    The brain is truly remarkable. It’s been functioning 24/7 since we were born and only stops when we take tests.

    After watching this video, I started thinking about not only how our brain works, but also different things that happen during the process. I never really paid attention that our brain works in different ways which are called fast and slow. It was very interesting for me that the fully engagement of the slower thinking makes your brain turn almost colorblind. As you are concentrated to an object, which makes you think deeper, thus, your brain ignores other details around it. I did not notice this until after watching the video. In fact, when one sees an object, they can figure what the object is. Although for example the math problem, when you try to solve it, your brain travels from the fast thinking into slower thinking. Thank you for such interesting videos with some great examples.

    For all those who find the BAT and BALL problem confusing:
    1) The bat costs 1 dollar more than the ball.
    2) Everything has to cost 1.10 dollars.
    A) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 0 cents. = 1.00 dollars
    - 1) is fulfilled - 2) is not, because the result is not 1.10 dollars
    B) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 10 cents = 1.10 dollars
    - 1) is not fulfilled because the difference is 0.90 dollars - 2) is fulfilled
    We need to find a way to add 10 cents to THE DIFFERENCE without compromising THE RESULT of B).
    The only way is to take OUT 5 cents from the ball and put them INTO the price of the bat. In this way we have:
    C) The bat costs 1.05 dollars and the ball costs 5 cents. = 1.10 dollars
    - 1) is fulfilled - 2) is fulfilled
    Of course, C is the ONLY correct result, B is the result of fast thinking for most people, and A...that should not even be an answer :)

    • @syncradar

      I think of it like this:
      A bat and a ball costs 1.10$
      Bat+Ball=1.10$
      The Bat costs 1 Dollar more than the Ball
      Bat=1$+Ball
      So, (1$+Ball)+Ball=1.10$
      1$+2Ball=1.10$
      2Ball=0.10$
      Ball=0.05$

    I have a burning question. I'm an AP Psychology teacher, and there are a ton of resources to help students understand the differences between neurotransmitters. However, my question is: Can you please create one of these amazing short videos that give so much information to break down the differences between the dominant neurotransmitters described in so many Intro to Psych textbooks?
    If I could find a way to get them to understand them more quickly without burning so much class time, that would be amazing. My class is open to all, so many students don't need the guided support. But, many of my students are taking AP level courses for the first time, and what better class then AP Psychology to give it a go? I've used your videos in a number of ways over the years, and they are extremely helpful, so can you create one for the neurotransmitters?
    Thanks! I hope you can, but if not, keep making these fun educational videos!

    Une traduction assez douteuse du titre, mais le contenu est plus qu’enrichissant ! Cette perspective me paraît extrêmement pertinente pour aborder la Science en général.

    • @seabassthegamer6644

      The brain produces hormones and stuff during emotive bursts, and the heart is affected by said hormones. Not to mention that your brain doesn't have sensory nerves like in your hands and various other non-brain parts.

      No, but I feel it substantially decreases our attention spans, causing us to invest less time, therefore making us less productive and more prone to procrastination. ( which basically means, we desire short term, immediate pleasure more than long term, long lasting pleasure ) this is a dire situation because most things that give you immediate pleasure aren't really good for you.
      It's not that our brains are working too slow but rather too fast. We can't focus on one thing because we are so used to having multiple things going on at once, so your brain switches focus to several things, each time lessening your overall dedication to whatever you are doing.

    This video not only showed how the brain works, but also open my eyes to multiple different things that happen. I never really paid attention to the fact that our brain works in two different ways and never thought it would be called fast and slow. It amazed me when the video showed that your brain almost turns colorblind when you fully engage system 2 (the slower thinking). Once your brain starts to think harder you are so concentrated you block out all the other detail around it. This is something I never realized until after watching this video and realizing that really happens. Its almost like your mind gets sucked in you blur out everything else. Its crazy how fast you can realize if a person is a girl or boy and it her or she has blond or brown hair, and when it comes to a math problem your brain immediately recognizes it’s a math problems, but when you go to do it your brain changes in to slow thinking to figure it out. I found this video very interesting especially the examples they showed that proved the brain works the way it does.

