minutes using OS Explorer Map 288, Bradford and Huddersfield. Start Point: Holmfirth Tourist Information Centre. For more info please see our website.
Thank you so much for this! Will be visiting Holmfirth this coming July and this is going to be so handy for exploring without getting lost.
Lovely country, thanks for the walking tour. I've watched LOTSW for quite a few years and really enjoy all the characters and their slow pace of life. Cheers from Arizona. 😊
My favorite show of all time. You must have walked 100 miles!
Hi Richard, even though the characters aren't there anymore the place still has that magic about it. Doing a walk here adds to a full days entertainment. We did four walks in the Holmfirth area. Having visited Compo's grave we still need to go back to see Cleggy's grave, that's when we get some spare time. Hope to be out filming again soon. All the best The Taxi Driver
Many thanks to the Taxi Driver! We've just returned from Holmfirth & did this walk following your directions, which I wrote out beforehand. A really interesting walk full of interest & directions were spot on. Holmfirth is a charming place.
Hi Stephen we only intended to do one walk in Holmfirth, but such a lovely place we ended up doing four, all great walks. Thanks for watching i don't know if we will get back to do a fifth. All the best The Taxi Driver
Going to live there in one years time. I love the place I will be retired. Thank god
Hi Stuart we are sure you will have a lovely retirement in Holmfirth. There are plenty of walks in the area with wonderful views and we often think we should get there more often. Thank you and all the best The Taxi Driver

Since a teen and a fan of the show in the us, I've always of visiting Holm firth. Drawing and sketching this town would be very amusing and fun. Thanks for doing this vid. The ducks were lovely.
Hi Mercedes in the US. Holmfirth is just like you see it on telly. Its a great place and we were very lucky when we were filming that day to capture the ducklings. Every time we visit Holmfirth we always walk up to Netherthong cemetery to have a look at Compo's grave and his wellies. All the best The Taxi Driver

Hello TykeLad101, Sorry we have not replied sooner we have been making as many videos as we can while the weather is good. This is a selection of videos to come in the next few weeks or so. Two in Cornwall, Three in the Cotswolds, Whitby, Bronte Country, Lake District, Lancashire and two more in Last of the Summer Wine Country. If the weather holds we have got a lot more planned. Nice to hear from you again. John and Janice (The Taxi Driver)

Cheers Stuart, we were very lucky when we filmed this walk, everything just dropped into place. Holmfirth is a lovely place we loved it so much we filmed three more walks there. If you want some fun and a great day out go searching for the Big Sausage, we videod this walk so take a look and do the walk especially with a few friends. All the best The Taxi Driver
Another lovely journey! Thank you, Mr Taxi Driver! Your films give me such a wonderful and much needed sense of peace. The only question I ever has is - How do you know where you're going? I keep expecting to hear, "Oh dear. We're lost. But there's a charming little finch here in the bushes." :D
I love this video. I live in Oklahoma, in the United States. We were able to watch Last of the Summer Wine on PBS (public broadcasting system), but they recently stopped showing it. When we found this video, my daughter & I loved it immediately. I'll watch this when I am missing the show. The wildlife & scenery is very beautiful. Thank you so so much! I would love to travel to the UK, but will probably never be able to. So I very much appreciate these videos.
Hello PS PLS in Oklahoma thank you. Holmfirth is a lovely part of our country and we have done four videos in the area if you haven't seen them. We live in North Yorkshire and Holmfirth is only about an hours drive away. We were very sad when we heard that the two actresses that played Pearl and Marina had died recently. As you enter Holmfirth it is a timeless place and is so easy to think that you could bump into any of the actors and actresses. Have a great Christmas all the best The Taxi Driver England.

Hi Jonathan, if you take a look at our website "walkingwiththetaxidriver.co.uk" and look under the heading West Yorkshire there is a write up with pictures and the video for this walk plus some more walks in the area. Have a fantastic time if you get there all the best The Taxi Driver
This just might be the walk for my sister and I to do when we come over in May. Our home base is Huddersfield; what do you think?
Hi Lana, yes this would be a great walk as Huddersfield is not far away from Holmfirth. In Holmfirth you can visit Sid's Cafe and the home of Nora Batty and just up the road at Netherthong there are the graves of Compo and Clegg. We have actually filmed four walks in the area. Hope you have a great time all the best The Taxi Driver
and "No".....I wasn't referring to the video having no "use".
what's the use............
It is pronounced 'Ollergurt...not Hollowgate.
Hee hee.
Have you done an All Creatures Great and Small country walk?
Hi Lana, when the series was being filmed the actors stayed at a small village of Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales. We have stayed there ourselves and filmed a walk from there to Mill Gill and Whitfield Gill Force. In the pub where the actors stayed there are pictures of the actors displayed on the walls and you can also have a meal there. All the best The Taxi Driver
Please can you e mail this exact route please?
