- Haworth in West Yorkshire is one of the most famous and most beautiful villages in England.
What makes it one of the most beautiful villages in England?
Haworth is frozen in time to the era when the Bronte Sisters walked the cobbled streets. Many of the buildings they would have frequented still exist and the village retains its Bronte connections everywhere. Join us for a lovely walk around the village and find out the history and why we think it is one of the most beautiful villages in England.
Note that we have covered the Bronte Sister's Life Story in this separate video
• Charlotte, Anne & Emil...
And visited the Parsonage for a full in-depth tour in this video.

Guys, this Yorkshire series is - without question - the single best travel series on UA-cam (and I follow dozens of channels). Of course, I’m of Yorkshire descent, but that’s not even why I love this series. Your videography is wonderful. Your research is exceptional. Your narration is flawless. Everything comes together in a relaxing and gentle flow that makes watching a pleasure. Why the BBC hasn’t snapped you up and given you a contract is beyond me. This is not flattery. I’m a longtime fan of this channel. But your Yorkshire videos are a cut above. Anyone who loves England MUST watch these. And, if there is an awards system for UA-cam videos, you MUST enter these. I very much appreciate all the work that went into them.
Thanks so much Todd, that was a very kind comment. So glad you have enjoyed the Yorkshire ones. We have really enjoyed making them!
Absolutely delighted with your wonderful tours - I'm a real anglophile but have only been to England once and am unlikely to be able to go back, so I live vicariously through your tours!
Shame you cannot make it back. Really glad we can at least share them with you virtually.
A quintessential English village. Thanks for sharing. G'Day from Australia.
I think it really is from that era. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for this! I am ecstatic that I found your channel!!!!! I'm in TN the US and after watching every episode of 'All Creatures', the original, I fell in love with Yorkshire, therefore, I long to retire there someday!!!!!!!! 💜🙏🍁🍂
Welcome to the channel, glad you are enjoying our series in Yorkshire. Hope you like some of the other places we go as well.
What a lovely village, i appreciate u both with all my heart for exploring immense beauty of England villages, bringing back to the facts of once lived enormously.. streets , food, buildings, the whole picturesque is so bewitching & such a peaceful surroundings, all this just mind-blowing & so calming.. the video clarity & background music is perfect & mesmerizing, that I would definitely live my whole life in such a amazing village.. thank u for sharing
Wonderful words, they reflect my feelings exactly.
So glad, as always Harsha, that you enjoy our tours in Yorkshire. You always write such lovely messages.
@@MemorySeekers thank u
Thanks a lot for including the evening scenery. It was quite revealing. The night was totally different from the day time.
Yes it was amazing, we were lucky to still be there. Not something you get to see everyday.
Such a picturesque village. I would love to roam the streets & take in the beautiful scenery. I know in my heart I was definitely born in the wrong country....lol! Thanks guys!
It really is very beautiful. I wish you come over and visit. Have you ever been to the UK?
@@MemorySeekers I was over there 2015. I was in London, Canterbury & Dover. My husband & I have a trip planned for September 2023. Thanks to your videos we plan on visiting York, Winchester & Bath. I absolutely cannot wait! I also have a lot of family history there. I love you guys & I truly appreciate your videos.
Sounds like it will be a wonderful trip. So nice to hear you will be visiting places we have been! I bet you cannot wait. 😊
Time has stopped!!!
I feel engrossed in this recording. Walking, sightseeing breathing. It's complete relaxation!!!
This village is a fairy tale!
Everything is so incredibly magical!
Thank you for a wonderful, magical film!!! Best regards 👏😘😍
So please you enjoyed it so much.
@@MemorySeekers Thank you very much.

I didnt know Yorkshire was such an amzing place. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Haworth. Its so quaint with a lot of character.
So glad you enjoyed it and yes it is amazing and we only scrapped the surface with our time there!
Dear Simon and Will what a beautiful video , haworth is such a mesmerising village , we 've had the feeling of walking right next to you through the beautiful cobbled streets.Amazing ,and a great video ,all of the historic informations , brilliant ,thank you so very much sharing it with us.loved so much watching it.🤩🤩greetings from hamburg
Hello Erika, thank you for the lovely comment. So glad you enjoyed our walk around. It was so wonderful to be there and experience it day and night. So different.
I really enjoyed this video. The town is so beautiful and seems to be beautifully kept the people there seem proud of the heritage. How lovely to glimpse the past in todays world.