      Legendarymark112 It's probably because your brain thinks in words and numbers. That's another thing that changes from person to person. Some people visualize something with context to help better understand. While others take the numbers and letters given and that helps them better understand. And why people think differently depends on which side of their brain is dominant. If you saw pictures or associated the text with something you have seen, your right brain is dominant, whereas if you just used the words and letters given to you, your left brain is dominant. :) does this help?

    i have many questions for asapscience:
    why is the sky blue? why cant it be purple? or green? green is a lovely color...
    why do oceans and lakes appear blue?
    why is it when we talk into a fan, we sound like a robot?
    did you know that dolphins and whales evolved from wolves?
    how did life begin?
    why do we dream?
    what is life?
    what is in a black hole?
    why are women so feminine and men so masculine? why cant it be the other way around?
    is it possible to time travel?
    are there REALLY dimensions with different worlds inside them?
    why is the young generation so self-absorbed?
    what is the purpose of the spork?
    when will the world end?
    what makes people want to be nice, or caring?
    why do people judge?
    why do people get dizzy?
    or nauseous?
    where, in the evolution of eye color, did green eyes come about? or hazel? or black? or violet? or gray? because all people had brown eyes until some mutation occurred and blue eyes came about.
    why do people kiss?
    where did kissing originate?
    i have many more questions, of which i cannot think right now, but i will let yall seep my other questions in. please answer them, if so desired and it would be nice if you gave a shout-out. just sayin.......

    At the end of all your videos you say if we have a question to ask... well... could you show us How the brain works in an ADHD person versus a "normal" person? I've always wondered why they have a much harder time focusing. Help?

    • @MsDestructiveness
      @MsDestructiveness 11 років тому +1

      I have had ADHD since I was in 3 grade I'm a senior in high school now, but anyways ADHD is considered a learning disability due to the fact that I have to concentrate on,lets say a math problem, for longer than what you do because I can become more easily distracted, the medication such as Adderall slows the over thinking process and allows me not to become so easily distracted but because of the meds I for the longest time had to be put in a class with students with learning disabilities. so basically a person with ADHD like me, the brain works in overdrive because of the fact that I get easily distracted and my mind never stops over thinking

      ibkillah cos if the ball is 10cents and the bat is 1.10 then both together is 1.20

      @eterrix 8 років тому +133

      UnicornOnRainbows 101 's answer is pretty vague. It took me a bit to understand as well, so I'll try to help explain. We want to say the bat is worth $1 and the ball is worth 10¢, but if the bat is worth "one dollar more than the ball", that would make the bat worth $1.10. 1.10+0.10=1.20. The only way we can solve this problem with the bat being $1 more than the ball is if the ball is 5¢ and the bat is $1.05. 1.05+0.05=1.10. I was pretty angry that I got this wrong so it makes me feel better to help explain it lol

      making use of algebra helps.
      ball+bat=1.10 its given bat=1D+ball
      so, 1+ball+ball=1.10
      2ball=0.10
      ball=.5 cents

    I’m good at math so I’m gonna explain how I solve these:19x26
    I +1 to the 19 so it’s 20 and I multiply it to the 26 which easy because it’s x2 plus a zero at the end.20x26 is 520 and then I munes the 26 I added at the beginning which makes it 520-26 and the answer is 494
    It doesn’t take that long.hope it helps you

    The whole Moses and Ark thing is similar to dreaming! Our frontal lobes are inactive at first glance like when dreaming odd things and accepting them. Then we wake up realizing the dream was irrational.

    1:25 nono no wouldn't it be 4906? because of the 9 + 1 equals 10 thing, dosen't that mean that you carry the on to the 7?
    Edit 1:
    My Sister said it's mean to be 5906 because 5 plus one is 6, correct. 9 plus 1 is 10, correct. 7 plus 1 PLUS 1 from the 10 is 9, correct. then 4 plus 1 is 5. correct 5 in the thousands column the 9 after 5 in the hundreds column the 0 (aka 10) is in the tens column then then 6 in the ones column.
    Edit 2:
    My Sister was wrong, my calculator said 4906... or maybe MY CALCULATORS IS WRONG..... but hey, it's just numbers..
