Ozzy Alek And DJ charging without hesitation into a barn full of terrifying lunatics wearing walker skins on their faces to save a bunch of complete and utter random strangers is perhaps the most heroic thing anyone on the show has ever done 5 years later and it still saddens me that they died but we will never forget their final act that they died as heroes.
Especially the fact that all three of them started out as enemies. DJ was a Savior and caused problems even after the war when Justin was murdered, but he stepped up even after that once the Sanctuary went bust. And the Highwaymen were literally introduced as a sub-villain group, but a mere two episodes later died as heroes of the story alongside DJ. There's something about redemption that just makes you extra sad seeing characters like that die in the end.
What’s really interesting is that the name of the song playing during the pike scene is titled “Art of Death”. The 10 heads on the pikes belong to: A - Addy R - Rodney T - Tammy O - Ozzy F - Frankie D - DJ E - Enid A - Alek T - Tara H - Henry
Yeah, I think she was supposed to be much more, like a replacement of Sofia's role in the comics, but without Carl and Maggie, she actually had not much to do
@@jesses5463 really mate, he didn't even know they existed, Jesus was out there to save Eugene after he was attacked by them, Jesus thought it was another walker walking towards him and suddenly he pulled a knife and killed Jesus, so please explain to me how it was Jesus who attacked first.
For me the best part of this episode is the fact that when Daryl Carol Michonne and Yumiko head out they are the ones seemingly in danger In the pitch black of the woods the monstrous Beta and other Whisperers appear It seems as if they are the ones about to die But it’s actually the ones back home who seems happy and gleeful at the beginning of the reconciliation of the communities that are in the most danger as Alpha walks amongst them To me that aspect of the episode was just perfectly put together The writers created a masterpiece with this one And the whole pike scene is just gut wrenching to watch specifically when Carol sees Henry.
What really gets me about the comparison to the Alpha kills vs the Negan lineup/kills is that, Glenn and Abe suffered a physically painful and tortuous death which traumatized the other survivors. The Alpha kills are off-screen but left to the imagination since it means one after another the characters had to watch each other get decapitated, knowing they were next to go. Their deaths are actually very haunting. Also, comic book spoiler/reference, but they kept the sticks/pikes in the ground as a reminder of the border and since they couldn’t find any of their bodies, they could only bury their heads at each pike as a sort of grave as well. 😭
There's also no guarantee that Sadiq was being truthful, either. He even says "that's the story I want to tell you guys" instead of saying "that's what actually happened." It was nice of him, but I'm sure it didn't go down the way he said it did with all the heroics lol.
@@MFBloosh I don’t see any reason to believe that story wasn’t true. I think you’re reading to into the dialogue about “a different story” just cause he said different doesn’t mean it’s made up. Back when Andrew Lincoln (Rick) left the show I remember thinking that there will never be another speech quite like his because he’s a goddamn master at delivering those Avi Nash (Siddiq) proved me wrong Honestly his speech makes me more ready eyed than the pike scene itself Watching all of those people fighting for each other instead of running away for their own lives it just rips my heart out And kudos to Ozzy Alek (The lead Highwaymen) and DJ (Ex Savior guy) They sacrificed their own lives for people they met like a day or two ago What Legends.
The pikes scene gave me a headache and real nausea. That was a first in this show for me. Tara was an OG since early Season 4 even longer than Rosita and Eugene. She was just starting to get really interesting again by becoming the leader of Hilltop

wow.. huge fan of the show since season 3.. ive watched in its entirety 4 times, read the comic, watched endless UA-cam videos, and yet you still blew my mind with this comment. I love you
8:38 There's a theory that the characters have trouble hearing walkers sometimes because of all the shooting they have done in the past. Firing weapons without ear protection is bad in the first place, and most characters have fired off firearms in enclosed places, too lol. Most, if not all, of them should be partially deaf at this point.
Elias is right - the division amongst the 4 communities is what really made this happen so easily. I mean Alpha infiltrated the kingdom pretending to be from Alexandria. Ezekiel probably assumed she was one of many new people that Alexandria may have recruited while the communities were separated, so no red flag went up.
This and 9x05 are my favourite of this Season Tara and Enid almost hit as hard as Glenn and Abraham except this time there were 8 more people It’s implied that more of the Whisperers somehow infiltrated the fair to lure/kidnap them all that’s why when Alpha met Daryl Carol Michonne Yumiko she wiped blood off her blade and said she ran into some trouble on the road. Also in the original source material (Comic Spoiler) there were actually 12 pike victims and the two major ones were Rosita and Ezekiel Fans like myself were so nervous when Ezekiel started escorting Alpha around the Kingdom and thought Gabriel could have been talking about Rosita and not Tara when he asked Eugene if she knew where he was I loved your reactions.
This final guys 😮😮😮😮. I wasn't expecting Enid, Tara and Henry . Alpha is evil but she will have to face Carol's anger now ... next season is gonna be fiiiire !!!
Great episode! Poor Carol has lost so much. Murder Jacket Rick would have wiped them out. Not Henry's fault. Yes on the leaders of each community they lost the connection Rick worked so hard to keep together. Your faces when they showed the heads where amazing. I was more upset about Tara, I really liked her, I met her at the last Atlanta Walker Stalker con. Alana/Tara is very funny, great since of humor. Gabriel was very nice. I Also met Henry 1, and Henry 2 which are brothers in real life. Sofia is their sister in real life. Fun fact, I was wearing the outfit that Carol wore in this episode.
Season 9, in my opinion, is the 3rd best season after seasons 5 (2nd) and 6 (1st). That's a hell of an accomplishment too, seeing as they did it without Rick, Maggie, and Carl. Shout out Angela Kang for showing Gimple how to write good dialogue lol.
I remember seeing someone say most of the people alpha piked were people who coulda created or helped create a future in this world , signifying alpha really just wants the dead to rule and her live among them
Alpha was more terrifying than the Governor. The Governor was too rash and didn't think things through. Alpha was more calculating. Negan was good but it dragged on for too long. It should've ended sooner.
I think and someone else correct me if I'm wrong, Henry was supposed to replace Carl's role from the comics, but most of the audience didn't like Henry, so they decided to off him
The head scene legit messed me up for days man the music and everything , I loved henry character and thought he was gonna be the new Carl and liked his romance with Lydia too , but for the story kinda makes sense for the future. I saw like a thing on Google of just head liked head and got spoiled the night before it went live for uk lol

I love that final scene with Lydia and Daryl visiting the pikes The wind the music and the snow falling and that somber music.