Glad you enjoyed it, yes I think they are really proud of it and they should be!
England🏴😍❤️
Lovely video! And great information about this history of the village, as always. The narrow streets and historic stone buildings help us feel transported back in time. Thanks for taking us along virtually!
No problem at all. We glad you joined us!
How lovely! You could almost feel yourself sinking back in time with the sun setting and the street lamps coming on. What a sense of history and time. Love the quaint little shops and cottages.
So pleased it came across well and you enjoyed it.
I love this village..........the scenery in this village looks like diagon alley in harry potter movie
Lovely is the first word that always occurs to me whenever I think of the Village of Haworth. I still have the Bronte book I purchased at the local bookstore back in 1974. Spent most of my time there haunting the Church cemetery. It was the highlight of my student trip from Kean College in New Jersey. Does not appear to have changed much. Enchanting.
I wish at least one American town or village could like like Haworth. I enjoyed your tour, and I also like your videos on the Bronte family. In this video, I can easily imagine a young woman in Georgian or 1840's Victorian dress carefully walking down a cobblestoned hill.
So glad you have enjoyed the videos around Haworth and the Brontes.
Excellent tour of Haworth - the clarity of the filming was so good. I loved every minute of it. Yes, shame they didnt retain some vintage character of the Black Bull. Ive enjoyed your videos on the Brontes and even learned a few things I didnt know. Looking forward to Thirsk, that will be great to see as well. Really loving your channel. Thank you.
Thank you Mary, so pleased you are enjoying the videos.
I agree the atmosphere with the lighting in the evening was special. 🦘🐨🦘🐨😷
So do we!
These videos are both lovely and informative. I live in the South in the US, where the landscape is quite different; thanks for bringing close-ups of Yorkshire to me!
You are so welcome, we have more on Yorkshire in the coming weeks and our entire playlist from last year.
As a resident of Haworth I loved your film. You've really captured the character of the place. Just a note, though. The "starlings" you refer to towards the end are actually rooks, hundreds of which nest in the trees in the church yard.
Thank you, it means a lot to know a local has enjoyed it. I am sure you have many more stories than we could ever know about the village. My bad on the birds, although someone else has said they are crows? Not that up on my birds.
You can imagine women in long dresses and shawls with woven baskets tucked under their arms to carry the groceries and men in cloth caps and waistcoats walking the streets. I love that Patrick had the forethought to push for better living conditions. Once again you've outdone yourselves. Thank you =-)
Thank you for the vivid description, it certainly gets the mind going on what it was like in the past.
Thank you so much for a wonderful tour of Haworth. The night scenes were so atmospheric. As you said, just like stepping back into Victorian times. The village would look stunning at Christmas. You did an amazing job.
Apparently it is amazing at Christmas. I would love to visit then. I wish we lived closer!
I was lucky enough to have been born at Haworth. Wonderful memories of the people that were alive there in the 1960's (especially "Harry the Hat" and Mrs Berry behind the counter at Southams Bakery. I also attended the Sunday School, which in those days was unchanged since the Brontes)
and Christened at St Michael's
Lovely to hear your personal memories of a special place for you. Thank you for sharing.
@@MemorySeekers Southams was the second shop in from the church steps and the stocks; opposite to what was (Michael) Snowden's green grocer which is now the craft ale bar. Next to Snowdens was a butcher's shop. The Tourist Information stored old furniture (not for sale. It wasn't a shop) The only "tourist shops" down the Main Street was Villette cafe on the right (top side of what was Mitchell's newsagent). and a little gift shop almost opposite. The bottom shop on the left (before you descend down Butt Lane) was a ladies hairdresser with all the hair dryers in a row by the window. Down Butt Lane in a little field on the left (before the Rawden Road by-pass was built) was a little blue wooden shack that sold sweets and lollies. Opposite the Sun on West Lane is the Methodist Chapel where we used to watch the Xmas pantomime. I saw Mother Goose and all those taking part lived in the village. My dad was the village bobby and helped on traffic duty when they were filming the Railway Children. He became drinking pals with Bernard Cribbens in the Black Bull. The final scene shows all the Haworth "big wigs" walking on the railway line, waving. Dad could name them all. My doctor was a Dambuster. Weaver's Restaurant was Keith's Café (Keith Ackroyd). Opposite there where there are now houses, was a petrol station. Up Dimples Lane (beyond the Rabbit Hill (known by visitors as "Penistone Hill) was a garage that did MOTs and such. The infilled quarry which is now a car park - was the dump for everybody's cars, including my dad's. Finally, on there was a cafe on the moors (near to the cemetery. It was on the news in the 1960's when a coachful of tourists heading for a cuppa, slipped sideways down into the field below.
The first time I visited Haworth was in ‘97. Apart from the literary attraction, I was especially fascinated by the Worth Valley Railway. I lived in West Yorkshire for a couple of years on board a narrowboat which was bui]t on the Calder Navigation & fitted out at Aperly Bridge. I then moved to a marina on the North Oxford Canal.
I was born not far from Apperley Bridge. My Father was a railway man when steam trains ran everywhere. I miss a lot about West Yorks and Haworth is fascinating.
Thank you for sharing a personal story, what a wonderful way to live on the canal. Must try that experience one day (even if just for a holiday). Always fascinated me!
Simon and Will, your work is enriching and delightful. Thank you.
I’m wondering if you intend to explore Lancastershire, which is where my maternal grandfather was born and raised-in Low Bentham. I look at the Yorkshire vids and think that there might be some resemblance to the shire next door. As a Yankee (my grandfather, one Fred Bolton, emigrated as a young widower and married my grandmother in Trenton, Ontario) I have been to England, Scotland and Ireland, but did not manage to get to Lancastershire. I’ll keep watching and hoping! 😉❤️🙏🏼💥
I certainly hope one day we will back up that way and explore Lancashire. We live quite far away so would need a good week like we had in Yorkshire to get in lots of exploring.
Such a beautiful little village of Haworth. Thanks for sharing and the evening scenery was also so enchanting!
Thank you for the beautiful video. What a great idea to also film during the evening. That was magical! All the best from Canada.
I am so glad we stuck around to do it. Such a contrast and actually I preferred that time of day. The rain added a lovely dimension.
A truly wonderful village. I visited this place in the early 70s and it has hardly changed
My local lovely Yorkshire village Haworth full of history and culture and memories for me proud to be from around here ❤
Enjoyed that so much. The lights in the evening with the rain created a beautiful atmosphere.
Yes its not often you want the rain but this time it really made it magical.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful!! The last bit of the video showing the evening with all those glowing lights on in the shops was quite magical. Thanks again guys.
It was a highlight for us as well. We were so lucky to be staying over nearby. So few get to stay in the evening when visiting and you really miss out on something special at that time of day.
Love seeing Haworth at night, so atmospheric
We loved it at night and the rain added to the mysterious feel. Great to be around when the crowds have gone home.
Absolutely delightful and beautiful village! Thank you again for yet another excellent video of one of my favorite places in England, and the world!!!
Living only 10 miles from Haworth I do still visit regularly. Though these days it takes me a lot longer to walk back up the hill 🤣. We always butter our parkin 😋
OOOOO butter on a parkin! Now that sounds a great idea.😋
My sister in law lives in Haworth. A lovely place I might be relocating I think.
What a place to live, just lovely.
What a beautiful village! Thanks for another great video, from Texas USA.
Thank you for watching.
My home since I was born 38 years in I’d live nowhere else. My ashes will lay here ❤️
Haworth ist ja so ein tolles Städtchen.
Vielen Dank für dieses schöne Video 💖👍👋
Ich stimme voll und ganz zu, es ist einer unserer Favoriten.
Thanks again Simon and Will for another great video. Loved it! Haworth looks like a little piece of heaven. If I ever made back to England I’d 💯visit there. It really is like stepping back a couple of hundred years. As I I’ve said before, the Bronte family and their stories moved me beyond compare. I’m grateful that I can visit them again thanks to your high quality videos. Take care of each other and as always I look forward to next week! ❤

The channel can take our
Past and our heritage
Beautiful country's past from us
I commend your country on keeping history alive! When the money of a community dies, the people find ways to bring in new money with tourism and the like.Where here,if the money leaves,so does the buildings eventually. They fall into ruin mostly. The town buildings are lovely! Thanks for the tours!
We do have some super preserved places and am so glad that Haworth is one of them for sure. Lovely to hear you enjoy the tours.
Another beautifully-produced video of this fascinating area. Your dedication in filming from early morning to night gave a wonderful impression of the town in all its moods. The potted history always adds a lot; the shockingly-low life expectancy shed light on just how different conditions were in those days - and how lucky we are now!
Glad you enjoyed it Jim, thank you as always.
Haworth also famously appeared briefly in one of my all time favorite films, Rita, Sue And Bob Too
Yet again a lovely journey. More cobbles and such steep walking, you will both be keeping fit while showing us this lovely area. Looking forward to next week. Thanks again cheers Cheryl 🙂
I wish were keeping fit! Haha We do enjoy the walks even if we grumble privately about some of the steep climbs! 😂😊
I live in Thornton Bradford near to where the Bronte's were born so have been to Haworth a few times but have never seen it at night it looked so different thanks for such a great video 👍
Its quite magical at night and so quiet!
Loved this video! Especially the evening walk…could almost feel and smell the atmosphere. Thanks for taking us along.
So glad you liked it. Everyone seems to have enjoyed the evening part! We certainly did.
I so enjoy watching all your videos, it’s like going back in time. I simply must return to England some day and experience these beautiful villages for myself.
Thank you so much 😊
We hope you do come and visit again. A video can never do it justice.
Как уютно на вашем канале, тихо и спокойно на душе. Спасибо вам за труд !
Спасибо, очень приятно, что вам нравится смотреть наши видео.
What an enchanting place. Loved every minute of the tour.
So glad thank you Marsha 😊
Great as usual. I had to wait all day before I could watch. So interesting. Thanks so for this wonderful treat. Hugs and blessings.oh wanted to say how much I enjoy the night shots.
Thank you Joen, so please you enjoyed it. I think the night time was so magical, I will never forget our walk that is for sure.
Oh I did enjoy but was so tired I need to watch again. I might have missed something. Lol.
I enjoyed this very very much thank you from Newzealand.
Thank you for watching.
Magic and lovely places. Thank you very much for sharing them with us💙
My pleasure 😊
Thank you. I am loving all your videos. This one was particularly enjoyable because we got to see you 'interact' with the town, having the ginger biscuit - which gives more interest and also gave us time to digest all the historical information. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Unfortunately, poor as a churchmouse here, so can't contribute at the current time. Hope to do so in the future!
So glad you enjoyed it, we are more than glad to have you watching which is wonderful support for us. Happy Christmas 🎅
What an amazing video!! This is the next best thing to actually travelling. Thank you for sharing your amazing mini docu-series!
Our pleasure, thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I'm from South Africa, have only traveled through England twice in my life, many years ago, I'm green with envy when I watch these, the towns are simply gorgeously beautiful and the countryside unparalleled!
What a pretty place to visit! Thank you for the video, from Florida USA ❤️
Thank you for watching.
As usual, another lovely video!!! I've appreciated it a lot!!!👍👏👏👏🙋🏻♀️🇧🇷
Thank you very much!
Years ago I was working in the old school .an American tourist asked if he could look round and take some photos. there was only me there so I told him I didn't think it was open to the public but if he was quick it should be ok, it was only an empty building with a few old desks and seats in a store room . He spent about 10 minutes looking round and taking photos . When he left he had a smile on his face that looked like it would last a lifetime. I have friends that live in Haworth and I drive through it every week , I don't appreciate what's on my door step
Another truly beautiful village its lovely to see streets and road without signs and road marking , you chaps do a fantastic job , thank you.
Thank you it is one our favs
You guys are quality. I enjoyed this. As well as the wording which is quite learned and eloquent.
Much appreciated! Thank you :)
Louey ❤🙋♀️
It's a lovely village. It's hard to imagine the hard lives people lived in an earlier time. Exercise would certainly be a given if you walked the streets. Everything seems to be uphill.
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
One of my Ancestors was Cardinal of York!
I can’t believe I’m only NOW clicking on your channel when I’ve seen it scrolling. Finally stopped and I SM HOOKED! Definitely hit SUBSCRIBE right away. I’m too poor to go to all these places and you show them so well! The narration isn’t excessive but the narrator has a great voice. I can travel through you! Thank you for that!!!!

Thank you! That brought back a lot of fond Yorkshire memories while I had an afternoon tea break (Yorkshire Tea, of course!) Haworth is even lovelier after nightfall... I'll have to stay in one of the inns on a future trip and enjoy the quiet spookiness.
So glad you we stirred the memories! I would recommend staying the night, we are so glad we were near by to allow us to be there after dark. Well worth it.
